”Feral rats” : – en analys av rätten att definiera händelser, i BBC:s bevakning av upploppen i England 2011Heyman, David January 2013 (has links)
Denna C-uppsats analyserar genom kvalitativt innehållsanalytiska metoder utvalda delar av BBC:s bevakning av upploppen i England i augusti 2011. Metodmodellen är egenkonstruerad, men använder element ur kritisk diskursanalys (CDA, Faircloughs tillämpningar), samt delar av de metodverktyg som tas upp i Selby och Cowderys metodhandbok How to Study Television. Materialet undersöks i fyra steg: konstruktion, kategori/genre, inverkan/agency samt diskursiv praktik/nyhetsvärdering. Teorin som tjänar som bas för undersökningen består av litteratur inom ämnesområdet journalistik och samhälle, med stor fokus på relationen dem sinsemellan. Uppsatsens syfte är att belysa hur social skiktning och rådande diskurser spelar in i representationen av olika samhällsgrupper i BBC:s nyhetsrapportering, med rapporteringen kring upploppen som exempel på hur representationen kan se ut. De centrala frågeställningar som uppsatsens analysdel ämnar besvara är hur individer från olika samhällsskikt tilldelas rätten att definiera upploppen, och hur denna tilldelning av definitionsrätt påverkar innehållet i nyhetsinslagen. Vissa avgränsningar görs för undersökningen. Då analysen görs på ett relativt litet urval bestående av tre nyhetsinslag (alla tre är intervjuer) görs i uppsatsen inga anspråk på att dra några slutsatser gällande rapporteringen kring upploppen i stort, eller kring BBC:s rapportering generellt. Från resultaten kan det konstateras att det finns stora skillnader i identitetskonstruktionen av de olika individerna i nyhetsinslagen, och att representation och tillåtelsen till definition av nyhetshändelsen skiljer sig tydligt mellan inslagen. En vit butiksinnehaverska i yngre medelåldern representeras med en stark positiv identitet, och får föra ut sitt budskap fritt och ostört. Hennes definition av händelserna och de inblandade människorna tillåts dominera inslaget totalt och därmed legitimeras. Övriga individer, två unga flickor och en svart journalist i övre medelåldern kommer inte i närheten av att på allvar få definiera händelserna, och representeras betydligt mer negativt och som svagare individer. Sammantaget kan det konstateras att det i materialet finns en grov skevhet och allvarliga skillnader i rätten att få definiera händelser i sin omvärld.

