Networks of Entrepreneurs Revisited. Dilemmatic Settings and Dysfunctional Effects during Company Foundation Processes

Fried, Andrea, Knoll, Michael, Duschek, Sigrid 06 August 2006 (has links)
Many entrepreneurial research studies underline implicitly the positive evidence of a connection between the economic success and networks. However, any social relationship which an entrepreneur maintains does not necessarily have positive effects and consequently does not represent a capital to the new established organization. Dysfunctional effects result from the circumstance that the different actors have different, sometimes contrary requirements on networks. The aim of our article is to explore dilemmatic constellations within networks and to enable entrepreneurial founders or consultants to face the related challenges.

Andersson, Alva, Johansson, Olivia January 2020 (has links)
During the last decade there has been a major change in the labour market where the work has become more limitless and the number of entrepreneurs has increased. This study analyses how self-employed female accountant experience their personal identity and professional identity. Central questions are the individual experience of the personal- and professional identity, the connection between them and which importance self-employment has for the perceived personal identity. Previous research indicates that there are several separate studies about self-employed, accountant and identity but not in a combination with each other, which lays the foundation for the study's relevance. The theoretical starting points are Erving Goffman's stigma theory and the dramaturgical perspective as well as concepts about the boundless work and identity. The study is based on a qualitative research method in which five semi-structured interviews have been conducted. The results indicate that there is a connection between the personal identity and the professional identity. Besides, it emerged that the role of self-employed has importance for the perceived personal identity.

Our study will focus on one part of social support, namely emotional support, provided by entrepreneurial parents. While parents intend to positively influence the nascent entrepreneur’s well-being and emotional stability, the exchange of support happens rather simultaneously and unconsciously. Purpose: This thesis aims to create a better understanding of the influence of entrepreneurial parents concerning the support system received by a nascent entrepreneur when in the founding stage. Therefore, creating theoretical consistency in the form of a developed conceptual model, which can be put into the broader context of family business and entrepreneurship. Method: Ontology – Relativism; Epistemology – Social Constructionism; Research Approach – Inductive; Methodology – Exploratory Study; Data Collection – 15 Semi-structured interviews with nascent entrepreneurs and three interviews with entrepreneurial parents; Sampling – Purposive, Convenience and Snowball Sampling; Data Analysis – Grounded Analysis. Conclusion: The influence of entrepreneurial parents affects the support approach of a nascent entrepreneur. Specifically, it contributes to the development of the entrepreneur’s entrepreneurial competence and spirit, which in its turn enhances the entrepreneurial activities connected to the founding of a new business.

Wretman, Emma January 2023 (has links)
An effective learning process for the individual at work is essential for company development. Startups are companies that are in an early stage and are characterized by innovation and a flexible structure. Previous research indicates that these companies opportunities and conditions for learning differ from those of more established companies. The entrepreneur has a key role in startups and their learning correlates with the company's development. The purpose of this study is therefore to investigate learning activities for entrepreneurs in startups to increase the understanding of how their learning takes place. To investigate the purpose, a qualitative method based on semi-structured interviews is used. The empirical material is analyzed with the support of a theoretical framework. The theoretical framework consists of formal and informal learning and the three learning aspects situated, experience-based and collective. Through the study's analysis entrepreneurs learning is identified in the form of work based activities. The results indicate that the entrepreneur's learning largely takes place through activities that primarily focus on the company's survival.

Kvalitetssäkring inom byggbranschen : Entreprenörens egenkontroll i produktion / Quality within the construction industry : The entrepreneur’s self-inspection in production

Carlsson Sandelin, Emma, Mattsson, Maja January 2019 (has links)
Self-inspection is an important part of the construction industry's quality work and is something that has been discussed as a solution to the quality problems of the construction industry. However, studies have criticized how self-inspection is carried out and documented, also pointing out its low credibility. In addition, it is emphasized that there are major shortcomings in both commitment and knowledge about the purpose and execution of self-inspection. With the fourth industrial revolution and its rapid digital development, digital tools have been implemented to facilitate the execution and documentation of self-inspection. With that being said, the question is whether digital tools are the correct solution to increase the selfinspection’s lack of credibility. Therefore, this master thesis aims to provide readers with an increased understanding of the purpose of self-inspection, as well as to provide a comprehensive picture of how the system of self-inspection within the Swedish construction industry is perceived in production. This applies both to the system of self-inspection in general, as well as the digital tool that are implemented for execution and documentation. The work has been carried out as an in-depth literature study with a complementary empirical study in which experiences have been collected from both previous research, studies and participant respondents. The result of the study shows that there is a great variation in the perception of the purpose and requirements of self-inspection, and that there is a widespread lack of both knowledge and motivation regarding the execution and documentation of self-inspection. This has contributed to a general lack of trust in the self-inspection system. The tool that has been implemented for digital execution and documentation of self-inspection has shown beneficial effects but has not been able to address the problems surrounding the variations and shortcomings that have emerged throughout this report. In order to remedy the prevailing quality deficiencies in the construction industry, it is advocated that companies set up clear frameworks for how the work with self-inspection should be carried out within their own operations and that this work method is then implemented correctly. The means of self-inspection needs to be in place before any implementation of digital tools is advantageously possible.
