Att skapa intersektionalitet : En studie av forskarsubjekt i upprättade arkivhandlingar i Valsgärde arkiv / Creating Intersectionality : A Study of Subjects in Records Created from the Valsgärde Archive

Lindström, Jenny January 2015 (has links)
This study aims to gain an understanding on how researchers leave their mark on archaeological records and to discuss what this have meant for the production of archaeological knowledge. This was done by studying archival records from two archaeological excavations of boat graves in Valsgärde, which was held in 1936 and 1950. Starting with the relation between creator/researcher and records made the idea was to contribute with a study of the relationship between records and creator. The theories being used for analyzing this was intersectionality combined with Donna Haraways situated knowledges, where created interacting categories in the material was analyzed in relation to each researcher. Both researchers material where further discussed whis this in mind. The main method used was qualitative content analysis, wich were also combined with a quantitative method of the number of records created with the same content. Through these methods interacting categoriers was found in the archaeological documentation. The created interacting categories in one material consisted of documentation of archaeological remains in situ, documentation of single finds and documentation of archaeological stratigraphy. Further three interacting categories of documentation after excavation, of weapons and single finds was found in the same material. In comparision, the other records consisted of interacting categories of documentation of archaeological remains in situ, documentation of the contex of the findings and documentation of archaeological stratigraphy. This showed how the reseachers in the studied records have left their marks on the archaeological documentation of each boat grave. The researches had desicive impact on the produced knowledge that was based on their findings, since the records that were created were created were influenced by each researcher. Arkiv, ålder och exkludering : En studie av åldersrelaterade normer inom tillgängliggörandeverksamheten vid statliga arkivinstitutioner / Archives, age and exclusion : A study of age-related norms in the process of making public archives accessible

Arro Förberger, Linnea January 2016 (has links)
The purpose of this thesis is to reveal the age-related norms which control the process of making public archives accessible. It focuses on physical access and visitors at the physical archival institutions. More specifically, it examines which groups are not included in the archival institutions’ target groups and why this is the case, the archival employees’ views on visitors’ needs and the archival institutions’ action space regarding the process of making archives accessible. The theoretical framework for this thesis is a combination of a norm critical and an intersectional perspective. The main method used is qualitative interviews with employees at archival institutions. Two different archival institutions have been examined, which are both departments of public authorities. The main result of the thesis is that there exist normative systems within the archival institutions which favour elderly people and people within the academic world. Age also matters less for people within the academic world. Accordingly, people outside of these groups can be regarded as non-target groups. Factors which can contribute to exclusion are also non-western origin and to be occupied at daytime. The explanations to why some groups are excluded are lack of resources and knowledge, a reactive approach, and the institutions’ opening hours. Regarding visitors’ needs, many visitors need help searching for material and formulating their needs, which they can also expect to be helped with. Needs which the archival employees can not satisfy are extensive reading of handwriting or carrying out research for the visitor. In general, it seems that people within the archival institutions’ target groups are more likely to get the exact help they need. The archival employees have a relatively great action space when it comes to making archives accessible, as the policy documents don’t mention this activity in detail. Morgondagens arkiv : Om arkivhantering i framtiden / The Archives of Tomorrow : About Archiving in the Future

Larsson, Mikael January 2011 (has links)
The aim of this study has been to create a future scenario of what archiving might look like in the future. The main theory used in the study comes from future studies, but also a theory about the social impact of technology on work were used. The questions that were analysed were about the tasks of the archivist, the appearance of the archival institution, collaboration with other LAM institutions, knowledge requirements for the archivist and the amount of archivist positions. The method used in the study was scenario writing, which derives from future studies. The source material consisted among other things of regulations and laws related to archiving together with some archival manuals. The tasks of the future archivist will probably consist of the same tasks as those of present archivists who work with digital archiving, even though archivists probably forever also will have to work a little with paper records. The future archival institution will probably retain its paper records and keep its digital records on digital storage media. The digital records will probably be accessed on the Internet. The cooperation between archives, libraries and museums will probably be more developed in the future, even though they won't grow together totally. Archival education in the future will probably consist of two year master's programs. There are not much suggesting that the amount of archival jobs would decline in the future. This is a two years master's thesis in archival science. / Arkiv, bibliotek och museer i det framtida samhället

Arkivens dag : En bildande erfarenhet eller marknadsföring? / Archives Day : An Educating Experience or Marketing?

Mansfield, Petra January 2014 (has links)
Archives Day is celebrated in Sweden on the second Saturday of November every year since 1998. The aim of this study is to examine how and why Archives Day is celebrated at five archives in the Stockholm region. My empirical material consists mainly of semi-structured interviews with archivists at five archival institutions in the Stockholm region. I have chosen to only interview archivists and not any visitors due to the time con-straints and the scope of the thesis. I have also examined how the goals stated in a government report are carried out in the work with Archives Day. The theoretical framework of the investigation is gathered from educational theory as well as archival theo-ry. For the educational approach I have used John Dewey’s theory of what makes an experience educational to examine whether Archives Day is an educational experience or not. The aspects of archival theory I have chosen concerns the change of the role archives play in a postmodern society. My conclusion is thus twofold. First, I argue that a visit to Archives Day, the way it is celebrated at the ar-chival institutions I have examined, does not constitute an educating experience according to Dewey’s theory. It does, however, have the potential of being an educating experience. Second, I draw the conclusion that the goals behind Archives Day are in line with the general changes of the role of archives in society. Nevertheless, it is not certain that municipal archives have the resources to accomplish these goals. For Archives Day to be a truly successful public awareness campaign for archives, the central organization for Archives Day needs to be bigger and offer more help to the archival institutions. I also argue for further user based research in connection with outreach initiatives in the archival sector. This is a two years master’s thesis in Archival Science.

