Percepção subjetiva de tempo durante a apreciação de música erudita ocidental: uma análise multidimensional / Subjective time perception during the appreciation of western erudite music: a multidimensional scaling

Cocenas Silva, Raquel 24 August 2009 (has links)
Music has been used in the research of subjective time perception because of its characteristics of temporal structure, as the rhythm, the tempo, the musical accents and others. The use of this technique aimed at to identifying dimensions that influenced the subjective time perception during a musical appreciation task. 48 participants (musicians and non-musicians) were listen 16 musical excerpts (20 seconds) of the western erudite repertoire and associate them with the durations of 16, 18, 20, 22 and 24 seconds. Through the MDS a 2 dimensional solution was generated representing the distribution of the musical excerpts in function of the time similarity judgment. A musicology analysis was carried out to evaluate the common musical elements found in the grouped excerpts. It was identified the elements tempo, intensity, timbral density and tension, as much for the musicians as for non musicians. Two complementary dimensions had been identified, 1) tempo and intensity and 2) tension and timbral density for the participants musicians and 1) tempo and intensity and 2) timbral density for the participants non musicians, as responsible for the alteration in the subjective time perception during the appreciation of western erudite music.

No. of bitstreams: 1 Nadja Barbosa de Sousa.pdf: 846270 bytes, checksum: bfc2b1b809c33245f92f13e6f5f1a5fe (MD5) Previous issue date: 2011-02-21 / Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior / INTRODUCTION: in erudite singing the voice has to have projection to be considered functional. It is the teacher‟s role to guide the student in using favorable techniques and strategies for vocal projection during performance, using the least possible effort. However, there are controversies concerning the teaching of vocal projection, as singing teachers have different educational backgrounds and aesthetic views. PURPOSE: To analyze the perspectives and approaches regarding vocal projection, used by erudite singing teachers in Brazil. METHODS: the subjects of this study were 72 singing teachers (51 women and 21 men), working in Brazil. The participants answered, by email, an open questionnaire, composed of sample characterization data: sex, age, work places, educational background, and time of teaching experience, as well as seven questions about vocal projection in erudite singing. For purpose of this study, the answers to the two central questions were analyzed. These questions directly concerned definitions and approaches in vocal projection, according to the subjects. The answers to each question were categorized, and then statistically analyzed. In this analysis, the categories were crossed with the following variables: sex, educational background, and time of teaching experience. RESULTS: in regards to the definition of projection, the following categories were observed: body, breathing, sound production (source and filter), sound aesthetics and audibility. The categories sound production‟ and audibility‟ were mentioned more often than the rest, and the latter was mentioned by 81% of the male teachers in this study, which is statistically significant (p=0,027). With regards to the different approaches, the observed categories were: body, breathing, perception/self-perception, image and emission forms. The categories mentioned more often were breathing‟ and emission form‟. FINAL CONSIDERATIONS: to knowledge of the participating singing teachers, vocal projection was defined, predominantly, as a combination of sound production aspects and audibility. However, the reference to audibility was highlighted, as it showed statistical significance. As far as the different approaches, breathing and sound emission were emphasized as the main strategies for work and development of vocal projection in erudite singing / INTRODUÇÃO: no canto erudito a voz tem que ter projeção para ser considerada funcional.

[en] TRAJECTORY AND AFFIRMATION: CULTURALIDENTITYIN MARIO DE ANDRADE AND CAETANO VELOSO / [pt] TRAJETÓRIA E AFIRMAÇÃO: IDENTIDADE CUTURAL EM MARIO DE ANDRADE E CAETANO VELOSO

CARLOS GUIMARAES DE ALMEIDA NETO 06 October 2003 (has links)
[en] The text intends to compare the poets Mario de Andrade e Caetano Veloso, starting the second as a follower of cultural identity project started by the first, during the brazilian modernist wave, and the influences during the second half of the twenty century. The comparison between both poets shows the specifics caracteristics of the nation e the links between the poet and brazilian cultural system. The several changes in the thoughts of both artists are shown by the analysis of their poetical producion, under an estetic and ideological view. The text also tries to separate the artists throught their own languages - poetry and music - and discusses the unity between popular and erudit cultures, which would result in a hibrid culture.

A Godless fable: atheism and the philosophy of Bernard Mandeville.

Corbeil, Patrick 11 August 2011 (has links)
The Anglo-Dutch philosopher Bernard Mandeville (1670-1733) was among the most controversial figures writing in English in the eighteenth century. His satirical exploration of the nature of human sociability and economic prosperity infuriated his contemporary critics and deeply influenced the ideas of later Enlightenment philosophes. One of the most persistent questions about Mandeville's work concerns the sincerity of his declarations of Christian piety. Mandeville is commonly identified as a deist. This thesis explores the possibility that he was an atheist. The question is examined through an analysis of Mandeville’s major influences, most notably French Jansenism, Epicureanism, Scepticism, erudite libertinism, and Dutch republicanism. Key figures that Mandeville engaged with in his writings include Pierre Bayle, René Descartes, Shaftesbury, Thomas Hobbes, Pierre Nicole, and Pierre Gassendi. In the process of discussing Mandeville’s putative atheism, the methodological problem of researching and identifying atheism in early-modern Europe is explored. / Graduate

Amorim, José do Carmo 11 April 2013 (has links)
This dissertation presents as its principal objective an analysis of the work As intermitências da morte, by the Portuguese author José Saramago. There are few studies about this theme and, therefore, in the intention of adding bibliography to the studies about death on Saramago, we decided to increase the debate about that subject. This dissertation search to read and interpret this novel by the view of the circularity between erudite and popular cultures. Our studies are based both on Câmara Cascudo s studies, with his tales of the Portuguese- Brazilian folklore, and on the analysis made by Carlo Ginzburg and Bakhtin, about the intertextual dialogue between academy and folk. About the questions that concerns the myth, our studies are supported by Eliade, the Bible and the anthropological and philosophical studies about the death and the institutions that drill it, such as the Church, the government, the politics. This work also search to analyze the structure and the composition of the novel As intermitências da morte, by José Saramago. Our view touches the folkloric tales and myths that treat the theme of death and also touches works considered erudite in the academic sphere, such as The Picture of Dorian Gray, Dante s Divine Comedy, among others.
