This diploma thesis deals with mestizaje and illegitimacy matters within Chile and Latin America. In consequence, it is focusing on reflexion of these phenomenons in literature, principally in essays. In the introduction to the thesis, I describe unique and peculiar features of Chilean identity and there also appears a definition of the chilenidad conception. The main attention is concentrated on el huacho figure as it symbolizes Chilean illegitimacy and mestizaje. The main aim of this thesis was to find out similar and dissimilar attributes between the huacho and Chilean society. In addition, patrial aim was to decide whether the huacho belongs either to location or to community. Final part is dedicated to comparison of huacho and pachuco figures and, it also confronts Chilean essays with Octavio Paz essay works. Powered by TCPDF (www.tcpdf.org)

This research is about the female body´s meanings in the Sonia Coutinho´s tales. The goal has
been to investigate from the being female, the sexual behaviour, the ideal of beauty, and the
getting older; the role of the female body in the baiana authoress´s way of taling. To understand
the relations and meanings set up by the speech components which took part of the research, an
interpretative approach of the tales has been pointed out. The presupposed points of theory and
methodology of Sociology of body and of Female criticism have provided the basis to the social
context in which the questions of body act like an analysing component of the means of control
that occurs in the familiar, religious, educational speech besides midia one´s. Such ways of
speech have been useful to verify like the speech of veneration to body and the idea of eternal
youth take part of the speech of the characters of tales. We can see that the senses of the female
body have unbalanced the predominant representation of the body to rebuild the policy of body in
benefit of wishes of the modern woman. / Salvador

The purpose of this essay is to examine how a critical view of contemporary France is transmitted in the best-selling novel in three parts, Vernon Subutex by Virginie Despentes. The theoretical base will be the notion ”littérature engagée”, made famous by Jean-Paul Sartre in the 1940s, but re-interpreted in several steps since then. Although Sartre’s definition of ”engagement” is considered outdated and too dogmatic, many researchers argue that there are reasons to redefine the meaning of ”engagement littéraire” to analyse contemporary fiction writing with an interest in human and social issues. This study will examine how the notion ”engagement” can be applied on Vernon Subutex as regards the description of characters and the depiction of a neoliberal society, and its effects on human beings.

En narratologisk analys av Sonia Nimrs Fenixtrilogi / Who are the jinn and what do they do? A narratological analysis of the Thunderbird trilogy by Sonia NimrSteinholtz, Anna-Karin January 2023 (has links)
The jinn is a frequently occurring entity in Arabic culture and literature since pre-Islamic times. The purpose of this literature study is to examine how the jinn are described and represented in the Thunderbird trilogy by Sonia Nimr. Their narrative and literary functions in the books relate to their representation and function in Arab culture and in young adult fantasy. Mieke Bal’s classification of roles in the narrative cycle is used in the analysis. The result is that the jinn bears a strong resemblance to the classical image of a jinn in Arabic literature and culture, but that some details differ. Most prominent are the jinn’s unambiguously good qualities and functions in the story. The conclusion is that the trilogy is clearly in line with other fantasy literature for young adults, but that the jinn has a unique role as a helper or as the good power. It therefore has a clear pedagogical role in line with children’s literature and Young Adult literature.
