The relationship between psychosocial health and emotional intelligenceRossouw, Antoinette 30 November 2008 (has links)
The general aim of this study was to research the relationship between psychosocial functioning and emotional intelligence in a sample of 69 employees in different organisational settings in South Africa. Each respondent completed the Personal Multi-Screening Inventory (PMSI) and the Mayer-Salovey-Caruso Emotional Intelligence Test (MSCEIT). The research findings indicated that there are significant relationships between subscales of the PMSI and subscales of the MSCEIT, in that the ability to manage emotions is associated with low levels of Helplessness, Stress and Frustration, and high levels of Expectation, Satisfaction and Achievement, whereas the ability to perceive emotions is associated with low levels of Satisfaction and Achievement. A relatively high level of the ability to perceive emotions is also associated with Helplessness. It is recommended that employee wellness interventions in the workplace be enhanced through emotional intelligence mediation of negative psychosocial functioning. The study is concluded with recommendations for further research. / Industrial and Organisational Psychology / M. A. (Industrial and Organisational Psychology)

Osjuk eller Ofrisk : En kvalitativ studie om hälsofrämjande faktorer inom äldreomsorgen / Unsick or Unhealty : A study on factors affecting absenteeism in elderly careLindberg, Ina, Franck, Therese January 2016 (has links)
The idea for this bachelor thesis was founded by our interest in elderly care and psychiatric illness in the community. This paper addresses absenteeism and the factors that are health promoting in the workplace in elderly care. To obtain representative results, ethnography and semi-structured interviews were selected as research methods. The selection was made after we compered the statistics from different units within elderly care in the municipality. We made observations based on ethnographic methods and semi-structured interviews within the selected unit. We have chosen to introduce two new terms, ”unsick” and ”unhealthy”, because they both explain the grey area between being sick and being healthy and can be used for increasing the understanding of absenteeism in elderly care. The study shows that the most significant health determinants was appreciation of the work group, solidarity, team spirit along with new routines regarding reported sickness. Leadership, that previous research shows is a major contributing part of absenteeism in the workplace, proved in this study, not to be as significant as above mentioned factors.

Physical activity is a determinant of public health. Hence the Swedish sports movement wish to contribute to the development of sporting activities as a way to increase the number of participants and motivate people to stay physically active throughout life. A common issue in elite level sports is that many end their career before reaching their final potential. The purpose of this study was to investigate the parent’s perspective regarding their children’s being after ending their elite effort. A qualitative method was applied and data was collected in five semi-structured interviews. The collected material was analyzed with a manifest content analysis. The result indicated that several of the children, who previously had been a part of an elite investment, had changed their lifestyle from a physically active lifestyle to a freer way of life where it is perceived to be room for spontaneity and playfulness. Everyday life nowadays includes new friends and greater focus on studies or job. Former social context focused around the sports arena are now taking place in other environments. Their previous identification with their sport has been lost and by ending their elite efforts the children's mental health declaimed, however they have later recovered to some extent. The conclusion of this study is that life has changed for the children after ending their elite effort.

A produção do cuidado através de atividades de arte e cultura nos Centros de Atenção Psicossocial CAPS/ adultos do município de São Paulo / Mental healthcare production through artistic and cultural activities in the Psychosocial Health Care Community Services(CAPS) at the city of São Paulo, southeastern Brazil.Galvanese, Ana Tereza Costa 26 November 2010 (has links)
These facilities are targeted to the treatment of adult people undergoing serious mental ilness. This research was developed using part of the data base of the Avaliação dos Centros de Atenção Psicossocial do Município de São Paulo research, carried out from 2007 to 2008. The ethnographic observation reports related to all 126 artistic and cultural activities and a brief report of the health providers about it were analysed through content analysis. The theoretical framework included the concepts of psychosocial rehabilitation, art and culture and occupational therapy perspectives. It was possible to identify three main trends of mental health care. The first, more common trend, consisted of activities conduced strictly inside the CAPS\'s facilities, aiming to improve personal capacities, to stimulate the self knowledge, to establish bonds among the patients, to share life\'s adversities; the focus of this procedures were the patients group process. The second trend included activities outside the facilities, in public spaces and cultural facilities; aiming artistic and cultural creative experiences and social reinsertion; this trend stood out by using both health and art professionals, with different approaches. The third and smaller trend had difficulties to conduce their activities, lacking of cultural repertory, disregarding of patient\'s needs, desires or projects and lack of aesthetic and cultural experiences. The art and culture activities, in general, had low visibility to managers and healthcare teams and were barely considered in the social support network strength. The results suggest a fragmentation of the care provided, both in institutional terms as in individual therapeutic project. To develop a more comprehensive care with the whole development of art and culture activities would depend on: providers have greater access to creative and cultural experiences and evaluation resources; managers and providers teams to acknowledge these activities; the acceptance of the differences; and everybody start to be considered as facts of culture producers.

