Appar i matematikundervisningen : En intervjustudie om lärares användning av appar i matematikundervisningen / To use apps in mathematics education : An interview study of teachers’ choice and use of apps in mathematics education An interview study of teachers’ choice and use of apps in mathematics education

Gunnarsdotter, Ylva January 2017 (has links)
Tablets and apps are more and more often used in math teaching. An app is a software program used for tablet computers. The purpose of this study is to create knowledge about how teachers in classes 1–3 teach math with help of different apps. The study was made through qualitative interviews with six teachers who work continuously with applications in math teaching. The result shows that if apps are to be used in teaching there should be a clear goal and purpose of the use. It should also be possible to relate to the curriculum and the course book. Furthermore, the study reveals that there are different ways and purposes of using apps. The apps are mainly described as complementary tools and as an asset in order to introduce a mathematical area. The teachers’ purposes were, for example, to increase the amount of practice, individualization, or to create a higher accomplishment rate. Other purposes of using apps were to produce direct feedback, increase student motivation, or for evaluation and follow-up. The selections of apps which were used for teaching varied and were chosen in three different ways; through free choice, via an ICT responsible, or via an IT office.

Train more people to save more lives : Teaching Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) in compulsory schools in Sweden

Olgac, Selvi January 2020 (has links)
Globally, out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA) occurs ranging between 20 to 140 per 100 000 people, with only 2-11% surviving. Immediate bystanders, i.e. a person close to the victim, performing Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) have a vital role to play in the chain of survival from OHCA. Today CPR training takes place in many different contexts as workplaces and schools, but there is still a lack of knowledge concerning CPR in society at large. The overarching aim for this thesis is to find new ways of delivering CPR in order to train more laypeople and save more lives. By initially exploring CPR training in both workplaces and compulsory schools in Sweden, my final design question for this thesis has been: How might we empower the teachers to enable them to carry out CPR training at school? Ethnographic fieldwork both exploring CPR training in workplaces and schools including interviews with mainly instructors, teachers, and laypeople as well as participatory observations in CPR training, have been carried out. In addition, the fieldwork included being a participant in a CPR training course myself. The results from my research process were clustered into insights and potential opportunity areas. Departing from these insights a decision was made to continue the thesis with CPR training in schools as reaching out to children and young people already at school can open the path for more long-term sustainable knowledge. Despite CPR training being core content from year 7 in compulsory schools in Sweden, it is not carried out in a majority of them. My research shows that lack of CPR material as well as an unclear syllabus in Physical Education and Health in how to involve CPR in your teaching, are some of the main obstacles for teachers and reasons for why CPR training is not being carried out in every school today. Potential future scenarios were explored through creative workshops and idea sessions with the users and main stakeholders. The explorations led to focusing on the teachers, as they have a vital role in being the bridge between the CPR knowledge and the pupils. My final proposal is CiPRA: a collaborative CPR education platform for teachers and schools, with the aim to increase the knowledge and the conditions for teachers to carry out CPR training, starting already from six years of age. The structure of the platform follows the years of the Swedish school system and the recommended steps fromThe Swedish Resuscitation Council for CPR training and first aid. The platform enables teachers to plan and prepare CPR training, both long a short term irrespective of previous experience. The platform is based on three main parts; knowledge contributions from teachers, teaching content both through pre-made lessons and an idea bank as well as a shared booking system for practical CPR material. Together these parts unify in an individual lesson planning for every teacher. In my final design proposal, it has been important to emphasise the main insights as well as making sure that every involved stakeholder is represented.

