Sannolikhetsbaserad dimensionering av sprutbetong : Fördelningar för tjocklek och böjdraghållfasthet / Reliability-based design of shotcrete : Probability density functions of thickness and flexural strength

En av de sannolikhetsbaserade metoderna som kan användas för dimensionering av tunnlar är partialkoefficientmetoden. Denna metod ökar eller reducerar variabler med hjälp av partialkoefficienter, vilka kan kalibreras sannolikhetsteoretiskt. Eurokod tillhandahåller sådana partialkoefficienter för till exempel armerad betong. Problemet med partialkoefficienterna i Eurokod är dock att ingen skillnad görs med avseende på vad betongen skall användas till. Detta examensarbete har därför syftat till att undersöka möjligheten att ta fram nya partialkoefficienter specifikt för sprutbetongförstärkning då den dimensionerande brottsmekanismen är böjbrott, detta med hjälp av tillförlitlighetsteori, FORM/FOSM. Böjbrott i sprutbetongen kan uppkomma då vidhäftningen mellan berg och sprutbetong är låg, och sprutbetongen måste bära eventuella bergblock med sin momentupptagande förmåga. För att ta fram partialkoefficienterna har uppmätt data på sprutbetongtjockleken och böjdraghållfastheten i en av Citybanans tunnlar, Norrströmstunneln, varit grunden. Statistiska fördelningar har tagits fram för att beskriva dessa data, för att möjliggöra användandet av dem i sannolikhetsanalysen. Resultaten visade att en lognormalfördelning passade observerad data bäst för sprutbetongtjockleken, och en betafördelning passade bäst för böjdraghållfastheten. Vidare visade resultaten att sannolikhetsbaserade metoder vid dimensionering för denna brottsmekanism ännu inte kan rekommenderas, då de visade på en kraftig överdimensionering jämfört med hur det idag dimensioneras. Osäkerheterna kring vissa av de modeller och variabler som använts behöver först reduceras. / One of the probability based methods that may be used when designing a tunnel is the partial factor method. This method adjusts the value of variables with the help of partial factors, which may be calibrated using a reliability-based approach. The Eurocodes provide these partial factors for different materials and structures, such as reinforced concrete. A limitation with the provided partial factors from Eurocode is the lack of consideration for the usage of the concrete. This thesis aims to investigate the possibility to derive new partial factors specifically for shotcrete reinforcement, for the failure mechanism of flexural failure. This has been done by means of reliability theory,FORM/FOSM. Flexural failure in shotcrete may occur when the adhesion between the rock and shotcrete is low. Further, the shotcrete has to have the capacity to withstand bending moments from the rocks. To derive the new partial factors, the measured data of thickness and flexural strength of shotcrete in one of Citybanan's tunnels, Norrströmstunneln, in central Stockholm have been used as the basis for the analysis. The data was described by a statistical distribution which enabled the usage of them in the reliability analysis. The results showed that a lognormal distribution best described the shotcrete thickness while flexural strength was best fitted by a beta distribution. The results also showed that it is not recommended to use probabilistic methods in design for this failure mechanism unless uncertainties, arising from some of the models and variables used, are reduced. It clearly shows that it would lead to oversizing compared with the design methods used today.

