Textens transfigurationer

Forssell, Jonas January 2015 (has links)
This thesis focuses on the opera text enlightened from four different perspectives: the translator, the librettist, the composer and finally the singer, based on the author’s thirty years of professsional practice, in the spirit of Donald A. Schön’s study from 1983: The Reflective Practitioner; How professionals think in action. The method is basically hermeneutic and the esthetics inspired by Umberto Eco’s Opera Aperta (”The Open Work”) from 1962. Questions from within the perspective of the translator are: In what ways does opera translation differ from other forms of translation, and how does an opera translator work? What is the history of “opera in the ver-nacular” compared to “opera in original language” and are singable translations needed whatsoever in the modern era of subtitling? The perspective of the librettist examines the opera form’s SWOT-analysis, the differences from other “storytelling” art forms, the task of making an adaption compared to choosing to create an original plot, the matter of taste and building the form from dramaturgical principles, the shaping of aria texts, the importance of tight collaboration and cutting, cutting, cutting (“a libretto cannot be short enough” Edgar Istel, 1922). The composer’s perspective contains practical and theoretical words of advice and examples from practice, together with a so ”think aloud”-study from within a composer’s thought process while working. The final chapter, from the singer’s perspective, focuses on whether modern vocal ideals and singing “in original language”, with subtitles, together with expanding performance halls, have made opera text harder to perceive, and rendered earlier established texting techniques forgotten or obsolete. The answers to all these questions are complex. This thesis concludes that the opera form is still expanding, but not necessarily in the direction of creating a new, contemporary canon. “There are about 600 opera houses in the world, all are ‘National Galleries’, none is the Tate Modern” (Per-Erik Öhrn, 2012), but there are also opportunities. Almost all successful new opera productions in recent years have their librettos written in English, a language traditionnally regarded as “weak” in the field of opera. Opera audiences worldwide are nowadays accustomed to hearing and understanding sung English words and comprehending a dramatic context when expressed in English, thanks to 100 years of Anglo-American dominance in popular music and about 50 years of dominance in television and films.

Försök

Rydenhov, Robin January 2021 (has links)
The essay sheds light on relevant questions for a student at the Royal Institute of Art. The questions concern basic concepts in an artistic process during education with a focus on thinking as a central concept. Some of the questions in the essay are: what is idea and form? what is the relationship between idea and form? how does the artist manifest an idea in a form rather than creating a form that represents the idea? what distinguishes the manifestation from representation in an artistic context? what can different forms of language be used for or not used for in an artistic work? The essay is an attempt to answer this questions and to process what has been experienced from practical and theoretical artistic work and studies. The intention is to put the questions and answers in connection with other traditions of idea and thought than art and to present new ways of approaching these questions, rather than breaking down the questions and the essays topics into indivisible units. The approach to reach results and the method that is the basis of the essay, is my own artistic theoretical activity: my work with form in relation to studies in art theory, philosophy and fiction. The results show that the studies did not find any exhaustive answers to the questions, but rather that more unanswered questions were generated. The result is an analysis and dialectic that needs to be discussed further. Since the form of the studies is in written language a question has become relevant for further investigation: what meaning has the statements, the textual narratives that conceptualizes, makes it comprehensible and gives an work of art its meaning whose comprehensibility can not be found in the work of art? / 65 Inkjet prints in A4 dimension of the 33 pages from my master essay Försök and 32 photographs of texts from exhibitions and art institutions mounted on 19 sheets of plywood.

Skapa magi

Lötberg, Dana January 2017 (has links)

From Model to Module: A move towards generative choreography

Ölme, Rasmus January 2014 (has links)
The thesis engages in Choreography and Dance Technique by delineating the concepts and practices that the artistic research project MODUL has generated. A modular method of choreographing is articulated. The MODUL method of choreography starts by making a topographical movement analysis of the context that the work engages with. This analysis results in an identification of the different agencies at work within the context approached. They are considered as Choreographic Agents and as elements of the modular assemblage. The choreographic act then performed consists of a re-articulation of the relations between the different elements. The MODUL method links movement practice and art production as the topographical movement analysis is also applied to, and conceptualised through, the body. In terms of dance technique the MODUL method works with the same topographical movement analysis to explore bodily functionalities as Choreographic Agents. The technique is called Body-Self Attunement and aims at tuning the self, understood as the symbolic body, with the biological body. Body-Self Attunement does not try to unify the symbolic body and the biological body but affirms the gap as generative. The term Generative Choreography is coined in order to emphasise the performative aspect of choreography that is not defined by what it is, but what it does.

