"Teachers can replace the materials, but the materials cannot replace the teacher" : A qualitative study on access to materials and a equivalance in student Edu Care centers.

Nordstrom, Mathilda, Burehag, Charlie January 2024 (has links)

[en] MEMORIES AND TRAJECTORIES OF STUDENTS OF PEDAGOGY IN THE ESTÁCIO DE SÁ UNIVERSITY / [pt] MEMÓRIAS E TRAJETÓRIAS DE ESTUDANTES DE PEDAGOGIA DA UNIVERSIDADE ESTÁCIO DE SÁ

ADRIANA DE ANDRADE GOMES 20 June 2005 (has links)
[en] This research investigates the memories and trajectories of students of Pedagogy in the Estácio de Sá University. Having twenty semi-structured interviews as starting points, we have tried to reveal the factors that have contributed to their ascent to a higher education, having in mind that most part of the interviewed ones come from popular sections of society. In order to do so, we have worked basically with the concepts of Bordieu of habitus and social capital as well as the notions of heir and inheritance. We have observed that the route taken by students is linked with a multiplicity of factors, that are intertwined in a way that makes it possible for them to advance in their studies. For that reason, it seems impossible to highlight only one. Among these factors is the complex and ambiguous way in which they assume the ways of thinking and acting learned in their families and in social contacts. Reflecting a society and a culture in a process of an accelerated transformation, we can affirm that getting into university is connected with the contradictory process of acquisition of inheritance and the ways of inheriting, which is frequently done partially. To inherit or not the history and fatherly memories is connected, therefore, to the familiar relationships themselves, but they are not reduced to them, since the cultural transformations that happen nowadays contribute to change the ways of thinking, representing and acting in the world. Getting away and recovering the parental histories is how the students build their own trajectories.

Talibanerna som organisation : En studie av strukturen på styret av talibanernas organisation 2009 / The organisation of the Taliban : A study of the structure of the rule of the Taliban organisation 2009

Askervall, Karl January 2012 (has links)
Since the attack on The United States of America September 11 2001 numerous reports hasbeen written about the Taleban to provide information to the forces fighting them. Thepurpose of my thesis is to try to illustrate a structure on the rule of the Taliban organisation2009 and explain why they had this structure on their rule based on religious education. Andby this contribute to the current research about the Taliban. To fulfil this purpose I willanswers the following question in the thesis: What structure did the Taliban have on the ruleof their organisation in 2009 and why did the rule have this structure? This main questionwill be answered through two sub questions: Question 1 – Can the structure of the rule of theTaliban organisation 2009 be described by using a structural theory about organisations?Question 2 – Can the religious education be an explanation to this structure of their rule? With the help of one structural theory about organisations and two sociological theory’sthat concerns why people and groups act the way they do based of their background I will tryto fulfil the purpose of the thesis and describe the structure of the rule of the Talibanorganisation 2009 and explain why the rule had this structure. The thesis uses a qualitative method and divisionaliserad organisation, habitus and thehidden curriculum as theories. In the first analyse that answers to the first question I make acase study on a document that describes rules and regulations for the Taliban’s under MullahOmar using Henry Mintzbergs theory of divisionaliserad organisation. Thereafter to answerthe second question I first analyse the Taliban habitus based on their religious education. Then I continue the analysis using Pierre Bourdieus theory of habitus and Donald Broadysthe hidden curriculum. The result of the two analyses shows that the structure of the rule of the Talibanorganisation 2009 can be described fairly well using the theory of divisionaliseradorganisation. It also shows that the theory of habitus with the support of the hiddencurriculum can give an explanation to why their rule had this structure 2009 based on theindividual’s religious education in southern Afghanistan and Pakistan.

