: En diskursanalys av tjejtidningen Fridas insändarsida under 1990-talet / “It’s a lot to keep in mind, but if you do this you will get a flat tummy. Good luck!”

Grip, Sara January 2021 (has links)

Jönsson, Mariela January 2009 (has links)
The overall aim of this study is to examine how Swedish women’s youth- magazines describes women. Through a social constructivist perspective, this essay particularly focuses on how the magazines deals with issues of gender and sexuality and what norms they reproduce. The magazine’s image of the young Swedish woman is a somewhat complex one, although one thing is strikingly clear: she is very different from men. While adjectives as hard, cold and tough are being ascribed to the latter, the woman is often depicted with more “soft” qualities. In some cases she is portrayed as an emotional and goodhearted little princess that faithfully is waiting for “mr. Right” (heterosexuality is a consistent assumption), while in other cases the magazines seem to urge her to take responsibility for both her own and the man’s sexuality and pleasure.

Frida Kahlo, calor & frio - a escrita antropofágica, feminina e performativa do texto como ponto de partida de um experimento de criação e circulação / Frida Kahlo, calor & frio - the cannibalistic writing, feminine voice and performative text as starting points for an experience of creation and circulation

Dias, Viviane Costa 12 November 2015 (has links)
Is it possible a dialogue with myths in a theatrical text that, by its intrinsic characteristics, encourage a certain contemporary and Brazilian scene? How to write a text that provokes a partnership with the staging, promoting poetic operations in artists and in public? This research takes as starting points these major issues to stimulate and systematize the experiment Frida Kahlo- Calor e Frio, from Estelar de Teatro, a company in which I am a playwright and actress. The company has been dedicated since 2006 to the research and creation of play and the new texts. The cannibalistic political attitude bases the production - in artistic and academic interfaces - of this research. In addition to bibliographic search, for the data collecting, the research has identified and systematized experiences in the field of scene that marked an actress-playwright. In particular, the legacy of systematic contact with the pedagogue and theatre director Jurij Alchitz, since 2011. The creation of a text is part of its goals and the text is analyzed, as well as some relationships with the scene and the public, on stage and on the street, in Brazil and other countries. As conclusions, the research reveals dramaturgical attitudes that favored a dialogue with the survey questions: the mythical approach, as a constellation of images around a thematic core, and \"myth\" in its interrelationship with \"poetry\"; the creation of a hybrid structure of text from the traffic between different languages and the text in the perspective of a material of game. The variety of experiences with this text led to the occurrence of performativity of the word and the idea of an author performer. The indicated paths of the investigation can contribute to the search work and the practice of authors as well as actors, directors, performers and educators in theatre.

The melancholy, anxiety and pain of two modernist artists : A study of how the moodsof Nils Dardel and Frida Kahlo influenced their art.

Emelie, Conrad January 2019 (has links)
This thesis will explore and compare two artists who at first meeting seem to have very littlein common more than being two modernist artists. The Swedish artist Nils Dardel and theMexican artist Frida Kahlo, even though the obvious differences — sex and nationality —came to have quite similar fates. Both artists were bisexual, came across death at an early age and as a consequencewould die rather young too, and in life would both struggle with pain and anxiety. The twoartist never met in life even though their similarities, and still after life their fates wouldcontinue on a similar path as they both after death would receive greater recognition. Nils Dardels and Frida Kahlos art is filled with emotions and portray themes that stilltouches people who comes across them today. What is it in their art that touches so manypeople, and do they have similar themes just as the similar aspects in their lives. These themes and two artists will be studied and analysed in this thesis. This thesispresents biographical background and will through a semiotic and comparative methodanalysis a total of six artworks made by the artists. This thesis by these methods will alsoexamine the two artists later receptions and try to explain how they came to be.

