An investigative research into merger of school programmes in the Department of Education in Vhembe District for the academic years 2010 to 2016

Hon'wana, Xinyata Nhlazini Cartson 20 September 2019 (has links)
MEd (Educational Management) / Department of Educational Management / The aim of this study was to investigate the merger of schools’ programmes in the Department of Basic Education (DBE) in Vhembe District for the academic years 2010 to 2016. When small schools are not merged, it is difficult for the Department of Basic Education to adequately allocate resources for effective and efficient teaching and learning. The study adopted Eisner’s Connoisseur Model of Enquiry as its theoretical framework. Besides the theoretical framework, the study also adopted a legal framework: SASA, Act No. 84 of 1996. This study was conceptualised within the interpretive paradigm, subsumed under a qualitative research design. Data was collected through interviews and document analysis. The population of the study was eighty-five (85) schools identified for merger in the Vhembe District. Purposive sampling was used to select nine (09) principals from the merging schools, three (03) Deputy Manager Governance officials from the identified circuits and one (01) district governance official in Vhembe District. Hence the sample of the study was thirteen (13) participants. Data was analysed thematically. The study revealed that most schools identified for merger were merged prematurely; that is, schools were merged before the provision of relevant infrastructure and resources in the merging centres and this caused the communities to reject mergers. The study recommends that proper consultation with relevant local structures like traditional leaders in particular is crucial to ensure that the merging of schools is implemented with minimal challenges. Correct interpretation, implementation of policies and effective monitoring of programmes should be ensured to advocate for school merging. / NRF

Rudolph, Christian 22 April 2020 (has links)

Implementation of a tool for equipment supply planning : Creation and implementation of an Excel tool to improve the efficiency of the planning of supply for equipment in the structural work phase of apartment buildings projects / Implementering av ett verktyg för planering för tillförsel av utrustning : Skapande och implementering av ett Excel-verktyg för att effektivisera planering för tillförsel av utrustning för resning av byggnadsstommen vid byggande av flerbostadshus

Besch, Théo January 2021 (has links)
Supply planning is one of the key steps in an apartment building constructionproject, due to the repetitive nature of these projects where the constructionpace therefore has a crucial importance. However, if the working forceplanning and the materials planning are often acknowledged as important, the equipment supply planning can happen to be considered as secondary. Therefore less effort has been put in the tools used to make this planning. This master thesis is the result of a work in collaboration with the methodsdepartment at Eiffage Construction Habitat, one of the most important Frenchconstruction companies. It presents the implementation of a tool that automatesan important part of the equipment supply planning in order to gain efficiencyduring this planning process and to be able to focus deeper on the keyissues of the project. This tool allows to drastically reduce the time spentduring the supply planning for the equipment of the structural phase, bothregarding vertical works (walls and columns) and horizontal works (floors, beams and balconies). Along with making the planning more efficient, itallows to standardize the output documents and facilitate the work of theother departments with whom the methods department collaborates. Resultingfrom a case study and an internal survey, the implemented tool relies onthe Microsoft Visual Basic for Applications technology, allowing to staywithin the users’ range of mastered software, therefore improving the adoptionpotential of the tool. The results analysis showed a great satisfaction from theusers, both regarding the abilities of the tool and its form.

Basic skill achievement factors as predictors of success in selected community college general education course

Lobb, Jack L. 22 December 2005 (has links)
The purpose of this study is to examine the . relationship and effects of New Jersey College Basic Skills Placement Test (NJCBSPT) scores and grades in basic skills reading, elementary algebra, and English/ writing courses with the students' success in selected college-level general education courses in an attempt to establish predictor variables. In addition, the study examines the possibility that predictions of success in general education courses can be made more accurately by using multiple prediction variables. The population for the study consisted of seven years of successful basic skill course grades, New Jersey College Basic Skill Placement Test (NJCBSPT) scores and successful general education course grades for students at one small, rural community college. Coefficients of determination, correlation coefficients, t-tests, and linear and multiple regression were some of the analysis techniques used. / Ed. D.

