A escrita das cartas de Freud a Fliess e a invenção da psicanalise / The writing of Freud's letters to Fliess and the invention of psychoanalysis

É esse o reconhecimento que nosso trabalho procura expressar / Abstract: Freud (1856-1939), the inventor of psychoanalysis, was a prolific letter-writer, having written approximately 20,000 letters during his lifetime. But there is a special group of missives by Freud that have a special place in his life and in the history of psychoanalysis, namely, those he wrote to Wilhelm Fliess (1858-1928), between 1887 and 1900. In this thesis I elaborate on the idea that the writing of the letters to Fliess (Masson 1986) is part of the very invention of psychoanalysis. Lacan's aphorism "the unconscious is structured like a language" leads us to consider the division of the subject Freud and to articulate this division to his desire in the theorization of psychoanalysis. It can be said that the truth Freud incessantly sought, led to his invention of psychoanalysis. During the laborious and solitary quest intrinsic to an object that cannot be grasped, Fliess concurrently occupied, on the one hand, the place of the similar other that takes in and encourages and, on the other hand, the other who represents scientific knowledge. In the loneliness of unprecedented his unprecedented task, Freud himself went so far as to compare himself to Einstein, who held Newton and so many others as masters. In his task of inventing unprecedented knowledge, Freud had to suppose the existence of scientific knowledge somewhere. Fliess, his dear friend, became a partner to this navigation into uncharted waters, waters never before named or described. Fliess, in his fascinating certainty about the vital causes and processes of nature, sustained for Freud the place of scientific truth, and this allowed Freud, divided, to articulate the truth of the subject. The study of Freud's letters to Fliess, which underlines the condition of writing, is important for what can be gleaned from its power of transmission. As Erik Porge (1998) insists, the letters to Fliess should not be taken as historical curiosities or documents by a subjectivity. The writing of these letters radically implicated Freud in his new field. From this point of view, writing, articulated with the theorization of the enigma of the neuroses, was Freud's fundamental means of expressing himself, and the task was carried out thanks to the grinder of the signifier, whose teeth are letters, in Pommier's words (2004). The writing of the letters to Fliess has the power to transmit the essence of the structure of the invention of Freud's theoretical production of psychoanalysis: Freud's own letter. The intimate friendship between these two men, whose paths diverged only much later, produced a bond that is the discourse of psychoanalysis. The present thesis attempts to express this recognition / Doutorado / Doutor em Linguística

O trauma na obra de Freud: ramificações conceituais e consequências clínicas / The trauma in Freuds work: conceptual ramifications and clinical consequences

Marina de Andrade Vahle 17 August 2012 (has links)
Our proposal is to perform a theoretical investigation regarding the concept of trauma in Freuds work, as well as the set of problems it responds to. We aimed to research if the theory of trauma would have in fact disappeared in the period between the abandon of the seduction theory and the constructs of 1920, as defended by some authors in the psychoanalytic literature. Our hypothesis is that the notion of trauma would have continued to sustain the Freudian theory of psychic suffering, not only through sporadic appearances of this concept during this period, but also, implicitly, by means of the set of problems related to it as the etiology of neurosis and of the major clinical cases of Freud: Dora, Rat Man and Wolf Man. Thus, primarily we searched for the notion of trauma and its ramifications throughout the wok and, afterwards, we performed a study of these three clinical cases, looking up for possible traumatic configurations in the history of their protagonists. We came to the understanding that Freud does not always treat the same kind of trauma throughout his writings: the term remains, but with different meanings. There would be, therefore, implicit subtypes of trauma in the Freudian discourse trauma by rupture, trauma as lack of mediation between fantasy and reality and, yet, clues to think of a trauma as a narcissistic fault. From these subtypes, we approached the clinical consequences of the reinterpretation of this concept, from the differential diagnosis viewpoint. Next, we pointed out how the eminently economic aspect that permeates the category of trauma influenced in Freuds view about the devices used by the analyst in the clinic. Following the ramifications, as well as the clinical scope of the notion of trauma, consists in a task that may offer us theoretical tools for the understanding of the types of traumatic constellations underlying the intolerable suffering of those who look for the psychoanalytic clinic

A compulsão a linguagem na psicanalise : teoria lacaniana e psicanalise pragmatica

Almeida, João José Rodrigues Lima de, 1960- 07 August 2004 (has links)
Orientador: Osmy Faria Gabbi Junior / Tese (doutorado) - Universidade Estadual de Campinas, Instituto de Filosofia e Ciencias Humanas / Made available in DSpace on 2018-08-03T23:36:02Z (GMT). This work is a critical exposition of conceptuallinks manifestedby the Lacanian theory and the pragmatic psychoanalysis, the latter circumscribed to texts of both Marcia Cavell and Jurandir Freire Costa. It is intended to get a panoramic presentation from the conceptual composition and ftom the meaning that the words acquire in the whole of each theoreticalpractice, without overlooking the exegeticalinvestigation. The two types of psychoanalytical theory are called "linguistic psychoanalysis", as they appealled to certain conceptions of language as a form of resolution of metaphysical and clinical problems inherited from Freudian theory. Nonetheless, their theoretical behaviour are considered as compuJsive, inasmuch as their theoreticalpractice blindly obey to a set of technicsand procedures incorporated to the action of cleaning the theory ftom conceptualimpurities. Each one adoptedits own conceptionoflanguage. Lacan, as an alternative to the referential conception of language presupposed by Freud, employed an idealist conception, and the pragmatic sychoanalysisresorted to a behavioral point of view, to accomplish their respective tasks. The work consists in questioning Lacan's substantialization of language, and the mentalism and mecanicism presented in the pragmatic psychoanalysiscase. Nothing seems to indicate that clinics would need such resorts, nor that those theories would not introduced new metaphysical problems / Doutorado / Doutor em Filosofia

