3D real time object recognition

Amplianitis, Konstantinos 01 March 2017 (has links)
Object recognition is a natural process of the human brain performed in the visual cor- tex and relies on a binocular depth perception system that renders a three-dimensional representation of the objects in a scene. Hitherto, computer and software systems are been used to simulate the perception of three-dimensional environments with the aid of sensors to capture real-time images. In the process, such images are used as input data for further analysis and development of algorithms, an essential ingredient for simulating the complexity of human vision, so as to achieve scene interpretation for object recognition, similar to the way the human brain perceives it. The rapid pace of technological advancements in hardware and software, are continuously bringing the machine-based process for object recognition nearer to the inhuman vision prototype. The key in this eld, is the development of algorithms in order to achieve robust scene interpretation. A lot of recognisable and signi cant e ort has been successfully carried out over the years in 2D object recognition, as opposed to 3D. It is therefore, within this context and scope of this dissertation, to contribute towards the enhancement of 3D object recognition; a better interpretation and understanding of reality and the relationship between objects in a scene. Through the use and application of low-cost commodity sensors, such as Microsoft Kinect, RGB and depth data of a scene have been retrieved and manipulated in order to generate human-like visual perception data. The goal herein is to show how RGB and depth information can be utilised in order to develop a new class of 3D object recognition algorithms, analogous to the perception processed by the human brain.

Semiflexible biopolymers in bundled arrangements

Schnauß, Jörg, Händler, Tina, Käs, Josef A. 04 August 2016 (has links) (PDF)
Bundles and networks of semiflexible biopolymers are key elements in cells, lending them mechanical integrity while also enabling dynamic functions. Networks have been the subject of many studies, revealing a variety of fundamental characteristics often determined via bulk measurements. Although bundles are equally important in biological systems, they have garnered much less scientific attention since they have to be probed on the mesoscopic scale. Here, we review theoretical as well as experimental approaches, which mainly employ the naturally occurring biopolymer actin, to highlight the principles behind these structures on the single bundle level.

Using bundle adjustment for camera Calibration and 3D reconstruction from multiple images

Tsai, Jeng Jiun Unknown Date (has links)
Automated 3D modeling of the need for accurate 3D points, and location of the 3D points depends on the accuracy of corresponding points, so the search for corresponding points in this area has been a research topic, and the use of SBA(Sparse Bundle Adjustment) to optimize the camera parameters is also a common practice, however, if there are a few more error 3D points, the SBA will be greatly affected. In this paper, we establish the corresponding points and their geometry relationship from multi-view images. And the 3D patches are used to refine point positions. We translate the normal to get many patches, and project them into visible images. The NCC(Normalized Cross Correlation) values between patches in reference image and patches in visible image are used to estimate the best correspondence points. And they are used to get better camera parameters by SBA(sparse bundle adjustment). Furthermore, it is because that it usually exist outliers in the data observed, and they will influence the results by using SBA. So, we use our robust estimation method to resist the outliers. In our experiment, SBA is used to filter some outliers to reduce the reprojection error. After getting more precise camera parameters, we use them to reconstruct the 3D model more realistic.

