The purpose with this essay is to study how children in the fifth grade experience reading in three different reading cultures; library, home and in school. The children’s experiences from reading are compared to expectations from library and school. Data, to this study, is collected through qualitative interviews in two focus groups and analyzed by using an idea analysis. The INSU-model, Information Needs, Seeking and Use, and Aidan Chambers reading circle in combination with a triangle of the three reading cultures are used as a theoretical framework. The analysis shows that children are using reading for different purposes in different reading cultures. Children use reading in the school library and at home in a way it was attended to be used in the public library, to get experience. Reading in school is primarily used to learn, as an example to solve tasks and improve reading skills. The study also shows that children don’t use the public library, but if they have a school library available they will use it. One conclusion from this study is that the children don’t use the school library for educational purposes, as intended by the School inspection. Children uses reading in the school library to learn, but not for academic use, they read books that they are personal interested in outside school hours, such as books about horses and pottering. Also the children mostly read fictions from the school library and rarely non-fiction books. Another conclusion is that reading at home has become a social meeting place rather than the library or the school. At home the children tend to use more different social media, as an example Skype, and reading together with family members and friends as compared to the library or school. At home and in school reading are used to gain knowledge, in school to solve tasks and at home to get more information of personal interest. Regardless if the children are reading at home or in school they prefer to read fiction, although the purpose of reading varies. At home they read to enjoy the book while in school reading is primarily to improve the reading skill.

Syftet med denna uppsats är att med hjälp av Erving Goffmans dramaturgiska perspektiv undersöka biblioteket TioTretton som plats för rollgestaltning och ta reda på vilka slags roller som görs tillgängliga för barn som besöker biblioteket. Detta har gjorts genom att intervjua skolärare och bibliotekspersonal och analysera deras tal om barnen och biblioteket. Resultatet visar att TioTretton kan ses som en bakre region i förhållande till det vuxna samhället i stort, men också till de team som utgörs av barnen själva och deras umgängeskretsar. Det har även framkommit att den vuxnes roll i förhållande till barnen varierar. Vikten av någon som leder framträdandet, oavsett utgångspunkt, framhålls dock överlag. Bibliotekspersonalens roller som en annan sorts vuxna och bibliotekets utformning kan göra TioTretton till en god plats för rollgestaltning och då framförallt byten av roller.

This bachelor´s thesis analyzes the debate in a number of Swedish media regarding the introduction of video games as a new medium in the public libraries. The theory and method used is discourse analysis. Three questions were asked: how the introduction of video games as a new media in libraries is discussed, how is it motivated and in what way the authors of the articles analyzed are speaking about new media and the mission of the library.   The selected articles were divided into four themes and the analysis resulted in the identification of two main discourses, one which is positive to the introduction and integration of new media in the libraries’ collections, and one which has a more negative approach and uses quality and culture as an argument.   The conclusion is that video games are a medium so widely used that librarians have to decide whether or not they want to include it in the libraries’ collections, and by deciding this they reveal their attitude towards the mission and purpose of the public library.

Den här utvärderingen undersöker vilken typ av folkbibliotek användare vill ha idag. Den inriktar sig främst på tre teman; miljö, öppettider och utbud. Utvärderingsobjektet är Skellefteå stadsbibliotek och till viss del även närbiblioteken i Skellefteå. Jag använde mig av en kvantitativ metod i form av webbenkäter, för att få reda på svaren på mina frågeställningar. Jag tog även hjälp av litteratur som redan fanns skrivet om ämnet. Jag fick 62 svar på min webbenkät. Min huvudfråga är: Vilken typ av folkbibliotek vill användarna i Skellefteå kommun ha? Vilka underliggande frågor kommer jag att kortfattat presentera nedan, tillsammans med de slutsatser jag har hittat om respektive fråga. Miljö Vilken miljö vill användarna att folkbiblioteket ska ha? Det fanns tre olika miljöer som alternativ; lugn, tyst och rofylld miljö, spännande och stimulerande miljö och social och vardagsrumsmiljö. De flesta svarade att de vill ha alla tre miljöer i biblioteket. Min tanke kring detta är att man skulle kunna ha olika rum eller avdelningar som har olika miljöer så att man kan välja vilken typ av miljö man vill vistas i när man besöker biblioteket. På andra plats efter alla tre miljöer kom lugn, tyst och rofylld miljö som är den mer traditionella biblioteksmiljön. Öppettider Är användarna nöjda med öppettiderna på de bibliotek de besöker? Besökarna på biblioteken verkar överlag vara rätt nöjda med öppettiderna, även om det finns undantag. Användarna är nöjdare med Stadsbibliotekets öppettider än med närbibliotekets öppettider. Vilka dagar och tider skulle de helst vilja besöka biblioteket? Alla dagar verkar folk vilja besöka biblioteket, men måndagar och torsdagar var populärast. När det gäller vilken tid de vill besöka biblioteket, så har de flesta svarat mellan klockan tio på morgonen och klockan åtta på kvällen. Den allra populäraste tiden för besök var mellan klockan 18 och 20. Skulle användarna kunna tänka sig att besöka biblioteket obemannat efter ordinarie öppettider och med begränsad service? Mer än hälften av de svarande kunde tänka sig att besöka biblioteket obemannat efter ordinarie öppettider och med begränsad service. Utbud Vad brukar användarna göra, använda eller låna i det fysiska biblioteket? Av de som svarat är det vanligast att de lånar och återlämnar, läser/lånar fack- eller skönlitteratur i det fysiska biblioteket. Väldigt få av de som svarat brukar låna tv- och dataspel, musik, använda databaser och söka samhällsinformation. Vad brukar användarna göra, använda eller låna på bibliotekets webbplats? De flesta respondenterna som svarade på frågan om vad de gör på bibliotekets webbplats angav att de brukar låna om och reservera. Det fanns ett stort bortfall på den här frågan. Vilken typ av medieutbud tycker användarna är viktigt på biblioteket? De utbud som fanns med i enkäten var nyutgivna böcker, böcker som många vill läsa, böcker som kan vara svåra att hitta, tidningar och tidskrifter, ljudböcker, musik, film och tv- och dataspel. Många av respondenterna tyckte att de olika utbuden var ganska eller mycket viktiga. Det finns dock tre undantag musik, film och tv- och dataspel. Dessa verkar vara mindre viktiga än resten för de flesta av respondenterna. Detta betyder att de flesta verkar tycka att det är viktigare att biblioteket har ett bra utbud av litteratur än av andra nyare medier.

