Pettersson, Gunilla January 2021 (has links)
The village Sandhamn is located on Sandön in the Stockholm archipelago and is known by most as a tourist destination. The name Sandhamn is often used to refer to both the village Sandhamn and the island on which it is located. The purpose of this essay is to explore how Sandhamn is perceived, this through different agents stories. I've explored how they are formed, perceived, affect us and also relate to each other in a constructivistic perspective and how this affects the community. From the dominating stories about Sandhamn three recurring mindscapes were chosen: archipelago paradise, consumption and history. Later on an analysis was made on how these mindscapes are used, collaborates and which consequences they cause. The results of these analyses showed that the mindscapes were used for different purposes, with different dominance and spread. They collaborate with each other which results in an amplified effect. The consequences of the bigger and dominating stories could be that the community is adapted to meet the expectations of the visitors, to an extent where the expectations can't be met. Since tourism is the major source of income, this would affect the community in a negative way."

Turkovic, Ella January 2020 (has links)

Nanono, Lydia January 2022 (has links)
The aim of this study has been to examine eight Afro-Swedish women's lived experiences of perinatal care in Sweden. The material has been produced through qualitative interviews to investigate the extent to which colonial stereotypes continue to affect Afro-Swedish women in perinatal care. The questions to be answered were "What aspects are recurring in the womens stories about perinatal care in Sweden?" and “In what way are stereotypes created and maintained in perinatal care? Most of the women had encountered various forms of malpractice in perinatal care. At some point the women neither felt seen nor heard and the healthcare staff tended to speak condescendingly to them. Stereotypes in perinatal care can be maintained and created through birth stories by Swedish midwives who have practiced in poor countries such as in Africa. Through these birth stories, a perception is created of how black women give birth versus white women.

The door's open, but the ride ain't free : En studie av den stereotypa ensamresenären och hur resande kvinnor förhåller sig till det narrativet / The door's open, but the ride ain't free : A study of the stereotypical lone traveller and how traveling women relate to that narrative

Wester, Johanna January 2021 (has links)
This ethnological bachelor level essay investigates how the travel and film industry portrays women travelling alone, and the possible effect that portrayal has on women who might be prone to do just that. My thesis is that some established truths are hinted at when it comes to both travel advertising and Western popular culture, such as the classical vagabond being a man. Is this the case? If so, how are these “truths” perceived by women who also like to travel? Looking for the answer I have studied the world’s 20 most popular movies portraying lone travellers as well as the advertising for solo travelling from Sweden’s largest travel agencies. Additionally, I have made a poll among over 50 women (in 6 Facebook groups) and interviewed 10 female travellers about their views on the subject. The results of the study show that there seem to be a pattern where both Western movies and the Swedish tourism industry reproduce the image of the male lone traveller much more than the female equivalent. Also, this seems to have various negative effects on women who want to – or could have wanted to – travel the world by themselves.

Digitala begravningar : En etnologisk studie om upplevelsen av att delta i en direktsänd ritual / Digital funerals : An ethnological study of participating in a livestreamed ritual

Andersson, Cornelia January 2021 (has links)
The purpose of this study is to investigate how people act during and experience the feeling of participating in a digital funeral, in order to increase the understanding of how online rituals function. Through interviews with five people who have participated in digital funerals and based on ritual theory and Sara Ahmed’s phenomenological understanding of emotions, I investigate the following questions: How does it feel to participate in the elements of a digital funeral? How do funeral rituals function in a digital funeral? How can participants actively engage in a digital funeral?  The results of the study show that the experience of participating in a digital funeral does not correspond with the participants expectations and conceptions of what a funeral is. It also shows that the digital funeral and the physical funeral is the same ritual but communicated in two different ways which leads to two different experiences. This leads to the participants feeling disoriented and makes the funeral ritual, with the purpose for the participants to part from the deceased, to not fully have the wanted effect.

Skogfeldt, Edith January 2022 (has links)

Douhan, Alva January 2023 (has links)
Behind the Star-Spangled Banners curtain – an ethnological analysis of the musical Hamilton The purpose of this study is to analyze how imagined communities are constructed in the musical Hamilton (2015) and how this affects a Swedish versus an American audience’s view of the American Revolution. Through five-semi structured interviews and one participatory observation from a constructivist point of view and Benedict Andersons theory regarding imagined communities I have investigated the following questions: How is the history and the hero constructed in the musical Hamilton? How does American nationalism differ from Swedish nationalism according to the participants of the study? In what way is the audience affected by the historiography portrayed in the musical Hamilton?    The results of the study show that there is a marked difference in the view a Swedish versus an American audience have regarding Hamilton. Where’s an American audience can feel and experience the history they are presented with; a Swedish audience tends to participate in a passive matter because of the imagined communities between countries in West. It also shows popular cultures impact on the construction of identity and communities, ultimately leading to the participation in an imagined community.

It feels like twisting something right : A study of enabling in queer, art and "something else"

Stork, Malin Zam January 2021 (has links)
This essay explore the enabling in queer and in art. How do art and queer relate to each other? What can enabling look like, and howdoes queer reate to art and art to queer in the form of enabling? My research studies queer people who create art in diffrent ways. With Sara Ahmed´s queer phenomenology (2006) and "orientation" the essay analyzes the interviewees experiences of art and queer and the lifeworlds of these artists. The study shows that art can be a part of or create something new or different for queer bodies to orient themselves from and towards. The study also shows how art challenges the hegemonic notions of reality just as queer does. That the art and the artists own interpretations that this study analyzes ar not inhibited by the produces and constantly reproduced notions of what is possible.