The present work aims to design and study an air-PCM heat exchanger unit as a passive solution for thermal comfort assessment in buildings during summertime, providing tools to ease the design and building integration. The PCM present a large storage capacity per volume unit where by, they can contribute to the reduction of the energy consumption related to cooling applications. Although, theyshow some drawbacks, as a low thermal conductivity in commercial PCM, so a wellthought design of these kind of systems is necessary to achieve adequate thermal performances. The first part of this thesis surveys the existing systems through a literature review, highlighting the geometry relation with the physics and thermal performance. This search provided the bases for the development of an air-PCM unit design, following a problem-solving methodology developed by the I2M laboratory. A keyword matrix was obtained from the physical phenomena and functional analysis of the unit. From this matrix, the patents analysis provided inspiration for the design resulting in a tubebundle air-PCM heat exchanger with vertical tubes aligned perpendicular to the airflow. The development of design and integration in buildings tools was sought through a modeling that can accurately predict the thermal performance of the system.Simplified models are preferred for this task. Nevertheless, they can under predict the actual performance if the physical phenomena involved is not properly accounted. Then, local and global experimental approaches were used to achieve anunderstanding of the physics associated with charging and discharging cycles in theunit. For this, a test bench was installed, measuring temperature and airflow underdifferent in let conditions, accompanied by a visual tracking through digital images.Image and data processing were used to obtain thermal performance indicators and equivalent correlations using known dimensionless numbers for convective conductive heat transfer mechanisms in the PCM.These findings allowed the development of thermal models based on energy balances, that accounted the complexity of phenomena involved in the unit for performance prediction. Finally, the thermal performance of the system was tested intwo buildings applications: as a mobile unit in a PEH house in Gradignan and as anactive façade in a building in Talence.

Cabeda, Estêvan Vieira 25 October 2013 (has links)
The objective of this study was to evaluate diagnostic accuracy of CTP in patients with left bundle branch block (LBBB) who were being evaluated for coronary artery disease (CAD) and the additional value of CTP on computed tomography angiography (CTA) using 320-row detector CT scanner and compare them with single-photon emission computed tomography (SPECT) for detection of myocardial ischemia with significant coronary stenosis >= 70% using quantitative invasive coronary angiography (QCA) and coronary CT angiography as references. Material and Methods: Forty two LBBB patients with SPECT ( < 2 months) in diagnostic evaluation for CAD were referred to stress CT protocol which included calcium score, CTP, CTA and myocardial delayed enhancement. Thirty patients were referred to invasive coronary angiography. Independent blinded observers performed analyses of the images. Per-patient and perterritory analyses were conducted. Ethical committee aproval was obtained and all patients gave informed consent. Results: The mean age was 63 +- 10 years. 67% were women (28 patients). The total mean radiation dose was 9,3 +- 4,6 mSv. In per-patient sensitivity, specificity, positive and negative values were 86%, 89%, 80 and 93%, for CTP (p=0,001) (kappa 0.74) and 63%, 91% 65% and 90% (p < 0,001) in per-territory analysis (kappa 0.55), respectively. In both analyses, CTA showed excellent accuracy with area under receiver operating curve (AUC) = 0.9. Fair agreement was demonstrated between SPECT and QCA (kappa 0,32 e 0,26) in per-patient and per-territory analyses, respectively. The combined analysis of CTA with CTP, improved diagnostic accuracy for detection of coronary stenosis with hemodynamically significant luminal reduction ( >= 70%) compared with CTA, CTP or SPECT alone, demonstrated by sensitivity, specificity, and positive and negative predictive values of 93%, 87%, 87%, 93% (p < 0,0001) in the combined evaluation by patient and 85%, 90%, 79%, 93% (p < 0,0001) in the combined evaluation by territory. Conclusion: The use of customized stress CT protocol is feasible and has good accuracy for the diagnosis of CAD in patients with LBBB with results better than SPECT. The combination of PMT and ATC has improved the diagnostic accuracy of the assessment of significant coronary obstruction in patients with LBBB

Desenvolvimento de modelos preditores de óbito cardíaco na terapia de ressincronização / Development of predictive models of cardiac mortality in resynchronization therapy

