[en] TEACHING, LEARNING AND RESEARCHING: TEACHER AND LEARNERS WORKING TO UNDERSTAND CLASSROOM INTERACTION. / [pt] ENSINANDO, APRENDENDO E PESQUISANDO: PROFESSORA E ALUNOS TRABALHANDO PELO ENTENDIMENTO DA INTERAÇÃO EM SALA DE AULACLARISSE GUEDES DE SENA 18 July 2008 (has links)
investigação se realizou através de atividades
pedagógicas com potencial exploratório e discussões. O
discurso e dialogismo (Bakhtin, 2003); b) crença e
pensamento reflexivo (Dewey, 1959; 1979); e c)
sistema de crenças (Richards, 1998; Richards & Lockhart,
1994; Barcelos, 2004). O trabalho-para-entendimento buscou
do grupo.
[en] This classroom research, following the principles of
Exploratory Practice (Allwright, 2003), is conceptualized as
work for understanding. It is a collective work of a
teacher-researcher and her students in an English as a
foreign language class, looking for understandings about
classroom interaction. The investigation was developed
through the use of potentially exploitable pedagogic
activities and discussions. The discursive material
generated was analysed with the help of theories that deal
with the characteristics presented in each topic. For the
analysis, the following concepts were used: a) discourse and
dialogism (Bakhtin, 2003); b)beliefs and reflexive thinking
(Dewey, 1959; 1979); and c) belief systems (Richards, 1998;
Richards & Lockhart, 1994; Barcelos, 2004). The work for
understanding intended to reach participants` deeper
understandings about their beliefs, discourses and actions
related to the teaching-learning process, aiming at
the group`s quality of life. The understandings reached by
the teacher-researcher show that the students` discourse
reflects the principles of knowledgetransmission
instruction, whereas their actions are related to the
constructivist approach. It was also noted that the
students` discourse was more compatible with their actions
when it was based on their own experiences as students. The
reflection generated in this research, oriented by the
principles of Exploratory Practice, enhanced the teacher and
her learners` awareness of the complexity of classroom
interaction and of their responsibilities in the
teaching-learning process.

[en] HOW MANY THREADS TO WEAVE A REFLECTION? NARRATIVE AND ARGUMENTATION IN THE LOOM OF INTERACTION / [pt] COM QUANTOS FIOS SE TECE UMA REFLEXÃO? NARRATIVAS E ARGUMENTAÇÕES NO TEAR DA INTERAÇÃOISABEL CRISTINA RANGEL MORAES BEZERRA 31 August 2007 (has links)
A utilização
Considerando o
Finalmente, ressalto ainda neste
trabalho o olhar analítico não apenas à ação discursiva
dos colegas, mas à minha também,
especialmente no tocante à ação de consultora. Acredito
profissional. / [en] According to the Exploratory Practice Principles, for
professional reflection to be
meaningful, it must be deeply related to the puzzling
questions formulated by those
involved in the process. Therefore, this thesis makes its
contribution to the area of EFL
in-service teacher education as it focuses on the process
of co-construction of knowledge
and professional reflection developed with some colleagues
in a language course where I
got involved in an exploratory consultancy activity. Using
the principles of Exploratory
Practice to carry out this inherently discursive
reflection process of making sense of life
in the classroom (and outside of it) allowed us to
prioritize quality of life, everybody´s
involvement and union, and mutual development - even
though it was possible to spot
moments of conflicting meaning negotiation. I emphasize
that the process of working to
understand became hybrid inasmuch as the academic research
side was also present and
involved my colleagues as well. Hence, the discursive
configuration of our reflective
sessions brought about discussion of our teaching and
learning beliefs, identity
construction moments, just to name a few issues, while we
tried to make sense of our own
teaching practice. Discourse is a central issue in this
thesis in the meaning negotiation
processes concerning who we are, the social world where
discursive practices come to be,
particularly, the discursive construction of reflection.
Within the format of our reflective
study sessions, narratives and argumentations were woven
in the loom of interaction via
Reflective Activities with Exploratory Potential to work
for deeper understandings of our
puzzles. Thus, the micro-discursive analysis of the face-
to-face interactions took these
two elements to respond to the questions or puzzles that
led my research-consultant look.
Finally, I also want to highlight that, in this thesis, I
did not only direct my attention to
my colleagues´ discursive action, but also to mine,
especially in the consultant role. I
believe that turning the focus to my discursive action has
added to the construction of a
space in the epistemological field that is devoted to
professional consultant reflection on
his/her own professional practice.

