Live stream micro-media activism in the occupy movement : mediatized co-presence, autonomy, and the ambivalent face / Mediatized co-presence, autonomy, and the ambivalent face

Thomas, Judith A. 02 August 2012 (has links)
With camera, smart phone, and wireless connection to a worldwide distribution source on a single device that fits in your pocket, now billions of citizens are able to become sousveillant micro-media activist – in real time. This case study investigates purposive texts in detail from over 50 hours of live and archived streaming video webcasts taken from geographically diverse sites. The goal is to explore how this tool is being used by videographers in a complex 21st century social movement. My sample video texts were gathered in late February and early March 2012 as the Occupy Movement stirred to life after a relatively quiet winter (from the corporate media’s point-of-view). In this project, I examine how Occupy’s use of live-streaming video combines “mediated co-presence” (Giddens 1984; Ito 2005) with “networked autonomy” (Castells 2011) to represent the ambivalent face of a complex, postmodern movement for social justice. / text

Carvalho, Nayara Chagas 04 July 2016 (has links)
The objective of this research was to investigate the effect of parental socialization of mothers in sexism’s expression in children 6 and 7 years old. The participants were 30 children and their mothers. Previously the collect, it was requested the mother’s authorization for the participation of his son or her daughter. The collect had two steps – The first step was executed with the children and the second with the mothers. The interviews contained objective and subjective questions. Besides that, was also applied the Parenting Styles and Dimensions Questionnaire and the Ambivalent Sexism Inventoy in the mothers. The results indicate that mothers with most flagrant sexism tend to produce a more sexist parent socialization. Contrary to our hypothesis, there was no correlation between parenting styles and gender identity of the children. However, we found out that more authoritarian and permissive mothers socialize their children towards the hostile flagrant. These results are discussed in the light of theories of parental socialization and ambivalent sexism. As entrevistas continham perguntas abertas e fechadas.

Dark tetrad personality types and sexual behaviours amongst African students

Baloyi, Valeria January 2019 (has links)
Thesis (Ph. D. (Psychology)) -- University of Limpopo, 2019 / The present study investigated the gender moderated relationship between the dark tetrad personality types and sexual behaviours among African university students. Two studies were conducted using conveniently selected samples from two universities in Limpopo, South Africa. Both studies were quantitative in nature using a cross-sectional research design. An integrative theoretical approach was utilized in the conceptualization of the studies, and data was analyzed using structural equation modeling (SEM). The first study (N = 261) determined the relationship between the dark tetrad personality types and sexual behaviours conceptualized as infidelity, sexual aggression, and sociosexuality. It was only sadism that had the capacity to predict infidelity and SOI-R desire. Regarding moderation, the results showed that gender only moderates the associations between Machiavellianism and SOI-R behaviour, psychopathy and SOI-R attitude, and sadism and infidelity. The second study (N = 275) examined if the relationship between the Dark Tetrad personality types and socio-sexuality would be mediated by adversarial sexual beliefs (ASB) and ambivalent sexism (benevolent [BS] and hostile sexism [HS]). Results showed that the relationship between sadism and SOI-R behaviour and desire, Machiavellianism and SOI-R behaviour and desire were fully mediated by BS, and the association between sadism and all the SOI-R components, Machiavellianism and all the SOI-R components, and psychopathy and all the SOI-R components were fully mediated ASB. Additionally, gender only moderated the ASB mediated associations between sadism and SOI-R behaviour, and sadism and SOI-R attitude. Ultimately, the study advances recommendations for future studies. / NRF ( National Research Foundation)

Sexism, Just-World Beliefs, and Defensive Attribution: Relationship to Online Discourse and Child Sexual Abuse