Förbättring av internt logistikflöde på Aven Rabbalshede AB / Improving internal logistics flow at Aven Rabbalshede ABBjurbäck, Madelene, Nordberg, Simeon January 2013 (has links)
Detta examensarbete har genomförts på Aven Rabbalshede AB i syfte att kartlägga företagets dåvarande situation i dess interna logistikflöde, för att sedan lägga fram förbättringsförslag som kan implementeras för att förbättra detta flöde. Målet var att reducera trucktrafiken i fabriken med minst tio procent. Aven Rabbalshede AB är ett tillverkningsföretag av lastpallar, träemballage, transportstöd och lådor. Företaget är en del av Avenkoncernen som är en av Skandinaviens ledande tillverkare av lastpallar och träemballage. Aven Rabbalshede AB är den största enheten inom koncernen med cirka 55 anställda och en produktion på cirka 1,3 miljoner lastpallar per år. Företaget hade en bristande struktur och systematik över truckflödet och materialhanteringen vilket har inneburit stora och många mellanlager samt andra svårigheter. Examensarbetet innebar att först och främst kartlägga vad respektive truck gjorde under en arbetsdag för att kunna analysera hur dåvarande situation såg ut. Nästa steg var att undersöka hur stort behovet av trucktransporter egentligen var genom att mäta utflödet och inflödet av material från varje maskin inom fabriken. Materialflödena visade hur ofta en truck behövde transportera material till och från maskinerna. Dessa transportrutter klockades sedan för att se hur lång tid de tog vilket gav en överblick över hur belagda truckarna var i olika scenarion. Detta låg sedan till grund för förbättringsförslaget som var en zonindelning av fabriken där en truck fick ansvaret för en egen zon och ett antal arbetsuppgifter. För att en zonindelning ska kunna implementeras i framtiden krävs det att företaget uppfyller ett antal förutsättningar. Dessa förutsättningar innebär bland annat en förändring till ett standardiserat arbetssätt i den hela interna logistiken. Vid en framgångsrik implementation kommer den interna logistiken för företaget att effektiviseras genom färre trucktransporter, högre säkerhet och lägre kostnader vilket innebär besparingar för företaget. / This Bachelor`s Thesis has been made at Aven Rabbalshede AB in purpose of identify its former position in its internal logistics flow, then make suggestions for improvements that can be implemented to improve this flow. The main goal was to reduce truck traffic inte factory with at least ten percent. Aven Rabbalshede AB is a manufacturing company of wooden pallets, wooden packaging, transport support and boxes. The company is part of the Aven Group, which is one of Scandinavia's leading manufacturer of pallets and wooden packaging. Aven Rabbalshede AB is the largest unit within the Aven Group of about 55 employees and a production of about 1,3 million pallets per year. The company had a lack of structure and systematics in the truck flow and material handling which has brought major and many inventories and other difficulties. The project meant first of all to find out what each truck did during a working day in the current situation in order to analyze how the situation was. The next step was to examine how great the need for truck transport actually was by measuring the outflow and inflow of material from each machine in the factory. Material flows showed how often a truck needed to transport materials to and from the machines. These transport routes was clocked to see how long they took to give an overview of how busy the trucks were in different scenarios. This formed the foundation for the improving proposals which was a zoning of the factory where each truck was responsible for its own zone and a number of tasks. For a zoning to be implemented in the future it requires that the company fulfill a number of conditions. A successful implementation would make the internal logistics of the company more effective through fewer truck shipments, higher security and lower costs.

No contexto brasileiro, uma série de reformas incompletas agravam ainda mais a chamada crise da universidade, universidade esta que se vê envolvida em uma nova proposta de expansão e reformulação através do REUNI, programa que – dentre outras coisas – propõe uma reestruturação da arquitetura acadêmica do Ensino Superior. Com o objetivo de compreender os usos e sentidos aplicados à interdisciplinaridade dentro dos Bacharelados Interdisciplinares da UFBA, este estudo objetivou, através da Teoria das Representações Sociais e do método do Discurso do Sujeito Coletivo, compreender como a interdisciplinaridade é interpretada no nexo entre política pública e prática pedagógica por parte da comunidade universitária da UFBA. A partir da literatura, estabelecemos descritores das modalidades e dimensões da interdisciplinaridade, por meio dos quais investigamos os depoimentos de estudantes, gestores e técnicos no intuito de compreender as concepções, estrutura fornecida e práxis na dinâmica interdisciplinar dos BIs, considerando as políticas públicas como contexto e moldura destes processos. A pesquisa revelou que o uso e sentido mais corrente da interdisciplinaridade nos BIs se constitui como a atitude de docentes e discentes dentro do contexto formativo, por meio de uma combinação não necessariamente sistematizada de diferentes disciplinas, denotando uma ênfase no aspecto multidisciplinar do IHAC, muito em decorrência do fato do instituto ainda operar sobre um chassi institucional de caráter predominantemente disciplinar e da ausência de uma política global voltada à interdisciplinaridade na UFBA. / ABSTRACT The contemporary university has encountered social, epistemological and structural challenges
that require a profound reflection on its status and social function. In the Brazilian context, a
series of incomplete reforms further aggravate the so-called university crisis, a university that
is involved in a new proposal for expansion and reformulation through REUNI, a program that
- among other things - proposes a restructuring of the academic architecture of Higher
Education. In order to understand the uses and meanings applied to interdisciplinarity within
the Interdisciplinary Bachelor courses of UFBA, this study seeks, through the Social
Representations Theory and the Collective Subject Discourse method, to understand how
interdisciplinarity is interpreted in the nexus between public policy and Pedagogical practice
by the university community of UFBA. From the literature, we have established descriptors of
the modalities and dimensions of interdisciplinarity, through which we investigate the
testimonies of students, managers and technicians in order to understand the conceptions,
structure provided and praxis in the interdisciplinary dynamics of BIs, considering public
policies as context and framework of these processes. The research revealed that the most
common use and meaning of interdisciplinarity in BIs was constituted as an attitude of teachers
and students within the formative context, through a combination not necessarily systematized
of different disciplines, denoting an emphasis on the multidisciplinary aspect of the IHAC, due
to the fact that the institute still operates on an institutional chassis of predominantly
disciplinary character and the absence of a global policy focused on interdisciplinarity at UFBA

