The objective of the present study is to think over shoemaker craft in Belém, Pará. The research starts from the assessment of cobbler’s narratives, accurately workers from Batista Campos’s district and Campina’s District, located at central portion of the city. By the review of shoemaker’s memories about their social trajectories, I intend to comprehend how this occupation altered itself, how these people realize changes in urban life and space modifications over the years elapsed, therefore, frame and reconfiguration of urban world’s landscapes. The propositions listed here point to the fact that shoemaker knowledge and know-how, and a “saber viver” that reflects everyday experience of these individuals make workshops constitute spaces of sociability. In these places, besides manufacture and repair of shoes, other social forms are produced – full of sensitive and symbolic contents resulting from interactions and relationships engendered there and by the mediation of craft inherent technical gesture.

Previous issue date: 2013-03-22 / Fundação de Amparo à Pesquisa do Estado de São Paulo (FAPESP) / This research is a gathering of meaning lines for the consolidation of an anthropology of the city of Governador Valadares / MG, Brazilian emigration center. The main focus is on the emigrant population of the city that experienced project emigration-to-the-return. The proposal is a more detailed study of the buildings / homes of these returned migrants or return paths. In this way, ethnography then tended to peripheral dynamics, the production of kinship and the prospect of living the new residence. However, even in its historical and geographical features, identified an appreciation of movement idea, physical and social. Thus, I want to give voice to the space with which the valadarenses think their lives. Some of these significant lines will be gathered in a reflection on the drover beans, recurring option in the food court of the city, both in the center as well as in the periphery. To establish a more specific logic, it was necessary to relativize the concept of identity, as a tool to understand the dynamics of moving populations. Moving perspective is the area for which are indicated all the lines presented in this work.

Previous issue date: 2014-04-04 / Fundação de Amparo à Pesquisa do Estado de Goiás - FAPEG / The proposal of this dissertation is to analyze the point of view of rural workers
enslaved in contemporary times, the social relations established in these spaces of
usurpation of freedoms and rights, as well as in other occupied workspaces, such as
the Brazilian sugarcane fields. Hence the necessity of analyzing concepts pertinent to
the development of the study, such as: peasants, identitary elements of peasantry,
and contemporary slavery, among others. Within this context, I seek to analyze the
history of domination undertaken in rural areas through the years, and the peasant
moral code that persisted through time in the collective imaginary of rural populations,
sustaining their process of resistance, in order to maintain a traditionally established
and productive social practice. Categories such as race and gender will also be
addressed in the course of this study, as well as others that proved relevant to the
analyses presented here. Labor relations and the rights of these workers, likewise,
were analyzed in the text, and the presence of rural labor unions and other
representative organizations, in the daily work of these categories. The study will also
include analyses which refer to the maintenance of the hierarchical segmentation in
the workspace, the elements that motivate it, as well as the acts of violence practiced
on workers over the years.
A pesquisa trará, ainda, análises referentes à

Previous issue date: 2010-12-20 / Analysis of the neighborhood of Praia Grande, São Luís, Maranhão, from the
program of preservation and revitalization and marketing strategies for selling the city
on the global market has been consolidating in a "postcard" which is a reference
golden age of colonial and imperial period and the "certified" World Cultural Heritage
granted by UNESCO. It describes the urban landscapes in the area, production and
space race with the conduct of the changes in the functional transformation of the
neighborhood when he was elevated to the point of attraction for tourism due to the
collection of cultural heritage. It studies the process of the use, misuse and reuse of
urban space and built items, permeated by conflicts of interests and classes. It shows
that the district of Praia Grande is facing infrastructure problems, especially with the
lack of public investment, which has been widely denounced by tourists and traders.
It concludes that, during the process of revitalizing the neighborhood of Praia
Grande, cultural goods were re-appropriated by the government in the discourse on
the built heritage, a fact which helped to promote the city show at the same time that
overshadowed the urban and emptying rationality on the capital's historic center,
masking the problems of the old urban center.
cultural.

Previous issue date: 2006-05-29 / Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior / The metropolis youth nowadays has showed itself as one of the main unknown members for those who live in the cities. Though enchanting us, or scaring us with actions which we can t find logical answers to, who they are, how they live and what they think are just some of the questions that we make when we see the most different forms that are used when they present themselves in the streets, overall when this passing happens at night, a time of day that is usually linked to the idea of rebelliousness and amoral attitudes. With black clothes, make up in their faces, dark look, the gothic ones that pass through São Paulo city carry, in their speech and aesthetic all the characteristics that were pointed before, being considered, lots of times, as demoniac and phantasmagoric beings. This dissertation worried, because, with the comprehension of the imaginary and aesthetic of these young people from São Paulo, remaking, with them, the trajectory through the nights of the city, as well as frequenting some of their privet spaces, in special the Madame Satã bar. In the matter of ethnographic stories through the gothic spaces in the city of São Paulo, this research, divided in three chapters, had, as its major objective, the will to show that the new gothics of this city, in contrast of what is known from the decade of 1980, the myth of vampire and the gothic movement possess a relation that go both ways and, the line that aligned these two aspects is the aesthetic, that connects itself, as Delleuze and Guattari demonstrate (2005), the mythic living and the nomadism of those who walk through the space, having the search of life s meaning in this perambulation and a living of timing that is different of those that don t comprehend their symbologies. Therefore, it is the eternal human search for a meaning. From the main challenges of observation, it was distinguished: 1) comprehend what are the messages that gothic people want and transmit to the society of São Paulo through their mortuary aesthetic; and, 2) Point and study what are the symbologies and myths that make this aesthetic, at first european, being used as identity construction of a selected group in the city of São Paulo, seeing, in special, the clothes, the places that they often frequent, their musical and arty taste and ways of showing their bodies. Knowing these young people from inside, in their coexisting places in São Paulo city, it studied, as well, the main artworks specially the modern literature, whose major reference is in the American writer Anne Rice since it had the hypotheses that these help to build their aesthetic notions today, for instance, the way they speech, the truth of each young person that frequent the movement, the way they use their bodies to pass messages with no need of verbalizing them, their ways of staring, dancing or even sitting and walking / A juventude das metrópoles atuais tem se mostrado como uma das principais incógnitas daqueles que habitam as cidades.