Seminariet som ateljé? : När forskning blir konst / The seminar as studio? : When research becomes art

Engqvist, Jonatan Habib January 2014 (has links)
As higher artistic education explicitly becomes prepatory for research, the next generation of artists will inevitably be affected. How this change will constitute itself and whether the effect will be a reaction against or a product of this change is impossible to know. It is however already clear that artistic research is moving from periphery to centre in the Scandinavian art scene. Thus this pilot study essay asks how one can understand the position of the artwork produced within the context of artistic research: Is it a process, a product, a trace – or a combination of these? Is it possible to map the various layers of meaning produced? What does it mean to claim that art ”produces knowledge”? The essay focuses on three recent PhD´s in artistic research from Sweden. Rather than addressing formal questions of what artistic research is, or how art and research intertwine with each other, the investigation attempts to focus on when artists are making art within the context of artistic research, when they are doing something else.

Journal - rekonstruktion av kropp och minne / Journal - reconstruction of body and memory

Wiklund, Jenny January 2017 (has links)
The project was developed in co-operation between Jenny Wiklund and KTH, Uppsala University Hospital, Uppsala University, Karolinska Institute, Royal Institute of Art, Aarhus School of Architecture, and curator Jan Åman. The project was developed sculpturally at the Royal Institute of Art. Preliminary studies of medicine were made at Karolinska University Hospital. The final study combines studies at Uppsala University Hospital of three-dimensional visualization of medical imaging with studies of clinical anatomy at Uppsala University, to be amalgamated to a sculptural interpretation and production. R1, the Reactor Hall, is staged as a site-specific monumental artistic work. The installation provides a temporary coat around the chapters of the dissertation exhibition, dealing with body and brain. The exhibition tells us about a specific moment, there is no memory, nor proprioception. There is no history, nor future. Through the exhibition an understanding of the connection between theoretical thinking and visual interpretation emerges. It is research by artistic and architectonic precision with references to art, architecture, medicine and medical technique. References come from concrete objects in concrete rooms, from specific artistic work of individual artists and from auscultating a number of expert presentations, where people by presence conveyed their knowledge. Architecture is a spatial construction of identity, here in the form of an exhibition as temporary visual spatial-aesthetic poetic theory. The form of the dissertation was chosen due to the main subject investigated, memory, and its temporary reshaping of the room at each specific point of time it is aroused. The visual impression come before all other descriptions, logical to the event that preceded the subject of the project, a loss of memory, when the experience of the room came before the language, the body before the brain, trained memories in the form of figures before an autobiography.

Bergström  , Inger January 2017 (has links)
This master's thesis has the form of a scientific essay. Its purpose is to try to make visible what a visually artistic process is, investigate how it may be described and in what way it is based on knowledge. The first part of the essay is based on a story in which an artistic process is described and the second part on interviews with three active artists. The story and the interviews together make up the empirical material of the investigation and based on this, different themes are reflected and discussed. A theoretical perspective here is the conceptual world of philosopher John Dewey, in which experience, action and doing are important aspects. The paper tries to break down expectations regarding what an artistic process is, such as a mere expression of personality or a direct expression of emotions. Instead, the artistic performance is brought forward as something which to a great extent is based on skill and acquired knowledge. The artistic process is described as having an elusive character and therefore the last part of the essay is also dedicated to discussing the relevance of the purpose. Here are presented phrasings by other artistic practitioners and researchers’ in regards to artistic processes. Questions are asked regarding what happens when knowledge concepts are used to describe an artistic process, and the relationship between the artistic practice and the textual is touched upon.

Hald, Niklas January 2015 (has links)
Summary This dissertation is about children’s theatre from the perspective of the professional actor. The main question is: Which are the challenges we actors face when performing for children and young people, and how do we relate to them? The research is based on a long personal experience of acting in theatre aimed at children from the age of three to eighteen years old. In addition to this I have also interviewed actors with similar and different experiences of the same specific age groups, in order to get a better understanding of my field of research. My main goal is to show the complexity of this specific field of acting. The text is essayistic in that it is using experiences as means for reflection. Here I reflect on and over specific events from my practice. These reflections are then set against the interviews and texts from different philosophical and theoretical perspectives, mainly phenomenological and hermeneutic. In the presentation of the challenges I have chosen to focus on the theatre performed in the schools and classrooms. They are divided in three categories; External circumstances, Relation to audience and Other challenges. / <p>Stockholms dramatiska högskola</p>

CHAIR BOX : Sittandet som aktivitet / CHAIR BOX : Sitting as an activity

Blücher, Emelie January 2017 (has links)
