Anpassning av VOD-tjänster för breda barnmålgrupper : EN ANVÄNDBARHETSUTVÄRDERING AV BARNPLAY UTIFRÅN MÅLGRUPPEN 3-11 ÅR / Adaptation of VOD services to wide children audiences : A USABILITY EVALUATION OF BARNPLAY BASED ON THE TARGET GROUP 3-11

Wahlgren, Erik January 2015 (has links)
This thesis contains a usability evaluation of “Barnplay”, a Swedish video-on-demand service targeted at children. The objective of the study was to identify usability issues in the video service and to develop measures on improving the user interface, with special focus on adaptation to the broad target group of 3-11 year olds. The study was conducted by first mapping established practices in designs of VOD-services targeted at children, followed by interviews and usability tests with children between 2-11 concerning their use of “Barnplay”. Based on the initial data collection, a prototype was developed and then evaluated by usability testing and A/B-testing. The main conclusion of the study is the need of better individual adjustment of the video content selection to better appeal to different age segments within the target group. A design proposal, for a list of personal viewing history, was produced for displaying what the user recently had watched. Farm to Fork: A Culinary- and Farm-Enhanced Nutrition Education Program

Ray, Vivian 01 January 2015 (has links)
With obesity in adolescents becoming a major health problem in the United States, there has been an expansion in the use of nutritional education programs as intervention. Effective nutrition education can decrease the incidence of obesity and other diet-related chronic diseases, type-2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and hypertension. This dissertation in practice proposes to design a nutrition education program, integrating farm and culinary activities into a nutrition education curriculum. The program is designed as a stand-alone program, but for this practice, implementation integrates the nutrition education program into the Film @ 6 after-school program – a STEM-focused program designed to assist sixth graders in their first year of middle school – at Southeast Middle School in Salisbury, Rowan County, North Carolina (NC). This experiential nutrition education program will provide instruction and activities in order to increase nutritional knowledge, improve culinary techniques, and increase consumption of fruits, vegetables, and minimally processed foods of sixth grade students as a means to address the overweight and obesity risks of middle school children. Children and adolescents are considered the priority population for intervention strategies because 70% of obese adolescents become obese adults and it is difficult to reduce excessive weight once established (Dehghan, Akhtar-Danesh, & Merchant, 2005).

"Lets Play!"

Polgar, Daniel, Kåberg, Lee January 2014 (has links)
The purpose of this thesis was to examine if users of digital music games may acquire skills from the games that may be of use in learning to play a real instrument, that is a non-digitally simulated instrument like an acoustic piano. We have used Gee’s theory regarding a possible interconnection between different semiotic domains, and how this connection may enable a transfer of skills between related domains. In this thesis we examine possible skill transfer between the domains “digital games” and “non-digital instruments”. To examine our question formulation we chose to conduct a pilot study from which we collected both quantitative and qualitative data. The study was conducted on two groups of children, 6-9 years old, and consisted of the children accepting a musical challenge. The children in one of the groups got access to a digital piano application during a preparatory week, whilst the children in the second group lived their lives as usual. The results, and the time it took for the children to perform the assignment, was documented by the parents of the children in a questionnaire. The data from the questionnaire was then analyzed and used to draw conclusions regarding the possible effect of the piano application on the children. The analysis of the collected data showed that all children that had used the application passed the challenge. The analysis also showed that the child that had the fastest passing time on the challenge had used the application, and that the group of children that had used the application showed a faster average time for passing the challenge than the children who had not used the application. Even though some indicative patterns did emerge through our analysis of the collected data no definitive conclusions could be drawn regarding transfer of skills between the semiotic domains “digital games” and “non-digital instruments”.

Göth Nilsson, Annika January 2010 (has links)
AbstractUrban kids- Functional apparel for rough environmentsUrban kids is functional apparel for city children. The aim for this project is to develop functional clothes for the autumn and the winter season which provides a contrast to the designs presented today by outdoor and sports companies. The target group is fashion oriented city parents that do not hesitate to pay a little extra for a product representing their life style. This project provides a foundation of information to support the idea that it is possible to design technically functional outer wear for children without the sporty look.By using brainstorming and a mood board, a picture collage which gives the essence of the product, the concept “rocky playfulness” was developed. This concept is a contrast to the sporty expression.Throughout the whole project the design process has been the guide to reach the goal. This means that the project started with a primary research on materials, sustainable issues and eco-certificate, competitors, safety and guidelines for children’s wear and requirements from the user and the target group. The process continued by brainstorming and sketching in order to present three concepts. By evaluation using a function analysis one final concept was chosen for further processing. The result is a jacket and a pair of trousers as shell garments in order to use it a longer period of time during the season. The parts of the clothes mostly exposed, are enhanced with stronger, more hardwearing fabric. The choice of colors is black. This is due to the inspiration by a rocky attitude where black is often seen, but it is however not the only reason. Black is a more genderneutral color suitable for both boys and girls. It is also a practical color considering that dirt doesn´t appear as clearly as if the garment had a brighter color. One other important aspect of this project is to use material coherent with recycling and a sustainableway of thinking, focusing on finding functional material which supports this. During the research the material Eco Storm, from the Japanese manufacturer Teijin, was found. It is a polyestermembrane with an outer fabric made of recycled polyester. The conclusion of this project is that it is possible to produce/design functional wear with an urban feeling. This is in itself nothing new, it has been used in adult clothing, but the difference is that the technical function materials are excluded in the children’s wear. With Urban kids this is now also an option for the children.

Rusky mluvící studenti (z Ruska a Kazachstánu) v České republice: migrace za vzděláním a role rodiny / Russian speaking students (from Russia and Kazakhstan) in the Czech Republic. Educational migration and the role of the family in it

Kopecká, Liudmila January 2017 (has links)
The PhD thesis "Russian Speaking Students (from Russia and Kazakhstan) in the Czech Republic: Educational Migration and the Role of the Family in it", examines the life of Russian speaking students, who come to the Czech Republic to obtain a university degree. It tries to answer several research questions. How is the decision taken to come to the Czech Republic? What kind of role does family play in the decision-making process and in further intentions/plans in the Czech Republic? What are the migration strategies of Russian speaking students in the Czech Republic? How do these strategies change over time? What connections exist between the life cycle of the student and the migration process? This is an anthropological, multisite field research, with participant observation being the core research method. As of 2015, 55 student research participants participated in the research (41 from Russia and 14 from Kazakhstan), with whom formal and informal interviews were made. Transnationalism and migration system theory have been used as theoretical concepts so as to better understand the student migration process.