En kvalitativ studie om upplevda möjligheter och begränsningar med hälsofrämjande öppen förskola : Ett uppdrag från Salutsatsningen i Västerbottens Läns Landsting / Possibilities and limits of health promotion in open pre-school : A comissionresearch from Salutsatsningen in Västerbotten County CouncilÖstlund, Kajsa January 2012 (has links)
The aim of the study was to examine how open pre-school as an arena for health promotion worked. The focus was on the employees’ experiences of the opportunities and limits in their work. The study was a comission from Salutsatsningen in Västerbotten County Council in Sweden. The method was a qualitative approach and five interviews were conducted with employees in open pre-schools in Västerbotten. The interviews were based on the criteria that served as guidelines in the employees’ work. The three main elements (criteria) were psychosocial health, diet and physical activity. The results showed that the employees had adequate procedures for their health promotion work. They experienced opportunities to support parents in their parenting and to promote healthy messages to the visitors in open pre- school. The limits they experienced were primarily in the form of cooking facilities and physical activities. Collaboration with other actors as Child health center, Maternity Care, Social Services and Dental health was also crucial to health promotion work. The conclusion was that the health promotion work in Västerbotten has a solid foundation to strengthen and support children and parents and also to promote healthy messages. But there are some deficiencies in the area of knowledge among staff and lack of clarity from Salut regarding certain criteria.

Faktorer för att upprätthålla psykosocial hälsa : -en studie utifrån socialsekreterares egna upplevelser / Factors to maintain psychosocial health : – a study based on social workers own experiencesGustafsson, Amanda, Lindgren, Pia January 2013 (has links)
Research on psychosocial health in social work isn't developed enough. Instead, there's much more research on psychosocial unhealth. What about social workers, the unhealth is often related to the situation at work and the work environment. The aim of this study was to "during interviews understand the factors which social workers experience as important to maintain their own psychosocial health in the life situations". With hermeneutic method the particular interest was directed on how the participants experienced and explained their psychosocial health on the basis of their life situations, and the results was analyzed with Antonovsky's (1991/2005) perspective directed on health and Sense of Coherence (SOC). In the study, we used a qualitative form of interviews which allowed our participants to answer with their own words and from how they interpreted the questions. We have made interviews with eight social workers in a average municipality in Sweden. The results are shown qualitatively in current text. With our interest in social workers´ psychosocial health, we have understood that it's complicated to make a partition line between the life at work and the private life when it comes to the social workers´ experiences of factors that helps to maintain psychosocial health. Instead, it's about to understand the social worker's psychosocial health as a whole, on the basis of the work as well as the private life. In comparison to research on psychosocial unhealth, our participants said that it's especially the private life, rather than the life at work, that influences and sometimes even controls the psychosocial health in general. Nevertheless, there were plural factors at work which were experienced as especially important to maintain the psychosocial health, for example a "good director", "good colleagues", "ability to let go of the liability for clients" and a working situation where you "work two together" plus "experience and knowledge" from the whole life situations. In private life, and in addition to work, the experiences were about "enriching leisure time", social support from friends and family and the ability to make "reasonable demands and limits for yourself" in private life as well as at work.