Post-Truth Worlds and ICT3D : Comparing two approaches to the thematic content analysis of meta-deliberation between legislators and digital platforms in the US, the UK and Brazil

Monteiro, Raero January 2021 (has links)
As a consequence of the burgeoning awareness about the degree to which communication and information technologies transformed democratic deliberation, political struggles over disinformation ensued in a number of countries. This master’s Degree Project focuses on the politics of falsehood to answer the following question: to which degree does the theory on post-truth worlds (PTW) explain the main themes articulated by legislators and platform representatives at parliamentary hearings about disinformation in comparison to a MCD-inspired perspective defined as ICT3D? The theoretical framework explains the main concepts in PTW (Farkas & Shou, 2020) and ICT3D, which is defined by this DP as the contentious field concerning the mediation of collective affairs by the intersection of deliberation systems, data politics and development dimensions within and across societies worldwide. The empirical section presents a thematic content analysis of three study cases that are used to compare both approaches, consisting of 15 parliamentary inquiries of digital platforms in the United States, the United Kingdom and Brazil within the context of right-wing ruling between 2017 and 2020. The results confirm the relevance of PTW as an interpretative key to the meta-deliberation between legislators and platform representatives, but also identify many contents that either go beyond the scope of PTW or present nuances and tensions within PTW-related codes. The findings also provide a number of conclusions on the potential of ICT3D as a theoretical approach: the contentious intertwining of data politics, deliberative systems and development dimensions was demonstrated to be present in meta-deliberation; the wide array of development dimensions raised in all cases shows the pertinence of ICT3D to Comdev; and ICT3D has also proven to be of value in demonstrating the absence of certain themes and contents that should be expected in meta-deliberation from a critical perspective. The discussion elaborates on the explanatory potential and limits of PTW and ICT3D, concluding that they operate at different levels: PTW are specific discursive formations - among others - that articulate themes and contents about ICT3D.

"Daglig dator" : Combating computer anxiety through daily online exercises

Johansson Åhed, Fredrik January 2020 (has links)
It’s well known that the contemporary rapid development of technology has created a digital divide between those who adopt and use the emerging digital services, and those who don’t. The ones who fail to adapt to the new digital society, is at great risk of being completely excluded from it, which strips away both social, health related and economical opportunities. These people are often seniors, and multiple factors weigh in on their non-participation. One of the more common factors are technology relates stress, and in extension, computer anxiety. While there exists literature on how to reduce computer anxiety, it’s often linked to physical training courses that the user can sign up for. The purpose of this study is to explore a completely digital solution, based upon the loose principles identified by Dos Santos and Santana (2018). This is done through the creation and evaluation of a senior-oriented website, that offers the user daily exercises in basic computer management, knowledge, and safety, with the goal of reducing computer anxiety. The results show both that the principles indeed can be used as design guidelines, and that my design has potential, although some adjustments have to be made.

Affärsrelationen mellan tillverkare & återförsäljare : Ur tillverkarens perspektiv

Berg, Lisa, Petersson, Linnea January 2021 (has links)
Nyckelord: Affärsrelationer, tillverkare, återförsäljare, tillit / Titel: The business relationship between manufacturer and retailers: from the manufacturer's perspective Subject: Bachelor's thesis in business administration focusing on business relations, 15 hp Authors: Lisa berg & Linnea Petersson Date: 2021-05-24 Level: Bachelor thesis for a bachelor's degree in business administration with focus onmarketing. Supervisor: Svante Andersson Examiner: Klaus Solberg Question at issue: What does trust look like in the business relationship betweenmanufacturers and retailers in the competitive furniture and interior design industry, from amanufacturer's perspective? Purpose: The purpose of this essay is to shed light on and gain a deeper understanding ofwhat trust looks like between manufacturers and retailers in the Scandinavian furniture andinterior design industry. Trust is one of the building blocks of all relationships, but thestrength of trust and confidence can vary over time. When retailers and manufacturers, whoalso act as suppliers, are dependent on each other in a business relationship at the same timeas they are competitors, trust and confidence in the relationship can become complex. It is thiscomplex part of the business relationship the thesis aims to examine and also what the issue isbased on. Method: This study is based on a qualitative research method and has a deductive approachwhere the theory is collected from scientific articles. Empirin is based on semi-structuredinterviews with three different companies connected to Scandinavian furniture. These formersteps in combination created an abductive research approach. Conclusion: The conclusion is concretized through an explanation of what the trust betweenmanufacturers and resellers looks like. Further explained is that there is more often an existinglack of trust in the business relationship. The relationship that has been not equally dependentis starting to disappear and that in combination with the lack of good communication. Thedependency situation regarding the relation between the actors has started to fade and with thedeteriorated communication the relationship can within a few years be dissolved. This withreference to the analysis that pervading has connected to the collected empiricism withreference to previous research in the subject. Keywords: business relationships, manufacturer, retailers, trust.

