An exploration of the existence and development of shared understanding between football dyads

Malone, Michael January 2018 (has links)
The purpose of this programme of research was to investigate the existence and development of shared understanding between football dyads through quantitative and qualitative research methods. Research has considered the importance of shared understanding between team members (Williamson and Cox 2014, Gershgoren et al. 2016) but rarely dyads within teams (i.e. Blickensderfer et al. 2010). Study One attempted to establish the existence of shared understanding between twenty football dyads. Study Two explored the levels of shared understanding displayed by forty-five defensive football dyads in game situations that had either a clear correct course of action or when there was no clear correct course of action. Through an interview-based approach, Study Three investigated potential factors that could contribute to the development of shared understanding between football dyads, based on the suggestions of twelve football players. Through these different methods, the three studies have provided evidence to support the existence and development of shared understanding between football dyads. The main findings of the thesis (a) shared understanding exists between dyads who have experience performing together, (b) when dyads are in a situation where there is a clear and correct option available, they are more likely to choose the same option based on their own individual experience, (c) when dyads are in a situation where there is no clear and correct option available, they are more likely to pick the same option based on their experience performing together, (d) experience performing together, having an efficient relationship with their partner, effective communication methods between one another and the role of the coach facilitated the development of shared understanding between dyads and (e) these factors facilitate an effective shared mental model between dyads.

Factors influencing the use of bicycles for access to swubway stations: case study of line 4 - Yellow of the São Paulo subway.

Leonardo Gonçalves Fecchio 04 December 2018 (has links)
This dissertation presents a case study conducted on line 4 - Yellow of the São Paulo subway. The objective is to analyse factors influencing the use of bicycles as the access mode to subway stations. 500 interviews were conducted on metro platforms, as well as public bicycle racks and shared bicycle stations in the proximity of line 4 stations. The questionnaire includes questions about the intercepted trip and other travel habits, user socioeconomic characteristics, and assessment of user concordance with 12 statements representing factors that influence positively or negatively the use of bicycles. A descriptive analysis allowed a preliminary assessment of differences between those accessing stations by bicycle and by other modes. Simple correspondence analysis indicated statistically significant differences regarding travel behavior and habits between bike users and users of other modes for station access. Finally, a principal component analysis was conducted with answers to the 12 statements. Three principal components were extracted: a first component including aspects favouring bicycle use (time and money savings, the presence of cycling infrastructure, etc.); a second component representing environmental factors (climate and topography); and a third component representing aspects of personal security and traffic safety. An index of affinity with bicycling was proposed, based on the value of the three components for each individual in the sample, allowing the identification of three groups: Cyclists, Potential Cyclists and Non-cyclists. A comparative analysis of the groups revealed the characteristics that distinguish them, representing important factors in the decision to use bicycles. The understanding of these factors and their influence on users is an important tool to guide policy formulation aiming to increase the use of bicycle for modal integration with the subway.

Rosa, Prisciane Raupp da January 2017 (has links)
Shared economy is an economic system based on the share of underutilized goods free of charge or for a fee. With the advent of the internet, the digital platforms based on this concept have been developed, emerging the need of understanding its relationship with two-side markets. This expansion has reached various sectors of the economy, as well as created new demand, such as the Uber platform, which ,however, has generated disturbances in the taxi sector, traditionally regulated with its worldwide recognised inefficiencies. Thus, the goal of this dissertation is to understand what the digital platforms are and to analyse the specific case of Uber company, showing the main factors which allowed this type of business to arise; where we are, defining what Uber effectively is and the services provided by it, addressing the welfare gains provided (consumer surplus) and regulatory problems faced; and where we go, prospecting a path for the shared economy regarding the digital platforms in two-side markets.

