No. of bitstreams: 1 Simone Ribeiro de Oliveira Bambini.pdf: 881601 bytes, checksum: e8289890d994387a2778c548d311fb2c (MD5) Previous issue date: 2015-06-30 / The corporate culture tends to ignore that the human body exchanges information with the environment where it is inserted and, consequently, it becomes a bodymedia (KATZ & GREINER) between the communication process and its surroundings. At the same time, the conduct regarding to the employees has been reconfigured due to the fact that the body was discovered as a powerful advertising agent. The body has gained a major representation within the business speech, and the companies have held the employees body beyond the geographic limits. As a result, the delimitations between leisure and labor have become a blur. The target project focus on the body role in the organizational communication, and as part of this understanding the body is considered as a container in which the information is supposed to be deposited and retransmitted. According to this point of view, the organizational culture deals with the employees body as a transmission mechanism of the public image which is desired to be disseminated. The aim of the project is to investigate how the internal communication becomes part of the biopolitics that heads us nowadays. As a result, the internal communication gains external visibility when the employees bodies are used as a relevant agent that maintains a close relation with the values that guide the consumer world (LIPOVETSKY & SERROY, 2011). The methodology includes a bibliography review and an exploratory research by means of interviews with doctors directly linked to the companies Unilever, Johnson & Johnson and Editora Abril and also with doctors who are not linked to those companies. It also has some theoretical reference based on the works by Giorgio Agamben (2002, 2004, 2007, 2009); Esposito (2007, 2009, 2010), the Bodymedia Theory (KATZ & GREINER, 2001, 2003, 2005, 2007, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2013), Damásio (1998, 2000, 2004); Pinker (2004) the understanding of happiness according to Freire Filho (2011) and Richard Sennett (2006, 2011) / As organizações empresariais tendem a ignorar que o corpo humano, porque troca informações com os ambientes nos quais vive, torna-se corpomídia (KATZ & GREINER) dos processos de comunicação com o seu entorno.

We intended to classify the different approaches and persuasive strategies in order to build the mapping of the symbolic universe inherent in corporate culture, since this is the environment where the corporate motivational video is produced and presented. We tried to identify the reasons why the language patterns for this kind of video have remained unchanged in the recent years despite of the advances of the technologies of intelligence. Mainly supported by the studies by Joseph Nuttin, Cecilia Bergamini, Pierre Lévy, Lucia Santaella and Harry Pross, this study examines the symbolic and ritual assemblages surrounding the creation, production and presentation of corporate motivational videos through the theoretical approach of psychology, semiotics and media. This work wishes to provide new points of view for motivation in corporative organizations / A presente pesquisa objetivou estudar o potencial motivacional dos vídeos corporativos e os agenciamentos simbólicos que ocorrem por meio desse gênero de audiovisual.

Developing Internal Communication in Fast-changing Organizations

Rajala, Inkeri January 2011 (has links)
Developing internal communication in fast-changing organizations is a current topic, which seems to exercise the minds of corporate people in different positions. Well-functioning internal communication and business success seem to be strongly linked. It motivates people, and only people who are motivated and enthusiastic about their work are able to perform well in their jobs and to secure the success of their employers. The purpose of this study was to increase the understanding of internal communications and how employees perceive it in fast-changing organizations. An understanding of internal communication and its development was searched by concentrating in selected essential internal communication areas in organizations, internal corporate communication function and internal communication channels. The focus was on fast-changing organizations due to the fact that the development of internal communication does not usually go hand in hand with other organization development and business growth but tends to drag behind. The theoretical framework was formed of internal communication in general, internal communication development, internal communication in fast-changing organizations, internal communication in different organizational areas, internal corporate communicationas a function and internal communication channels. The most valid internal communication areas were selected to be management communication, team and supervisor communication and interdepartmental communication. The theoretical framework presented the dilemmas and characteristics that can occur among the issue of internal communication development. In order to achieve the determined objectives, a quantitative study was conducted. The survey named “Internal communications at the company x” with three different forms of questions was carried out in the case company. The topic was scrutinized from theperspective of a case company and aimed to find out employees’ perceptions. The web-based survey focused on the selected issues concerning internal communication and its development. Questionnaires were sent out to the employees of the case company’s European organization and 94 responses were received. The collected data was analyzed against the theoretical framework, and with the help of analysis conclusions and managerial implications regarding this study were drawn. It was discovered that by developing these internal communication areas together, fast-changing organizations succeed better in internal communication and consequently in other operations. In fast-changing organizations, careful attention needs to be paid especially to the amount of management, supervisor and interdepartmental communication. Communication especially about company situation and financial and sales situation should be increased. Employees value open, systematic, clear and well-organized communication. Development of interdepartmental communication processes is vital in order to improve knowledge sharing across the company and consequently business performance. It is essential that all members of work community understand their responsibility to communicate. Internal corporate communications function should teach that and provide good communication tools for all employees, especially intranet, e-mail and possibilities to face to face meetings and versatile feedback sessions. Efforts to equalize communication between locations, departments and teams need to be taken.