The Fear of Mrs. Bates : The Use of Psychoanalytical Aspects, Anticipation and Retrospection in Robert Bloch’s Psycho

Spolander, Rebecca January 2018 (has links)
This essay focuses on psychoanalytical notions in Robert Bloch’s novel Psycho. The theoretical framework is based on Sigmund Freud’s theory of psychoanalysis. Slavoj Žižek’s idea that the house serves as a symbol of Freud’s concept of the Super-Ego, Ego and Id is presented and further developed. Moreover, it is exemplified how the idea of repression as a defense mechanism can be traced in the novel. It is then explained that repression is used as a tool for making the reader feel sympathy for Norman Bates. In addition, Wolfgang Iser’s reception theory is used to explain how Bloch uses gaps and pre-intentions in order to create anticipation and retrospection in the reader to produce suspense and horror. The intention is to prove that the attention to the psychological issues is what makes the monster of the novel more sympathetic and recognizable to us as readers. Thus, the result is that we position ourselves closer to the monster, which leaves us wondering if we could, due to our shared psychology, be monsters as well.

The reception of political romanticism in the Weimar Republic

Roques, Christian 25 November 2011 (has links)
This PhD thesis offers an archeological analysis of the discourses on « political romanticism » in the Weimar Republic. It shall endeavour to analyze the discursive patterns which revolved around the « romantic » paradigm between 1918 and 1933 by resorting to a concept of « reception » which minimizes the importance of the « author ». By studying the works of thinkers who explicitly refer to « political romanticism » (Sigmund Rubinstein, Carl Schmitt, Hans Freyer, Othmar Spann, Karl Mannheim, Wilhelm von Schramm, Paul Tillich) and the social networks they belong to one may assert the existence of a romantic « sensibility » which is at the core of the intellectual universe of the Weimar Republic, transcends political differences traditionally considered as essential (left/right, conservative/progressive, nationalist/universalist etc.) and is fundamentally opposed to the materialist individualism of capitalist liberalism.

Ich weiss nicht was soll es bedeuten : Uncanny Space in the Poetry of Sylvia Plath

Stenskär, Eva January 2020 (has links)
Sylvia Plath’s poetry continues to receive considerable attention from a variety of groups and has been the target for such diverse critical approaches as Feminism, Ecocriticism, and Marxism, to name but a few. My paper focuses on a less investigated area of her poems: Space, and more specifically uncanny space in her later poetry. Here, I take a closer look at seven of her poems using as my preferred methods deconstruction and psychoanalytical theory.

Futile Endeavors

Nordström, Malin January 2022 (has links)
I have come to a point where I feel a need to understand more about my own work methods and my motivations. Departing from a process diary written during my master studies, I take a closer look at my own artistic process — the questions which inform my work, the questions that arise in it, and how my work is an attempt to understand those questions. Wherein lies the urgency for me to work with art in the way that I do?  This is an essay about a search, about trying to make sense of something, about not knowing. It is also an exploration of how my work in the non-verbal domain transforms my not knowing, how working with art is a tool for thinking and understanding.

Thick Love : A Psychoanalytical Study of Mother-Daughter Relationships in Toni Morrison’s Beloved

Hashim, Khuteibe January 2021 (has links)
This study employs psychoanalytical theories to explore how the conscious, unconscious, and subconscious workings of the mind, combined with a search for identity, are presented and dealt with in Toni Morrison’s novel Beloved (1987). It is done through a close reading and in-depth textual analysis of thematic concerns raised in the work. Previous research has primarily relied on some specific aspects of psychoanalytic theory and applied it to Beloved. The theoretical framework provides a rationale for this paper to research two events in particular that highlight the mother-daughter relationships between Sethe and her Ma’am and between Sethe and her daughter Beloved. These relationships are consequently analyzed by employing psychoanalytical concepts offered by Freud, Lacan and Kristeva. By utilizing psychoanalytical criticism, the characters’ conscious and unconscious motives and feelings are revealed and explained, as well as the meanings and the undercurrents that lie underneath the text’s consciousness. The results suggest that Sethe murdered her daughter Beloved to keep her from becoming a slave and enduring the dreadful and traumatic consequences of slavery, which was similar to what Sethe went through when she was abandoned by her Ma'am. Sethe’s childhood psychological principles and trauma shaped her identity as a mother as she witnessed her mother abandoning her at a young age by being tortured and killed. The events around Sethe’s mother’s death and the fact that Sethe never identifies her mother’s dead body, scar Sethe for life and instill in Sethe a sense of “lack” and an abnormal feeling of maternal love where she is ready to kill her children to save them from the horror of slavery.