”Tvingas gör man ju inte så ofta i Svenska kyrkan” : Organisationskultur, informationskultur och digitalt långtidsbevarande i en komplex organisation / ”You Aren’t Forced so often in the Church of Sweden” : Organization culture, information culture and digital preservation in a complex organization.

Lontos, Staffi January 2019 (has links)
This thesis investigates the organization culture and information culture in the archives of the Lutheran Church of Sweden. The church is the largest Christian denomination in Sweden. Since the year 2000 it is no longer a state church, though some legal, economic and even mental bonds to the state still exist. The main focus of the thesis is to investigate the influence of cultural aspects on a recent project concerning a general system for information management and digital archiving. A subsequent question is how these cultural aspects may affect the church’s future role as a cultural heritage actor. The thesis, as a framework, uses two models: one for organization culture (Granberg) and one for information culture (Choo). It combines them to a single model and connects them with Kirk’s studies on information use. Four semi-structured interviews, with archivists on national level and in two dioceses, were conducted and transcribed. In addition, related documents were studied. A qualitative analysis was carried out on the data. One conclusion made is that the general culture on national level and in the dioceses can be described as a relationship-based and professional culture. Another conclusion is that parallel cultures do exist within the church, especially in the dioceses. These parallel cultures affect the information use and information behaviour. The diminishing role of the church in the future may be the force which merges these parallel cultures into one. There are also major differences on what to count as the cultural heritage of the church. The author argues that the church should act more decisively to define its heritage and to claim its future role in the field of cultural heritage. This is a two years master’s thesis in Archival Science.

Jazz eller jojk? : En studie av urval vid digitaliserande och tillgängliggörande av fonogram på Statens musikverk / Jazz or joik? : A study of selection criteria in digitisation andaccessibility of phonogram at the Swedish performing arts agency

Martin, Jönsson January 2015 (has links)
This paper discuss the main reasons behind selection criteria indigitistion and accessibility of phonogram at three departments atStatens musikverk (the Swedish performing arts agency). The threedepartments – Svenskt visarkiv (The swedish folk archive), Capricerecords and Elektronmusikstudion (center for electronic music andsound art) – are in different ways working with musical culturalheritage and the purpose is to analyze what underlying factors decidesthe selection criteria process in digitisation and accessibility of therecordings from the departments archives. At first i give some basic facts about phonogram history and nationaland international sound archives and the history of Statens musikverkand the departments, all public authorities. The emperical material, aninformant interview and e-mail interviews, and qualitative documentstudies, is discussed in relation to the theorethical framework createdby Sanna Talja.Based on Taljas perspectives, general education, alternative anddemand, and her discourses about culture and society, i discussdifferent key factors that is important in the selection criteria process, among them the conception cultural heritage, national cultural policy, quality, education, the global music industry, reserach strategies, usercategories and demand.

Svenskt barnbildarkiv (SBBA) : Barnbilder, bildindexering och digitalisering / Svenskt barnbildarkiv (SBBA) : Children’s drawings, image indexing and digitization

Sjövall Sigstedt, Anita, Turner, Philip January 2011 (has links)
The aim of this thesis is to examine the possibilities and challenges facing an archive, Svenskt barnbildarkiv (SBBA), if to publish its material online. Our context for this study is image indexing. Our main questions are: How can SBBA index their pictures for a possible publication on the Internet? Are there any pros or cons in the determination of topics in children’s images, and in that case, which? What search paths are important when indexing children’s pictures, and why are they important? To answer these questions, the thesis is built on a wide study of interdisciplinary literature. But also on SBBA: s own handbook for image “registration”, and on interviews with the persons working at the archive SBBA, in Eskilstuna. If SBBA was to publish its material online, our opinion is that it would be preferable if this process mainly was carried out with the researchers’ perspective in mind. There is a discussion on general, standardized indexing guidelines. We however feel that it is difficult to agree on such general indexing guidelines for specific image material as children’s drawings and paintings. To attract the larger audience, a solution of automatic indexing could be a future path to travel for SBBA. We think that the focus on index image’s motives is not always the most appropriate. There are other aspects of images that can be indexed and provide search paths in image collections, image's history, technology and materials are examples of alternative paths. We believe that a user study would have much to contribute in order to further identify critical search paths. / Program: Bibliotekarie

Kulturarv för framtiden : En diskursanalys av mötet mellan arkiv och bibliotek i en nationell strategi för digitalisering

Ivarsson, Elisabeth January 2010 (has links)

The aim of this study is to examine if library and archive will meet professionally in digitization projects. The study has been conducted as a discourse analysis in accordance with the methods of Norman Fairclough, professor of Linguistics at Lancaster University. The texts are seen as linguistic and semiotic elements of social events that can be analyzed as parts of the social process – discourse. The relationship between events and structures in society will be part of the social practice. The basic data derive from five public documents collected from Swedish government agencies. The mutual subject is developing a national strategy for digitization and to contribute to the European digital library, Europeana, funded by the European Commission. The research question is: When digitizing the Swedish cultural heritage as a project of institutional cooperation, which discourses can be identified? Which will be regarded as a matter of course and which will be excluded? The conclusion is that the profession of library were the most frequent discourse in the analyzed texts. Another important factor is whether the information is born digital or if it is physical artifacts that has been digitized. The Swedish National Archives have stated detailed regulations of creating and transferring official documents as electronic records which differ from the National library proposed regulation for legal deposit of electronic documents. For the library profession, the focus is on classification, searching and access. For the archive, the focus is to secure that the records has not been modified or corrupted for sustainable authenticity over time.In the social practice it can be established that the public institutions – libraries, museums, archives – will meet concurrence on the Internet from new entrepreneurs like Google, Genline and Creative Commons.