[en] DOING, BEING ACADEMIC SUPERVISION?: EXPLORING THE BACKSTAGE OF A COMMUNITY OF PRACTICE / [pt] AFINAL, O QUE FAZEM AS SUPERVISORAS ACADÊMICAS?: EXPLORANDO OS BASTIDORES DE UMA COMUNIDADE DE PRÁTICAELISA ANDREA VILAS BOAS BORGES 18 October 2007 (has links)
a interação
dentro do contexto profissional no qual estou inserida: a
conceitos advindos
da Sociolingüística Interacional, permitiu-me identificar
no curso desses
problemas, e a construção da identidade do grupo. Ao
promover o envolvimento
diferentes comunidades
de prática (Wenger,1998) dentro da instituição. / [en] This study aims at searching for understandings of the
interaction in the
professional context I belong to: the team of academic
supervisors in an EFL
school. Following the principles of Exploratory Practice
(Allwright, 2001), I
monitored activities in which we engaged in the backstage
of our daily practice,
adopting the role of a practitioner researcher. Data was
generated through
potentially exploitable informal conversations (Azevedo,
2005), field notes, and
audio recordings of scheduled meetings, informal meetings
and the daily
interaction inside the supervisors´ room. Data analysis,
based on concepts of
Interactional Sociolinguistics, allowed me to identify, in
the supervisors´
discourse, how we construct professional knowledge and
credibility, make
decisions and resolve problems and construct our group
identity. By involving the
group in this search for understanding, this study has
added a new dimension to
our daily practice in supervision: an exploratory look at
our experiences of
participation and non-participation in different
communities of practice
(Wenger,1998) inside the school.

[en] WILL YOU BE OUR TEACHER NEXT YEAR? WORKING TO UNDERSTAND THE SENSE OF PLEASURE AND SUCCESS SHARED BY ENGLISH LANGUAGE LEARNERS AND THEIR TEACHER / [pt] VOCÊ VAI SER NOSSA PROFESSORA NO ANO QUE VEM? TRABALHANDO PARA ENTENDER A SENSAÇÃO DE PRAZER E SUCESSO VIVENCIADA POR ALUNOS DE LÍNGUA INGLESA E SUA PROFESSORADENISE MEDEIROS DE AZEVEDO 06 October 2005 (has links)
[pt] Nesta pesquisa interpretativista procuro entender, como
professorapesquisadora,
A análise do
material discursivo gerado
permitiu tematizar minhas crenças, as crenças dos meus
alunos e a congruência
(Prabhu, 1992) e no
conceito de comunidade de prática (Wenger, 1998). Destaco o
social (Allwright,
2002, 2003), o interpessoal (Stevick, 1998, 1999), o afeto
(Arnold, 1999), o
lingüístico (Halliday, 1973) e o pedagógico (Richards &
Rodgers, 1972). Minhas
afeto positivo, a
[en] This ethnographic research resulted from my interest, as an
exploratory
teacher, in searching for deeper understandings of the
sense of pleasure and
success, which I share with a group of learners, about our
EFL classes held in a
private language institute in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
Working within Exploratory
Practice (Allwright, 2001, 2002), my learners and myself
engaged in a variety of
potentially exploitable pedagogic activities to reflect on
our beliefs about the EFL
teaching/learning process and on our classroom lives.
Content analysis of the data
allowed me to organize thematically my teacher beliefs, my
learners´ beliefs and
the convergence between these belief systems.
Theoretically, I support this search
for understanding on the different dimensions of a
classroom (Prabhu, 1992) and
on the concept of communities of practice (Wenger, 1998). I
highlight five aspects
of classroom life: the social (Allwright, 2002, 2003), the
interpersonal (Stevick,
1998, 1999), the affective (Arnold, 1999), the linguistic
(Halliday, 1973) and the
pedagogic (Richards & Rodgers, 1972). As an exploratory
practitioner, I interpret
the sense of pleasure and success I share with my learners
as being related to
affect and to our constant puzzlement about what happens in
our classroom. I
understand that positive affect, motivation, safe classroom
atmosphere, task
negotiation and a reflective attitude towards these aspects
contribute to make
learners responsible for their learning and to create an
atmosphere which enhances
and facilitates learning and living in an exploratory
practice community.

