FAD* for Stadsgårdskajen

Aejmelaeus-Lindström, Petrus January 2015 (has links)
FAD * for Stadsgårdskajen Re-introduction of some of the knowledge from the master builder to the contemporary architect. This project investigates the interaction between designing architecture and building architecture in a computer controlled context. Algorithms have been developed to simulate and control an automated in situ brick stacking process. Brick laying is a well researched topic for robotic processes. It is an ideal material for building with robots (in Stockholm) since it is a generic building block that is cheap and easy to produce locally. Corbeled vaults, instead of keystone vaults, can be built without support and with all identical elements and are therefore also suitable for robotic fabrication.  The algorithms have been incorporated in a parametric model that have been used to develop public building at Stadsgårdskajen, Stockholm. FAD is about creating and explore a different architectural expression as well as reintroducing the brick as a relevant construction material for Stockholm.

From the sugar age to the information age. : A new high school in Kävlinge. / Från sockerålder till informationsåldern. : En ny gymnasieskola i Kävlinge.

Bergqvist, Anders January 2014 (has links)
Decommissioned buildings and structures from the industrial age constitutes a challenge for many municipalities when society and the global economy changes. The transformation of the old sugar mill in Kävlinge originates from that shift – from the production of goods to an information and knowledge based society. How can this type of building be re-programmed as a stimulating place for sharing and acquire knowledge, and at the same time perform well in terms of energy? The sustainable strategies for energy preservation includes a new transparent second skin - a glass corridor facade, which stores the heat from the thermal mass (bricks). It also includes a passive ventilation system, using underground ducts to heat or cool the building depending on season.

Eriksson, Martin January 2014 (has links)
ABSTRACT One of the options of the main project at the bachelor degree level at KTH 2014 was to design a large pre school based on quite detailed proposal situated at Tantolunden, Stockholm. The building was to fit eight classes i.e. 130 children and 30 staff. An additional request was to take into consideration that the buildings were supposed to be used for other activites when the pre school was closed.   My ambition was to design a building based on pedagogy of play and learn and the terms decided by the children themselves. Three clear key ideas came out from the progress of a series of workshops with the children from Ragvald’s preschool.   - The preschool should have towers to play in - Bricks are the best material to use - It should be easy to walk in and out   I made a promise to make sure the three  ideas would be incoperated in my proposal/design. The result was a series of buildings, eight in total, linked by towers and overbuilt passages stretching over one of the existing paths in the park. The individually designed towers were made so that the public could use them outside opening hours. The towers were namned the Periscope, the Castle, The Solar system and the Slide . Furthermore the upper floors were designed so it would be easy  to rent them out to external children- or youthgroups. Or just to hire for a birthday party.

Anteckningar om tegel

Hidemark, Erik January 2020 (has links)
How can I portray history so that it becomes bodily experienced? This work aims to, with contemporary addition to a site with significant historical value, investigate haptic understanding and the bodily experience of a material. In my memory the brick is hard, cold, sharp and heavy. How will it meet the body? This work is based on a perceived materiality. With the bricks as a starting point, both the theory of the body's meeting with materials and embodied working methods are presented. The work contains studies on the brick that are learned through the perceived meeting with the material, these studies are moreover applied to the final design proposal. By working towards the public space, a playground, this project reflects over the importance of experiencing material in order to trigger imagination.

Polyfunkční budova / Mixed-use building

Slabý, Václav January 2022 (has links)
The subject of the diploma thesis is the elaboration of project documentation for the construction of a multifunctional building. The building is concerning three floors in one part and two floors in the other part. Entrances for residential area and services are separate. On the first floor there is a barrier-free apartment, technical facilities and there is also space for trade and services. On the second floor there are three residential units and office space. On the third floor there are housing units. The roof above the 3rd floor and partly above the 2nd floor is designed as a flat vegetation with limited access. The load-bearing and non-load-bearing masonry in the above-ground floors is made of ceramic blocks. Overhanging walls, as well as shaft walls, are designed from plasterboard. The facade is solved by the ETICS system. Ceiling structures are composed of pre-tensioned SPIROLL panels. The roof is vegetative, flat.

