Security in smart homes: user actions : A case study of users' opportunities to act and their actions to keep smart home products safe

Eriksson, Anton, Tjernström, Joel January 2020 (has links)
This study explores how smart home users act to keep their smart products safe. The sample was identified in the literature as early adopters. These were studied through a qualitative case study with semi-structured interviews. Data were then analysed with a thematic analysis, which resulted in four themes: Lack of concern, In the hands of the manufacturer, Safety outside the product and Safety measures. The informants had different reasons and motivations for their common lack of concern, their experience of being able to influence product security the measures they could evoke and the measures they actually took. The informants' lack of concern is linked to the theory of the impact of worryon actionand risk perception. The informants' problems in influencing security are supported by other literature. Their hypothetical measures are mainly outside the product. The actions they actually perform on the product are limited to basic security measures such as passwords, etc. Users find it difficult to influence the security of their products, unsafe products can easily fall victim to malicious individuals and influence others in their environment. Deras hypotetiska åtgärder ligger i huvudsak utanför produkten.

Návrh přírodě blízkých opatření na vybraném vodním toku / Proposal of nature-friendly measures on a selected watercourse

Lach, Radek Unknown Date (has links)
The main aim of the diploma thesis was an assessment of the current state of the Svratka watercourse flowing largely through the urban area of the town of Jimramov, especially the adjacent parts of Sedliště and Benátky, and to a lesser extent through the suburban area below the municipality. The given section is 2,6 km long with the beginning in the river kilometer 131,10 and the end in the river kilometer 133,70. The capacity of flows and objels in the given period has been assessed (bridges, weirs, steps, etc.). Calculation water surface profiles have been made by usage of the 1D mathematical model HEC-RAS. Part of the work was to determine the current level of flood protection on the stream. The assessment is based on personal visit and photos taken as rekord. The thesis was complemented with hydroecological monitoring of the stream channel – the HEM analysis 2014. The final phase of the work deals with the conceptual design of a nature-friendly flood control measure to increase the protection of the adjacent area and improve the condition of the watercourse. Progress of individual levels and measures are based on hydrotechnical calculations.

Separatism and cooperation : Democratic participation, asset-building and narrative representations in  The Women’s Cooperative Society Swedish Homes, 1904-1916

Jacobson, Anders January 2021 (has links)
Within the context of economic history, this case study discusses “separatist cooperation” as an organizational and economic strategy for addressing multiple forms of alienation and inequality. Unique in the European cooperative movement at the time, The Women’s Cooperative Society Swedish Homes (Kvinnornas Andelsförening Svenska Hem), active in Stockholm 1905-1916, is a case in point. Using a theoretical framework drawn from social and economic reconstruction as well as critical perspectives inspired by intersectionality, the study analyzes how arguments, practices and choices of Svenska Hem are manifested in terms of three themes/strategies of de-alienation: democratic participation, asset-building and narrative representation. Cutting through each of these themes/strategies, explicit and implicit conceptions of gender, class and group solidarity are critically analyzed. The results show that the separatist strategy in combination with cooperative organizing generated considerable movement energy and capital accumulation e.g. in the face of an organized boycott from competing (male) traders. Further, the women’s cooperative constituted a space for asset-building while negotiating the changing social role of women generally and housewives in particular. The analysis shows that Svenska Hem’s organization and narrative was marked by class bias, while striving to become a cooperative relevant to “women of all classes”, invoking the housewife-as-consumer as a collective with a shared interest.

Högläsning i hemmet och skolan : En studie av föräldrars uppfattningar om högläsningens betydelse för barns läsutveckling / Reading aloud at home and school : A study of parents´ perceptions about the significance of reading aloud for children´s reading development

Andersson, Malin January 2016 (has links)
The purpose of this study is to investigate parental perceptions of the significance of reading aloud for children ́s reading development at home and in school, and the interaction between home and school in the area concerned. The aim is also to examine if the parents ́ socio- cultural background influence their perceptions. The study was conducted in cooperation with a project that took place in the first grade at a public school in Sweden, which aimed to strengthen the cooperation between home and school. The socio-cultural perspective forms the study ́s theoretical basis and its methodological approach is based on phenomenology. The empirical data consist of a survey and qualitative interviews with the intention to get to know the parents ́ own perceptions. As for the informants involved in the study, they have been selected among the parents of the children who are participating in the first year of the project. The study highlights that the parental perspective has largely been lacking previous research. The results of the study indicate that the parents ́ socio-cultural background does not have any significant impact on their perceptions of the significance of reading aloud for children at home and in school. Parents perceive that reading aloud at home and in school and a collaboration between home and school are important for children ́s reading development. The study also finds that the parents see themselves as important actors when it comes to reading aloud situations, which in itself beneficial for the children ́s reading development.

Persson, Hanna, Arvidsson, Therése January 2016 (has links)
During the past years, an increasing amount of unaccompanied children have come to Sweden to apply for asylum. The majority are placed in residential care units. This qualitative study aims to get a deeper understanding of how the work in three residential care units in a medium-large municipality can look and be organized. Data has been collected through interviews with six employees at residential care units; three executives and three staff members. Organizational culture has been used as the main analysis instrument with organizational structure as complement. The findings show that four organizational factors that are important for staff when working with unaccompanied children are unity, meaningfulness, structure and flexibility, and competence. These factors can be viewed as important in developing the establishments. A well-organized establishment is superior in the way that it can lead to the stability that the unaccompanied children need.