Lösningsfokus i utvecklingssamtal

I detta arbete ville jag undersöka hur två gymnasielärare i svenska använde samtalsmetoden lösningsfokus i sina utvecklingssamtal. Jag observerade fem utvecklingssamtal vardera hos de båda lärarna, varpå jag intervjuade dem. Under observationerna såg jag att fokus överfördes till eleverna och de fick även huvudansvaret för sitt skolarbete. Intervjuerna kompletterade bilden och det blev tydligt vilka motiv lärarna hade för att använda lösningsfokus. Till exempel ansåg de att eleverna själva är experter på sitt eget skolarbete, samt på hur de kan arbeta för att nå sina mål. Efter mina undersökningar kunde jag dra slutsatsen att lärarna använder lösningsfokus i sina utvecklingssamtal, exempelvis genom att inte diskutera varför och hur problem har uppstått, utan istället fokusera på hur de kan lösas. Båda lärarna anser att det är ett bra verktyg som påverkar samtalen på ett positivt sätt, bland annat genom att eleven blir mer aktiv och formulerar sina egna lösningar. Lärarna känner också att det är skönt att ha en metod att utgå ifrån, då samtalsmetodik inte fått något nämnvärt utrymme i deras utbildning. / In this essay I wanted to look into how two teachers used solution focus in their development conversations. I observed five development conversations with each teacher, after which I interviewed the teachers. During the observations I saw that focus were transferred on to the students as well as the main responsibility for the students schoolwork. The interviews completed the picture and it became clear what motives the teachers had using solution focus. For example they believed that the students are experts in their own schoolwork and in how they can work to achieve their goals. After my surveys I came to the conclusion that the teachers use solution focus in their development conversations, by not discussing why, or how problems had occurred, but instead to focus on how they can be solved. Both teachers believe that solution focus is a commendable method that influences the conversations in a positive way. The students becomes more active and formulates their owns solutions for example. The teachers also feel that using a certain method provides a sense of security, as they didn’t study conversation methods during their teacher education.

For his first work composed without Schoenberg's supervision, Berg chose to set five short poems by his friend and intellectual idol, the controversial poet Peter Altenberg. Carrying the title Filnf Orchesterlieder nach Ansichtskarten-Texten von Peter Altenberg (1912), the cycle is at once aphoristic (with respect to the songs' duration) and titanic (with respect to their orchestration and motivic density). But the title invites the question: what imagery might the composer have hoped to illustrate with these musical postcards? This thesis investigates text-music relations in Berg's opus 4 with the objective of showing that the music's structure, far from being semantically neutral, participates actively in the création of rich poetic imagery anchored in the socio-cultural context of turn-of-the-century Vienna. Previous studies focus on the work's cyclic motives its interval-cycle substructure. The present study focuses on text-music relations and voice leading - the contrapuntal and harmonie procedures which govern the music's surface and determine its deep structure. It is shown that the voice-leading structures of the individual lieder - in both local detail and at a more broadly conceptual level - give form, meaning, and nuance to the poetic image that emerges in each song, and help define the different facets—physical, emotional, and spiritual — of the protagonist that inhabits them.