The critical geographies of Frida Kahlo

Pankl, Elisabeth Erin January 1900 (has links)
Doctor of Philosophy / Department of Geography / Kevin Blake / Mexican artist and global phenomenon Frida Kahlo (1907-1954) fascinates and inspires people from all walks of life. Rather than simply approaching the life and work of Kahlo from a traditional art historical perspective, this dissertation draws from the interdisciplinary nature of critical human geography to investigate Kahlo. Specifically, this work is informed by two sub-fields of critical human geography—feminist geography and cultural geography. Kahlo’s iconic status as a feminist symbol makes feminist geography an obvious choice while cultural geography provides the dominant methodology of textual analysis. Both sub-fields are drawn together by the use of a poststructuralist theoretical foundation that views no one meaning or interpretation as fixed, but rather posits that meanings and interpretations are fluid and open to a variety of conclusions. The primary research question in this dissertation is, “How are the critical geographies of hybridity, embodiment, and glocalization developed and explored in Frida Kahlo’s art and life?” The question is answered through the geographical exploration of Kahlo’s work, life, and iconic status as a major public figure. I delve into each of the three components of the question (hybridity, embodiment, and glocalization) by connecting geographical concepts and understandings to Kahlo and her work. I extend this exploration by arguing that Kahlo demonstrates how the self both mirrors and constructs critical geographies. This research seeks to expand and deepen the understanding of Kahlo as a significant geographical figure—an artist who was intensely aware of people and place. Additionally, this research draws together diverse threads of geographic inquiry by highlighting the interdisciplinary and humanistic qualities of the discipline. Perhaps most importantly, this dissertation positions Kahlo as a critical geographer—defying the sometimes arbitrary and limited notions imposed on the discipline and its practitioners. I assert that Kahlo’s work and life are inherently a lived expression of geographical ideas that manifest themselves in a physical, mental, and emotional sense. Ultimately, Kahlo constructs an embodied geographic text—creating knowledge and helping people understand identity and place in a different way.

The Rhetoric of Fashion in Latin America

Aragon, Alba F. January 2012 (has links)
This dissertation interrogates the role of fashion at representative junctures in nineteenth- and twentieth-century Latin American literature and culture. It shows how fashion has helped to advance specific visions of cultural identity, historical change, and literary production and consumption. Chapter 1 surveys current understandings of dress, fashion, and related concepts, highlighting this dissertation's questioning of fashion as a historically construed, rhetorically powerful discourse associated with Western modernity. It reflects on the importance of sartorial metaphors in literary theory and proposes that fashion is key to understanding the specificity of Latin American modernity. Chapter 2 surveys current scholarship on fashion in Latin America, reconsidering fashion's role in works by Joaquín Fernández de Lizardi, Andrés Bello, Domingo Sarmiento, José Martí and other seminal nineteenth-century writers. Chapter 3 offers the first study of the women's fashion magazine Elegancias (1911-1914), produced in Paris for Latin American consumption with Rubén Darío as literary editor. It investigates Darío's involvement and analyzes four collaborations presently unpublished in book form, particularly Darío's profile of the Argentine writer Delfina Bunge (whom he called "mademoiselle Verlaine"). It also analyzes Elegancia's inscription of Latin American modernismo within femininity and commodity culture. Chapter 4 shifts to Mexico, following the motif of the empty indigenous dress in works by painter Frida Kahlo and writer Rosario Castellanos spanning the 1930s to the 1970s. Mexico's indigenous textile traditions offer a space against/outside fashion from which to subvert normative femininity, imagine ethnic filiations, and critique post-revolutionary Mexico's forging of a mestizo national identity that incorporates indigenous people as mere icons. Chapter 4 analyzes Alejo Carpentier's major novels and his fashion chronicles in Venezuela's El Nacional from the 1950s. It analyzes the representation of everyday dress as costume within the world as theatre metaphor and Carpentier's Benjaminian sensibility in granting fashion allegorical meanings in relation to historical dialectics and transculturation. Throughout, the analysis observes how fashion exacerbates anxieties about Latin American divergence from metropolitan cultural models while its repertoire of images and discourses is used to fruitfully negotiate gender, race, and class as images of the body politic crystalize into images of the dressed body. / Romance Languages and Literatures
