[pt] A NATUREZA COMO ESSÊNCIA ÍNTIMA DO MUNDO: A QUESTÃO AMBIENTAL NA FILOSOFIA DE SCHOPENHAUER / [en] NATURE AS THE WORD S INTIMATE ESSENCE: NA ENVIRONMENTAL ISSUE IN SCHOPENHAUER S PHILOSOPHYIASMIM CRISTINA MARTINS DA SILVA 07 January 2021 (has links)
[en] This research was conducted to present a possible contribution to the Philosophy of Schopenhauer concerning the environmental issue debate. Based on the the philosopher s immanent metaphysics, according to which all beings are essentially Will, thus exhibiting something common among themselves and sharing the same volitive and suffering essence, we intend to present the possibility of reading/identifying in his metaphysics a proposal for an environmental ethics, even aiming at nature conservation, from the perspective of ethics as well as aesthetics, and the connection between them, elaborated in this dissertation. This hypothesis is proposed in connection to Schopenhauer s notion that everything that exists participates on the same essence, and thus must be viewed as ends and not as means. This way, the imperative for moral action should be to avoid suffering, to humans as well as to other living beings. Taking into account the aesthetic argument that Nature enjoys itself and consequently humans ought to interfere as little as possible, we argue that even though it might seem utopian to expect that egotiscally prone humans believe in the dignity of Nature, and notwithstanding that Schopenhauer s arguments hold romantic mystic-romantic elements, his metaphysics is inherently able to promote the environmental debate, specially concerning Nature Conservation. Furthermore, we think the aesthetic and ethical arguments are intertwined, since both pressupose the supression of the purposeful and egotistical Will, finding a common ground on the disinterested attitude towards Nature. The aesthetic moment of contemplation of the Beautiful and the Sublime is also an ethical moment, of suppression of the purposeful egotism. What to them is that both are moments of suppression of the individuality, and consequently of the Will. Furthermore, we believe that besides the ethical and aesthetical arguments, we can consider also Schpenhauer s eudemology as an additional argument favoring environmental conservation or against environmental degradation, this time from the perspective of rationality, as wisdom of life and not as experience of disinterest.

[pt] NO ETERNO INSTANTE: ARQUITETURA E O SUBLIME / [en] THE ETERNAL INSTANT: ARCHITECTURE AND THE SUBLIMETOMAS FARAG MARTINEZ DE C SANTOS 10 September 2021 (has links)
No caminho houve expressão, autenticidade.
[en] Humans have always sought to outline their nature. Within the contact of reality our consciousness forms and may find the desire to transcend. We can be understood as a creature split between two conflicting natures: a tension between the flesh and the spirit, the hand and the mind. It is possible to deviate from asceticism and through aesthetics understand ourselves not in opposition but as a dialectical pair perhaps capable of synthesis. Concreteness as a path to the ethereal. And so the human expresses himself through art, field of aesthetic categories. The Sublime is the one that channels this state of tension. The Sublime can be seen as an attempt to express the inexpressible – in its works there is a sense of greatness,
reverence, wonder, fear, courage. So in huge architectural structures human tries to touch the beyond but the beyond is not there to be touched, because if matter allows the journey it also limits it. What we find then is not transcendence but overcoming. From the height of the built structure we discover the true measure of our abilities, bypassing ourselves, knowing ourselves. We find expression and
authenticity. I study the anguish of the conflicted human and his attempts, through architecture, to reach the Sublime. The Tower of Babel, the Gothic cathedrals, the cosmological revolution, romanticism, the individual restrained in the industrial city, aesthetic regeneration, the society of performance, the end of transcendence, mountains and its temples of crystal contemplation. The search for meaning and
our unlikely redemption.