Its peel is a by-product discarded in Brazilian agribusiness. The concern about the environmental impacts and the high rate of losses and waste leads to the need to establish means for recovery of such waste. This study aimed to produce flour with peel Jaboticaba, develop biscuit cookie type - enriched with Jaboticaba skin flour instead of wheat flour and oatmeal, analyze technological aspects as much flour as biscuits made from mathematical models and analyze the chemical and functional aspects as much flour as the elaborate cookies. Chemical, microbiological and physical analyzes technological peel blemish in flour and crackers cookie type , according to official methods . All regression models cookies with bark were significant blemish . The water activity of all the cookies found below the recommended limit for the growth of microorganisms . Cookies formulations with higher proportions of bark flour have minor blemish that cookies formulations with higher proportions of oatmeal and wheat flour thicknesses . Moreover , they absorb more water , show lower values of breaking strength and have a decrease in color parameters ( L *, a * and b *) . Cookies made with larger fractions of oatmeal have lower values of specific volume . Formulations with higher percentages of bark jabuticaba flour and wheat flour tend to be more soluble in water . Both the standard cookie and cookie with Jabuticaba bark , selected from the desirability test meal were accepted among children 9-14 years. Embed shell flour blemish on cookies cookie type , increases the health benefits , since this has a high antioxidant capacity and high content of dietary fiber . It is necessary to apply further studies shell flour blemish in food products , since high levels of dietary fiber and bioactive compounds were detected in the peel blemish flour and crackers which were developed in this study. / A jabuticaba (Myrciaria cauliflora Berg) é um fruto muito apreciado e de importância nutricional encontrado principalmente no centro-sul do Brasil. Sua casca é um subproduto descartado nas agroindústrias brasileiras. A grande preocupação com os impactos ambientais e o elevado índice de perdas e desperdícios leva à necessidade de se criarem meios para o aproveitamento desses resíduos. Este estudo teve como objetivo produzir farinha com casca de jabuticaba, desenvolver biscoito tipo cookie - enriquecido com a farinha de casca de jabuticaba em substituição da farinha de trigo e farinha de aveia, analisar os aspectos tecnológicos tanto da farinha quanto dos cookies elaborados a partir de modelos matemáticos e analisar os aspectos químicos e funcionais tanto da farinha quanto dos cookies elaborados. Foram realizadas análises físicas, químicas, microbiológicas e tecnológicas na farinha de casca de jabuticaba e nos cookies, conforme metodologias oficiais. Todos os modelos de regressão dos cookies com casca de jabuticaba foram significativos. A atividade de água de todas as formulações encontrou-se abaixo do limite recomendado para o desenvolvimento de microrganismos. Cookies com maiores proporções de farinha de casca de jabuticaba possuíram espessuras menores que formulações com maiores proporções de farinha de aveia e farinha de trigo. Além disso, absorveram mais água, apresentaram menores valores de força de ruptura e possuíam diminuição nos parâmetros de cor (L*, a* e b*). Cookies produzidos com frações de farinha de aveia maiores apresentaram menores valores de volume específico. Formulações com maiores percentuais de farinha de casca de jabuticaba e farinha de trigo foram mais solúveis em água. Tanto o cookie padrão e o cookie com farinha de casca de jabuticaba, selecionado a partir do teste de desejabilidade, foram aceitos entre crianças de 9 a 14 anos. Incorporar farinha de casca de jabuticaba em cookie, aumenta os benefícios à saúde, visto que, esta possui atividade antioxidante e fibras alimentars. Faz-se necessário mais estudos de aplicação de farinha de casca de jabuticaba em produtos alimentícios, uma vez que foram verificadas fibras alimentares e compostos bioativos na farinha de casca de jabuticaba e nos cookies que foram desenvolvidos neste estudo.

Several family farms are at risk of becoming unviable, the constraints faced by virtue of its location next to rivers, areas of steep slopes or to their own water sources. In the Far-west region of Santa Catarina, various properties which are located at considerable APPs include spaces. Farmers face difficulties in getting the properties become economically viable to produce plots that are left over from the preservation of the PPAs. The objective of this study was to analyze the economic feasibility of growing fruit native APP or degraded areas. Determining the cost of production of the following native fruit species occurring in the region: Jabuticaba (Myrciaria cauliflora (Mart.) O. Berg), Pitanga (Eugenia uniflora L.), cherry (Eugenia involucrata DC.) Araticum and (Annona neosalicifolia H. Rainer). It was considered that the cost seeds and seedlings represent the total production cost for the analysis. We also analyzed the profitability of this type of cultivation compared to APP and profitability from two fruit (peach and orange) and an annual crop (soybean). It was found that these native fruit production is more feasible from seed, mainly due to the price of seedlings is high. The profitability of native fruit is bigger than the orange plantations, and smaller than the peach. The comparison with the soybean crop in the same area, considering the regional technology used showed greater viability in the native fruit. / A legislação brasileira impõe restrições à utilização de Áreas de Preservação Permanente (APP) para agricultura, sendo necessário buscar alternativas economicamente viáveis e adequadas à legislação ambiental. Diversas propriedades familiares estão em risco de se tornarem inviáveis, pelas restrições enfrentadas em virtude da sua localização próxima a rios, áreas de declive acentuado ou às próprias fontes de água. Na região Extremo-oeste de Santa Catarina, várias propriedades estão situadas em locais cujas APPs compreendem espaços consideráveis. Os agricultores enfrentam dificuldades em conseguir tornar as propriedades economicamente viáveis produzindo nas parcelas que restam em detrimento da preservação das APPs. O objetivo deste trabalho foi analisar a viabilidade econômica do cultivo de frutíferas nativas em APPs ou áreas degradadas. Foram determinados os custos de produção das seguintes espécies frutíferas de ocorrência nativa na região: Jabuticaba (Myrciaria cauliflora (Mart.) O. Berg), Pitanga (Eugenia uniflora L.), Cereja (Eugenia involucrata DC.) e Araticum (Annona neosalicifolia H. Rainer). Considerou-se o custo que as sementes e as mudas representam no custo total de produção para a análise. Também foi analisada a rentabilidade deste tipo de cultivo em APP e comparada à rentabilidade proveniente de duas frutíferas (Pêssego e Laranja) e uma cultura anual (soja). Verificou-se que a produção destas frutíferas nativas é mais viável a partir de sementes, principalmente em virtude do preço das mudas ser elevado. A rentabilidade de frutíferas nativas é maior do que a cultura da laranja, e menor do que a do pêssego. A comparação com a cultura da soja em mesma área, considerando a tecnologia regional utilizada mostrou maior viabilidade nas frutíferas nativas.