estrangeira. / [en] The purpose of this study is to present the results of an
etnographic research in the area of Applied Linguistics,
which investigates, with the support of Exploratory
Practice (Allwright & Bailey, 1991), issues related to the
use of bilingual dictionaries and pre-reading activities in
the acquisition of unknown vocabulary in a foreign
language. The theoretical background for the analysis was
based on Grabe & Stoller, 2002; Coracini, 1995; Carter &
McCarthy, 1988; Kleiman, 1989 and Kato, 1985. The corpus
includes English as a foreign language lessons in a class
of seven basic level adult students from a big company in
Rio de Janeiro. Four lessons with different reading
activities and proposed by the teacherresearcher were
recorded and trascribed. Questionnaires and interviews were
answered by the students. The results of this research show
that the bilingual dictionary is used and considered, by
the students, in different ways in this context; the pre-
reading activity is considered as an important complement
in the language classroom, activating students´ linguistic
and world knowledge, during the reading process. The
teacher-researcher´s reflection about her pedagogic and
discursive practice in the classroom led her to confirm and
to reformulate some of her beliefs towards reading
activities, as well as to identify other factors that
influence her classes, such as students´ individual
conceptions and their previous experiences in relation to
the foreign language learning process.

[en] EXPLORATORY PRACTICE AS A PHILOSOPHY OF LIFE: A CASE STUDY / [pt] PRÁTICA EXPLORATÓRIA COMO FILOSOFIA DE VIDA: UM ESTUDO DE CASOVANESSA FLORENTINO MARCONDES DOS REIS 08 August 2013 (has links)
[en] Motivated by the various accounts given by teacher Walewska Braga and
her students in the meetings of the Exploratory Practice group, I decided to
deepen my understanding about the main ideas of Exploratory Practice (Allwright
and Hanks, 2009) and about how this teacher manages to use its Principles and
Propositions as guidance for her personal professional life. For that purpose, two
meetings were held: first an interview, transcribed and read by both participants,
and afterwards a conversation about the previous interview, which was also
transcribed. The author of this dissertation participated in classes given by the
teacher, wrote a journal of these classes, and exchanged e-mails with the teacher
during this period. The micro analysis of the selected passages of the interview
was done based on (a) the turn-taking model proposed by Sacks, Schegloff e
Jefferson (1974), (b) the concept of cooperative overlap (Tannen, 2010), and (c)
the analysis of narrative as involvement strategies (Tannen, 1984); and was
complemented with my reflection over excerpts selected from the e-mails and the
journal. The focus of the analysis was my process of gradual understanding and
growing conviction about the viability of the Exploratory Practice, which is a
teaching-learning philosophy that aims to stimulate critical-reflexive participation
by integrating questioning and pedagogic work, through Potentially Exploitable
Pedagogical Activities (PEPAs). In this process, Exploratory Practice integrates
people in this work and in the creation of opportunities to reflect about the
relationships between teacher and students as co-practitioners. With Exploratory
Practice, teachers and students are expected to become increasingly more
independent and reflexive, as they continue to develop linguistically, through
actions that prompt critical thinking, while enabling the teacher to carry out the
curriculum designed by the school or the government. Through an analytical reflection about the identities projected by Walewska Braga, together with the
dynamics of turn-taking, cooperative overlap and the analysis of narratives as
involvement strategies, together with the Principles and Propositions of the
Exploratory Practice, I looked for a better comprehension of Walewska’s
exploratory classroom, and how she incorporated Exploratory Practice in all
aspects of her life in and outside school. My search for a better understanding of
Exploratory Practice as a way of dealing with life, as a philosophy of life, resulted
in this paper, which also turned out to be a Potentially Exploitable Pedagogical Activity.