Varje gång en ny byggnad inreds eller renoveras behöver stora, tunga och otympliga föremål som skåp, diskhoar, handfat, fläktar med mera installeras i kök och badrum. Det finns olika system för att montera dessa men det kan ofta vara en komplicerad process. 2Xarm är ett verktyg som gör kök- och badrumsinstallationer säkert och smidigt. Skåp, hyllor och annat lyfts med verktyget för att sedan justeras och hållas på plats där de ska monteras. I nuläget är verktyget för dyrt att tillverka för att kunna säljas med tillräckligt god marginal. Därför var syftet med detta arbete att minska verktygets tillverkningskostnad utan att förändra dess patenterade design och funktion. Arbetet har utförts med hjälp av datorstödd modellering och via informationssökning. En fysisk prototyp lånades och modellerades av. Sedan har tillverkningsmetoder och materialval undersökts varpå tre alternativa konstruktionslösningar togs fram. Dessa anses dock inte ha minskat tillverknigskostnaden nämnvärt. Den huvudsakliga slutsatsen är att verktygets tillverkningskostnad inte gick att minska nämnvärt utan att förändra dess funktionalitet och patenterad design. Alternativt hade även en större produktionsvolym varit en effektiv metod att minska enhetskostnaden. / The 2Xarm tool simplifies kitchen and bathroom installations by securely lifting and installing heavy objects like cabinets and sinks. However, its current manufacturing cost is too high to sell the tool at sufficient profit margains. This report aimed to identify cost-saving measures while preserving the tool’s patented design and functionality. Using computer-aided modeling and research, we analyzed a physical prototype, explored different manufacturing methods, and evaluated material choices. These efforts resulted in three alternative design solutions that aimed to simplify the manufacturing and assembly process. However, these changes ultimately did not significantly reduce the manufacturing cost. In conclusion, achieving substantial cost reduction for the tool without compromising its design and functionality proved difficult. Alternatively, increasing production volume could be an effective approach to lower the unit cost.

Анализируются итальянские институты культуры и организации, выделяются основные приоритеты и цели культурной дипломатии страны и отмечаются наиболее эффективные инструменты её реализации, направленные на распространение итальянской культуры и языка и на укрепление позитивного восприятия страны иностранными государствами. На основе проведённого исследования делаются выводы о том, что Италия успешно реализовывает цели культурной дипломатии и способствует созданию позитивного образа за рубежом. / The focus of the research is the cultural diplomacy of Italy within the concept of the soft power and ways of its realization nowadays. The importance of Italy's cultural activity is examined, and the importance of its contribution to the development of world culture is noted. Italian institutions of culture and organization are analyzed, the main priorities and objectives of the cultural diplomacy of Italy are underlined and the most effective instruments are marked for its implementation aimed at disseminating Italian culture, language and reinforcement of the positive perception of Italy by foreign states. On the basis of the conducted research, the conclusions are made that Italy successfully realizes the objectives of cultural diplomacy and promotes the creation of a positive image abroad.