Strengnes Stadshall

Enegård, Lars-Erik January 2019 (has links)
About 50 miles west of Stockholm is Strängnäs located. A small town that has its roots in the Swedish Middle Ages. Since the city for many years did not have any actual public collection building, the idea of creating a city hall down by the harbor area became a positive and exciting challenge. The essential factors that came to specifically form the basis for designing the "Strengnes City Hall" are therefore the following: - To challenge the northern position by letting the light / sun reach the "essential" parts of the building bodies, as well as the surroundings with accommodation that today has fully exposed sunlight from south and west. Therefore, the height of the building and ceiling angles are adapted to the sun's path. - Creating a physically "light" and compliant structure that at the same time docks minimally against the south-facing brick building, which at the same time creates a courtyard on the roof that opens to the harbor area in the west and evening sun. - Working according to an aesthetic formula with an exterior materiality that alloys itself with the "small" town and the square-like harbor area. The building therefore consists of two interconnected building bodies with two main functions where concepts such as "utility and pleasure" interact in the different spatialities. With regard to the property's exposure to the large open square area to the west, consideration has therefore been taken in both the interior as well as the exterior room, both in terms of visual and functional experience.

The Estate Of Mendacity: An Interpretation Of William's Most Ambiguous Character

Bowlen, Daniel 01 January 2010 (has links)
I performed the role of Brick Pollitt at Lake Mirror Theatre in Lakeland, Florida from April 20- April 30 2006. The role of Brick Pollitt provided me with several acting challenges as well as multiple subjects to research. The most challenging aspects of portraying the character of Brick Pollitt are his alcoholism, issues of sexuality, and tormented familial relationships. Brick Pollitt journeys in the period of one day through major challenges in two key relationships. He moves from dominance in his relationship with Maggie to capitulation and from isolation in his relationship with Big Daddy to mutual understanding. Brick's relationships are further complicated by questions surrounding his recently deceased best friend Skipper and drives (alcoholism) that may be perceived as self destructive. My preliminary work has led me to believe Brick is in search of peace ('the click') in a tormented life (Williams, Cat 2.47). The nature of the torment needs further research for definition. Some critics argue Brick's sexuality is ambivalent, and he is repressing homosexual drives. Equally possible is arguing the homosexuality was restricted to Skipper. Making a decision about the definition of this relationship is key to making choices within the play because the friendship was so important to Brick's perception of himself. Brick believed his relationship was the "one true and pure thing" in a life filled with "mendacity" (Williams, Cat 2.50). 'Mendacity' is Bricks reference to his disgust with "lyin' an' liars' (Williams, Cat 2.50-51). He is lost without this anchor for his life and it has impacted his ability to interact with the world around him. Determining Brick's sexuality in my portrayal will be central to my process while I also embrace research into related areas of behavior. To supplement my research of alcoholism and Brick's sexuality, the following topics: -A Psycho-Analytical study of the character Brick Pollitt and his "archetypal" relationships with Maggie, Big Daddy, Skipper, Gooper, and his place in society. -The evolution of the character Brick Pollitt through various scripts and screenplays. From Williams's first script through to dealing with the Hays Code. A study of Tennessee Williams life history and the influence on the play. -The history of Cat on a Hot Tin Roof from its Morosco Theatre Broadway debut in New York City on March 24, 1955, followed by its film release in 1955 starring Paul Newman, Burl Ives, and Elizabeth Taylor. Any successful portrayal of Brick Pollitt in Cat on a Hot Tin Roof demands intense focus to individual relationships within the ensemble. The central theme of the play is 'mendacity' (deceit) (Williams, Cat 2.50). Brick uses this word to describe his disgust, but the 'mendacity' of his human relations in the aging and decaying Southern society is what troubles him (Williams, Cat 2.50). Discovering the ties between family, 'mendacity', and society are relevant to the execution of the play (Williams, Cat 2.50). I believe depiction of Brick Pollitt in this Pulitzer Prize winning American Classic will best present my abilities achieved in the Master of Fine Arts Program
