The federal civil servant as hero: the calling to governance

Hubbell, Larry January 1989 (has links)
The morale of the federal workforce is probably at an all time low. The malaise that shrouds the federal workforce is primarily caused by a sense of alienation that many federal workers feel. They feel alienated from themselves and from a community. In this book I approach the problem of alienation from theoretical, personal and empirical perspectives. To gain a deeper understanding of the alienation of the organizational employee, one must look at the individual holistically. Using Carl Jung as my guide and employing his theories of the unconscious, spirituality, individuation and psychological type, I develop what I call an organizational personality typology. This organizational personality typology is contrasted with the more conventional and more one-dimensional organizational role typologies developed by organizational theorists such as Anthony Downs in Inside Bureaucracy and Robert Presthus in The Organizational of contact with their environment and themselves, a sense of meaninglessness and alienation, and an obliviousness to messages from their unconscious. Other people choose the journey of heroism. The heroic journey as portrayed in the heroic myth serves as a model for those people in search of psychological health and spiritual sustenance. It is a journey that has three primary stages: the calling, the encounter with death, and the return to the community. Each of these stages has applicability to the American public administration tradition. The heroic journey is not merely confined to the world of myth. The heroic journey, as practiced in the public service, has current exemplars in both novels and in real life. Furthermore, it is a journey that is open to both the GS-3 clerk and the agency administrator. It is an attitude reflective of a life-affirming stance towards oneself and others. / Ph. D.

The Imaginery of Metamorphose in the Litterature and the figuratives Arts of Ancient Greece.

Birette, Fabrice 05 May 2012 (has links)
The universe of the metamorphosis recovers multiple fields of the thought and the social reality of the ancient Greece. Numerous myths, diverse ritual practices confine a daily world of the transformation. Apparitions or divine metamorphosis, fables or legends of transformed heroes, dance masked, stuffings, etc., establish so many elements and motives which participate in the elaboration of the identity of the Man and his imaginery. It is considerable that the myths of metamorphosis among which the Literature and the Figurative Arts abundantly made the echo, held in this process an important part considering their big elasticity since at least the mycenaenan period. The universe of the metamorphosis confers a part of sense on the hard exercise of the everyday nature by introducing on second thought on the world of the hidden but also shows of constant efforts to think the body during the long period of the antique Greek history.

Jumrová, Pavla January 2012 (has links)
The thesis presents a typology of characters in short prosaic works of Jaroslav Durych. In the introduction the readers get acquainted with contemporary approaches of the theory of literature towards the characters and with the ways to make typologies of characters. The author's opinions about art and man are quoted too because Durych's fiction is influenced by his artistic and religious opinions. Next, Durych's prosaic works are characterised in relation to trends in literature. Information about previous works concerning characters in prosaic works of Jaroslav Durych is also given in the introduction. The central part of the thesis is focused on the analysis of characters in short prosaic works. Both female and male characters are analysed by means of the same criteria: character-definition v. character-hypothesis, character-subject v. character- object, name, appearance, soul, death, love to God and their human partner. Within each section, e.g. Appearance, short prosaic works are analysed in chronological order to show how the characters were altered and how they were influenced by various trends in literature, etc. Eventually, differences between female and male characters are named, and two basic types of female characters and two basic types of male characters which can be found in Durych's...

Os libertinos de Juliette e a libertina de Sade / The libertines of Juliette and the libertine of Sade

Castro, Clara Carnicero de 06 July 2012 (has links)
This research intends to analyze the protagonists from the novel Histoire de Juliette, ou Les prospérités du vice (1801) by the Marquis de Sade. Our goal is to evidence the development of the philosophical statements of the characters, within the libidinous scenes where they take place, relating the theory and practice of each hero with his/her personality. This approach assumes an interplay between the libertine\'s arguments and their construction in the fictional narrative. Each person presents a unique set of ideas, determined by his/her moral and physical traits, in addition to all the other aspects found in the philosophical novel gender. We, therefore, do not present a specific interpretation for the thinking of Sade, rather, we stress the opposition and convergence of ideas in his work, underlining the debate among the characters to point out the diversity of discourse amidst the libertines.

Therefore, we use the methodology of critical discourse analysis (FAIRCLOUGH, 2001) and (VAN DIJK, 2003) on social entrepreneurs life narratives to understand their social role in contemporary society. The object is the narratives present in digital media, which constitute the image of social entrepreneurs worldwide institutions: Ashoka, Skoll Foundation and Schwab. These organizations articulate new possible worlds (LAZZARATO, 2006) and represent in an emblematic way the new spirit of capitalism (BOLTANSKI and CHIAPELLO, 2009). Moreover, attribute legitimacy to social entrepreneurs, who are seen as modern Olympians, true culture models (MORIN, 2011). The social entrepreneur, in summary, joins the competence as a regular entrepreneur with dedication to work for the "common good". The pragmatism of the entrepreneurial figure combines heroic characteristics, which are the symbolic power (BOURDIEU, 2005). This process occurs through a complex network of production, circulation and consumption of these globalized symbolic heroic narratives. From the spread of the phenomenon of social entrepreneurship, we seek to understand their origin, their rhetoric constitution and how the social and cultural aspects are linked to it, as the process of celebritization (TORRES, 2014) the figure of the social entrepreneur.