Thomaz, Jose Carlos 19 December 2006 (has links)
Made available in DSpace on 2016-03-15T19:30:43Z (GMT). No. of bitstreams: 1 Jose Carlos Thomaz.pdf: 1251676 bytes, checksum: 9d1b8c97ccd3454324281b7eab54a296 (MD5) Previous issue date: 2006-12-19 / Corporate reputation has been considered as a resource that can represent a source of value for corporations, given the resources based view perspective. How to define and how to characterize corporate reputation have deserved attention from several authors throughout the last years. It s measurement hasn t been reaching a common-sense and the attributes that have been used for measuring are not always straightforward and useful to the managerial head of corporations in the light of managing this valuable resource. The proposal of this study was to define corporate reputation and to understand how it is built and further study its relation to the performance of corporations. Through theory revision it was decided to use the concept definition based on the theoretical approach of social expectation that uses formative indicators for its measurement. This choice is based, among other reasons, on the possibility to more directly manage variables that represent the concept and hence assist with the achievement of performance derived from reputation, as it is pointed out on the theory of strategy and finance, among others. The development of the study went through a deciding phase, when a scale for construct measuring was created that would fit to the Brazilian cultural reality. Previous research from the author showed that scales developed in other countries present difficulties for the interviewed understanding. Further, these scales present indicators that are distant from the Brazilian sociocultural reality. For this, the following methods where used: systematic revision of the literature, research of qualitative data in four focal groups, field surveys involving 3 successive samples with 379 subjects, and statistics treatment of data collected by the field survey. The second step of the study counted with 1,025 answers from employees from 12 surveyed companies and counted with 1,114 answers from clients from these companies. The surveyed companies are the food companies, the automobile assembler companies, hospitals, colleges and passenger airliner. Data was statistically treated by using the software SPSS. With this software factorial and correlation analysis were performed. Data was also treated by applying structural equations modeling techniques under the method of the partial least squared (PLS), as formative indicators have been used. For this latter treatment the software SmartPLS was used. In this phase of the study an adequate structural model built on formative indicators was obtained. It is concluded that the developed scale is a feasible alternative to the currently available scale. Further, its advantage is that it is built on formative indicators of the corporate reputation. These formative indicators are useful for the managerial head, as they indicate the strategic points of their actuation for construction and maintenance of the corporate reputation. It could be concluded that corporate communication and organizational identification are critical factors for the formation of corporate reputation. It could be also concluded that corporate reputation is a resource, which the corporate performance can take advantage from.

Empresa, sociedade e comunicação: debates e tendências na transição pós-moderna / Business, Society and Communication: debates and trends in the context of postmodern transition.

Rafael Luis Pompeia Gioielli 30 March 2012 (has links)
As the century XXI progresses, contemporary society gradually pass through important socio-cultural transformations which farther them from the context of modern-industrial society. Among other consequences of the postmodern transition, the relationship between business, society and communication transforms itself. One dimension of this phenomenon is the emergence of a specific model of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), named in this research as the interactive-dynamic model of CSR. Based on a political approach, this model provides a permanent process of negotiation through which mutual responsibilities between business and society are defined in a dynamic way. At the same time, the spread of new communication technologies and networks enables the emergence of an informal system of control over the corporations that operate in the public media sphere by political mobilization of civil society. This emerging system we named as extrainstitucional corporate governance. Regarding these two emerging processes, practice of corporate communication faces challenges that point to the limits of its original functionalist paradigm. Because of this, the author suggests the need of a new paradigm for the corporate communication capable of recognize itself no longer as a management tool, but as a social process of meaning construction. In order to identify whether and how the context of socio-cultural transition is understood by the market and what is its possible impact on business communication practices, a survey was conducted and data was collected in eleven in-depth interviews with communication chief officers of major companies operating in Brazil. The aim of thus survey was to synthesize a grounded theory capable of dealing with the conceptual propositions described above. The conclusions of this work seek to compare empirical and theoretical findings, analyzing challenges and contributions of corporate communication in the new context of the business-society relationship.

Environmental scanning - a South African corporate communication perspective with special emphasis on the tertiary sector

Jansen van Vuuren, Petronella 22 August 2003 (has links)
Change and the management thereof has become an integral part of management. To survive and prosper in the future, organisations have to understand the internal and external forces of the constantly changing world in which they operate. One example of the implications of change is the role of the communication practitioner that evolved from that of a technician to a strategist during recent decades. The communication practitioner has to realise that research is an effective tool to prove the value of the communication function. This study explores the use of environmental scanning as a strategic tool for an organisation to obtain a competitive edge. Knowledge management and the measurement of relationships in communication are closely related to environmental scanning. Environmental scanning is a process by which an organisation learns about events and trends in the internal and external environment. It helps establishes relationships between these trends and considers the main implications for problem identification and decision making. Any scientific research should be done against a theoretical framework. The systems theory and the information gap theory provide the theoretical framework for this study. Empirical research was conducted amongst the principals, marketing directors; information technology directors and scenario planners of all universities, technikons and registered private universities in South Africa. A total response rate of 58.7% was realised. A major finding was that, although most universities and technikons conduct environmental scanning and rate it as very important, there is no formalised, strategically aligned effort to integrate the findings with the strategic direction of the institution. The impact of environmental scanning on the respondents’ institutions is rated as significant to very significant. A revised model of environmental scanning was subsequently proposed. This model can also serve as a basis for future research and development. In spite of the different ways in which environmental scanning is conducted and applied, it has potential as a strategic tool - specifically to improve the role and contribution of the communication practitioner in the realisation of organisational goals. / Dissertation (DPhil)--University of Pretoria, 2004. / Communication Management / DPhil / Unrestricted
