Psigoterapeutiese hantering van perfeksionisme / Psychotherapeutic handling of perfectionism

Van Vuuren, Elmarie Janse 01 January 2002 (has links)
Text in Afrikaans / The purpose of this study was to determine the nature, origin and negative consequences of perfectionism and to set guidelines for the therapeutic handling of perfectionism. Two literature studies were done to investigate the phenomenon and therapeutic techniques with regards to perfectionsim. A questionnaire was developed as aid to the therapist to identify negative perfectionism and associated problem areas. An empirical study was done to investigate the effectivity of the questionnaire and to compose a program and guidelines for the therapist and perfectionist. Results of the study indicated that negative perfectionism resulted in affective, cognitive, interpersonal and behavioural consequences for the client. It further showed that it is necessary to find the origin of the client's perfectionism and to give them insight in their problem to enable the therapist to succesfully apply cognitive behavioral therapy. / Educational Studies / M. The Effect of International Taxation on Group Structures of Multinationals

Amberger, Harald, Kohlhase, Saskia 10 1900 (has links) (PDF)
We examine the effect of tax burden differences between organizational forms on multinationals choosing an organizational form for a newly established foreign affiliate. Analyzing micro-level data on inbound foreign direct investment relations in Germany, we find that a higher tax burden on foreign income earned in a corporate subsidiary significantly increases the tendency of a multinational to choose a non-corporate flow-through. Income-shifting opportunities, industry-specific risk, country-level differences in regulatory quality, and host-country experience moderate this effect and thus shape the cost-benefit relation of organizational forms in cross-border settings. In addition, we document that multinationals establishing a new affiliate as a flow-through on the basis of a tax benefit invest less in that affiliate and exhibit a more complex group structure. Taken together, our results provide evidence on how tax rules shape group structures of multinationals and suggest that an asymmetric taxation of organizational forms has economic consequences. / Series: WU International Taxation Research Paper Series

The determinants and the consequences of adopting accounting standards in Islamic banks : a cross country study

Al Qamashoui, Aziza January 2018 (has links)
This study investigates the determinants of adopting accounting standards (AAOIFI, IFRS or local standards) in thirty different countries with an Islamic banking industry. This study also examines the link between corporate governance disclosure, corporate social responsibility disclosure, and the adoption of accounting standards in the Islamic banking industry (IBI) as consequences for the adoption process. To the best of my knowledge, this is the only study that empirically investigates this topic. Environmental determinism theory is used as a framework to develop and test for explanations of the accounting standards used in countries where Islamic banks operate. Using multinomial logistic analysis to investigate the determinants of adopting any of the accounting standards sets (AAOIFI, IFRS, LOCAL), I find that both internal environmental factors, such as the level of education and the sophistication of the financial press, as well as enforcement factors, such as the existence of a centralised Sharia committee, are likely to have an impact on the accounting standards adopted by the Islamic banking industry. In regard to the second objective of examining the link between corporate governance disclosure, corporate social responsibility disclosure, and the adoption of accounting standards in the Islamic banking industry (IBI), multivariate regression was used to analyse the data. The results present that: there is an association between corporate governance disclosure and social responsibility disclosure with the accounting standard adopted in the country. The analysis also presents that both types of disclosure within the IBI is associated with the other non-accounting institutions in the country as openness to economy, political stability, and enforcement mechanisms such as a centralised Sharia committee in the country. This result implies that the specific accounting standards adopted by the Islamic banking industry are subject to the internal environment of, and the enforcement mechanisms imposed by, the country. This result further suggests that accounting institutions such as accounting standards adoption and non-accounting institutions are associated with disclosure practices in IBI. Therefore, a conclusion can be drawn that adoption of accounting standards within the Islamic banking industry is an important accounting institution which can be determined by other institutions, as well as affecting disclosure practices in the industry.

The Differential Effects of Prison Contact on Parent-Child Relationship Quality and Child Behavioral Changes

January 2017 (has links)
abstract: While incarceration can be detrimental for inmates, the children of prisoners can suffer from behavioral issues, poor school performance, and a higher risk of crime and delinquency across the life-course. Separation from one's family is part of what makes incarceration a punishment, but what can be done to ensure that this punishment has the least harmful effect on children? Prison visitation presents an intriguing opportunity to lessen the potential harms of parental incarceration. Using data from the Arizona Prison Visitation Project (APVP), the current study focuses on inmates who were parents to minor children and seeks to determine: 1) do different types and different amounts of prison contact (in-person, phone, and mail) correlate with changes in the quality of parent-child relationships and 2) does a change in parent-child relationship quality correlate with a change in child behavior. The results from the analysis suggest that visitation and mail contact are associated with positive increases in parent-child relationship quality. Also, positive changes in parent-child relationship quality were associated with a decrease in the odds of children having behavioral problems during incarceration. This study provides some support for the ability that prison contact can have to increase relationship quality, which in turn, may decrease the presence of behavioral issues in the children of incarcerated parents. Future directions in policy should consider measures to subsidize or refund contact costs, encourage contact between parents and their children, and involve children in in-prison programming designed to improve contact and relationships between parents and their children. / Dissertation/Thesis / Masters Thesis Criminology and Criminal Justice 2017