Exploring the Value of the Bachelor's Degree for Teachers in the Early Childhood Education Field: A Research SynthesisHogan, Melissa A 01 January 2018 (has links)
The implementation of standardized testing has changed education in the United States resulting in a content ripple effect from the higher grades down to preschool-aged children. To match that ripple effect early childhood education can be evaluated and reformed accordingly by exploring many factors that make up the early childhood education system. This manuscript addressed one factor, early childhood teacher preparation, through a synthesis of literature related to the potential benefits of earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Early Childhood Development and Education, or a BS. The theories of early brain development were explored first and then studies of the social components affecting an Early Childhood Educator's, or ECE's, choice in teacher preparation were reviewed. The review then defined and compared the Child Development Associate or CDA, the Associate of Arts degree, or AA, and the BS. Professional recommendations and standards according to the National Association for Young Children, or NAEYC were included to understand how valuable the BS is to these trend setters of the field. The review then explored how the BS is currently being used nationally in a state-funded program known as VPK, utilizing the National Institute for Early Education Research, or NIEER. This data provided a snapshot of the national demand for the BS in the early childhood field. The pay disparities were then correlated with levels of education and compared with primary and upper grade compensation. The final value explored was research of how the BS directly affected results of the quality in the early childhood classroom and teacher-child interactions. These studies used two quality rating scales, the ECERS and CLASS, which were defined and compared. The findings of the synthesized literature review provided understanding of a young field that is growing and implies where further research and change could happen to match the effects of an evolving education system in the United States of America.

This dissertation consists of three chapters on labor economics. The first two chapters focus on education, and the third examines inequality and incarceration. Chapter one explores whether college students strategically delay exiting college in response to poor labor market conditions. It exploits variation in U.S. state unemployment rates to identify the causal impact of unemployment rates on time to graduation. Strategic delay is observed among both men and women. Results indicate that students delay graduation by approximately 0.4 months for each percentage point increase in junior-year unemployment rates, implying the average student delays by approximately half a semester during a typical recession. Effects are greatest for men with freshman majors in education, professional and vocational technologies, the humanities, business, and the sciences, and for women in education, the sciences, or undeclared. Delays are robust to fluctuations in students’ in-school work hours, earnings, and job market conditions.
Chapter two assesses the impact of over-the-counter access to emergency contraception on women’s educational attainment using variation in access produced by state legislation since 1998. Approximately 5% of American women of reproductive age experience an unintended pregnancy annually, indicating a significant unmet need for contraception. Results indicate that cohorts with greater access to emergency contraception are more likely to graduate from high school and attain the associate’s degree. Effects for high school graduation are most pronounced among black women, while increases in associate’s degree attainment are driven primarily by white and Hispanic women.
Chapter three explores the relationship between incarceration and generational inequality. Using a calibrated OLG model of criminal behavior with race, inheritance and endogenous education, I calculate how much longer prison sentences, and a higher likelihood of capture and conviction contribute to income inequality. Results indicate that changes to criminal policy mirroring those of the “tough on crime” legislation of the 1980s and 1990s, including an 18% increase in criminal apprehension and a 68% increase in prison sentence length, have little impact on inequality as measured by the Gini coefficient. Instead, the model provides evidence that these enhanced enforcement measures deter crime and decrease incarceration rates. / text

Basic subjects in Bachelor's degree program at Siauliai University, Faculty of Mathematics and Informatics are: Mathematical analysis, Algebra, Geometry, Physics, Computer mathematics system and Programming fundamentals. In Bachelor's work, we investigate a relation between 6 study subjects and Bachelor's work evaluations of students who entranced in 2004–2008. To describe this relation we use correlation analysis and linear regression.

This thesis deals with design and implementation of new version of web portal for master's thesis supervisioin. The website is written in PHP using Nette framework. The goal of this application is to simplify the work of theses supervisors. The application provides supervisors with overview of students' activity by weekly reports. It allows students to cooperate and share information and motivation. The main reasons for creating a new implementation were improvement and extension of functionality and improvement of user interface and user experience. Results of testing show that all the above-mentioned changes were successful. Users are more satisfied, especially with the user interface.
