Frihet, jämlikhet, cyborgskap : Drömmen om den mänskligare människan / Freedom, equality, cyborghood : More human than humanMagnuson, Markus Amalthea January 2011 (has links)
This thesis explores the metaphoric cyborg concept, based on the classic essay "A Cyborg Manifesto" by Donna J. Haraway, through Claudia Springer and her analysis of cyborgs in popular culture, and in relation to Judith Butler and queer theory. By extending the cyborg term to include contemporary forms of cyborgship such as our internet lives and personas, I advocate discussion of philosophical matters concering man/machine-compounds today rather than tomorrow. The main purpose is to restore the cyborg concept as a meaningful analytic and philosophic tool for studying man/machine-relations, in a world where other theories concerning nature/culture, man/machine/animal, subject/object, and similar dichotomies, partly lack a technological perspective. Hopefully, this thesis manages to connect three decades of cyborg reflections from several points of view, posing interesting questions about our dealings and feelings towards our dear friends – the machines.

the emotional plagueRaynolds, Nicholas 01 May 2020 (has links)
The artist discusses his Master of Fine Arts thesis exhibition “the emotional plague” held at the Reese Museum in Johnson City, Tennessee from March 2nd through March 27th, 2020 in which he examines a number of literary and invented narrative subjects influenced by science fiction, Surrealism and the current political climate in an attempt to reconcile the social and the personal through the creative act.
Largely improvisational in their conception, the paintings and drawings in this exhibition reflect ideas derived from writers, thinkers and artists including Wilhelm Reich, J.G. Ballard, W.S. Burroughs and Goya, all distilled through the uncertain territory of Raynolds’ personal, internal landscape. He utilizes an amalgam of characters, tropes, and stories as metaphorical expressions of social psychosis and decay.

Triptych of ruderal architectureLokrantz, Erik January 2021 (has links)
The Ruderal Triptych is a narrative, fictional, artistic, research project. It centers itself on questions of ownership as a legal and physical machinery, that works within global extractive economies. I want to question what we are really producing when we produce architecture. For as it stands it might not be the study of space, a lofty exploration of homes and places, but a professional discipline. Tied to the economical organization of a commodity society. Ownership of land, as a means of production. As an organizational principle is the foundation of current nation states, where the plot is registered on the surface of the state and thereafter upon to the global hegemonic economy of speculation. While our profession is disciplined to work within this framework, what are we really doing when we build “sustainably” are we sustaining life? the earth? the industry or the institutions more broadly? When we try to take Bennett, Maccormack or Haraway seriously what space is there in this system for the nonhuman actors of the world? No rat can sign a lease, they have to be spoken for by someone else. So the professional architecture comes into crisis when trying to address real sustainability. The purpose of this project is to try to imagine beyond property as constraint for the ideation of architecture, through a series of explorations, narratives, and Artifacts/drawings/paintings that together make up the triptych.

More than 50 years ago, one of the greatest films of all time was released: 2001: A Space Odyssey which was directed by Stanley Kubrick. This science fiction film tells the beginning of humanity where man struggles to survive nature until he conquest outer space. The general objective of this research is to analyze by theoretical and visual means the representation of technology in the film with the purpose of designing a fashion collection. On the one hand, on the theoretical side, various sources were consulted, such as in-depth studies based on detailed analysis of the film made by filmmakers, critics, and film theorists. These studies respond to a breakdown of the staging of the film from artistic and philosophical perspectives; and of course, social, and cultural. On the other hand, in the visual field, the visual references respond mainly to scenes from the film on the representation of technology, considering the theoretical information collected. Based on the characteristics of the film, it is known to offer a transformative visual experience, making it a valuable source of resources for the design project. / Trabajo de investigación