Gender Differences in the Links between Alcohol-related Consequences and Perceived Need for and Utilization of Treatment

January 2013 (has links)
abstract: Past literature has indicated that the majority of people with alcohol problems never seek treatment and that this is especially true of women. Relatively few studies have investigated how different types of alcohol-related consequences longitudinally predict men and women's perceived need for treatment and their utilization of treatment services. The current study sought to expand the literature by examining whether gender moderates the links between four frequently endorsed types of consequences and perceived need for or actual utilization of treatment. Two-hundred thirty-seven adults ages 21-36 completed a battery of questionnaires at two time points five years apart. Results indicated that there were four broad types of consequences endorsed by both men and women. Multiple-group models and Wald chi square tests indicated that there were no significant relationships between consequences and treatment outcomes. No gender moderation was found but post-hoc power analyses indicated that the study was underpowered to detect moderation. Researchers need to continue to study factors that predict utilization of alcohol treatment services and the process of recovery so that treatment providers can better address the needs of people with alcohol-related consequences in the areas of referral procedures, clinical assessment, and treatment service provision and planning. / Dissertation/Thesis / Ph.D. Psychology 2013

This study examined the interrelationship between episodes of bullying in childhood and adolescence and Social Anxiety \ Social Phobia in adulthood. Bullying is a specific type of peer violence described as an abuse of power continued over time, with the clear intention of distressing, intimidating and assaulting another person in the permanent coexistence of local collectives, occurring preferred, but not exclusively, on schools. Bullying can then be considered as a strong negative interference factor for development. The Social Anxiety \ Social Phobia is characterized as a pathological picture in which a person fears the social life to be worried about being humiliated and embarrassed. The difficulty in social situations during childhood and adolescence may influence the development of social skills needed for later academic functioning, social and professional. A greater understanding of difficulties of socialization in childhood and adolescence and the development of social phobia in adulthood is needed. In order to analyze the relationship established between the participants experiences of bullying in childhood and adolescence and current symptoms of social anxiety, semi-structured interviews were conducted with social phobic patients in the Anxiety Disorders Program of the Juiz de Fora Municipal Health Secretary. As a result we can highlight the large number of survey participants who had significant experiences of school victimization. Most of the participants was target of nicknames throughout the school year, and also suffered experiences of isolation or exclusion. These experiences mostly occurred in the classroom, and participants did not tell nobody suffered episodes. The reports of harassment in school, humiliation, insecurity and exclusion were also exemplified in situations of family and work.

Estudo dos antecedentes e consequências da fidelidade dos clientes do serviço bancário / Study of the antecedents and consequences of customer loyalty in the banking

Arcélia Leonilde Joaquim 24 February 2011 (has links)
The research deals with the precedents that play a role on customers loyalty and consequences of this loyalty in banking industry. It is specifically directed on public workers that are linked to the bank once they receive their wages through it. Based on descriptive statistics, factor analysis and regression we (I/it) evaluate the loyalty precedents (perceived quality, satisfaction, trust, affective commitment, perceived value and changing costs) and loyalty consequences (intention of repetitive buying, resistance to persuasion, service recommendation, relationship fortification, rewards and privileges). All these variables influence clients loyalty, but satisfaction and perceived value have influenced most. Loyalty had as consequences all the variables showed. However, special highlight goes to repetitive buying intention, recommendation of the service and relationship certification. The research brings an approach that allows companies to reach and keep loyalty for long time. The big limitation of the research resides on the fact that it was done using a sample size below the ideal, considering the population size.

Binon-Davin, Pierre 13 June 2013 (has links)
"Professional" companies, even if they do not have an accurate definition, are those by which the self-employed professional choose to practice in group. The most widespread are the “sociétés civiles professionnelles” (civil professional companies) and the “sociétés d'exercice liberal” (commercial professional companies). In every professional exercise, by means of a social structure, lies the risk to assist to conflicts between some interests, or the occurrence of unexpected circumstances. By the notion of « exiting », we must include several situations which represent intentional or unintentional ways to leave the company. The voluntary withdrawal of the associate is one of many, such as the transfer of his share and also his possible exclusion or even his death. Considering the various possibilities allowing to the associate to leave the structure, it is as well required to examine the necessarily important consequences, both for the associate and the company. Regarding professional companies, the questions of the professional liability, the obligation to the debts and the non-re-establishment clauses are fundamental. Finally fiscal consequences regarding this kind of departure must not be neglected both for the associate and the company. The present study should be useful for the whole professional corporations and more specifically those of the Law, due to the current dissipation of the legal rules.
