Improving E-Business Design through Business Model Analysis

Ilayperuma, Tharaka January 2010 (has links)
To a rapidly increasing degree, traditional organizational structures evolve in large parts of the world towards online business using modern Information and Communication Technology (ICT) capabilities. For efficient applications of inter-organizational information systems, the alignment between business and ICT is a key factor. In this context, business analysis using business modelling can be regarded as a first step in designing economically sustainable e-business solutions. This thesis examines how business modeling can be used to improve e-business design. We examine how business stakeholder intentions and different objectives of business collaborations can be used to obtain an explorative business model that can be used as a basis for designing e-business solutions. The thesis proposes a set of artifacts for business modeling and e-service design. In regard to business modeling, we propose methods that consider internal aspects such as strategic intentions of actors and external aspects such as business collaborations among them. Considering stakeholder intentions, we introduce a method to design business models based on goal models. A set of templates for designing goal models and a set of transformation rules to obtain business models based on goal models are proposed. To further improve business models considering business collaborations, we suggest a classification of business transactions that considers underlying business objectives of business collaborations. Utilizing the suggested business transactions, we then propose a method to improve business modeling. Finally, we propose a method for designing e-services using business models. The methods suggested support business modelers as well as process and services designers in executing their tasks effectively. The methods have been assessed through applications in two cases.

劉興義 Unknown Date (has links)
In the rapidly developing global electronic industry with ever increasing output, the connectors are key components of all electronic products. Taiwan’s connector industry has been providing the global electronic market with varieties of products covering a comprehensive spectrum of applications, with providers differing vastly in their sizes, market niches and business models. This research aims to study the electronic connector industry by conducting SWOT analysis on a case company, to examine the strength/weakness and opportunity/threat faced by the company when taking each of three possible business models: agency, outsourcing and in-house production. This research is summarized by describing the pros and cons of three business models using decision issues and business policies which the case company encounters at each stage of business model. This research also discovers that the case company is special in the connector industry being the sole company operating simultaneously on three models that mutually complement one another with individual advantage boosted by the company’s business promotion capability to gain synergy of the three models. Through the synergy, the company is able to achieve breakthrough in business growth.

The crypto catalyst

Patrick, Ardhe, Karlsson, Sebastian January 2018 (has links)
In a scope where continuous innovations are seen each day, the cyberspace can be seen as the tech-entrepreneurs’ playground for delivering new solutions to customers. Digital start-ups who interact through the cyberspace operate with little to no restriction despite having limiting resource. In 2008 a man named Satoshi Nakamoto developed a new technology called blockchain. The new breed of firms providing blockchain solutions have been painted to live in a borderless world with little technical restrictions. Exploring the effects that blockchain brings to their internationalisation has brought our attention to study the early internationalisation of blockchain born globals and their business ecosystem. The deductive and qualitative approach gave the results from four different companies that were involved in blockchain technology. By using previous theory on internationalisation and a deductive approach a conceptual synthesis was developed. The synthesis was later applied in the case-companies to observe the results. The findings have shown that the firms implementing blockchain in the core offering has resulted in an accelerated internationalisation. The major factors contributing to this quick internationalisations is the spread of knowledge between buyers and sellers, trough the cyberspace. However, the authors were unable to find a relationship between the accelerated internationalisation and to the extent in which a firm has implemented blockchain in its core offering. The finding has given the authors prominent answers to the research question and has highlighted the complexity of the subject. The, authors conclude the thesis by displaying the importance of cyberspace in the business ecosystem; how it attracts customers and the importance of the company’s business model. Blockchain technology proved to have effects on the process of internationalisation due to superior technological performance, but also its hype.

The Purpose of Business: Where value meets Strategic Sustainable Development

Chita, Meera, Kijtanasopa, Kulvarong, von Petersdorff-Campen, Sophia, Stam, Lennart January 2018 (has links)
The current global economic paradigm, centred on growth, is a significant barrier in the transition towards a sustainable society. Business-as-Usual companies operating within this paradigm are perceived to prosper at the expense of society and environment which is not viable on a finite planet. The need to rethink the purpose of business is inevitable as maximising shareholder value, has been deemed insufficient to create asustainable society. This study aimed to explore: how business models can be used to create value that supports Strategic Sustainable Development. Previous research proposed that the concept of Business Models for Sustainability helps business place sustainability at the core of all consideration. A qualitative research was chosen for which we employed the Framework for Strategic Sustainable Development and combined a literature review with an investigation of three expert groups to answer our research question. Our findings showed that, compared to other value forms, system value is the most appropriate concept for businesses striving towards sustainable development. Based on our findings, six themes emerged that businesses need to address to accelerate the speed of change towards sustainability. To make a relevant contribution to the intended audience,a prototype has been developed based on our findings.