Diese Dissertation befasst sich mit räumlichen Wahrnehmungen und Diskursen, mit denen man den Raum und seine Bestandteile behandelte. Die Eroberung Sibiriens im 17. Jahrhundert bewirkte einen tiefgreifenden Wandel in den russischen Vorstellungen über die weit entfernte Peripherie sowie deren Ressourcen. Die neuen Denkweisen kristallisierten sich in einer diskursiven Formation heraus, die Macht über Raum und Rohstoffe Sibiriens symbolisierte und organisierte. Dieser „Berg-Diskurs“ trug moderne Züge, denn er bedurfte sich neuer Formen der Kontrolle über die Raumsproduktion. Diese Einstellung wurde allmählich zu einer erstaunlich überlebensfähigen räumlichen Ideologie und zum festen Bestandteil des russischen Bodenschätzediskurses der Zukunft. Die Rolle der Wissensproduzenten wechselte zwischen den zentralen und regionalen Institutionen und Netzwerken. Der „Altai“, der den kaiserlichen Bergbau-Bezirk und die Gebirgslandschaft umfasste, wurde auf Grund seines Rohstoffreichtums von Repräsentanten des russischen Staates als Region erfunden. Die Dissertation stellt die imaginären und realen Geographien des Altai in drei unterschiedlichen Dimensionen dar. Dabei geht es um den Wandel der Repräsentationen von geographischen Räumen und der Berglandschaften in Russland insgesamt (Makroebene), die Mehrschichtigkeit des russischen Diskurses über Bergregionen und Gebirgslandschaften (Mesoebene) und den Altai als facettenreiches Konzept einer komplexen imperialen geographischen Imagination (Mikroebene). Die Beschreibung des Altai faßte in sich zahlreiche inkohärente Bilder verschiedener sozialer Gruppen. Der Ort wurde durch mentale Geographien erfolgreich instrumentalisiert, z.B. „die Goldenen Gebirge“ und „die sibirische Schweiz“. Diese Bilder machten die Region sichtbar, sowohl für nationalistisch gesinnte Gruppen als auch die breiteren Bervölkerungsschichten. / This dissertation focuses on the production of imperial space with a particular emphasis on the role of power discourses concerning mineral resources. By relying on published materials, it aims to establish a new conceptual framework for the examining of cultural patterns and practices of imagining of space and mineral wealth. For that purpose, it introduces a concept of the ”Berg-Discourse” that expands our understanding of the Russian engagement with geographical space. It begins by exploring Russian exposure to the mountains and mineral resources of Siberia in terms of the spatial knowledge production. It then examines how Russian imperial strategies and aspirations were embedded in the making of the Altai, a vast mining territory in West Siberia that once formed a private domain of the Russian rulers. The dissertation argues that the making of the Altai was in many ways part of the same imperial impulse towards mineral exploitation. It explores the ways in which the Altai was imagined through its enormous mineral endowment; how the imagined place became real; and how this real place became imagined from various vantage points. As the study shows, the region acquired multiple mental representations, enjoying a near mythological presence across imperial culture. Finally, the dissertation concludes by showing how this landscape was incorporated into imperial and national myths in the course of production and consumption of spatial knowledge about the remote location.