Physical determination of the action

Hartmann, Bruno 01 December 2015 (has links)
My objective is a foundation of physics from the operationalization of its basic observables. We begin with classical and relativistic kinematics. Seizing on a programmatic proposal by Heinrich Hertz we arrive via quantification of energy-momentum at the equations of motion and the action functional. Finally we present a relativistic revision of energy, momentum and inertial mass. The goal is not primarily to change or improve the mathematical structure of mechanics, but to gain a deeper physical understanding of mechanics like Einstein with his gendanken experiments on relativistic kinematics. Starting from undisputed measurement operations and natural principles the mathematical formalism is only created and thus shown in a new light. This work is in the same context as current efforts to the "foundation of quantum mechanics", just with respect to the interpretation of the classical and relativistic calculuses.

An analysis of students' knowledge of graphs in mathematics and kinematics / Itumeleng Barnard Phage

Phage, Itumeleng Barnard January 2015 (has links)
Physics education research found that graphs in kinematics have been a problem to students, even at university level. The study hence investigates what deficiencies first-year Physics students at the Central University of Technology, Bloemfontein, South Africa have in terms of transferring mathematics knowledge and understanding when solving kinematics problems. According to the National Department of Education (DoE, 2003), mathematics enables learners to have creative and logical reasoning about problems in the physical and social worlds. Graphs in kinematics are one of the domains that need that skill in mathematics. DoE (2011) further emphasises that learners should be able to collect, analyze, organize and critically evaluate information at the end of their FET sector and that include graphing in kinematics. The study started by exploring graph sense and comprehension from literature. The study further explored from a literature review students‘ problems and possible solutions in transferring their mathematics understanding and knowledge to solve physics problems. The literature study served as conceptual framework for the empirical study, i.e. the design and interpretation of questionnaires, and interview questions. The mathematics and kinematics questions of the questionnaire were divided into four constructs, namely area, gradient, reading coordinates and form/expression of graphs. The participants undertook the questionnaire and interviews voluntarily according to the research ethics. Hundred and fifty two (152) out of 234 students registered for first-year physics from the faculties of humanities (natural science), health and environmental science and engineering and information technology undertook the questionnaire. The researcher interviewed 14 students of these participants as a follow up to the responses of the questionnaire. The responses of the participants were analysed statistically to conclude this study. The average percentages of the questionnaire showed that the majority (62.7% participants) have the mathematics knowledge compared to the low percentage of 34.7 % on physics knowledge. With regard to the constructs the participants generally performed similarly on gradient, reading coordinates and form/expression, i.e. they could either answer both the corresponding mathematics and physics questions and neither of them. In the area construct, most participants with the mathematics knowledge did not transfer it to the physics context. The study further revealed that the majority of interviewees do not have an understanding of the basic physics concepts such as average velocity and acceleration. The researcher therefore recommends that physical science teachers in the FET schools should also undergo constant training in data handling and graphs by subject specialists and academic professionals from Higher Education Institutions. Other remedial actions are also proposed in the dissertation. / MSc (Natural Science Education), North-West University, Potchefstroom Campus, 2015

Employment legislation concerning Chinese nationals in Botswana : lessons from SADC and the ILO / Cornelia Elizabeth Steinberg-Smit

Steinberg-Smit, Cornelia Elizabeth January 2015 (has links)
This study examines the employment of non-citizens within the framework of appropriate regulatory statues and constitutional dispensations, as contained in the domestic legislation of the individual countries, Botswana, Namibia, South Africa and Lesotho as part of the Southern African Development Community (SADC). Focusing on labour law development regarding the legislative position of the employment of non-citizens, such as; immigration requirements, basic minimum employment conditions and protection of employment rights have consequently been part of Africa-China economic relations with SADC host countries. The People's Republic of China (PRC), or China, assistance and its Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) impacts SADC globalised market economies. China State and Chinese companies, increasing engagements in Botswana, Namibia, and South Africa and to a lesser extent in Lesotho, through extended foreign diplomatic and bilateral trade relationships, are characterised by dominant employment of Chinese non-citizens within these host countries. Botswana and the other host countries’ labour market regulative legislation, faces the challenge of developing labour law regulating the protection of decent work, within the international ILO framework for fair and stable globalisation. Assessment of the current labour laws, and economic influences of the individual countries, would bridge the legal cultural gap and enhance sustainable economic growth. Valuable lessons learned from within the region have the potential of ensuring a more mutually beneficial outcome to the "win-win" scenario, from an African perspective, regarding China-Africa relationships. / LLM, North-West University, Potchefstroom Campus, 2015