To consider oneself not to be nor being able to become Swedish : Four Swedish Somalis’ perception of identity

Jonsson, Albin January 2014 (has links)
The purpose of this thesis is to give an account of how four Swedish Somalis view Swedishness and to examine possible obstacles they identify to be considered as Swedish. I have examined how they look at their identities and how this relates to how they view home and homeland. I show that my informants responds to Swedishness in partially varying ways and that there are also several common ways of reasoning among them. Becoming totally Swedish is something my informants both choose not to be and something they do not feel they have the opportunity to become. How my informants consider themselves is highly dependent not only of others' dealing with them, but also what they suppose others think of them. In order to understand my informants perceived exclusion, I discuss what they feel excluded from and in which situations the exclusion comes into question. The experience of being excluded from Swedishness can in turn create other identities and provide new solidarities.

To stand on your own in a new country. : A qualitative study on how staff at HVB-homes for unaccompanied children, strive to prepare them for a life after placement.

Cederqvist, Fanny, Aberham, Helen January 2016 (has links)
The aim of this study was to examine how staff at homes for care or residence (HVB-homes) work towards helping unaccompanied children to become self-sufficient. The study is based on a qualitative approach and we have done eight semi-structured interviews with staff from different HVB-homes. The study shows how staff in different HVB-homes uses different strategies to create opportunities for the children to integrate into Swedish society as well as the conditions that are necessary for the children to cope on their own. Our results have shown that routines help the unaccompanied children to manage their time efficiently and maintain a functional life with school, health and extra-curricular activities. By executing different tasks on their own such as cooking or doing their own laundry, the children learn to manage on their own. Staff shows the unaccompanied children how Swedish society works as well as the values and norms that exist to aid them in getting accustomed to their new environment. The staff motivates the children to go to school in order for them to acknowledge the beneficial aspects of education and to help develop their language. Trust, security and healthy relations have shown to be a prerequisite to maintain a functional relationship between the unaccompanied children and staff at the HVB-homes. Creating a network for the children by having them join different associations and extra-curricular activities such as soccer has also come to help the children integrate into Swedish society.

Diversity as strength

Lindberg, Eva-Lotte, Musa, Samka January 2017 (has links)
The aim of this study is to create understanding for how employees perceive their skills at HVB in relation to their work with unaccompanied minors. The study is based on a qualitative method and were carried out with nine semi-structured interviews with staff from three different HVB. With the help of Bourdieu’s theoretical frame field, capital, and habitus we analyzed our materials. The study shows us among others that there is a lack of knowledge with the staff within the areas mental health and the pedagogic field. Furthermore, the result showed us that the staff experienced difficulties in how to refute the children’s needs. We find that the staff creates different strategies to cope with the children’s needs. Two prominent strategies emerged in our result. The staff contacted external help and took great support in the strength of the working group.

Efekt sulfidu sodného na vlastnosti modelových hemových senzorových proteinů s globinovou strukturou senzorové domény / Effect of sodium sulfide on the propreties of model globine-coupled heme-containing sensor proteins

Bartošová, Martina January 2014 (has links)
Hydrogen sulfide mediates various physiological functions and along with carbon monoxide and nitric oxide it is an important gaseous signaling molecule. Cellular targets for H2S are proteins, enzymes, transcriptional factors or ion channels. In many cases, the effect of H2S on the regulatory protein is mediated by modifications of its cystein residues. In hemeproteins, the regulation of catalytic activity is induced by formation of the Fe(III)-SH complex or by reduction of the heme iron with subsequent formation of Fe(II)-O2 complex. The effect of Na2S on model sensor heme-containing proteins is presented in this thesis. Protein, isolated from bacterium Anaeromyxobacter sp. strain FW109-5, containing a globine coupled sensor domain and a histidine kinase domain is one of the studied proteins, the second one is protein isolated from bacterium Escherichie coli, containing a globine coupled sensor domain and a diguanylate cyclase domain. The effect of Na2S on both model proteins and their mutants was studied by UV-Vis spectral analysis. Spectra of YddV-HD Y43A were very unique, because thery confirmed formation of a homogenous complex Fe(III)-SH in this protein, whereas only mixtures of varous heme complexes were detected in other tested proteins. Additionally the effect of Na2S on functional domain...

MACT Implementation at an Organic Chemical Manufacturing Facility: Human Health Risk Reduction

Gordon, Keith 05 August 2010 (has links)
Human health risk assessments are used by environmental regulatory agencies to determine risk from Hazardous Air Pollutants (HAPs). In this study, the Human Exposure Model (HEM-3) was used to compare the cancer and non-cancer inhalation health effects of a single organic chemical manufacturing facility in Geismar, Louisiana prior to and after Maximum Achievable Control Technologies (MACT) were implemented. The results indicate significant reductions in both cancer risk and non-cancer hazards. The analysis also indicated that the equivalent cancer risk reduction could have been achieved by addressing MACT in only one production process and one single pollutant (ethylene dichloride) within that process. This demonstrates the value that these risk assessments have at evaluating emissions at the facility level, and how they could be used in the control strategy decision making process.
