Managing Cosplay Performance: The Forms and Expectations of Convention RoleplayPrice, Isaac V 01 May 2020 (has links)
Costume play (i.e. cosplay) is a performance of fandom rife with rituals and communication practices. Cosplay roleplaying performances are cultural practices that reveal how cosplayers interact with one another and among non-cosplaying members of their fandoms. This study examines the expectations that cosplayers hold for roleplay, the forms of roleplay, and the ways in which roleplay can become an instigator of harassment. Through the lens of Face-Negotiation Theory, the author discusses how roleplay functions to maintain or threaten the public images of cosplayers and their audiences, and what strategies cosplayers implement to avoid the loss of face.

NONINVASIVE CHARACTERIZATION AND DEVELOPMENT OF IN SITU FORMING IMPLANTS FOR USE AS A LOCAL PANCREATIC CANCER THERAPYKelsey A Hopkins (12468513) 27 April 2022 (has links)
<p>Pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma is an especially deadly disease having the lowest 5-year survival rate of any major cancer at just 11%. As in many cancers, systemically-delivered chemotherapy forms the backbone of clinical treatment. However, limitations of systemic delivery exacerbated by the unique desmoplastic and avascular microenvironment surrounding the pancreatic tumor cells result in the failed efficacy of current treatments. The high stromal content in the microenvironment, which is especially overabundant in hyaluronic acid, is thought to physically impede drug perfusion into the tissue. Thus, there is clearly a <strong>critical need</strong> to develop novel treatments for pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma that can overcome these drug delivery barriers. Long-acting injectable implants offer an attractive drug delivery method that can provide <em><strong>sustained</strong></em> drug release directly at the <em><strong>local</strong></em> targeted site, rather than transient, systemic release. Here we use in situ forming implants (ISFIs), which are a low-viscosity solution outside of the body but transition into a solid drug-eluting depot after injection into an aqueous environment. Our <strong>objective</strong> is to develop and characterize an ISFI that can provide sustained release of bioactive hyaluronidase for use as an intratumoral injection to degrade hyaluronic acid in pancreatic tumors. This work was accomplished in four aims. First, a method was developed using diffusion-weighted MRI for noninvasive characterization of the implants. Second, because hyaluronidase is a protein drug, we studied factors affecting protein release from ISFIs, focusing on external factors of the injection site. Third, we showed that basic salt additives can be used to neutralize the acidic environment created by the implants which may improve protein stability. Finally, we formulated an implant to provide sustained release of hyaluronidase and demonstrated retention of its bioactivity both <em>in vitro</em> and <em>ex vivo</em>.</p>

Les émotions dans les agirs violents : approche psychanalytique / Emotion and violent actFavre, Claire 16 May 2014 (has links)
This research, in conjunction with our clinical practice in prisons, focuses on emotions in violent act. The terms "emotion" and "act" must be understood in a general sense because we start from what is visible for up to psychic functioning. Our research interest in the theory of violent act and psychoanalytic theories of affect. It's important not only focus on the violent act and we questionned the functioning of the author of violent act and the relationship between one type of act (different type of acting out ) and psychic functioning. The theoretical foundations of limit states and psychosomatic seem to bring us interesting answers. Thus, an analysis of the operation according to the act, we prefer to have a reading that part of the psychic functioning to illuminate the understanding of the act. In general, beyond wanting to clarify what types of operation belongs act, we would first like to emphasize the plurality of functioning in the clinic act.

Bidragande faktorer till valet av LARC vid strukturerad preventivmedelsrådgivning på ungdomsmottagning : Klusterrandomiserad kontrollerad interventionsstudie i Stockholms län / Contributing factors to the choice of LARC under the influence of structured contraceptive counseling at youth clinics in SwedenThored, Emelie, Wikström, Freja January 2021 (has links)
Metod: Kvantitativ ansats. / Background: Women’s need for modern family planning is not met. Socioeconomic benefits can be obtained if less-safe methods are replaced by long-acting reversible contraceptives (LARC). There is a need for improvement within the work to enable women to choose effective contraceptives by a well-informed decision. Aim: To investigate if reproductive history and socioeconomic factors have an impact on the choice of LARC under the influence of customary and structured contraceptive counselling, among adolescents and young adults (18-24) at youth clinics in Stockholm, Sweden. Method: Quantitative method. Cluster randomized controlled intervention study, and a substudy of LOWE. Result: Planned use of LARC before the visit (OR 45.78, 95% CI 23,54–89,02) and structured contraceptive counselling (intervention) (OR 3,67, 95% CI 2,24–5,97) was the variables that influenced the choice of LARC. Conclusion: A likely reason why sociodemographic factors and reproductive history did not influence the choice of LARC, could be that contraceptive use is a part of a more complex context. The information provided in contraceptive counselling has an influence on the majority of all patients, but current societal norms control the choice of contraception, as well as paradigm shifts within SRHR. External validity: The result was of clinical significance for staff at youth clinics and can be clinically applied for in-depth knowledge of influencing factors for the choice of LARC.

What is the ART of ADHD SoMe Acting : and how is it artistically relevant for everyone to know?Lindman, Alexander January 2023 (has links)
During my master program in acting 2021-23 at Stockholm University of the Arts I coined the term deneurotypicalize and a definition of art as ART to guide my now and future work of trying to deneurotypicalize acting technique and understand what the ART of the SoMe Actor might be and do and and if there is or should be a difference between a neurotypical and neurodiverse way of applying oneself and communicate with said audience on said platform(s)? This all resulted in over 150 pages of written words, and a great deal more written documentation; a performance lecture on the 2nd of May 2023 with a Q&A, several short films and Social Media interactions, 3 Surveys about ADHD-acting and art, 3 events on Scenkonstbiennalen (2022); and this master thesis and a research catalogue page with a more general documentation, too. ADHD, ART, Social Media and acting is more connected than I first realised, maybe because ADHD-actors have an affinity for ARTing which can be, and not be, an asset during ARTistic-processes. Lots of further research is needed, and in larger quantities. The ADHD relation to the arts might seem obvious because the out of the box thinking, hyperfocus, hyperfixation and only being able to follow your strongest passions and interests but it can also be because the rest of the society isn’t built for ARTing or ADHD-people which makes the field of arts so alluring. And maybe more often than we’d like to admit: also a very all consuming — especially if all the ARTistic-processes are based upon neurotypical standards — energy draining (and worst case scenario a death) trap. / <p>Since this is an artistic work there was an IRL examination of my performance lecture on the second of May 2023 and also an examination of this master thesis of 127 pages on the 26th of May 2023 that both were passed by Ulrika Malmgren. And, also a research catalouge page https://www.researchcatalogue.net/view/1398260/1398261 that will be published at the same time as this thesis: all three is a part of Alexander Lindman's IDP at Stockholm University of the Arts. All interlinked; all stand alone.</p>

T. Hanks for Nostalgia: The Power of Tom Hanks and Film BrandingHiggs, Jacob 01 May 2023 (has links) (PDF)
In March 2020, Tom Hanks announced he had contracted COVID-19 while shooting the Elvis Presley Biopic in Australia. On Instagram, he encouraged fans to take the disease seriously and be aware of how severe of a disease it was. Character brands and nostalgia have been found to foster trust in products and encourage relationships with those brands. Using the lens of nostalgia and uses and gratification to examine Tom Hanks as a character brand, the researcher analyzed five blockbuster films with Tom Hanks as the lead character. The study used narrative thematic analysis to observe Hanks and the depictions of character identity, trauma, mortality, affectional emotion, memory, and catharsis in these films. The goal was to better understand how nostalgia might contribute to brand trust between the audience and the celebrity.