[en] PSYCHOMETRIC PROPERTIES AND THE LATENT STRUCTURE OF THE PORTUGUESE VERSION OF THE PENN STATE WORRY QUESTIONNAIRE / [pt] PROPRIEDADES PSICOMÉTRICAS E ESTRUTURA LATENTE DA VERSÃO EM PORTUGUÊS DO QUESTIONÁRIO DE PREOCUPAÇÃO DO ESTADO DA PENSILVÂNIACRISTIAN DOS SANTOS CASTILLO 20 August 2007 (has links)
português e avaliar as
propriedades psicométricas e a estrutura latente desta
características do estudo 1.
fatores. Um fator foi
relacionado com a preocupação presente e incorporou todos
os 11 itens escritos na
forma afirmativa. O outro foi associado com a preocupação
ausente e incorporou todos
os 5 itens escritos na forma negativa. No segundo estudo,
PSWQ.
[en] Translate the Penn State Worry Questionnaire (PSWQ) to
Portuguese and
evaluate the psychometric properties and the latent
structure of the translated version in
a large Brazilian college student sample to determine its
psychometric reliability and
validity. A first study employed 871 undergraduate
students from different Universities
of Rio de Janeiro ranging from 17 to 68 years of age. An
exploratory factor analysis
(EFA) was employed to analyze its latent structure of 16
items that composes the scale.
A second study employed 978 college students with the same
characteristics from Study
1. A confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) was used to
investigate eventual factorial
artifacts of the scale previously described in the
literature. Results indicated that PSWQ
had an adequate internal consistency. In the first study,
the EFA yields a two-factor
solution. One factor was related to worry presence and
incorporated all the 11
positive-worded items stated in a non-reversed form. The
other was associated to
worry absence and incorporated all the five negative-
worded items stated in a
reversed form. In a second study, the CFA leads to a three-
factor solution. One factor
incorporated all the PSWQ items whereas the two other
factors were linked to the
reversed and non-reversed items. Correlations coefficients
of these two reversed and
non-reversed factors with the total scores of the PSWQ and
the trait subscale of the
State-Trait Anxiety Inventory suggest that the factor
composed by the five items do not
contribute in a meaningful way to the PSWQ latent
structure. Psychometric evaluation
of the Portuguese version of the PSWQ indicated that the
scale can reliably measure the
presence of the worry construct in a non-clinical sample.
Analysis of its factorial
structure suggested that the worry absence factor might be
a methodological artifact due
to a wording effect of the reversed items.

[en] HERE, AT SCHOOL, IT S LIKE THIS: EXPLORING THE SOCIAL AND EDUCATIONAL CONTEXT / [pt] AQUI NA ESCOLA É ASSIM: EXPLORANDO O CONTEXTO SOCIOEDUCATIVOCRISTIANE MENDONÇA PEREIRA VITORIANO 25 May 2016 (has links)
[en] This dissertation aims to understand a state school attended by students in conflict with the law. From the perspective of a participative methodology, the study focuses on the discourses produced by the teachers and students of this school. The investigation assumes a transdisciplinary approach by bringing together the fields of Interactional Sociolinguistics and Exploratory Practice. Within this framework, the recorded interviews of teachers and students were transcribed and analyzed. Also, the Pedagogical Activities with Exploratory Potential, performed in the 3rd, 5th e 9th classes of this Brazilian school were analyzed. The analytical work aims to understand how the researcher s interaction with the students occurred; to observe the management strategies of face and stigma; to investigate the beliefs present in the teachers narratives about this educational context; and, based on the students puzzles about their school, understand their puzzlement and create intelligibility about this school s quality of life. The bricoleur research methodology adopted allows the use of a combination of theories to interpret the same data from various perspectives. Thus, enabling the recognition of data complexity and fluidity, as well as valuing the multicultural and dynamic character of contemporary society. This investigation made it possible to understand the beliefs of the research participants about their teaching context in a collective, situated and transitory way, highlighting: the mixed encounterbetween those stigmatized and non-stigmatized; the strategies used by the participants of the interactions in order to preserve each other s face and reduce stigma; the unstable character of stigma; the multiplicity of discourses about this place present in the narrative analysis; and the students reflections about the school structure and functioning, their life trajectories, feelings and aspirations.

[en] INDUSTRIAL WASTE MANAGEMENT OF EXPLORATORY MARITIME DRILLING ACTIVITY ON THE COAST OF BAHIA STATE: CASE STUDY OF BLOCK BM-J-2 / [pt] GERENCIAMENTO DE RESÍDUOS INDUSTRIAIS DE ATIVIDADE DE PERFURAÇÃO MARÍTIMA EXPLORATÓRIA NO ESTADO DA BAHIA: ESTUDO DE CASO DO BLOCO BM-J-2THAYS PAES CABRAL AMARO 22 December 2017 (has links)
[en] The analysis and comparison of generation, transportation, treatment and final disposal data of the solid waste, generated during two campaigns (2011 and 2013) of exploratory offshore drilling activity in Block BM-J-2, with and without the use of a waste temporary storage exclusive area for this operation aimed to verify the applicability of these two waste management operational alternatives in regions where the oil and gas exploration and production industry is not consolidated. The compliance with Brazilian legal requirements, with the implementation of Pollution Control Project according to Technical Note CGPEG / DILIC / IBAMA number 01/11 guideline, allowed the comparision of data generated during the two drilling campaigns, even though they have been generated in different moments. The similarity of waste generation profiles of both operational periods and the results of different management strategies adopted, allowed to define the use of the temporary storage area, even if exclusive and built for the operation, as the best management strategy for regions where the EeP industry still not consolidated, with qualitative increase of treatment and disposal methods adopted and quantitative indicators improvement, as reduction of transport events.