The main purpose of this Thesis is to investigate the linguistic and also social behaviors within (Portuguese ↔ English) professional practice in Translation area, particularly related to the usage of Brazilianisms; and, to provide subsidies for teaching and learning these conducts, based on the use of corpora and on the appliance of the concept of habitus in translators’ education. Therefore, we proceeded two Studies, divided in three steps, which are integrated and which complete themselves in this Dissertation. The first part of our investigation associated epistemological foundations, considering Camargo’s interdisciplinary proposal (2005,2007) and adopting the framework of Descriptive Translation Studies (EVEN-ZOHAR, 1978; TOURY, 1978, 1995), of Corpus-Based Translation Studies (BAKER, 1993, 1995, 1996, 2000), of Corpus Linguistics (BERBER SARDINHA, 2004) and, in part, of Terminology (BARROS, 2004; FAULSTICH, 2004). It also promoted a link among sociological (SIMEONI, 1998; GOUANVIC, 1995, 1999, 2002, 2005, SELA-SHEFFY, 1997, 2000, 2004, 2005a, 2005b; INGHILLERI, 2005a, 2005b) and pedagogical ideas related to habitus (BOURDIEU 1980, 1982; PERRENOUD, 2000, 2001; TARDIF, 2002), discussions about competences (DIAZ FOUCES, 1999; HURTADO ALBIR, 1993, 1995, 1999, 2000, 2005) and corpora for training translators (ALVES, MAGALHÃES, PAGANO, 2000, 2005; TAGNIN, ALVES, 2010; ALVES, 2003; ALVES, MAGALHAES, 2004; FROMM, 2008, 2009; BERBER SARDINHA, 2004, 2010; CAMARGO, 2011a, 2011b; LAVIOSA, 1995, 2008, 2009; ZANETTIN, BERNARDINI, STEWART, 2003). During the second part of this study, we compiled a parallel corpus composed by Darcy Ribeiro’s novel, Maíra (1978), and by its respective translation, performed by Goodland and Colchie (1985). We also used two Social Anthropology of Civilization bilingual glossaries (2012) based on essayistic works written by the same author, so as to compare data and to observe translational options, which possibly represent a set of skills that can be ordered in activities to be adopted in classroom. Methodologically, the program WordSmith Tools provided the resources for collecting terms and for observing sociocultural and terminological aspects which are present in our proposal of experiencing professional behaviors. Therefore, we considered as hypothesis that the reflexive analysis about translational practices related to Brazilianisms, using Corpus Linguistics as technique, allow the development of a Translation Pedagogy proposition based on learning translational habitus. Concerning Goodland and Colchie’s performances, results showed that the translators used: a) loans from Source Language into Target Language; b) normalization; c) literal translations; d) omissions, among other features. As examples of loans, we can mention some terms as “capanga”, “mameluco” and “paçoca”. The results also pointed to the strong variation in the translation of the Brazilianisms, condition that may concede the students of Translation to notice distinctions in meaning among anthropological terms, especially in relation to the universe of Brazilian society, such as in: “miçangas”:beads/ glass beads/beads ornaments/ little beads/ crystal beads. In the third part, we organized the data and theories in an exercise structured for students registered in a Bachelor degree in Letters with professional qualification for Translation in a São Paulo State public university. We offered an extensive assortment of strategies to the students, through glossaries, lists of frequency and keyness, graphics and squares that would compound the foundations of their competences. We also develop a translational work in which the trainees could verify their own choices for Brazilianisms in Ribeiro’s texts as well as understand the main aspects related to the creation of a shared and internalized habitus, discussing different interpretations. We hope this configuration may promote the assimilation of knowledges which are noticed through the statements of a theoretical and methodological support directed to professional procedures based on corpora for Translation. / FAPESP: 2013-10882-0

Bergström, Julia, Särnö, Felicia January 2016 (has links)
Purpose The main purpose of this study was to research the practitioners of physical exercise (PPE) opinions about non-practitioners of physical exercise (NPPE), regarding their health, lifestyle and characteristics. Method To enable inclusion of NPPE to training facilities where PPE attend, knowledge of the PPEs’ opinions about NPPE are needed. NPPE often mention that the opinions of PPE discourage them from start to perform physical exercise at training facilities. Therefore, it was necessary to research if these opinions make an actual barrier for the start of exercise in NPPEs. To contribute this knowledge of opinions this study was a qualitative interview study with semi structured interviews. Result The respondents described health as a state of experienced balance between physical and physiological health. Unhealthiness was described by the opposite; imbalance. The consequences of this described imbalance are mentioned as fatigue, lack in concentration, overweight, high risk in diseases and decreased quality of life. What the respondents mentioned about a NPPE as an individual, were that they only did what's necessary, are unhealthy, lead an unbalanced lifestyle and suffer a higher risk of afflict the consequences mentioned above. Conclusion This study shows that the PPE do have opinions about NPPE. What is shown most clearly is that the respondents are more confident describing unhealthiness or the lifestyle choices associated with an unhealthy lifestyle, rather than describing the characteristics of unhealthy individuals. The study examines that the PPEs’ opinions about NPPE could be an actual barrier for NPPE to start performing physical exercise at training facilities where PPE perform their physical exercise. If these opinions are reflected in the environment of the training facilities, is not defined through this study and would require further research.

Korhonen, Anja, Åberg Zingmark, Ida January 2016 (has links)
Physical inactivity is a growing concern among adolescents, which is the fundamental issue addressed in this study. The purpose of this study was to gain more knowledge about adolescents’ physical activity habits and the factors that influence physical activity. The study was based on a questionnaire consisting of 23 questions. The participants were 149 upper secondary school pupils between 15-19 years old from Östersund who studied both theoretically and practically oriented programs. Based on the World Health Organization [WHO] recommendations on physical activity the adolescents were categorized as active and inactive, and then compared with various background factors that previous research has demonstrated as being important determinants of physical activity. These factors were socioeconomic background, parental influence, sex and ethnicity. The results showed that most active adolescents are also active in sports clubs (p <0.05), has the highest final grade in the subject physical education and health in school year 9 (p <0.05), attends a theoretical program (p <0, 05), has a high educational capital (p <0.05), has a high sporting capital (p <0.05), is more motivated to physical activity (p <0.05) and have more support from their parents (p <0.05). The results was discussed by using the framework suggested by Bourdieu, habitus and capital.

