Who is allowed to join in? : A study on inclusion in children and youth literature and inclusive reading.

Callen, Annika January 2019 (has links)

The reflections I bring in this dissertation aim to identify the traits of Africanities in children's and young people's literature in the Spanish language in its Afro-Diasporic context. To present such traits of Africanities, I had to rethink how the African matrix appears in Spanish-language short stories and in what they consist. For this, I listened in the form of categories of analysis, the found africanities. Being these categories: The representations of Ananse; The power and importance of the word for African cultures; Áfricas: memory and community; The presence of animals / characters. With regard to theoretical and methodological development, I start from the recognition of the classical studies that approach the theme of children's and youth literature during the historical trajectory of this literary genre. Such as: Támes (1990); Coelho (2000, 2006); Hunt (2010), among others. However, I focus mainly on the issues regarding the representation of the black characters, the research of Rosenberg (1985); Oliveira (2003, 2010); Gouvêa (2005); Jovino (2006); Araujo (2010, 2015); Debus (2012); among others. With regard to the theoretical elucidation of the concepts of africanities and afrocentricity, which are the guiding axes of this research, it was necessary to carry out reflective studies by discussing them with postulations of Afro-Brazilian and African researchers. Already, for the methodology of analysis of short stories, I’m based on the African praxis, postulated by Silva (2008). I’m also explain that the analysis will be done in an afro centered perspective, prioritizing Afro-diasporic theoretical basis. Regarding the corpus of this study, the works chosen were: Anancy in Limón (2002), Costa Rica and Multiculturality and Plurilingualism - Oral Tradition and multilingual education in Central and Southern Africa (2012), from Equatorial Guinea. The results point out that the researches with children and young people's literature that discuss the representation of black characters, although there are still some vestige of stereotypes, as highlighted by Rosemberg (1985), Oliveira (2003, 2010), Araujo (2010, 2015 )). It is worth emphasizing the didactic and pedagogical character of the narratives and the importance of the argumentation, articulation, developed by Ananse, the power of the word, animals and memory and community for African cultures.

Conflitos, medos e dores na literatura infanto-juvenil israelense: análise de obras selecionadas entre as décadas de 70 e 90 / Conflicts, fears and sorrows in Israeli children\'s and youth literature: analysis of works selected from the 70\'s to the 90\'s of the 20th century

Claudia Regina Gama Garcia 05 November 2010 (has links)
Our aim is to investigate Israeli childrens and youth literature, especially in some works selected from the 70s to the 90s of the 20th century. In this study, we intend to observe how the concepts of mimesis and verisimilitude are presented in these works by means of analyses regarding both the fictional representation and the historical veracity. Our research is focused on the question of the conflicts, fears and sorrows that pervade Israeli childrens and youth literature, which are the aspects that motivate our study. Based on the theoretical analyses carried out, we identify these issues and present some reflections for the discussion on the nature of our theme and its development. The works analyzed are Sumchi (1978) and A panther in the basement (1995), both by Amós Oz, and The monster in the darkness (1976), by Uri Orlev. Through the description and comprehension of the conflicts, fears and sorrows in the works mentioned, our study may contribute to the scientific inquiry on Israeli childrens and youth literature.

Adriana Falcão, Flávio Carneiro, Rodrigo Lacerda e a literatura juvenil brasileira no início do século XXI