Unsteady flow conditions at dam bottom outlet works due to air entrainment during gate closure : Berg River dam model

Thesis (MSc)--Stellenbosch University, 2012. / ENGLISH ABSTRACT: A trial closure of the emergency gate of the Berg River Dam was undertaken by the Trans- Caledon Tunnel Authority (TCTA) on 12 June 2008. The air vent downstream of the emergency gate was designed to introduce air to mitigate the negative pressures that were expected in the conduit during emergency gate operations. The emergency gate has to close when the radial gate at the downstream end of the outlet conduit fails. Contrary to the theoretical design, the measured air vent velocities in the field indicated that, while the emergency gate was closing, very large volumes of air were apparently continuously being released from the air vent, commencing when the gate was about 30% closed (i.e. 70% open). This is in contrast to what the design intended, namely that air should have been drawn into the vent. This thesis is concerned with the testing of a 1:14.066 physical model representing the outlet works and air vent of the Berg River Dam as a means to determine the reasons for the release of large volumes of air from the air vent during the trial closure in 2008. It also seeks solutions to mitigate the excessive airflow from the air vent. It was concluded that the air velocity in the air vent was independent of the rate of closure of the emergency gate, but to increase with increasing water head. The problem at the Berg River Dam was determined to be one of air blowback. Modifications were made to the configuration of the model in order to determine whether the configuration of the outlet works caused air to be released from the air vent. It was determined that the downward sloping roof at the outlet of the conduit, used to accommodate the radial gate chamber, was the cause of the air blowback phenomenon. An additional air vent was fitted directly onto the conduit at the constriction was found to be ineffective in reducing the air blowback. It was concluded that there are no rational structural change that can prevent or inhibit a recurrence of the blowback phenomenon in the Berg River Dam outlet conduit. The recommendation follows that the outlet conduit should not be constricted by any structural or mechanism further downstream in the conduit. / AFRIKAANSE OPSOMMING: ʼn Toetssluiting van die noodsluis van die Bergrivierdam is op 12 Junie 2008 deur die TCTA (Trans-Caledon Tunnel Authority) uitgevoer. Die lugskag stroomaf van die noodsluis is ontwerp om lug in te voer om die verwagte negatiewe drukke tydens die noodsluissluiting te beperk. Die noodsluis moet sluit indien die radiaalsluis aan die einde van die uitlaatpyp sou faal. In teenstelling met die teoretiese ontwerp, het die gemete lugsnelhede in die lugskag in die veld aangedui dat groot volumes lug voortdurend uit die lugskag vrygelaat word wanneer die noodsluis ongeveer 30% toe is (dit wil sê 70% oop). Dit is in teenstelling met die ontwerp, want die lugskag is ontwerp vir die insuig van lug. Hierdie tesis het ten doel om die redes vir die vrylating van groot volumes lug uit die lugskag vas te stel met behulp van ʼn 1:14.066 fisiese skaalmodel van die uitlaatwerke en lugskag van die Bergrivierdam soos getoets tydens die inwydingstoetssluiting in 2008. Die analises en verandering aan die uitleg toon aan dat die skuins afwaartse dak van die uitlaattonnel om die radiaalsluiskamer te huisves die rede was vir die vrylating van die lug uit die lugskag. ‘n Addisionele lugskag was gebou in die dak van die uitlaattonnel reg bo die sametrekking, maar was oneffektief om die terug vloei van lug te verminder. Die gevolgtrekking is dat daar geen rasionele strukturele verandering aangebring kan word aan die Bergrivier dam om die vrystelling van lug uit die lugskag te verhoed of te verminder nie. ’n Aanbeveling vir toekomstige ontwerpe is dus dat die uitlaattonnel nie beperkend by die uitlaatend moet wees nie.