In the office and via distance – the future of working in balance : A comparative case study regarding which “ways of working” companies in the financial and legal industry are expected to implement post COVID-19

Lindberg, Carl, Birgersson, Anton January 2021 (has links)
During 2020-21, covid-19 has forced Swedish organizations to relocate large numbers of their employees from their offices. This has brought an introduction of teleworking in organizations, that has made it possible to work outside the office. When the pandemic is no longer considered a threat to society and national guidelines are taken out of use, parts of the new working methods are expected to be implemented for new work situations. Which in the report is referred to as “the new normal”. This report is based on a case study on qualitative interviews from companies in the financial and legal industry. The collected data is analyzed through an analysis model with a focus on: overall changes & organizational culture; communication; knowledge; and needs & motivation. The purpose is to examine Swedish organizations in the two industries and what their working methods are expected to be after the pandemic. The report examines this purpose by answering the following two research questions: • RQ1: What changes, regarding the selected focus areas [overall changes & organizational culture; communication; knowledge; and needs & motivation], that have occurred because of covid-19 are expected to be integrated into the new normal, and which are expected to disappear? • RQ2: What are the similarities and differences based on selected focus areas between the expected new normal for companies in the finance and law industry? The results show that the new normal is expected to differ between organizations and partly between industries. What is general for all the organizations surveyed is that teleworking is expected to be a significant part of the new normal, where employees want to be able to work more flexibly. Law firms and finance companies have some differences in how well their work can be moved outside the company's premises. At the same time, law firms seem to have an organizational culture that is better suited to having a large proportion of telework. However, the industries have more in common than they have differences when it comes to how they should implement teleworking in a new normal way of working. The new normal should consist of a balance between different ways of working. A lasting implementation of teleworking in the new normal will therefore need to be assessed specifically, case by case. Where different factors are weighed against eachother, such as: the interest of individuals and organizations; integration of junior roles versus senior workflow efficiency; short-term versus long-term benefits; flexibility versus structure; and spontaneity versus efficiency.

IT IS MORE THAN WHAT MEETS THE EYE : Exploring Immersion & Co-Experience in Holographic Art

Andersson, Johannes, Pettersson, Matilda January 2021 (has links)
With the growing interest in digital ways to experience art exhibitions, HCI and especially experience-centred design research have in recent years begun to show promising results when implementing holograms into the social dynamics found in art exhibitions. However, as to why holograms can enhance engagement and immersion, more research can be done. This thesis seeks to explore holograms' unique characteristics through an iterative experience-centred approach through the theoretical lens of Flow and its ability to prompt for co-experience. In two studies with eight participants, a design workshop and a mini-exhibition, we uncovered four unique characteristics and two takeaways regarding its potential to design for co-experience. The results indicated that holograms were perceived as immersive and presented properties related not only to the hologram but also the environment, as to why. It was concluded that even though holograms can benefit art exhibitions, the social aspects could be explored further.