<p>Syftet med vår studie är att ta reda på hur sju lärare i år 3-6 arbetar för att väcka elevers läsintresse och hur de behåller elevernas läslust. För att få svar på detta har vi valt följande frågeställningar:</p><p>-Hur går lärarna tillväga för att få eleverna intresserade av att läsa skönlitteratur?</p><p>-Vad vill lärarna uppnå genom att arbeta med skönlitteratur i klassen?</p><p>-Hur har de intervjuade lärarnas arbetssätt förändrats för att väcka elevers läsintresse under deras verksamma tid som lärare?</p><p>För att få svar på våra frågeställningar gjorde vi en intervjustudie med sju lärare som har någon anknytning till skönlitteratur.</p><p>I resultatet av undersökningen kommer vi att belysa lärarnas åsikter om skönlitteraturens roll i undervisningen. Vi lyfter fram bibliotekets förändrade och mer betydande roll i samband med litteraturundervisningen. I studien betonar även lärarna hur betydelsefull bland annat högläsningen är för att väcka läsintresse hos eleverna.</p>

This is a paper that discusses the different information activities made on the Twitter webbsite by Stockholm city library. What type of information does the library focus on publishing and retweeting on Twitter? How is the tone of voice and the content in the dialogues between the library and their followers on the Twitter webbsite?The @ssbnu is examined by using a qualitative content analysis to categorise different information activites and find out wich information is given priority to. The paper aims to deepen the understanding for how the public library describes itself through the publications made on the Twitter webbsite in order to aid public libraries in developing their activities on social media.The paper show that by having an editor at the library actively working with Twitter there is a more wivid communication between followers and more often communication in the form of dialogue between the followers and the library. The content of the tweets and retweets are still traditional, focusing on reading fiction, the librarys own events and the library as a physical buildning.

The virtual visits at the public library websites are increasing more and more every day. That is why usability is something that becomes very important, especially for those people who have special needs and abilities. Therefore our aim in this bachelor thesis is to determine how user friendly the public library websites in Sweden are for people with special needs and abilities. The research question will be how well do the public library websites comport with the criterias that are used for maintaining the usability for people with special needs and abilities in other countries with respect to the Library Act clause 6? In the method 34 public library websites has been analyzed in two different ways: The first is an audit by an evaluation tool from WCAG that is checking if the websites comply with the A level criteria’s according to the guidelines. The second method examined the website code and specifications against the WCAG 2.0 guidelines. The evaluation has showed that many of the public libraries have very few tools for our target group if any at all. It also showed that they should have better navigation and contrast on their websites. What this thesis implicates that the majority of the public libraries should work on how to be more available and user friendly for people with special needs and abilities.

This thesis is a study on how information about library closures are portrayed in media in four national British newspapers. The aim is to raise awareness that what is written in media usually consists of a frame around what is said. Also that the information that comes through is not always a depiction of reality but rather a reflection of it. Questions raised were: How are library closures being portrayed in media? What kind of functions in the articles can be seen as important for the library and it's future?The theories used are framing theory and Jochumsen, Rasmussen and Skot-Hansens the four space model of the public library from 2012. The method used was a conventional content analysis which resulted in four main themes that described the articles content in relation to the closure of libraries. The four main themes are Economy, Availability, Functions and Reactions of closures where the theme of Functions related well to the four space model. The results also show that choice of newspaper may have an impact on how users receive information about library closures.

When the Tranemo library moved to new localities in 1991 there were also some changes made to make the library more user-friendly. The purpose of this essay is to see how a useroriented change can be done and how it has been perceived by members of the library staff and the library users. This is done by the following means: l) interviews with members of the library staff, 2) a questionnaire to the users in Tranemo, 3) a comparative questionnaire to users of the libraries in Skara and Lerum. The comparison was concentrated on how the library presents its material. The result of this comparison shows that even though there is a difference among the three libraries, the difference is small and it is impossible to say for sure that it has anything to do with the changes that have been done. The interviews and questionnaire in Tranemo give a positive picture of that library.