Oliveira, Fabiano Alves de January 2017 (has links)
The present work analyzed the application of the concepts of Creating Shared Value (CSV) by executives of the area of paper packaging in Brazil as a way to improve the competitive advantage of companies in the sector. The concept of Shared Value was devised by Porter and Kramer in 2011 through the Harvard Business Review article called "The Great Idea How to Fix Capitalism." According to Porter and Kramer, the concept of shared value redefines the boundaries of capitalism by better connecting the company's success with the progress of society, this concept opens up many ways to meet the new needs of this society, such as gaining efficiency, creating differentiation and expand markets, making it more competitive. According to the authors, if companies use the same tools that guide their choices in the core business to analyze socio-environmental opportunities, it is no longer a cost or philanthropy to become a source of opportunity and competitive advantage (PORTER, KRAMMER, 2011). In order to carry out the work, a review of available literature on the CSV topic on strategy and competitiveness was carried out, which allowed a better understanding of the concepts for a company to actually put into practice. After reviewing the literature, secondary sources were searched, using data collected through internal and external materials available in Brazil and in the world, such as: magazine publications, videos, presentations in forums, articles, dissertations and academic theses, publications on websites and related news. The secondary data helped to underpin the CSV concept addressed in the literary review, through examples of world-class companies that are already implementing and developing CSV projects and initiatives. Based on data collected through in-depth interviews with executives and sustainability experts, it was verified that the theme is poorly disseminated and also confused with the concepts of sustainability, but indicate the propensity to CSV practices by companies in the sector.

Quintana, Tatiana Rodrigues January 2017 (has links)
The concept of productivity is a term used on a large scale in the industrial sector, but in the service sector productivity is still somewhat blurred by its intangibility and heterogeneity inherent in its nature. With the difficulty found for the most adequate measurement of productivity, considering the influence of the customer in the service process, the need arose for the present study. Initially, a great demand was made in the national and international literature on the topic of productivity and quality in the service sector, with few authors indicating methods of measuring productivity in this sector, as well as authors who used the quality perceived by the customer as an important factor in this measurement. The studies found stick to the literature or treat quality and productivity separately. This gap in the context of Shared Services Center (SSC) is even greater, and studies with methodologies that incorporate quality and productivity are not found, a relevant issue since these centers are increasingly used by companies to provide support services After the theoretical review on the subject, we started with the proposal of a method of measuring productivity and quality perceived in SSC, which considers the analysis and separation of the service process in front office and back office activities, in order to better define performance metrics. The method makes use of tools such as Service System Architecture (SSA) and service blueprinting for process mapping and perceived quality assessment tools for the evaluation of customer perception adjustment of productivity metrics. To test the model, the same was applied to two companies in the service sector. Both companies chosen for the study had different methods of measurement of productivity, but they have in common a SSC sector, which provides financial services for both companies. For comparison, this study was carried out in a service cell common to companies: cell of logistics services. The results of the application were compared identifying differences and similarities in the cases analyzed.

Supporting Multi-User Interaction in Co-Located and Remote Augmented Reality by Improving Reference Performance and Decreasing Physical Interference