Business models based on IoT, AI and blockchain

Liu, Jin January 2018 (has links)
Every time the development of technology enters a new epoch, big changes inthe business and society will follow. Especially for the entrepreneurs, it signifies both opportunities and challenges at the same time. In the next decade, IoT, AI and blockchain will be the main driving forces in the upcoming technological revolution and demonstrate great synergic potential. There is an old saying, “In a strong wind even turkeys can fly”. The company who can seize this chance may become to the next GAFAs (Google, Amazon, Facebook and Apple); whereas those who completely ignores it may be rolled out of the marketeventually. Business model canvas is a very popular method for startups to align the resources and formulate the strategy, which is also the framework used in our research. The main target of this thesis is to demonstrate a thinking method to converge these new technologies in the business models and evaluate the most significant elements in the business planning stage. It could help the future startups to take advantages of the opportunities and overcome the challengesin the new business environment.

The objective of this research is to understand which drivers affecting innovation in startup business models. The literature suggests four innovation drivers: creativity/experimentation, strategic direction, economic context and stakeholder pressure. Besides these, there is also a changing and endurance driver, walking in the opposite direction to innovation, which is the dominant logic of the firm. The research uses the multiple case study method, from four cases of technology startups that have disruptive innovation characteristics in its business model. The analysis of cases showed that the driver 'economic environment' has predominance in the process of creating the business model, as 'creativity/experimentation' and 'strategic direction' has a greater effect on the evolution of the business. The 'pressure stakeholder' has indirect effect by increasing the influence of the other drivers. Already the 'dominant logic of the firm' showed no evidence of influence. This research contributes to the advancement of theory in understanding the drivers of innovation in business models in technology startups. The research found falling occurrence of evidence on creativity/experimentation over time, leading to greater rigidity and lower level of innovation of business models. As a study of multiple case, the findings of this research are restricted to theoretical generalizations in context.

Consonant with our line of research work and education, we chose a critical guiding framework of analysis of the object of study, the dialectical historical materialism. The dissertational study aimed at authors such as Marx (1998), Mészáros (2011), Harvey (1999), Antunes (2009), among others, the theoretical framework to understand the contextual factors related to socioeconomic sphere; Paro (2012), Behring (2001) and Oliveira (2002), the foundation necessary to elucidate theoretical conceptions of the school management in the capital of the times of crisis. The methodology to undertake such a study consisted of qualitative research, bibliographical and research has also made an empirical character through case study with the use of techniques such as observation and interview with the management team a school institution located in Fortaleza. From the data analysis and theoretical framework were identified as, over the years, the logic of school management tried to establish a fine line with the business logic, and in its development, advance to expedients increasingly committed to the market interests and companies, making capital of conveniences, in fact, needs of educational institutions, leading to the apparent distance of a critical educational model, emancipatory and transformative.

IF IT IS FREE, YOU ARE THE PRODUCT : An empirical study of users’ reasoning towards Facebook’s business model and ethics

Brideron, Pauline, Hussler, Frédéric January 2018 (has links)
This Master thesis studies the reasoning of users towards the monetization of their data as part of social networking sites’ (SNS) business model and takes into consideration the ethical dimension of businesses. As the Cambridge Analytica Scandal highlighted, people are concerned about how SNS use their data, especially when third parties are involved. To study our topic, we investigated it into three sub-purposes: first of all, we aimed to get a deeper understanding about how people use and perceive Facebook. Then, we searched information about how people think and reason regarding the current offer about having a free registration while this involves giving SNS private data. This system may raise corporate ethical questions from a consumer perspective. Finally, for the third sub-purpose, we looked at the users’ attitudes and behaviors towards Facebook’s data monetization.   This study was conducted using a qualitative method. We opted for three focus groups gathering four to five people each to understand how people interact to each other’s responses and arguments about the six core questions we asked them, letting concerns and argues take place. By conducting focus groups, we were able to get a deeper understanding about people’s reasoning regarding the data monetization of their own private data but also how they might react if an alternative to Facebook would emerge. To analyze what has been said during the three focus groups, we used a thematic network analysis and generating four main themes: users’ perception and use of Facebook, users’ understanding about data monetization, users’ attitude about this aspect of Facebook’s business model and finally users’ behavior. We found a behavior-intention gap. People are actually aware of the data monetization of their own private data but that scandals do not affect their behavior as they keep using Facebook. However, they started to minimize their use of Facebook way before the scandal because of the data monetization. They consider the corporate ethical consideration as an important insight while using a SNS and could leave the social networking site for another one, if the network effect was not so powerful.