Barbis, Andrea M. 01 January 2018 (has links)
Research has shown that individuals' willingness to believe a disclosure of childhood sexual abuse (CSA) is related to just-world beliefs, ambivalent sexism, and defensive attribution. However, researchers do not know whether these variables relate to posts made in response to online articles describing CSA. Negative or disbelieving posts may impact not only the author, but also readers who view these comments via hindrance of disclosures, increased self-blame, and avoidance of help seeking. In this quantitative study, just-world, ambivalent sexism, and defensive attribution theories provided the theoretical basis used to determine whether just-world beliefs, ambivalent sexism, and defensive attribution influenced comments made in response to an online article about CSA disclosure. Eight-hundred twenty participants read the article where the author discloses she was sexually abused as a child. Response comments were coded negative, neutral, or positive. Participants also completed demographic questions, the Global Belief in a Just World Scale, the Ambivalent Sexism Inventory, and questions regarding their similarity to the offender and victim. Multinomial logistic regression analysis showed relationships between negative posts and hostile sexism, perceived similarity to the perpetrator, frequent involvement in online discourse, and, to a lesser extent, belief in a just world. Parenthood and perceived similarity to the author increased one's odds of posting positively. Responses of CSA survivors resulted in unexpected findings. Study findings may be used to challenge stereotypes and vitriol often used to silence survivors in public discourse, for thought challenging in psychotherapeutic settings, and for future public education and research to increase support for CSA survivors.

Análisis de las actitudes de las consumidoras de cervezas de 18 a 25 años sobre la narrativa publicitaria en la campaña “Amistad sin diferencias” de Pilsen / Analysis of the attitudes of beer drinkers aged 18 to 25 regarding the audiovisual advertising narrative in Pilsen's “Friendship without differences” campaign

Llana Flores, Natali Liz 25 March 2021 (has links)
Research indicates the positive impact of inclusive advertising and its incorporation of dialogues that empower women. However, there is little research that evaluates women's attitudes towards a discourse that not only empowers them but also incorporates men as part of gender equality. The objective of this exploratory study is to evaluate the attitudes of beer drinkers between the ages of 18 and 25 regarding the spot “Friendship without differences” and to analyze the impact of the narrative regarding the perception of women. A qualitative methodology of phenomenological design was used, with women from metropolitan Lima of socioeconomic levels B and C. The analysis followed a descriptive coding process. The results of the research concluded that women maintain positive attitudes towards the incorporation of the male sex in a spot that represents gender equality. They also valued the use of statements by both men and women within the narrative of the spot. / Trabajo de investigación

Male eating disorders: experiences of food, body and self

Delderfield, Russell 12 1900 (has links)
No / This book takes a novel approach to the study of male eating disorders – an area that is often dominated by clinical discourses. The study of eating disorders in men has purportedly suffered from a lack of dedicated attention to personal and socio-cultural aspects. Delderfield tackles this deficiency by spotlighting a set of personal accounts written by a group of men who have experiences of disordered eating. The text presents critical interpretations that aim to situate these experiences in the social and cultural context in which these disorders occur. This discursive work is underpinned by an eclectic scholarly engagement with social psychology and sociology literature around masculinities, embodiment and fatness, belonging, punishment, stigma, and control; leading to understandings about relationships with food, body and self. This is undertaken with a reflexive element, as the personal intersects with the professional. This text will appeal to students, scholars and clinicians in social sciences, humanities, and healthcare studies, including public health.

Validation of the nomological network of supervisor-subordinate relational identification

Unknown Date (has links)
Interpersonal interaction is the foundation of organization operations, but the study of identification in interpersonal level has often been ignored. Sluss and Ashforth (2007) proposed the relational identification framework to explain how the relational identification forms. However, this framework is still in conceptual debate, and no researcher has developed the scale for measuring the role-based identity and person-based identity construct yet. Moreover, the scale of three types of relational identification, the relational identification, relational disidentification, and ambivalent relational identification, are also not well-developed. Therefore, the purpose of this study is focus on supervisor-subordinate relationship, and validate the nomological network of Sluss and Ashforth’s relational identification theory. First, based on the suggestion of Hinkin (1998), this study generated items to measure the valence of role-based and person-based identity, and three types of relational identification. Second, after testing the reliability and validity of these scales, this study tested the connection between subordinates’ positive/negative valence of role-based and person-based identity, and the three types of relational identification outcome. Furthermore, this study examines the relationships between three types of relational identification and criterion variables. Current study samples 205 registered first-line nurses from hospitals in Taiwan and asks them to evaluate their supervisor-subordinate relationship with head nurses. The result shows that there are some initial validation evidences for the relational identification framework. The contributions and limitations of this study, and the suggestions for future relational identification research are discussed.