Oda, Ohan January 2016 (has links)
One of the most fundamental components of our daily lives is social interaction, ranging from simple activities, such as purchasing a donut in a bakery on the way to work, to complex ones, such as instructing a remote colleague how to repair a broken automobile. While we interact with others, various challenges may arise, such as miscommunication or physical interference. In a bakery, a clerk may misunderstand the donut at which a customer was pointing due to the uncertainty of their finger direction. In a repair task, a technician may remove the wrong bolt and accidentally hit another user while replacing broken parts due to unclear instructions and lack of attention while communicating with a remote advisor. This dissertation explores techniques for supporting multi-user 3D interaction in augmented reality in a way that addresses these challenges. Augmented Reality (AR) refers to interactively overlaying geometrically registered virtual media on the real world. In particular, we address how an AR system can use overlaid graphics to assist users in referencing local objects accurately and remote objects efficiently, and prevent co-located users from physically interfering with each other. My thesis is that our techniques can provide more accurate referencing for co-located and efficient referencing for remote users and lessen interference among users. First, we present and evaluate an AR referencing technique for shared environments that is designed to improve the accuracy with which one user (the indicator) can point out a real physical object to another user (the recipient). Our technique is intended for use in otherwise unmodeled environments in which objects in the environment, and the hand of the indicator, are interactively observed by a depth camera, and both users wear tracked see-through displays. This technique allows the indicator to bring a copy of a portion of the physical environment closer and indicate a selection in the copy. At the same time, the recipient gets to see the indicator's live interaction represented virtually in another copy that is brought closer to the recipient, and is also shown the mapping between their copy and the actual portion of the physical environment. A formal user study confirms that our technique performs significantly more accurately than comparison techniques in situations in which the participating users have sufficiently different views of the scene. Second, we extend the idea of using a copy (virtual replica) of physical object to help a remote expert assist a local user in performing a task in the local user's environment. We develop an approach that uses Virtual Reality (VR) or AR for the remote expert, and AR for the local user. It allows the expert to create and manipulate virtual replicas of physical objects in the local environment to refer to parts of those physical objects and to indicate actions on them. The expert demonstrates actions in 3D by manipulating virtual replicas, supported by constraints and annotations. We performed a user study of a 6DOF alignment task, a key operation in many physical task domains. We compared our approach with another 3D approach that also uses virtual replicas, in which the remote expert identifies corresponding pairs of points to align on a pair of objects, and a 2D approach in which the expert uses a 2D tablet-based drawing system similar to sketching systems developed for prior work by others on remote assistance. The study shows the 3D demonstration approach to be faster than the others. Third, we present an interference avoidance technique (Redirected Motion) intended to lessen the chance of physical interference among users with tracked hand-held displays, while minimizing their awareness that the technique is being applied. This interaction technique warps virtual space by shifting the virtual location of a user's hand-held display. We conducted a formal user study to evaluate Redirected Motion against other approaches that either modify what a user sees or hears, or restrict the interaction capabilities users have. Our study was performed using a game we developed, in which two players moved their hand-held displays rapidly in the space around a shared gameboard. Our analysis showed that Redirected Motion effectively and imperceptibly kept players further apart physically than the other techniques. These interaction techniques were implemented using an extensible programming framework we developed for supporting a broad range of multi-user immersive AR applications. This framework, Goblin XNA, integrates a 3D scene graph with support for 6DOF tracking, rigid body physics simulation, networking, shaders, particle systems, and 2D user interface primitives. In summary, we showed that our referencing approaches can enhance multi-user AR by improving accuracy for co-located users and increasing efficiency for remote users. In addition, we demonstrated that our interference-avoidance approach can lessen the chance of unwanted physical interference between co-located users, without their being aware of its use.

A água como premissa positiva nas relações internacionais: a lógica da cooperação que contraria a hipótese de conflito violento / Water as a positive premise in international relations: the logic of cooperation which contradicts the hypothesis of violent conflict

Castro, Douglas de 11 April 2014 (has links)
Com isso, conclui-se a relevância da interdependência física como condição minimamente suficiente para conduzir os Estados ribeirinhos a processos de cooperação, embora não se exclua a possibilidade de conflitos violentos / Research agendas in international relations that are devoted to shared water resources between states apply economic logic that the more scarce the resource the more will be the competition for it. This logic makes research agendas to conclude that water scarcity will lead states to a competitive environment which the inevitable end is the violent conflict. However, this trend is not confirmed in reality due to the unprecedented proliferation of international treaties on shared water and institutional mechanisms for joint management in many river basins around the world. This study inferred the existence of a causal mechanism based on existing physical interdependence among states in the watershed and tested it empirically in the cases of Jordan and Colorado/Grande river basins by the method of process tracing. Empirical tests have identified the great relevance of physical interdependence among states that share the water to the point of starting more or less institutionalized cooperation processes that generated a more politically stable environment. Therefore, concludes the relevance of physical interdependence as a minimal sufficient condition that drive the riparian states to cooperation processes, although it does not exclude the possibility of violent conflicts

Análise e perspectivas sobre a gestão compartilhada em museus: um olhar a partir do Museu Nacional do Mar - Embarcações Brasileiras / Analysis and outlook of the shared management in museums: an inspection from the stand point of the Sea National Museum - Brazilian Vessels

Cittadin, Renata 28 September 2018 (has links)
The present research, presented in the scope of the inter-unit Post Graduation Program in Museology, University of São Paulo (PPGMus/USP), studies the shared management in museological institutions. The observation site for the research process is the National Sea Museum - Brazilian Vessel Center (MNM-EB), located in South San Francisco, a city in the northern coast of the Santa Catarina State. The motivation for having chosen this particular museum as a case study, a laboratory for the development of this research, is that this is the first shared management experience of a museological institution linked to the state public administration structure in the Santa Catarina State government. Also, this museum\'s operation configuration is worthy of study, under the museological point of view. The shared management study, object of the present research, allows the analysis of the model operationalization under the Museology point of view, consequently broadening the repertoire about the discussions and productions about the museological management, and identifying improvement possibilities, as well as potential changes in the conducts for the adoption of this model to the museological phenomena.
