A forma confessional nos Diários de Miguel Torga / The confessional form in the Diaries of Miguel Torga

Costa, Lucilene Soares da 21 June 2012 (has links)
The present thesis, The confessional form in the Diaries of Miguel Torga, analyses the authors three initial diaries, written during the years of 1932 and 1946 and published between 1941 and 1946. This work seeks to demonstrate, in the first section, the process by which Miguel Torga became an intimist author in the first half of the last century, through the debates conducted by the presencista movement and the extensive reading of confessional authors. As we demonstrate in the second section, that formative trajectory was fundamental for him to get to elaborate a highly original diary, which yet preserves the grounding of the literary European tradition. In the final section, we make an immanent reading of the Diary so to identify and discuss the successful strategies used by Miguel Torga in order to build a text in which subject, literary form and social life are intensely interwoven.

Distress Tolerance, Experiential Avoidance, and Negative Affect: Implications for Understanding Eating Behavior and BMI

Mullane, Christen Nicole 01 August 2011 (has links)
Distress tolerance and experiential avoidance are important aspects of the coping process. In the current study, both were examined in relation to Body Mass Index and self-reported disturbances in mood and eating behavior. Distress tolerance was measured behaviorally and via self-report to elucidate the manner in which a) the ability to tolerate emotional distress, and b) the ability to persist behaviorally in the presence of stress-inducing stimuli were related to self-reported levels of depression, anxiety, maladaptive eating habits, and bodily concerns. A sample of 73 undergraduate students participated, and height, weight, and waist circumference were measured. Increased experiential avoidance was associated with increased weight status; however, this was true only for the morbidly obese group (n = 1). Increased experiential avoidance and decreased self-efficacy significantly predicted less rewarding eating experiences. Individuals with lower distress tolerance on the DTS reported increased depression, anxiety, and experiential avoidance, and were more likely to indicate eating disturbances and concerns on self-report measures, although distress tolerance generally was unrelated to eating behaviors as indexed on food diaries. These results were not replicated utilizing a behavioral measure of distress tolerance. Future directions for research designed to examine these variables in overweight and obese populations are discussed.

The social blog : an ethnological study of everyday blogs' enticements and conventions

Malén, Alexandra January 2012 (has links)
To many of us blogging is a natural part of our everyday life. Bloggers dedicate hours to writing in blogs, reading blogs, commenting on posts or answering comments on published posts. But what we choose to blog about can differ; this is an important note due to my discovery that what we choose to write about determines what benefits blogging holds to the blogger. This paper discusses the conventions of blogging as well as tries to answer the question of why blogging is so popular: why do we start blogging and why do so many choose to continue? These questions get answered by me analyzing the phenomenon that is blogging. I have studied both blogging as genre and as a kind of performance, as well as I have tried to hold an open dialogue with my informants. Thus I have concluded that blogging is to be considered a tool with many uses. Some are strictly practical and others have a more social value to them. I have also noted that the blogosphere is something constantly evolving. The blogosphere is far from a homogeneous field. I have found out that it can be difficult to examine the subject due to the need to make generalizations and assumptions. My furthermost important find is the conclusion that blogging (in this research) is not to be seen as merely texts, but as social actions. This realization also leads me to observations concerning the boundary between private and public, the media and the people and even a question of democratic values. By doing a limited investigation of a limited phenomenon, I have been able to point out key tendencies in our time.

Vie privée d'un notable nîmois / From the sword to the plume : the Empire general Fornier d’Albe (1769-1834). Private life of a notable from Nîmes

Bernard, Thomas 06 September 2018 (has links)
Gaspard-Hilarion Fornier d’Albe was born in 1769 in a family of protestant aristocrats from the department of the Gard, soon ennobled thanks to their trade activities. He begins his career just before the end of the Ancien Régime after an exemplary education. Distinguishing himself in southern armies during the French Revolution, he’s dismissed as a noble and federalist, then reintegrated to participate to the expedition in Egypt. He’s then assigned to administrative fonctions in general staff, participates to napoleonian campaigns, and crowns his career with the defense of the place of Custrin during 13 months in 1813-1814. Retired when Bourbons return, he lives in Paris as a bourgeois with property incomes, and – conveying the napoleonian legend – becomes the relay of a liberal protestant party traumatised by the Terreur Blanche. General Fornier d’Albe is a lot more interesting because of the private aspects of his life than his military career. He leaves to history three intimate and extremely rich writings : the Egyptian Diary, the Custrin Memorial and the health diary. Telling to his mistress the spleen he feels in the egyptian environment and his sexual relationships in the first one, describing the horror of the siege of Custrin and analyzing the fall of the Empire in the second one, he studies the slow decomposition of his body because of e venereal disease in the health diary. Private writings are a common thread for the biography of this bibliophile and erudite notable who embodies the contradictions of the generation that shaped contemporary France.