[pt] A ARTE COMO POSSIBILIDADE: REFLEXÕES SOBRE A RELEVÂNCIA CONTEMPORÂNEA DA ARTE A PARTIR DE JACQUES RANCIÈRE / [en] ART AS A POSSIBILITY: REFLECTIONS ON ART S CONTEMPORARY RELEVANCE THROUGH JACQUES RANCIÈREGUILHERME BEZZI CONDE 07 May 2021 (has links)
[en] This dissertation aims to present and discuss the concept of regimes of identification of the arts, developed by the French philosopher Jacques Rancière from the middle of the nineteen nineties. We are particularly interested in perceiving how, through this concept, the historical contingency of the notion of art acquires a polemical dimension, becoming the starting point of the construction of an argumentative scene that aims, most of all, at making perceptible the appearence of a dissensual power in the field of artistic practices since the end of the 18th century. First, in order to develop our discussion, we underline certain aspects of Ranciere s philosophical method, with the purpose of highlighting his efforts in reconfiguring the debates in which he interferes, without however, providing univocal answers to the questions with which he comes across. Secondly, we present the concept of regimes of identification and the main characteristics of the three regimes analyzed by Rancière: the ethical regime of images, the poetic regime of arts and the aesthetic regime of art. Last of all, we ask ourselves about which ways the concept of regimes can help us think in a contemporary relevance for the field of art and its dissensual power.

[en] BEAUTY AND FREEDOM IN FRIEDRICH SCHILLER: THE POLITICAL PROMISE OF AESTHETIC EDUCATION / [pt] BELEZA E LIBERDADE EM FRIEDRICH SCHILLER: A PROMESSA POLÍTICA DA EDUCAÇÃO ESTÉTICAMATHEUS SAMPAIO BENITES CORREIA 12 January 2023 (has links)
[en] This work aims to study the theory of the German philosopher Friedrich
Schiller about beauty and demonstrate how such theory as exposed in The
aesthetic education of man presents a new type of freedom, characteristic of the
aesthetic state of mind, which carries a political promise. According to Schiller,
the Enlightenment failed and the French Revolution degenerated into terror
because of an imbalance between reason and feeling in culture. The human being
is a being of mixed nature, so that reason and feeling need to be in balance for their
fullness. Starting from the aesthetics of Immanuel Kant, Schiller argued that, when
contemplating beauty, no human aptitude dominates the subject, who reaches a
state of suspension, active and passive at the same time: the aesthetic state. In it,
both their laws harmonize. The French thinker Jacques Rancière argued, in
Aesthetics and Its Discontents that Schiller s aesthetic education can be an
alternative to the old idea of political revolution, since it configures a new type of
experience of the sensible without domination and without hierarchies, where
everyone is equal and where feeling is not subjugated by reason. There is, in the
experience of the aesthetic free play the revocation of the dominion that reason
established over sensibility, such as that undertaken by the oppressor over the
oppressed. Art, as described by Schiller and Rancière, is not at the service of a
certain Poetics or ideology. Nor is it art for art s sake. This new aesthetic regime
is characterized by autonomy in the form of the experience of the sensible, which
go es beyond the aesthetic to the political, from beauty to freedom.

[en] HEIDEGGER AND THE VISUAL ARTS: THE THINKING OF ART BEYOND THE REPRESENTATION / [pt] HEIDEGGER E AS ARTES VISUAIS: O PENSAMENTO DA ARTE PARA ALÉM DA REPRESENTAÇÃOGABRIELA FAGUNDES DUNHOFER 26 June 2015 (has links)
[en] This thesis seeks to reveal, in Martin Heidegger s philosophy, the issue of representation in the visual arts. Thinking about art in Heidegger departs from the aesthetic, since he distances himself of any form of dealing with art as an object of subjective appreciation of the human being. Thus, I present a critique of the metaphysics and the thought of representation undertaken by the philosopher, mainly in the fields of art. For this purpose I investigate the work of art itself, resuming and developing fundamental issues in Heidegger s thought, as the concept of being and of truth. In the essay The Origin of the Work of Art, the conception of truth emerges as an original opening and unveiling, and art is thought as creating and transforming the world. The history of art is then understood as the history of discontinuity, in which each change is a breach, a gap that originates a new world. Therefore the art typically reveals the truth of a historical era. The next step is taken by addressing the writing About Sistine, where Heidegger brings important elements for reflection on criticism and aesthetics. Finally, I refer to the writings in which Heidegger comes to the subject of sculpture and its relationship to space: Observations on Art - Sculpture - Space and The Art and Space. Here I investigate the concepts of space and place in the work of the philosopher, and the way they relate with the works of sculptors Eduardo Chillida and Benhard Heiliger. In one last attempt, I reflect on how art would allow an unrepresentative thought. In art there is space for a new kind of thinking, not orderly and systematic anymore, but poetic, from the continuous transformation of the being that belongs to its original essence. In summary, this study seeks to articulate Heidegger s thought with an analysis guided by the visual arts, getting more in depth in the matters of representation and metaphysics critique.

