My father killed my sister" : A literature study on women’s experience of honor oppression and the social services’ challenging work

Khelifi, Somaya January 2024 (has links)
Honor-related violence and oppression is a global social problem where women who are at risk of honor in many cases do not dare to seek help and support from social services. The purpose of this study is to investigate how women are affected by honor-related violence and oppression and what challenges the social service in Sweden is facing. The study is carried out through an overall literature study in the form of 12 scientific articles. The results show that honor-affected women live under constant oppression where standards of honor are more prioritized than the women's well-being and right to freedom. It also shows that the social service is going through a series of different challenges, including through a lack of experience and a lack of cooperation between different authorities. When these results are presented, it becomes clear how dishonored women are considered "especially vulnerable", which pushes their isolation in society even more. The social workers' lack of experience on the subject means that vulnerable women do not receive the help and support they need. In addition, the dishonored woman runs the risk of being subjected to even more violence by her perpetrator if she is denied the support and help she needs. This study sets out what problems honor-prone women can encounter in contact with social services. Their contact with social services can either free them from honor violence or make the situation even worse.

Nordfeldt, Maja January 2023 (has links)

Men's violence against women - a constantly ongoing pandemic.

Dahlberg, Tua, Jonsson, Ida January 2023 (has links)
Men's violence against women is an extensive social problem, where international studies implies that men’s violence against women tend to increase during crises in the society. The aim of this study is to examine if the practical work in the open care with female victims of domestic violence was affected and changed due to the covid-19-pandemic. The study also aims to examine whether social workers in the open care experience that men's violence against women changed during the pandemic and if so how. The study is based on semi-structured interviews with five social workers in the open care. Thematic analysis has been applied to analyze the results, based on the theoretical concepts: capacity for action, organizational resilience, power, control and social isolation. The study indicates that the violence increased during the pandemic and was more severe due to the effects of the pandemic restrictions. Furthermore, the study found that although the violence increased, fewer victims sought aid during the pandemic. The pandemic also changed the practical work in the open care, regarding digitized client work and adapted working methods. Finally, the practical work in aid of abused women at the open care has mostly returned to pre-pandemic ways. However, digital opportunities have emerged. The domestic violence has also increased after the pandemic, resulting in a larger focus on violence and lack of resources in the open care today.

Sjuksköterskors upplevelser av att vårda kvinnor utsatta för mäns våld i nära relation / Nurses' experiences of caring for women exposed to men's violence in an intimate relationship

Palm, Jasmine, Ellström, Johanna January 2023 (has links)
Intimate partner violence is a serious global problem that mainly affects women in a relationship with a man. The violence mainly includes psychological, physical and sexual violence. The extent of the violence meets the same criteria as for torture and the most dangerous place for a woman today is her own home. In Sweden, around 19 women are killed each year as a result of partner-related violence. As nurses usually have the first contact with women exposed to violence, it is of great importance to explore how nurses experience these meetings. The treatment from nurses has a central role and is decisive in whether the woman feels secure in opening up and talking about the violence. The purpose of the study is to shed light on nurses' experiences of caring for women exposed to men's violence in an intimate relationship. This study is a general literature review that includes a compilation of previous research. Eight articles were selected to answer the purpose of the study. Based on these articles, three main themes and eight subthemes could be identified for the result. The main findings show that nurses experience a lack of knowledge regarding care for vulnerable women, which creates uncertainty. Nurses experienced powerlessness and a lack of support from employers and colleagues. The work with abused women was perceived as somewhat complex and therefore requires good knowledge. Nurses are in need of training in identifying and caring for women exposed to violence, but also need to be motivated to adopt a nursing scientific approach where respect for the woman and maintaining her dignity is the focus.

Re-performing trauma making use of outsider witnessing : a pastoral narrative approach

Fortuin, Philene 12 1900 (has links)
The study focuses on women’s experiences of abuse resulting in trauma. This research performance was conducted within a practical theology framework guided by a de-centred participatory action research process. The study was conducted against a postmodern background and was informed by social construction discourse. Its aim was to explore whether and how narrative pastoral counselling using outsider witnessing could be helpful in finding new preferred ways of living, resulting in healing, resilience and hope for women who had experienced abuse and trauma. The outsider witness group explored practical ways of listening, observing and responding to the pain and suffering of others, resulting in a new performance of the self as valuable, competent, and enabling those who are witnessed to believe that they are survivors that have lived through and beyond the limited life span of abuse and trauma. The research report ends with a play, New Seasons, which is to be performed in front of live audiences in the course of 2012. / Practical Theology / M. Th. Social welfare services offered at shelters to female victims of domestic violence

Van Zyl, Ann-Marie 12 1900 (has links)
Thesis (M Social Work (Social Work))--Stellenbosch University, 2008. / An exploratory and descriptive research design was selected together with a combination of both a quantitative and qualitative research approach to obtain the necessary information, insight and knowledge regarding the social welfare services offered to female victims of domestic violence in shelters. The motivation for this investigation stemmed from the lack of information on social welfare services offered to these female victims. The researcher became aware of this lack of information due to the fact that only limited studies and investigations had been done into the social welfare services offered to female victims of domestic violence within South Africa. The goal of this study is therefore to gain a better understanding of the social welfare services offered to female victims of domestic violence in shelters in order to provide recommendations to social service practitioners for the improvement of social welfare services in such circumstances. The literature study firstly focused on the theories, conceptualisation and dimensions of domestic violence in order to gain an understanding and knowledge base of the theories that describe domestic violence, concepts that provide an understanding of the phenomenon of domestic violence as well the dimensions of domestic violence. Furthermore, the literature study focuses on the policies, legislations and the government’s commitment to address domestic violence in South Africa. The primary focus of the literature study was to investigate the social welfare services that are offered to female victims of domestic violence in shelters. The researcher contacted the Department of Social Development of the Western Cape in order to identify the shelter organisations that offer social welfare services to female victims of domestic violence and finally a purposive sampling was done of ten shelters in the Western Cape Metropole area which offer social welfare services to female victims of domestic violence. A qualitative and quantitative investigation was performed by means of conducting semi-structured interviews with the aid of an interview guide. The results of the investigation mainly confirmed the findings of the literature study that domestic violence is an inherent part of the life in South Africa, also that domestic violence has a variety of causes and consequences and that social welfare services offered to female victims of domestic violence are an important part of the process of empowerment in shelters. The recommendations were aimed at services in shelters and professional persons involved in the rehabilitation and empowerment of abused women during their accommodation in the shelters. The recommendations also included further research to explore the impact of these social welfare services on female residents, and to address the areas where social welfare services fall short in order to provide insight into the development of other social welfare services that are needed by female residents when entering a shelter.