The reception of French architecture in the 16th and 17th centuries by French and foreign contemporaries : descriptions and mental images

Chambrier, Pauline 29 November 2010 (has links)
The reception of French architecture in the 16th and 17th centuries by French and foreign contemporaries is unquestionably lacking. Visitors remain unknown, even though they are the spectators of great architectural shows. Their descriptions and mental images of palaces and stately homes, and also of churches, bridges, fortifications, gardens and their like, however, once reassembled enable one, to define the architectural flavour of a period and of a nation. It was thus essential to build up a coprus of texts and images of the 16th and 17th centuries and to analyse them in detail. Handwritten texts, printed documents and graphic representations left behind by antique dealers and geographers as well as travel diaries and newspapers written by inquiring notaries, scholars or even anonymous people were all analysed in an attempt to answer three important questions, namely who are the people behind this reception? In which conditions did their vsits take place? And in their view, what are the most outstanding buildings in France? However self-evident these questions may seem, they have never been tackled. And yet they form the clues to our reading which must no longer be ignored, even more so as they conceal the details of architecture which transpires to be new, unique, and not to be missed.

We will use the intermedial phenomena proposed by Rajewsky (2012) as methodologi cal tools, thinking about intermedial transposition, combination of media and intermedial references. So, it's possible think over what kind of reading instruction is been triggered by the film, from the perspective proposed by Odin (2012): fictivizante or documentarizante. Our interest here is to think how literature transposed into film triggers such statements, relating the use of an open script to the reality of filming and also considering the influences between fiction and documentary related to road movie. We also seek to understand instructions that the film gives to emulate the photo and refer to documentary photography in three black and white sequences and using archival footage in the end credits.

A handmade of self-writing, authorship and intimacy from the writing of personal diaries in the Portuguese class. This is the smaller summary of this dissertation. But the formality of the academic language requires that the abstract be broader. Well. We have then: this dissertation is the understanding of some aspects triggered by a research, developed from the socio-historical perspective (FREITAS, 2003), together with two groups of 8th grade Elementary Public School in the city of Rio Claro, São Paulo State. Considering fifteen diaries made available by the author-students, as well as the field diaries of the teacher-researcher and the post-ones she has been writing along the data comprehension, through the Ginzburg (1996) indicium paradigm, this dissertation seeks to understand the writing of personal diaries as a form of constitution of the subjects involved in the research, based on the authorship marks that they instituted in the personal diary discursive genre. In the sequence, intimacy, thought as friendship, enters as an inherent aspect of the relations established between the subjects in the writing of the personal diaries, in order to perceive it as the space of the constitution of oneself next to the "other", as well as the relevance of the ethical responsibility of the relations of intimacy established in the research with / in the school and, consequently, in / with the Portuguese class. Finally, it brings considerations about "other practices" in the Portuguese class, in the research with / in the school and in the writing of the dissertation. It should also be pointed out that this dissertation is a handmade, textual work that seeks the art, through fictionalization process in the chronic discursive genre, chosen to understand the authorship and intimacy instituted in the personal diaries genre, as well as by knitting, embroidering, finally, weaving a text with the memories from of my grandmother-artisan.

Ciberintimidade: a Escrita de Si na Era Digital / Cyber intimacy: a writing is in the digital age

Fayga Silveira Bedà 22 February 2010 (has links)
This work deals with the attempt to understand a public intimacy that is at the same time paradoxical, mediatic and technological, emerging under the sign of postmodernity, through intensive and extensive practice of writing itself in cyberspace, which have caused the disruption of boundaries between public and private in modernity - called by us cyberintimidade. Accordingly, we intend to map out what are the possible reasons why the post-moderns subjects constitute themselves by means of a self-referencial written, that launches new terms of levels of exposure to each other. The methodology of work was: (i) study of texts concerning the areas of interest, (ii) historical and comparative analysis between the different forms of subjectivity that are composed by means of the self-referential writting and the various ways of thinking about relations between the public and private sectors, (iii) discourse analysis of virtual diaries found on blogs, (iv) qualitative research through interviews semi-structured interviews with the writers of blogs (v) quantitative research, using sample that are probabilistic and not intentional, with students and professors in order to map some pre-understandings about the imaginary cibercultural. We conclude that cyberintimidade not imply a lack of filter in relation to the exposure of intimacy, but only the introduction of a new mindset about the desired levels of the limits of this filter, in view of the secondary gains stemming from this privacy loss. Among which are: the strengthening of ties of sociability, resulting in greater possibility of interactions between blog writers and their readers, the possibility of drawing up new forms of subjectivity, through arrangements arising from a naturaly writing cathartic, who is also a way to listen itself, and, finally, the possibility of lift guards flank against the ruins of oblivion, guarding for themselves and for posterity a reliquary of memories of life in the memory guard of the blog.