Luft, Gabriela Fernanda Cé January 2010 (has links)
The present research offers a study on the Brazilian youth literature published in the first decade of the XXI century, through the analysis of books awarded by the National Foundation of the Children and Youth Books (FNLIJ) and by the Brazilian Camera of Books (CBL), that grants the Jabuti award. Starting from data systematized by Marisa Lajolo and Regina Zilberman, a brief panorama of the Brazilian children and youth literature from 1890 to 1980 is presented. Such contextualization allows the outline of the course and of the tendencies of this genre along that period of time. After that, having the studies developed by Teresa Colomer as a basis, it is exposed the main lines of the current youth literature, which are compared with the characteristics of the juvenile narratives that were awarded from 2001 to 2009. Once a typology of the Brazilian contemporary youth literature was established, the following works, Luna Clara & Apolo Onze (2002), by Adriana Falcão, A distância das coisas (2008), by Flávio Carneiro, and O fazedor de velhos (2008), by Rodrigo Lacerda, are studied. They are analyzed, based in the studies of theory of the narrative developed by Carlos Reis, Ana Cristina Lopes, Antonio Candido and Yves Reuter, among others, having categories as plot, character, narrator, time, space, language and the predominant themes, to be observed. Through the reading, the observation, the analysis and the comparison of the works that integrate the corpus, the research aims to present the characteristics of the Brazilian youth literature produced in the first decade of the XXI century, with the objective of answering which the main tendencies of the genre and which its position in the national scenery are. It is verified the appearance of a reasonable number of new authors, the diversity of themes approached and the increase of the narrative complexity.

Each student receives among other things, the book Tchau (2004), by Lygia Bojunga, great success of children s literature, winner in 1985, the prize The best for the young considered by the national Book Foundation Children anf Youth. The desire to understand the reason for success of Tchau, a fact confirmed by the testimonies given by students of Venha Ler Comigo led me to investigate the ideology that underlies the work. Ideology, common sense and not critical sense, is understood as a set of ideas, thoughts doctrines or worldviews stored in the frame of an individual or group, oriented their social actions. Now, a book that came to meet of these values and beliefs would certainly be welcome. The analytical approach of a text should support me on theories of multifunctional, such as Systemic Functional Grammar, to clarify the conjunction between information-interaction-language, made respectively by metafunctions Ideational, Interpersonal and Textual. The aim of this research is to analyse the ideology that permeates a chapter of this tale O bife e a pipoca , book Tchau (2004), a successful book dedicated to children and young people, by Lygia Bojunga, examining the metafunctions Ideational and Interpersonal through Transitivity and Appraisal. The research should answer the following questions: (a) how is characterized the Transitivity in view of the ideology that is established in this chapter? (b) what is the role of Appraisal on this issue? The results show that a careful analysis of the lexicogramatical choices made in the systems of Transitivity and Appraisal can bring out the ideology that marks the chapter focus / Leciono na EE Prof. Adherbal de Castro, nas 6ª série/7ºano, e tenho um projeto denominado Venha Ler Comigo, que se originou diante da baixa classificação atribuída à escola, no item domínio dos conteúdos, competências e habilidades escritoras.

Lectures de la littérature pour la jeunesse dans l'enseignement secondaire français et québécois : diversité des corpus, des finalités et des pratiques pédagogiques / Readings of youth literature in French and Quebec secondary teaching : corpus, purposes and pedagogical practices diversity

Raimond, Anne-Claire 30 January 2009 (has links)
In France and in Quebec, youth literature has been neglected for a long time by the secondary teachers or discorded from french lessons. Nevertheless, in 1996, it appeared in ministerial lists exclusively dedicated to it and intended to the high school teachers. One year before, the Quebec teachers were invited to include it in reading practices. It has been considered as a matter for pupils’ personal reading. The aim of this research is to identify youth literature works that have been selected for French and Quebec secondary teaching, then to know the purposes given by the teachers and their pedagogical practices when they introduce it in their classes. The first part relates the history of youth literature through the first teaching aids’ one, created to teach, to educate or to entertain children in the different places that are opened to them (periodicals and various books). The second part is about the place that the secondary teaching gave to youth literature, in its different programs. At last, the third part moves on the texts for the youth and the practices that nowadays teachers propose to their pupils. Our research belongs to the sphere of French language didactics and affects the specific fields of literature and reading didactics. It has a descriptive purpose and it asks questions to fixed corpus, intended to teachers (official instructions, reading notes and documents extracted from pedagogical reviews), in a diachronic and synchronic view.