Asking for a friend : Youths experience with youth health centres in Sweden

Björkqvist, Maja January 2020 (has links)
This thesis explores the stigmas and taboos surrounding youth health centers in Sweden and how this might be hindering young people to visit the youth health centers. It’s exploring how this can be challenged and how the threshold can be lowered by involving the informal support system and bringing the youth health center to the youth arena which allows for a more informal type of support and guidance. The youth health centers in Sweden have been around since 1970 and are a well known and established form of healthcare, yet the majority of the visitors are young women. How come? I’ve been working from the hypothesis that there is a need for more youth to seek help but that they for various reasons don’t manage to make it all the way there. There are many stigmas surrounding topics that the youth health center is dealing with, such as sex, depression, or domestic violence. This is especially true for young people on the edge between childhood and adulthood. Using a human-centered design approach this project has through the involvement of adolescents, midwives and youth workers among others, been exploring challenges and finding opportunities where interaction design can be used to improve the situation for the youth that do not make it to the youth health centers but that want and would benefit from their services. The final design proposal is an ambassadorship, aimed towards adults already part of the informal support system, that will enable youth to feel more empowered to seek help. It is set up to reach the youth in new ways, in an informal manner to bring the solution to the youth and to create a more comfortable space for them to open up within. Part of this is also a service for youth to effortlessly get in contact with the youth health center and to create personal connections to its personnel through link cards and video presentations. These connections are there to prepare the youth and to lower the bar of contact by building trust and humanize the help-seeking process. To make it clear that they are not trying to contact an institution but a person.

Berglind, Jonathan, Östlund, Jakob January 2022 (has links)
With society turning more digitalized, digital crime is reaching higher levels affecting companies and individuals alike. At the same time researchers identify human error and negligence from employees to be the largest reason for companies to being hacked or suffer from cybercrime. At the same time less resources are invested in education within information security compared to expensive firewalls and cyber defenses. The purpose of this thesis is to compare how students at Uppsala University within information systems improve their attitude and behavior towards information security after they have attended at least one course within the subject. This was done by dividing the students into two groups, one (group 1) who had not studied information security and one (group 2) that had. The study used a survey based research method expressed in an online survey. The survey was based on the Knowledge-Attitude- Behavior model which has been used in information security research before with the questionnaire format HAIS-Q. The questionnaire in question was used in this thesis as well, although slightly altered. The result showed that group 2 had better attitude towards information handling as well as a more secure behavior when facing password management. At the same time group 2 achieved a higher mean value in attitude and behavior compared to group 1, although this difference was not statistically significant.

animo- "Engaging children in storytelling activity through physical play”

Biltharia, Ashutosh January 2021 (has links)
Today’s generation is born with digital devices like computers, tablets, smartphones, and gaming consoles. Children’s passive engagement with digital mediums (digital devices and the content they offer) has become a primary concern for parents because it limits children’s learning opportunities through physical play. In this digital age, we cannot completely take away these devices from children’s sight. Still, we can create more situations and contexts that encourage children to reduce their time with digital mediums and/or convert children’s passive engagement into an active engagement. This research-informed design project aimed to understand children’s (aged 8-11) motivations, aspirations, likes, dislikes, and engagement with different physical and digital activities in their daily lives. Learning from different phases of the design process was applied to design a proposal that helps increase children’s physical play during their engagement with digital activity. Method: Findings from the exploratory research led to a few opportunity areas, which were further investigated using research through the prototyping method. User personas, their needs, and their involvement in different activities inspired me to define a few design principles I followed throughout the project to evaluate my design decisions. I set my initial research question as “How might we integrate ‘digital mediums’ with the qualities of ‘physical play’ to provide our children more exciting growth opportunities.” I could probe, test, observe, learn, and finally prototype a few scenarios that enabled children’s physical play during the digital activity. Result: The final concept is “animo- A tool to engage children in a storytelling activity through physical play.” The concept combined children’s current interest in digital mediums with their interests in the creative activity of drawing and doodling. It creates opportunities for children to build the creation by COMBINING two or more objects or mediums, by ENGAGING in physical play and/or with the surrounding, and SHARING the creation that increases their social interactions. Children learn drawing, handwriting, animation, and storytelling skills. They become more curious, observant and notice more the living and non-living things. Bringing feelings and emotions to their drawings increases their expressive and imaginative abilities. They develop empathy, love, and care by sharing their creation with others. Small recognitions of their creation give them a sense of being noticed and encourages them to explore more. Animo helps children learn storytelling through animation, but more than that, it exposes them to the infinite possibilities of learning through physical play.