[en] LANGUAGE AND EXPERIENCE: THE SINGULARITY OF THE PERCEPTION OF SCHOOL CONTEXT BASED ON THE CONTRIBUTIONS OF WITTGENSTEIN AND BAKHTIN / [pt] LINGUAGEM E EXPERIÊNCIA: A SINGULARIDADE DO OLHAR PARA O CONTEXTO DA ESCOLA A PARTIR DAS CONTRIBUIÇÕES DE WITTGENSTEIN E BAKHTINELAINE DECCACHE PORTO E ALBUQUERQUE 16 June 2008 (has links)
escola. Para contemplar esse interesse, o presente estudo
desenvolveu o tema da
experiência subjetiva como produção singular e
permanentemente inacabada, a
[en] The work in a school offers the opportunity to think about
the complexity
of issues that involves the construction of knowledges
associated with the
construction of bonds of intersubjective relationships.
This research focused in the
unique and incessant production of subjective experience
that expresses itself in
life and, in this particular case, among the collective
practices that are part of the
polyphonic scenario of a school. This work developed the
theme of the subjective
experience as a singular and permanently unfinished
production, with the
contributions of the thoughts of Wittgenstein and Bakhtin,
two philosophers of
language. Inside this perspective, language, as a cultural
practice that
characterizes our humanity, redefines the interiority of
this experience recognizing
it as unique and, at the same time, determined by the
characteristics of a certain
historical and cultural time. In this study, we deal with
the concepts of ethics and
aesthetics, both strong references inside the philosophies
of language of
Wittgenstein and Bakhtin. These concepts allowed the
expression of a way of
looking at the experience at school and faced a kind of
tension in the approach of
the singularity of subjective production and it's
construction as action and
reflection.

[en] John Cage was surrounded by sounds and their consequences throughout his life. His active and inventive relationship with sounds and silences of theworld reverberates in all practices in which he was involved. The
different ways in which texts, poems, music, visual arts, films, performances, are written embody a poetics that is created by listening intensely to reality. Poetics which, in the exercise of their complexity, between order and contingency, sets in motion inventive and powerful ways to destabilize the world and their languages, and gives voice to other possible formations of communities. The following ten words have been chosen from his various works: circumstance, devotion, discipline, structure, imitation, indeterminacy, intention, interpenetration, method and notation. It is in those ten words that this text is written and inscribed, crossed by procedures and chances, putting into practice its ethical and aesthetic thinking.

[en] This dissertation aims to analyze, in view of matters observed in the clinic, the relationship between two worlds: the world particular to the individual and the world external to that individual, represented by the so-called postmodern societies. The idea of a lost self is for us an image that represents what has been
happening nowadays when people attempt to be a unity in our enormous communities. Using illustrative examples from the clinic, we will intertwine contemporary people s narratives with observations from Psychoanalysis and Social Sciences. We want to observe how societies treat their inhabitants and how
much critical thinking can people have concerning the world in which they live. Among so many possibilities of being there is one in special that calls our attention because of its cunningness in thinking and acting. We will approach here this profile of people who manage to journey through the excesses the megalopolis pour down on them using a special filter that allows them to preserve what they have of most precious: their authenticity.
