"Wow, now I've at least done something that a parent is expected to do" : A study of Godnattsagor inifrån

Alzén, Sara January 2019 (has links)
This master's thesis examines how the social activity of the library with books and literature can strengthen the contact between imprisoned fathers and their children. The project Godnattsagor inifrån has been studied from three different perspectives, the library, criminal authorities and the prisoners with their children. Interviews were conducted with the different actors of the project. The perspective social constructivism and the concept literacy practice were used to analyze the interviews and the project. In the prison reading program Godnattsagor inifrån the fathers choose a story from a children’s storybook and read the text, the story is recorded on a CD and sent to the child on the outside. The project attempts to create or strengthen the bonds between fathers and children with help of reading experiences. The fathers take part in a study circle where they are introduced to the library activities and practice how to read out loud to their children. This also includes reading and appreciating literature for themselves. I have noticed that Godnattsagor inifrån can inspire children to be reading people. It has also been noticed that the project can have the same impact on the prisoner´s identity. The cooperation between the prison, the library and the families increase the possibilities for both the children and their fathers. My knowledge contribution is to show how important reading is and why. What happens to the individual when given the opportunity to read? This is a two years master´s thesis in Library and Information Science.

Grohp, Hanna January 2021 (has links)
A woman who murders has high news value and public interest. This is not because a murder has been committed, but because it is a woman who committed the crime. Johanna Möller is one of the most talked about female criminals in Sweden. It shows in the media attention that has been given to her. Many TV documentaries and podcasts have been produced about her and her entire crime story. The purpose of this study is to gain a broader understanding and to investigate how Johanna Möller is presented in the podcast. How is a woman who has committed a murder portrayed and which stereotypes are salient? How do narrative strategies affect the portrayal of the female criminal? This research is based on a qualitative thematic content analysis in which five episodes of Rättegångspodden about Johanna Möller have been transcribed and examined. The result of the study shows that Johanna Möller is portrayed in a stereotypical way, where the journalists relies heavily on the previous image established about her. The narrative strategies affect the story in a way that only works in a negative way for Johanna.

Konstruktionen av brottslingar i kriminalpolitiska program : En kritisk diskursanalys

Jonsson-Lindberg, Patricia, Elers Zander, Anna January 2019 (has links)
Construction of culprits within criminal policy programs: A critical discourse analysis. The purpose of this study was to make visible discourses within criminal policy before the elections of 2018 through analysis of the established political parties ́ criminal policy programs. Method qualitative content analysis was used to bring out categories, later analysed with Fairclough ́s critical discourse analysis. Constructions of culprits as “foreigner”, “in gang”, “organized”, “young”, “male” and “non-ethical Swedish” emerged. Other groups were crime victims identified as “children”, “juveniles”, “elders”, “females” and “entrepreneurs/business owners”. The crimes observed were honor crimes, terrorism, crimes of violence (especially domestic violence), sexual offences and internet-based crime. The constructions may create a skewed interpretation of criminality and feelings of “us and them”. This may lead to “them” labelled as the criminals and “us” as their potential victims. The discourses in the programs therefore risk sustaining unequal power configurations in society.

Ungdomsbrottslighet, en allvarlig fara? : En diskursanalys av hur unga lagöverträdare framställs i svensk nyhetsmedia / Juvenile delinquency, a serious threat? : A discourse analysis of how criminal youth is portrayed in Swedish news media.

Holmer, Sara, Öberg, Niclas January 2020 (has links)
Juvenile delinquency is a big problem in Sweden according to the news media. The newsreports that violent crime among youths is occurring frequently, now more than ever before. Drug use, vandalism, abuse, and organized crime is rampant among the criminal youth. The Swedish justice system is powerless to resolve this issue, as reoffenders are a common occurrence among the criminal youth. It is only a matter of time before you fall victim to this criminal wave. Is this the reality we live in, or is what the news media wants to portray by constructing their own version of reality? The findings of this study show that the news media are pursuing their own agenda and are using an occurring set of discourses as their means. The authors of this study are, through a critical discourse analysis, investigating how the news media are describing the criminal youth in Sweden.

Does police officer´s attitudes towards criminals affect their attitude to the style of interrogation that should be used?

Tönnäng, Pernilla January 2021 (has links)
The purpose of this study was to investigate whether police attitudes towards two different types of offenders, economic offenders and sex offenders differed and whether the attitudes towards these offenders influenced their choice of interrogation style and if the police advocated a more dominant interrogation style when questioning suspects for sexual offences compared to suspects of economic offences. In order to answer the study's questions, a quantitative method was used with a between group design. One online survey in two different versions were used, one for economic offenders and one for sex offenders. Each survey then consisted of two parts, one related to attitudes and one related to interrogation. 55 police officers participated in the study and were distributed by random sampling to each condition. The results showed that there were no significant differences in police officer´s attitudes between economic offenders and sexual offenders, nor did the police officer´s advocate a certain interrogation style for any of the crime types. But the results showed a significant prediction between attitude and interrogation style when it comes to sex offenders but not to economic offenders, which means that attitude predict the interrogation style for sex offenders but not for economic offenders.

I have a processed trauma today thanks to bibliotherapy” : A qualitative interview study of bibliotherapy as a therapeutic method for children or adolescents with a parent in prison

Mangialardo, Viktor January 2023 (has links)
This thesis investigates the effects of bibliotherapy on children and adolescents with a parent in prison. In addition, it also investigates why someone would choose to use bibliotherapy when leading a group of children and adolescents with a parent in prison. In addition, it aims to compare the effects of structured bibliotherapy to an unstructured bibliotherapy done without guidance. The organization BUFFF is used in order to get in contact with people that had a parent in prison when they were young and used bibliotherapy to cope and improve their mental wellbeing. Specifically, Pia Bergström who led a bibliotherapeutic group focused on writing at BUFFF.                   Interviews were conducted with Pia Bergström because of her involvement as a leader of bibliotherapy and four adults who, during their childhood, had an incarcerated parent and used bibliotherapy in different ways to endure and process their situation. Audio from the interviews were recorded and transcribed. During their transcription the interviews were slightly adjusted to preserve the interviewees anonymity and to make the transcriptions easier to read. The answers were then organized into thematic subjects that were used to structure the analysis. Most of the answers were positive towards bibliotherapy and the effect that it has had on the interviewee’s lives. Everyone interviewed would recommend bibliotherapy as a form of therapy both for children with an incarcerated parent or other traumatic circumstances. The importance of context was evident, and it seemed to help the interviewee’s cope because they realized that they were not alone and could experiment in a safe environment, something that the two people interviewed that used bibliotherapeutic methods on their own did not experience. Ultimately the thesis results answered what they aimed to investigate and indicate that bibliotherapy can have a positive impact for many children in trying situations.
