The Officers get their educational training in officer training courses conducted by the Swedish Armed Forces or the Swedish national defence college. The respons rate was 69, 6 %. Results: The majority of the cadets thought that experience was the most important factor in becoming a good educator. Most of the cadets also thought that the literature being used by the Swedish armed forces was good, however, few cadets stated that they will use the material for reflection on their own teaching when working as officers. Conclusions: The Cadets had a positive attitude towards the educational philosphy and literature being used, but few will use the literature in reflecting on themselves as teachers.

Olofsson, Mattias January 2009 (has links)
The Swedish Armed Forces has, since the turn of the century, transformed from an invasion defence to a type of mission oriented defence. This means that the Swedish armed forces have become smaller in volume, material has been terminated, a lot of personnel have been terminated and the amount of conscripts heavily reduced. The author is interested in how this has affected the Swedish armed force as recourse to the Swedish society. Before and under the transformation, one of the Swedish armed forces duties has been to strengthen the Swedish society when hard tensions have emerged in peacetime. This duty has been presented in the regulations that the Swedish government give to the Swedish Armed Forces every year.  The duty is also one of the duties presented in the regulation that controls the Swedish Armed Forces activities. The problem that is presented in the essay is how the Swedish government has adjusted this duty to the Swedish Armed Forces with this transformation in mind. The purpose of this essay is therefore to investigate and compare if the duties have been changed, developed and/or adjusted to the new Swedish armed forces as it is today. The result of this paper shows that the government has not changed the duty to strengthen the society when hard tensions come. However, it also shows that there is a continuing adjustment to the duty in form of cooperation with other authorities. This development can be seen in different ways in the varying sources that have been presented in the essay. The author has drawn some conclusions concerning the presented results and reached a conclusion that the government does not have to change the duty. It can be preserved as it is today. In order to use the resources that the Swedish armed forces contribute more efficiently, the government has to develop and specify how the Swedish armed forces can be used with the greatest efficiency.

The similarities and differences in a security theoretical perspective between the defence decision 1925 and the defence decision 2004

Lindberg, Erik January 2011 (has links)
The essay is a comparative study of the defence decision 1925 and the defence decision 2004. I will test two theories of these two defence decisions, it is realism and liberalism. What I want to get through this essay is to identify the similarities and differences in the two decisions in a security policy perspective.

Lund, Therese January 2011 (has links)
The purpose of this study is to examine women's experiences of competition and envy between women in the Swedish Armed Forces.Previous research shows that the friction between the women is created because of society's gender policy; women are the subordinate sex whose achievements are not valued the same as men. It also turns out that woman’s needs for confirmation and identification by other women, creates tension.A questionnaire completed by cadets from all the Armed Forces schools shows that envy and competition is not an everyday phenomenon, however, the majority of the female cadets feel that the men, creates competition because the Swedish Armed Forces is an organization made by men for men and a frustration among the women is obvious because of women's and men's different conditions.

Engelkes, Torbjörn January 2009 (has links)
Motivationsfaktorerna kunde delas in i två kategorier, nödvändiga motivationsfaktorer och engagerande motivationsfaktorer. / A field survey has been made on a selected group of cadets, studying on the Swedish Defence College officers training program. All of the cadets had a common military background, both from basic training as from military service abroad. The purpose of the survey was to find the motivation factors which led to the cadet’s choice to serve in the abroad service and thereafter commence officers’ training school. The result of the essay showed that there were a number of motivation factors which worked together. The motivation factors could be separated into two categories, necessary motivation factors and committed motivation factors. The necessary motivation factors has to be satisfied in order to get the will to apply for abroad service or to commence officers training. These factors consists mainly of the factors, trust - regarding own skills, trust - concerning the skills of your colleagues, officers and your unit, and on the cadets family’s acceptance. The committed motivation factors consists mainly of three factors, personal development, companionship and discipline/fighting spirit. The committed motivation factors has to be satisfied in order to make the decision to serve in the abroad service and to commence the officer’s training school. However, it is enough if only one of these factors are satisfied to make the decision. The Swedish armed forces are able to influence all of these factors. In order to make this possible the officers has to be well trained and have excellent skills in the military trade. They also need to have the necessary motivation factors satisfied. An adequate officers training, role models within the body of officers on all levels and an adequate support to the families of the soldiers and officers are basic factors in order to achieve this.

"It's This Simple, You Really Have to Want to Be Together": A Qualitative Study of African American Military Couples

Curry, Emelda 01 January 2013 (has links)
Recent studies have reported that African American couples in the military are less likely to divorce than their civilian counterparts. This dissertation was designed to document the experiences of African American military couples in order to understand the challenges they face while serving in the armed forces and the strategies they have used to maintain their marriages. A grounded theory approach was utilized to produce 12 main themes that categorize experiences of both the individual and the couple within the context of their respective military branch. Photo-elicitation was incorporated into semi-structured interviews with 10 couples to identify what they consider to be the important aspects of their marriage, the ways in which their relationships were impacted by the demands of duty, and their perspectives on the role that race plays in an institution that has been characterized as relatively race-neutral.

Organizational environment and turnover : understanding women's exit from the Canadian Forces

Davis, Karen D. (Karen Dianne) January 1994 (has links)
Women's exit from employment has been explained in relation to their individual characteristics and family status, but little attention has been given to the relationship between women's experience in employment and their decision to leave. Attrition data indicates that women become even more likely to leave the Canadian Forces, relative to their male counterparts, after 10 years of service. A qualitative approach was used to explore the relationship between organizational environment and exit among women who left the Canadian Forces after serving more than 10, but less than 20 years. The analysis, which is based on interviews with 23 women, suggests that although organizational policies and regulations are evolving in attempts to integrate women, the experiences of women as women within a male-dominated organization contribute significantly to the attrition of women from that environment.
