Armstrong Ramos, Priscilla January 2011 (has links)

Silver Linings Sketchbook: An Analysis of the Benefits of Using Creative Processes to Turn Psychological Disorder and Trauma into Art

Kent, Hannah 01 January 2019 (has links)
This senior thesis will primarily investigate artistic creativity, its relationship to psychological well-being and the power of the creative process to help harmonize internal tensions caused by either mental disorders or former traumas. I will accomplish this, first by offering a brief explanation of the evolution of creative thought, followed by various scientific explorations and theories of the connection between varying mental states and creation. I will support these findings with an analysis of the lives and works created by the painters Vincent Van Gogh, Pablo Picasso, and Frida Kahlo, all subjects of public speculation about the state of their mental health and its impact on their work. This analysis will consider the creative process as a form of psychotherapy. I will conclude by sharing a personal examination of my own history with mental health and trauma and my representation of these experiences and my ability to overcome these events in my paintings for this senior project.

The Virgin and the Temptress: Scintillae.

Dinas, Heather, heather@heatherdinas.com,au January 2006 (has links)
'The virgin, the temptress and the godess' is a visual exploration of love, longing and beauty from the carnal though to the sublime. The narrative of the research has several subtexts: one that explores female archetypes, the muse as figurative source of inspiration and also beauty as a transcendental catalyst. I have sought to represent a comprehensive vision of the female muse that embraces both the spiritual and the sensual and explores the duality of corporeal and metaphysical yearning. This is done through photographic imagery; the journey that it evokes is an interior landscape that takes place in the purgatory that is longing and ascends to a sublime state of stillness and peace through the experience of the divine.

A study of the change in Frida magazine´s sex- and love relationship-material, between the years 1991 and 2012

Bengtsson, Johanna, Nilsson, Annika January 2013 (has links)
In Swedish shops today there are a lot of magazines aimed at teenagers, which fight for young girls’ attention. These teenage-magazines are one of the most important sources for young girls to get information about sex and love-relationships; therefor it’s important how these magazines portray it.  We have examined how the magazine Frida has portrayed sex and love-relationships from 1991 until today. The way sex and love-relationships are portrayed in Frida’s articles affect the young readers in their process of building an identity.  Using a combined rhetoric- and discourse analysis we found that the main focus in Frida is for the reader to have a love-relationship with a guy, instead of a physical sex-relationship. Frida uses all the rhetorical tools to convince their readers that what they are telling them is the right way to think and behave.

Den ensamma flatan och glitterbögen : En kvalitativ studie av hbtq-personers porträttering i tre olika kvinnomagasin / The lonely lizzie and the sparkling faggot : A qualitative study of lgbt-persons portrayal in three women’s magazines

Arildsson, Emma, Möller, Sofie January 2012 (has links)
The aim of this studie centers on how lgbt (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender) are portrayed in women’s magazines. The magazines we have chosen to analyze are FRIDA, VeckoRevyn and amelia, which all three have different target groups. We have, with the assistance of the rhetorical and semiotic analysis methods, assessed 18 articles with their associated photographs. These methods are part of the qualitative analysis model and are used in order to study less empirical data with more depth. With the qualitative analysis we were able to see potential patterns among our empirical data. Lgbt is known as a minority group and has often been described in a stereotypical way. We wanted to see if and how the portraying of lgbt has changed within the last 16 years and if the different target groups affect the portrayal. Our studie shows that stereotypes, according to the magazines, are still a part of the preconceptions in our society. In the middle of 1990’s the magazines wrote about stereotypes such as the lonely lizzie and the sparkling faggot. Nowadays they focus on what is seen as feminine and/or masculine. Heteronormativity is still the prescribed values of today.

Påklädda män och söta kvinnor : En studie i representationer av genus i tidningen Frida 2013 / Well dressed men and cute women : A study of gender representation in the magazine Frida 2013

Uddesson, Emma, Górecka, Joanna January 2015 (has links)
This theises aims to extend the understanding of how representation of gender is produced and reproduced in the young women’s magazine Frida. We examine this through analyzing pictures of male and female celebrities in a selected number of magazines from the year of 2013. We use a quantitative analysis of the pictures, as well as a supplementary quantitative analysis of ajectives used to describe male and female celebrities in captions. We research what types of patterns we can find in these analyses that construct representations of gender, also surveying how the celebrities in the magazine look. Our analysis shows us that the context of Frida contains several recurring visual patterns that preserves a representation of men being superior to women. We also find that for both men and women in the magazine- their attractive exterior is their most prominent attribute. That is not only perceived visually, but also reinforced by the editorial text. The result also shows us that the celebrities shown in the Frida is a very homogeneous group, with very similar attributes.

Imagens de um corpo de mulher: (re)criações na obra de arte de Clarice Lispector e Frida Kahlo / Images of a womans body: Clarice Lispector and Frida Kahlos art re-criation

Leticia Gomes Montenegro 31 March 2014 (has links)
A cintilação destes encontros, pois, é o devir aqui estudado um corpo de mulher por vir / Images of a womans body: Clarice Lispector and Frida Kahlos art re-criation is a literary and philosophic research that aims to find a womans body through the analysis of part of Clarice Lispectors literature and Frida Kahlos plastic arts, also experimented by the researcher during this academic writing.Using the read-across approach, this thesis proposes to present the connection between plasticity and textuality, both the word and the image. Taking as a point of intersection the body, there is a writer who paints and a painter who writes: in this exchange its possible to see a meeting point from where corporalities whose constancy is to be transforming emerge. There is a thin line between life and art in the creative processes of the two researched artists. The representation concept, not often used, is discussed, which makes possible the use of the word re-creation.In Clarice Lispectors book called Água Viva, a writer-characterwrites about the limits and scopes of her own writing act.It is common to find in Frida Kahlos paints a corporeal figure with surgical procedures scars due to her ailing condition that lasted her whole career. Each one in their own way and from their own living body produced re-creations that involve, in their artwork, the reader and spectator, including the researcher.According to what has been discussed we highlight the connections between literature and painting, as well as between art and philosophy. This relation not only points, but also creates poetic and conceptual bodies. These connectionsrefer to a series of transformations, studied here - a woman's body to come
