Innovation Management in Business-to-Business Software as a Service Startups: : Investigating the Lean Startup Methodology and its Shortcomings around Selecting IdeasBåth, Johan, Köhler, Jakob January 2017 (has links)
Managing innovations is a well studied success factor for companies and organizations. This research focuses on the recently established Lean Startup Methodology (LSM) and the obstacles of implementing it in early- and later-stage business-to-business (B2B) Software as as Service (SaaS) startups. The scarcity of academic research around this framework, in contrast to its popularity, motivated the researchers’ aim to provide a better understanding on how it could be adapted to better fit the needs of these companies.Following an interpretivist paradigm, this qualitative research uses a literature review and semi-structured interviews for its purposes. Interviews were conducted with six individuals at four different early- and late-stage startups. The focus was on understanding the realities of working with innovation management and the different approaches at early and later stage startups. Startups face an abundance of ideas regarding what to do next, a hypothesis confirmed with this study. It is the researchers’ belief that the LSM does not provide sufficient tools for organizations to make an idea selection decision without committing too many resources initially. Lastly, the importance of product ownership for an effective innovation management process was validated. In conclusion, we present the need for an updated Lean Startup Methodology with a dedicated selection step to validate an idea early in the process. This contributes to the theory of innovation management and its practical implementation. The identified gap in academic research around frameworks tailored towards these types of organizations provides a good starting point for future research.

Praktiska tillämpningar av hållbart ledarskap inom en organisation i logistikbranschen : En kvalitativ undersökning av hur hållbart ledarskap används inom en organisation i praktiken / Practical applications of sustainable leadership within an organization in the logistics industry : A qualitative study in how sustainable leadership is used within an organization in practiceZederfeldt, Lovisa, Åkesson, Amanda January 2023 (has links)
In step with new approaches and organizational requirements, an acceptance of responsibility by organizations regarding sustainable development is expected, new ideas arise, are translated and determined within the organizational context in order to maintain sustainability work. As an effect of increased organizational demands, the leadership idea: sustainable leadership has been shaped and developed. Organizations' pursuit of the leadership idea aims at the possibility of increasing quality, the standard and value in the organization and the quality for other stakeholders. The idea has then been interpreted by institutions to be translated into organizations, based on supporting sustainability values at the individual, organizational and social level. This paper has conducted a case study to investigate the translation of sustainable leadership within a logistics company, and what sustainable leadership means for employees and managers. The purpose of the study is to investigate leaders and employees' translation of the leadership idea, within an organization that purports to pursue sustainable leadership. The study is based on a qualitative method with an interpretive approach to create an understanding of the idea of leadership. This is done with the help of the translation perspective which forms the basis of the study's methodological starting point. The end result shows that the organization's translation matches the employees' interpretation of how the leadership idea should be shaped. The implementation of sustainable leadership in practice does not completely match how the employees perceive and interpret the leadership idea and approach to sustainability. In order for the use of resources to reach its full potential, the utilization of training needs to be reviewed. In conclusion, closing the gap between employee perception and the organization's translation of sustainable leadership is critical to the successful implementation of sustainable practices. By prioritizing clear communication, training, employee engagement and a collaborative culture, organizations can ensure employees understand and embrace sustainable leadership, leading to a more sustainable and engaged workforce.

Recovery status and chemosensory cues affecting reproduction of freshwater mussels in the North Fork Holston River downstream of Saltville, VirginiaHenley, William F. 18 September 2008 (has links)
The freshwater mussel fauna of the North Fork Holston River (NFHR) downstream of Saltville, VA declined from at least 24 species, as observed in 1918, to one species in 1974 due to mercury pollution. To determine the degree of recovery of mussels in the NFHR downstream of Saltville, and to provide recommendations for future mussel translocation sites, 19 sites were surveyed using a snorkeling catch-per-unit-effort (CPUE) method. At sites where investigator CPUE values (no./h) equaled or exceeded 5 mussels/h, a CPUE survey was conducted along transect lines. If investigator CPUE values equaled 10 mussels/h, a quadrat survey was conducted along the transects. Nine species of mussels were observed in the NFHR, and reproduction, as indicated by the presence of juveniles, was noted at 5 sites. Recovery of mussels was judged to be occurring downstream of NFHRM 56.4 based on species aggregations and recruitment. The number of mussels collected at sites, random CPUE (no./h), transect CPUE (no./h), and density (no./O.25m2) were generally inversely correlated to total Hg content, but not methyl mercury content, as measured in Corbicula fluminea from proximate sites. Random and transect CPUE (no./h) were found to be poor predictors of site densities (no./O.25m2) and popUlation estimates. Translocation recommendations for the NFHR downstream of Saltville, VA were made based on species aggregations, recruitment, and the distribution of total mercury. / Master of Science

Seventh-Day Adventism and the remnant idea : a critical and analytical study of the Seventh-Day Adventist ecclesiological self understandingHachalinga, Passmore 11 1900 (has links)
Adventists hold various views with regard to their understanding of themselves as a church. They view
themselves as the last remnant church of God today. They also believe that they are a part of the general
Christendom. Adventists acknowledge the presence of sincere Christians in other churches. In this study,
the background to twentieth century Christian ecclesiological self-understanding is examined. The origins
and development of the Seventh-day Adventist ecclesiological self-understanding, especially as it relates to
the remnant idea is examined.
Three different types of the remnant namely historical, faithful and eschatological can be identified.
Biblical images/models used in the development of ecclesiology agree with the biblical understanding and
application of the remnant idea to God's people. The remnant idea is not limited in its application to
organizational entities. Seventh-day Adventists should adopt an open, inclusive and universal view of the
remnant concept. / Theology / Philosophy, Practical & Systematic Theology / Th. M. (Systematic Theology)

The Balanced Scorecard during the early stages of a tech firm : A multiple case study regarding performance management in Swedish tech startupsLlorach, Carlos, Ottosson, Emanuel January 2016 (has links)
The rapid advances in technology and increase of tech investments across all the industries have promoted the emergence of several startups. Unfortunately, not all startups succeed despite of having good initial ideas. One reason to the poor business performance could be a lack of managerial control. Researchers and industry experts believe that performance management could support tech entrepreneurs to monitor and control the drivers that promote growth and their success. However, there is a lack of studies that could support these thoughts about its suitability for tech startups. Therefore, this study gathers empirical findings from Swedish tech startups as well as industry experts to discuss this issue. The findings show that a performance measurement system such as the Balanced Scorecard is a suitable practice for tech entrepreneurs. It also brings some insights about how the performance measurements evolve as the firms mature.