Maktrelationer innanför fängelsemurarna : En fältteoretisk studie av Orange Is the New Black / Power relationships within the prison walls : A field theoretical study of Orange Is the New Black

Dizdarevic, Nurvedina January 2017 (has links)
Important subjects in fictional tv-series are being constructed in different ways, depending on the producers view on the world. By examining power relationships you can find out what role power plays within subjects like hate, race and class. The purpose of this study was to analyze how power relationships operate on the popular cultural tv-show Orange Is the New Black. The seventh episode of season 4 was analyzed, which aired in June 2016. The questions that were asked to the material were: ”How are power relationships constructed within the field of Orange Is the New Black?”, ”In what situations are these power relationships clear?”, and ”Are these situations positive/negative, and if so, in which way?”. These questions were asked to get the whole picture of the power relationships within the episode. In this study the theory of class by Pierre Bourdieu was used, where the concept of field, capital and habitus took a lot of space. Marx definition of class was also discussed in the study, because class is mostly associated with him. Another theory that was discussed was Erving Goffman’s theory about stigma. The purpose of using this theory was to understand what attributes a prisoner can have that could affect how other people view them. In this study, the methodology of Bourdieu was used. The analysis showed that power relationships are being constructed in different ways. When the producer creates situations where the characters are fighting about power and capital, the viewer is able to see how power is operating within important questions. Fights about capital and power were shown in different ways. The conclusion that was made is that power relationships are being constructed in different ways, that these situations are both positive and negative and that they can affect peoples mind due to being a popular cultural tv-show that is seen by many.

Den gåtfulla stenen från Saxholmen : Habitusbegreppet som analytiskt verktyg för förståelsen av orsakssammanhangen kring ovanliga fynd / The enigmatic stone from Saxholmen : Habitus concept as an analytical tool for understanding the causal link between unusual findings

Norlinder, Gabriella January 2019 (has links)
Abstract Norlinder, Gabriella. 2019. My purpose with this qualitative study was to use Bourdieu's concept of Habitus with the associated capital species as an analytical tool, to try to shed light on the value-charged context of human behavior patterns. This in order to, through it, be able to demonstrate a possible explanation for why unusual finds are found in archaeological excavations. The object of my analysis here, in this study, is an engraved Roman stone age engraving stone found at the excavations on the medieval Saxon Castle in the Kristinehamn archipelago. My method has been theoretical, consisting mainly of literature studies and a small number of oral sources. I have delimited myself only to highlight one single artifact; the engraved stone and only a single excavation site; Saxholmen for my study. Only a few examples from other places have been used and then for the purpose of better clarifying my chosen study material. This study is based on three issues that concern the location of the stone, outside its proper context, whether a Habitus perspective can be a possible analytical tool for interpreting unusual findings, and whether Saxholm's Habitus-related functions could reflect a possible explanation for the location of the stone. My conclusions are thus that the stone has probably traveled far and probably changed owners more than once. In view of the residents' prestige-oriented lifestyle and a possible link to Gotland, it may have been the result of trade contacts or looting. I have also come to the conclusion that the Habitus concept is absolutely useful as an analytical tool in this type of study, since it highlights abstract values in human life. In my opinion, the Saxholmen seen from a Habitus- related perspective holds all of the capital species / values that are included in the essay and can therefore demonstrate a number of possible interpretations as to why the stone is included in the finds material from the site. August Sander e Homens do século XX: a realidade construída / August Sander and People of the 20th century: the constructed reality

Rossi, Paulo José 08 March 2010 (has links)
The German photographer August Sander (1876-1964) was the author of one of the most appreciated photographic work from last century, Man in the Twentieth Century, a vast documental photography project, started in the 1920s, basically composed by portraits, organized by the author according to societys kinds of occupations. Some of the portraits are described here in detail in order to find in its visible proprieties, indications related to the aspects of perception which Sander used in his view of the world. The analysis of those images are confronted with the classification criteria adopted by him and articulated with several pieces of information related to the photographic environment from that time, to the German social political context and to the photographers biography. This procedure took us to the researchs central hypothesis: more than representations of social types, as Sander believed, Man in the Twentieth Century is a whole of stereotypes in the sense that his portraits are constructed realities that correspond to a kind of social perception. As for the perception of the real, most of the portraits correspond to the stereotypes that are socially understood. The current study essentially states that Man in the Twentieth Century is the narration of Sanders interpretation about that German historic period. From this point of view, the analysis done not only interprets the art work, but also interprets the circumstanced interpretation from the one who idealized it. Therefore, it is not a study about the narrated facts, but about the way Sander narrated them, his perception of the world enrolled in the interpretation that he does about the real, circumstanced by several social facts.