The Child as a Protagonist : Onset, Fluctuations and Paradoxes of a Key Figure of Contemporary Theatre for Young People in France and Italy (1959-2015)

Lesourd, Sibylle 06 February 2016 (has links)
Theatre for young people is experimental—the desire for and the modalities of an encounter between creators and a specific audience undergo redefinition with each performance. This PhD thesis sheds light on how theatre for young people came to be in France and Italy throughout history, as well as on the experiments carried out by the pioneers in the field. The focus is on the emergence of the child as a new protagonist within the theatrical field and on attempting to determine whether he indeed lies at the core of the creative process. In the first part, the emphasis is on the significance of the role of theatrical animation at the turn of the 1960s. The idea of a natural transition from artistic experiences involving young people to theatrical works designed for them was passed on from France to Italy ; by identifying the child as a potential partner in the creative process, theatrical animation prefigured the onset of new aesthetic forms directed to young audiences. In the second part, the aim is to show how artistic research has been crystallizing on the child as a spectator, who has become a specific target for stage directors and playwrights from the 1980s onwards. While reflecting on how to emancipate him, artists have taken ownership of various textual materials—some of which unexpected—and a path can therefore be traced from adaptation to creation. In France, a theatrical repertoire which belongs to youth literature in its own right has been emerging. At the same time, in both countries, the child as a character has been earning his way in play scripts and on stages. Thus, a specular relationship can be established between the child as a spectator and his double.

SURDI, ELENA 14 February 2013 (has links)
The writer and illustrator Antonio Rubino (1880-1964) was a significant artist in the children’s literary panorama of the twentieth century. His works are connoted by strong irony and multimedia expressive solutions. This research is focused on Rubino’s works edited on children’s periodicals in the first half of the 20th century, a field that hasn’t been systematically studied yet by critics. This ideal point of view highlights the contents transmitted by the author to the young reader, underlines the relationship between the artist and the fascism and delineates the multimedia evolution of his children’s production. The analysis of the Rubino’s artistic thought, influenced by the contemporary trends, shows the peculiarities of his ironic style. It also guides to an educative consideration that examines the responsibilities of the author for young readers.

Identiteitsontwikkeling in geselekteerde jeugverhale van Barrie Hough / Judith Elizabeth Vos

Vos, Judith Elizabeth January 2006 (has links)
When youth novels were first written, Afrikaans speaking adolescents spent their time reading the original and absorbing youth novels then available. These suited their psychological and environmental development and they could identify with the language and style used in these novels. The contents were a representation of a world which they knew and in which they could feel secure. Although authors often dealt with issues relevant to the adolescent world, the plot reflected a secure and nurturing world where the readers and their life experiences were taken into account. In recent years the adolescent world has changed dramatically from a secure environment to a more exposed one, posing the question whether contemporary Afrikaans youth novels have retained the same traits mentioned earlier and answer to the same norms. The value of literature should never be underestimated; it can develop the imaginative skills and moral values of adolescent readers. Also, it has become clear that adolescents have a great need for reading material that deals with relevant issues. The main focus of this study is characterization and development of identity in selected youth novels by Barrie Hough, viz. My kat word herfs, Vlerkdans and Skilpoppe as revealed in textual analysis and empirical research. The literature study focuses on developmental psychology and the reading expectations of the adolescent, character development according to some narrative theories, e.g. reader response criticism and intertextuality theories. The main objective of this study is to analyze, interpret and evaluate the above three youth novels in order to establish whether or not the contemporary adolescent can identify with these specific stories. It has been found that the adolescent reader in the early years of the twenty first century is able to identify with the contemporary youth novels such as those by Barrie Hough. Although young readers do not want to steer clear of contentious themes and issues in youth novels, it seems that they still prefer evergreen classical topics and themes. This suggests that the modern adolescent is still positive about life and aspires to attain goodness and moral strength. / Thesis (M.A. (Afrikaans and Dutch))--North-West University, Potchefstroom Campus, 2006