Previous issue date: 2006-07-11 / Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior / This ethnographic study describes and aims at interpreting the processes of recovering freedom by men who have lived the experience of criminal imprisonment in Brazil. It starts from the premise that imprisonment sets off values, traumas, behaviors and attitudes that are present when these subjects resume their lives after being released from prison. Freedom is not limited only to the opening of gates so that the subjects can leave the objective reality of having experienced imprisonment. The conception that persists about the ex-prisoners is that they are dangerous and devilish men, who are capable of catalyzing fear, insecurity and mistrust. They are considered the reverse side of civility, since they are dangerous, superfluous and susceptible of being exterminated. This image is also strengthened by the imprisonment heritage of being confined, by the vigilance and control perceived in the codes of ethics and conducts and the feeling of being strange that they feel when leaving the prison. To find out whether or not and to which extent imprisonment has been fixed on these subjects demanded a process of work, whose basic premise was a long life experience with this other. The basis was the narratives of fifty-two men, former prisoners who were interviewed and followed up for three years. The interpretation of these narratives enabled the acknowledgment not only of their creative and active potentials, but also the identification of several factors that resulted in the immobilization of their actions, plans and projects. Our starting point was to find out when the ex-prisoner ceases being considered an ex-prisoner? By giving voice to these subjects, we could understand the consequences of imprisonment in the attempts of being adapted to the outside world and/or of rebuilding their lives after prison. Based on their expressions, the prison itself was evaluated as a system and as such, the disciplinary techniques that were used were also evaluated. Michel Foucault and Irving Goffman s theoretical references were used to analyze the aspects of the imprisonment regime present in the ones that were subject to imprisonment and to analyze the consequences of this past of prison in the reconstruction of the identity of these subjects when they leave it. This past that is present in their lives was analyzed, and from it was confirmed that despite the drastic consequences of confinement, the subjects can react to them, with the aim of overcoming them to reach the emancipation status of a former prisoner, by thinking and acting free from imprisonment. The narratives were classified according to criteria of individual and group memory, analyzing their resignifications based on Michael Pollak. Conceptual schedules that were organized into chapters in this work stemmed from the analysis of the narratives: the singularities perceived in the research field that characterize the subjects, the exit from the prison and their introduction into the family and social milieu; their behaviors after prison, the re-signification of the delict and of the prison and finally the attempts of emancipation through work. From these schedules, it was possible to discuss issues referring to emancipation and identity, which were impacted by confinement, in terms of making their actions capable of overcoming the ex-prisoner status / Este estudo etnográfico descreve e busca interpretar os processos de retomada da liberdade por homens que viveram a experiência do encarceramento penal no Brasil.

Previous issue date: 2005-05-12 / From the day-by-day lived at school, this dissertation proposes to understand how teenager students (12 to 14 years old), Stage II of Ensino Fundamental, constitute cultural identities within a closed conection to midia and youth cultural, at the same time that they reject the school cultural world. It questions about the nature of the teenager students cultural manifestations, by questioning in what extent these manifestations constitute cultural identities and own styles that resist to new forms of power, typically of a society of control. Hence, it was carried out a case study of a Council Secondary School from the West zone of São Paulo.
With respect to the studied object, the research had the following hypotheses: a) the teenager students demotivation, related to the teaching and learning processes done in the classroom, translates in a rejection to the actual school behaviour model and justifies the actual crisis; b) the teenagers try to get far from the cultural world offered by the school and conect themselves to the youth cultural by the midia mediation, particularly by the radio mediation, TV and CDs, by seeking different cultural identities from those offered by the school and by the family; c) these identities relate to today , the present, and they deny the past as well as a future perspective; d) it is possible of noticing dimensions of resistance, according to De Certeau, about the constitution of these identities related to new forms of actual power in our society.
The field research work showed enough elements that confirmed the hypotheses. The seek of colective identities that identify them to the reference group and make them different to other society groups, including other teeanager groups, showed extremely strong among students. For this reason, they make an effort to what they consider cultural manifestations and own style of youth cultural, linked to the consume / A partir do cotidiano vivido na escola, a dissertação se propõe entender como alunos e alunas adolescentes (12 a 14 anos), do ciclo II do Ensino Fundamental, buscam constituir identidades culturais em estreita conexão com a mídia e as culturas juvenis, ao mesmo tempo em que rejeitam o universo cultural da escola.
