As transformações na reprodução fictícia do capital na agroindústria canavieira paulista: do Proálcool à crise de 2008 / The transformations on sugarcane agroindustry fictitious capital reproduction in São Paulo: from the Proálcool to 2008 crisis

Pitta, Fábio Teixeira 03 March 2016 (has links)
The thesis we present here had as its main purpose the research in the transformation of the critical form of sugarcane agroindustry fictitious reproduction, in São Paulo State, between the Proálcool (1975 1990) and the form that started to be constituted in the nineties but only was stablished in the beginning of the twenty first century. Therefore, which helped us to understand the actual forms of global fictitious reproduction of capitalism and then we compared these interpretations with a research about the present form of sugarcane agroindustry fictitious reproduction in the State of São Paulo, which is characterized by sugar price inflation as a financial asset negotiated in international future markets (as a derivative). That research allowed us to approach the impacts in such sugarcane agroindustry of capital economic crisis of 2007/2008 and to relate this crisis with a discussion about capital immanent crisis. The consequences of the mentioned transformation in the sugarcane agroindustry fictitious reproduction in the State of São Paulo also have been observed with regard to land by characterizing sugarcane production, productivity and area; and to labor, through the discussion of boia-fria conditions of labor and the mechanization of sugarcane harvesting. Our suggestion of capitalist social reproduction crisis because of the historical character of its categories (capital, land and labor), currently in crisis, allowed us to unfold the critique to commodity form of social relation and labor as the fundament of capital as the ultimate purpose of the negative critique we intended for the totality of this text.

Méthodes de domaines fictifs pour les éléments finis, application à la mécanique des structures / Fictitious domain methods for finite element methods, application to structural mechanics

Fabre, Mathieu 10 July 2015 (has links)
This thesis is dedicated to the study of the fictitious domain methods for the finite element methods. These methods, initially designed for the fluid-structure interaction, consist in immersing the real domain in a simply-shaped and a geometrically bigger domain called the fictitious domain. We apply these methods to a unilateral frictionless contact problem in small deformation of two deformable elastics bodies separated by an initial gap and satisfying boundary Dirichlet and Neumann conditions. The first two chapters are devoted to the introduction of these methods and to the unilateral contact problem. The chapter 3 is dedicated to a theoretical study for Dirichlet and contact boundary conditions taken into account with a Nitsche type method. Some theoretical results are presented: the consistency of the discrete method, existence and uniqueness results. To obtain an optimal a priori error estimate, a stabilized fictitious domain method is necessary. These results are numerically validated using Hertz contact in two and three dimensions. The chapter 4 is devoted to the study of a residual-based a posteriori error estimator, without the fictitious domain approach, between an elastic body and rigid obstacle. The numerical study of two tests cases will be performed: a rectangular domain with only a part of the potential zone of contact in effective contact as well as a Hertz contact in two and three dimensions. The chapter 5 is a generalization of the chapter 4 to the fictitious domain approach and the care of to two elastics bodies.

Modélisation et simulation numériques de l'érosion par méthode DDFV / Modelling and numerical simulation of erosion by DDFV method

Lakhlili, Jalal 20 November 2015 (has links)
This study focuses on the numerical modelling of the interfacial erosion occurring at a cohesive soil undergoing an incompressible flow process. The model assumes that the erosion velocity is driven by a fluid shear stress at the water/soil interface. The numerical modelling is based on the eulerian approach: a penalization procedure is used to compute Navier-Stokes equations around soil obstacle, with a fictitious domain method, in order to avoid body- fitted unstructured meshes. The water/soil interface’s evolution is described by a Level Set function coupled to a threshold erosion law.Because we use adaptive mesh refinement, we develop a Discrete Duality Finite Volume scheme (DDFV), which allows non-conforming and non-structured meshes. The penalization method, used to take into account a free velocity in the soil with non-body-fitted mesh, introduces an inaccurate shear stress at the interface. We propose two approaches to compute accurately the erosion velocity of this free boundary problem. The ability of the model to predict the interfacial erosion of soils is confirmed by presenting several simulations that provide better evaluation and comprehension of erosion phenomena.