NOVOS OLHARES EM TORNO DA PRÁTICA PSICOLÓGICA: O PONTO DE VISTA DE PROFISSIONAIS QUE COMPÕEM AS EQUIPES MULTIPROFISSONAIS DOS CENTROS DE ATENÇÃO PSICOSSOCIAL / NEW LOOKS AROUND THE PSYCHOLOGICAL PRACTICE: THE VIEWPOINT OF PROFESSIONAL TEAMS THAT COMPOSE MULTIPROFISSONAIS CENTERS OF ATTENTION PSYCHOSOCIALCantele, Juliana 19 March 2013 (has links)
Programa de Apoio aos Planos de Reestruturação e Expansão das Universidades Federais / The rouse of the mental health workers launches the Brazilian Psychiatric Reform,
aiming to overcome the model of health care centered in the hospital, leading the suffering
subject to a more humanitarian form of treatment. Thus, the Psychosocial Health Centers
enter into force to restore the bonds among the user, his/her familiy and society, broadening
the possibilities of user embracement and care. The psychologist, together with other
professionals, is inserted in such new model. This study aimed to know the interventions
practiced by psychology, from the perspective of the multiprofessional team of two
Psychosocial Health Centers of a medium-sized city in the interior of Rio Grande do Sul. A
qualitative study was carried out, using semi-directed interviews, together with systematic
observations in the two Psychosocial Health Centers. Content analysis, more specifically
thematic content analysis was used to analyze data. Results are presented in two articles. The
first one is entitled Resignifying Psychological Practice: the perspective of the
multiprofessional team of Psychosocial Health Centers and approaches themes regarding the
psychological practice in the perspective of professionals who took part in the study.
Psychological practice was highlighted as relevant to assistance, being constituted of actions
that include, besides the individual assistance activities, group, collective and interdisciplinary
activities. The psychologist was identified as an integrating and participatory professional in the service, and pointed out as the professional who mediates the link among health
professionals team-family-society. Psychological understanding was mentioned as
differentiated from the other modalities of understanding, being the main tool used by the
psychologist in such professional context. The second article, entitled The Multiprofessional
Team and the interdisciplinary practice: challenges of the new health care model in Mental
Health portrays themes concerning the multiprofessional work in an interdisciplinary and
transdisciplinary perspective. Initially, the professionals pointed out the unpreparedness and
the difficulties lived when the professionals began their activities in a PHC. Regarding such
aspect, they refer the clinical and institutional supervision as one of the devices that helps
overcoming the fragilities faced daily. The professionals emphasized the importance of the
integration of professionals that are part of the multiprofessional teams, of the health care
team meetings, and, at the same time, they mentioned the importance of the specificity of
each professional nucleus, as regards the construction of a wider perspective in relation to the
phenomena. Final considerations emphasize a significant movement of the psychological
practice, evidenced by the overcoming of the basic individual model, that has marked the path
of the professional practice. The resignification of the psychologist s practice in the daily
work of institutions was identified, redefining his/her place within the mental health teams. In
conclusion, the results convey that the psychology professional was not the only one who
needed to resignify his/her practice. The other members of the multiprofessional team also
needed to reorganize their functions regarding such new modality of mental health care that
emerges from the emergence of PHC. Therefore, a movement in the direction of a more
integrated practice, including interdisciplinary actions and supported by an interdisciplinary
perspective, is evidenced.
Grande do Sul.
O primeiro intitulado Ressignificando a prática
grupos, atividades coletivas e interdisciplinares.
O segundo artigo
intitulado A Equipe Multiprofissional e a prática interdisciplinar: desafios do novo modelo

Den livsviktiga kören VaajmoeHerlitz, Elin January 2013 (has links)
My work is about choral singing and to reinforce his ego by singing. But it's not about choral singing in general but a special project that I worked with for many years, Sami choir Vaajmoe-sing for life. This project has two inputs, and the choir is for young people with the same Sami belonging and to create a way for these young people to come together and feel great by singing. The second input has to do with the choir's purpose. It was started because there are so many Sámi youth who feel bad and that there are many who have taken their lives. Vaajmoe want to lift this heavy question and visualize the problems that exist, but do it in a joyful way. I want this essay examine the psychosocial effects of the project Vaajmoe had on both participants and audience and also politically.