Rocha, Eduardo Arrais 28 February 2014 (has links)
However, 30%-40% do not respond to CRT. Therefore, there is a need to develop multifactorial indexes to better select and follow these patients. Objective: This work aims to develop predictive models for the risk of cardiac death or transplantation (Tx) at different stages of CRT. Methods: We performed a prospective observational study of 116 patients, 69.8% males, functional class (FC) III (68.1%) and IV (31.9%), LBBB in 71.55%, age 64.89 ± 11.18 years. We studied clinical, electrocardiographic, and echocardiographic variables and performed Cox and logistic regression with ROC and Kaplan- Meier curves. Results: The cardiac mortality was 16.3% (19 patients) in the 34.09 ± 17.9 follow-up months. Pre-implantation, the right ventricular dysfunction (RVD), EF <25%, and the use of high doses of diuretics (HDD) increased risk of cardiac death or Tx of 3.9, 4.8, and 5.9 fold, respectively, and in the first year, the variables RVD, HDD, and hospitalizations for CHF increased risk of death of 3.5, 5.3, and 12.5, respectively. In the 2nd year, the variables RVD and FC III / IV (NYHA) were significant in the multivariate Cox model. The accuracies of the models were 84.6%, 93%, and 90.5%, respectively. Conclusions: Cardiac death predictive models were developed in different stages of CRT, and were based on the analysis of simple clinical and echocardiographic variables. The models showed good accuracy and can help in the selection and follow-up of these patients

Estrutura do nervo alveolar inferior em fetos humanos da 19ª a 36ª semana de vida intrauterina / Inferior alveolar nerve structure in human fetuses from 19th to 36th weeks of intrauterine life

Silva, Ricardo Eustaquio da 11 December 2012 (has links)
The inferior alveolar nerve (Nai), the thickest branch of the mandibular nerve (V pair of cranial nerve), is functionally related to jaw and lower teeth innervation as well as, being part of the surrounding smooth tissue. The Nai morphology has been systematically studied in mandible of adults however, no definitive consensus has been reached in relation to its branched pattern. Therefore, this study was been performed in 19 to 36 week-gestation fetuses, due to the importance of determining a basic model of Nai as available data refers only to its arrangement in adults. Micro dissection and Scanner Electron Microscopy (MEV) were performed on 86 human hemi-mandibles of both sexes in order to evaluate the morphological intraosseous pattern of Nai and its branches, its connective tissue and their relationship with vascular structures. In connection with the morphological pattern of intramandibular segment of Nai, four types of branches were proposed: Type I (16%) where Nai give rise to 3 main branches: posterior inferior alveolar nerve (Naip), medium (Naim), and anterior (Naia); Type II (34%), similar to Type I but Naim was absent; Type III (30%), similar to the first, however Naim and Naia were absent; and type IV (20%),the classic form of Nai, from which only Naia was raised. A series of connections was verified among all of the nervous bundles, especially between Nai and Naip. besides dental and periodontal branches commonly arising from Naip, Naim and Naia. In relation with the connective tissues, it was shown that they became thicker as the fetuses are developing; at this stage it was also noted one neurovascular sheath covering nerve bundles and blood vessels. Relatively to the inferior alveolar artery position, adjacent to mandible foramen, it can, frequently, cross the nerve bundle through medial (41%) or lateral surface (55%), reached after its final position on the superior surface of nerve bundle; the inferior alveolar veins (1 to 3), are posterior-medially positioned to the neurovascular bundle other structures. The terminology paramandibular vein was proposed to the Serres vein observed in all specimens studied which was surrounded by bone channel.

O anel de cohomologia do espaço de órbitas de Zp -ações livres sobre produtos de esferas / The cohomology rings of the orbit spaces of Zp-free transformation groups of the product of two spheres

Mercado, Henry José Gullo 03 June 2011 (has links)
Este resultado foi provado por R. M. Dotzel, T. B. Singh and S. P. Tripathi em [14] / Let denote by X ~ p \'S POT. m\' x \'S POT. n\' finitistic space with mod p cohomology ring isomorphic to the cohomology ring of a product of spheres \'S POT. m\' x \'S POT. n\' , which admits a free action of the cyclic group G = Zp, with p an odd prime. Our goal in this work is to determine the cohomology ring of the orbit space X / G, using as main tool the Leray-Serre spectral sequence associated to the Borel fibration X \'SETA\" \'imath\' \'X G \'SETA\' \'pi\' BG, where BG is the classifying space of the G-universal bundle wG = (EG;BG; pG; G;G) and XG = EG x G X is the Borel space. This result was proved by R. M. Dotzel, T. B. Singh and S. P. Tripathi in [14]