The academic production regime and the laboring of graduates in the knowledge economy: political economy perspective

Zeng, Siang Unknown Date (has links)
This dissertation tried to examine the interconnection between the transformation of higher education and capitalism from political economy perspective. Based on the critique on capitalism by Marx, the inspection on fictitious commodity by Polanyi and the account of commoditization of knowledge of Jessop, this dissertation argues that, in the so-called knowledge economy, knowledge presents as the form of commodity and capital, and subsequently subsumes the knowledge worker into the exploited relation of production under capitalism. Besides, knowledge is also the key to create “long wave”, and more importantly, the competency of capital, which allows capital to gain surplus profits in the competition. With the development of knowledge economy, university has been transformed as “Academic Production Regime”. The graduates are also been subsumed into the Academic Production Regime. They are unique in this regime because they are “produced commodity of labor power, and also the labor power to produce commodity”. I bring up the concept of “learning by laboring” to examine, “Do the graduates produce surplus value?” and “Do the graduates endure the press from market?” With the case of Taiwan University Union, I asserted that the mixture of laboring and learning, academic subcontracting, and grant of student aid obscured the exploitation to graduates. Graduates now endure the press from market and be ignored by the protection of labor laws. I investigated the controversy of applying graduates employees to labor law, and argue that every labor should be protected by labor law. Finally, I contended that we shall confront the conflict between graduates, faculty and the university, and uniting to against the spread of capitalism

Funny little witches and venerable-looking wizards: a social constructionist study of the portrayal of gender in the Harry Potter series

Rodrigues, Debbie June 02 1900 (has links)
In this study I apply social constructionism as propounded by Vivian Burr (1998) to show that although J. K. Rowling uses stereotypes in the Harry Potter series as a reflection of how gender is constructed across a wide range of societal institutions in contemporary Britain, she created complex characters who on an individual level subvert social constructs and thereby offers her readers alternatives to culturally defined concepts of gender. I explore the all-pervasive social phenomenon of gender and examine how it is constructed in present-day Britain and reflected in the series (bearing in mind that the first book was published in 1997 and the last one in 2007). My analysis of female and male characters in the books, and their interpersonal relationships, shows that Rowling's often tricky portrayal of femininities and masculinities gives us an honest view of teenagers’ lives and contemporary gender relations in an ever-changing, complex world. / English Studies / M. The fortifying and destructive power of love in J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter series

Gani, Safiyyah 03 1900 (has links)
The aim of this study is to explore the importance of love in its various manifestations in the lives of the Harry Potter characters and its power to consequently influence the paths that they eventually choose to walk. Love is investigated as the reason behind the choice between good and evil as well as paradoxically both a fortifying as well as a destructive force. Furthermore, it attempts to examine the importance that love plays in the healthy or dysfunctional development of the characters. Numerous philosophies and theories that span two different eras will form the theoretical framework of this research paper. There will be a constant interplay between the theories and the main text, that is, the seven Harry Potter books that together represent the Harry Potter series. Additionally, the author‟s opinion acquired from invaluable fan interviews will be utilized in order to improve the understanding of the characters motivations. The introduction is a brief explanation of key terms and theories that are essential to the exploration of love in the Harry Potter series. The study comprises five chapters. The first three chapters are concerned with the three main manifestations of love represented in the series, namely; parental love, friendship and romance respectively. Chapter Four focuses on the adaptation of the novels into movies and the subsequent result that this has on the depiction of love. Chapter Five highlights the finding of the study conducted. / English Studies / M.A. (English)

Konstruované jazyky v literatuře / Constructed languages in literature

Jelínek, Jiří January 2018 (has links)
The PhD thesis "Constructed Languages in Literature" focuses on the phenomenon of consciously designed or drafted languages and their usage in literary texts. The first chapter of the thesis offers reflections on the delimitation of constructed languages, especially from the perspective of the mostly illusory opposition of natural and constructed. It also puts forth the problems of glossolalia and encryption or encoding of a text in a natural language, while suggesting these two ways to create a new utterance should be perceived as possible starting points for language creativity, rather than a completely different phenomenon. The subsequent chapters then turn to individual cases and introduce extensive groups of constructed and virtual languages - animal languages, utopian and dystopian languages, sacred and divine languages and constructed and virtual languages in poetry. In those chapters examples of both elaborated and drafted languages appear, so that the imagination characteristic of each group comes out.
