Approche psychodynamique de la création de chanson(s) : au carrefour de la création artistique et de la création art-thérapeutique / Psychodynamic approach of songwriting : at the crossroads of artistic songwriting and therapeutic songwriting

Zimoch, Amélia 06 December 2013 (has links)
This thesis, based on a psychodynamic approach, will explore and ask the psychicprocesses involved in songwriting, through two different but complementary sections. On the one hand, through the exploration of the very act of creating by means of meeting singerssongwriters while trying to explain the creative process (theoretical-clinical research) ; on the other hand through the practice of weekly songwriting music therapy sessions with elderly people living in nursing home (practice research). This thesis is part of a global approach which works for a practical application of the researches in clinical psychology and art-psychotherapy domains. In reference to Grimbert (1996, 2002) and to the Skin-Ego theoretical-clinical model developed by Anzieu (1985), this research highlights the different uses of the Skin-Ego functions through artistic creation and art-therapeutic creation, and emphases the singular and intrinsic multidimensionality aspects of the song media. It brings also future prospects. In the research domain, it shows the needs to complement the dedicated songwriting theoretical corpus and in the clinical practical domain, it opens original and alternative possibilities of therapeutic way to care for the elderly people living in nursing home ; therapeutic songwriting being definitively one of them.

"Where is your song?" : exploring the use of songs in therapeutic conversations.

Evans, Claire Lisa 31 October 2004 (has links)
This study explored the interaction between persons and songs in therapy, and was described according to the ideas of Social Constructionism and the Narrative Approach (Freedman & Combs, 1996; Gergen, 1985, 1994; Hoyt, 1998). The meanings around songs and the therapist-client interaction were explored. A flowing process evolved that allowed for new ideas to become part of the therapeutic conversations (Anderson & Goolishian, 1988; Hoffman, 1994). The research was qualitative as befits the above-mentioned epistemology. Therapeutic conversations evolved with a single client, in which songs and music were used to explore her life story. An unstructured interview was conducted to explore the therapeutic process underlying the incorporation of songs in therapeutic conversations. The hermeneutic method of analysis was employed to identify themes and meanings that encompassed the research participant's life story as well as the therapeutic process in which songs were utilised to facilitate therapeutic dialogues. It was found that the themes elicited in this study reflected the themes discussed in the literature. The following themes underlying the therapeutic process of songs were identified: songs created an emotional release; they elicited memories, feelings and imagery; they facilitated relaxation, coloured relationships and provided a new skill. This exploration of the themes allowed for rich descriptions of the participant's story and the therapeutic conversations, to emerge. / Clinical psychology / M.A. (Clinical psychology)

Rust, Nolene 30 November 2007 (has links)
This study was aimed at exploring and describing the role of music as a medium in the Gestalt play therapy process with children who experience emotional distress and therefore suffer loss of healthy contact. The case study method was used as research strategy. A literature study of the Gestalt approach and Gestalt play therapy was carried out as well as a study of the child in middle childhood, the child experiencing emotional distress in the form of loss, and music as a medium. In implementing of this research study three case studies were described. The sampling method was based on a non-probability purposive sampling technique. The criteria for inclusion in this study were children who experience emotional distress in the form of loss and who, subsequently, do not make effective contact. Between seven and eight therapeutic sessions per child were conducted. The role of music was evident in all three cases. / SOCIAL WORK / MDIAC (PLAY THERAPY)

Music Therapist-Child Interaction for a Child Diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder with Applied Behavior Analysis Prompts and Fading Procedures

January 2013 (has links)
abstract: The purpose of this research study provided observational techniques and Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) prompts and fading procedures to analyze music therapist-child interaction for child with autism spectrum disorder. Impaired social interaction is the primary symptom of a child with autism spectrum disorder. However, social interaction exists everywhere and throughout human life. Therefore, to improve interaction is the primary and significant goal in music therapy treatment for a child with autism spectrum disorder. The music therapist designs a series of music therapy activity interventions in order to create a therapeutic environment, based on a child's interests and favorite activities. Additionally, the music therapist utilizes the music to build the quality of relationship and interaction with child and support child practicing interaction with the therapist. Then music therapist utilizes the process of interaction to improve child's social interaction. Once the child achieves at desired behavior, he/she has ability to apply the music therapy techniques independently in the real world situations, such as family and schools that the child has learned throughout the process of interaction with therapist. The participants were three children with autism spectrum disorder and two certified music therapists (MT-BC). The researcher calculated the number of prompts and cues which the therapists provided, and the number of appropriate responses by each child in each activity intervention. Then the researcher utilized Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA), prompt and fading procedure in order to analyze the progress of therapist-child interactions during the sessions. The result showed that the children had improvement in the interactions with their therapist. / Dissertation/Thesis / M.M. Music 2013

Considering the need for a multiprofissional action during palliative care, in the present study we seeked broader knowledge of home care music therapy for family caregivers of children under oncology palliative care in the late stages of the disease. The main goal was to know and analyze the sound and musical expressions of caregivers as well as understand the effects of music therapy on these subjects while caring for critically ill children. This is a qualitative research, presented as a study case. Data were collected by the researcher, who is a music therapist, through recordings and transcriptions of the music therapy sessions, which took place in the houses of caregivers of two children undergoing treatment in an oncology hospital in the municipality of Goiânia, GO. In data analysis, the expressions of the subjects were taken into consideration. To accomplish this, the theoretical reference and the analysis of the music therapy were crossed. Based on this study, we observed that music therapy alleviated caregivers’ anguish because it enabled the expression, through musical re-creation, of songs brought by them, and allowed the experience of playful situations together with their children.

It is a right of Brazilian citizens guaranteed by the Constitution of 1988. The participation of the music therapist, as a professional also active in public policy, boosted this study, where it aimed to understand the process of integration and performance of music therapist in PNAS, seeking approaches to Social Music Therapy and Community Music Therapy. This is an exploratory and descriptive research with a qualitative approach. The project was approved by the Research School of Music and Performing Arts of the Federal University of Goiás - EMAC / UFG, subsequently approved by the Research Ethics Committee - CEP / UFG, with the number 926,839. By applying the inclusion and exclusion criteria, the screening of participants was made by the State of Music Therapy States Associations and by indications. It were participants of this research were music therapists who work with Social Assistance. The data were collected through face / virtual semi-structured interviews recorded in audio, in the total number of ten participants. The analysis of the interviews were conducted using the content analysis methodology proposed by Bardin (1977), through the categorical analysis technique, with the help of ATLAS.ti software. The results of the interviews show that the performance of music therapy occurs in all SUAS protection levels, being held in social assistance services and space management and social control. The insertion of the music therapist is still precarious, requiring more effectuation by public tender and the fulfillment of what advocates the Basic Operational Norm of Human Resources - NOB-RH / SUAS for recovery workers. The music therapy practice is developed with reference in the fundaments of music therapy and the musical experiences described by Bruscia (2000). From the analysis and forward discussions the speeches of music therapists in the study is apprehended that the professional who works in SUAS, and be flexible and tolerant, must continually develop your clinical musicality and ability to work with groups, in addition to knowing the legislation advocated by PNAS. Although the history of music therapy in social assistance is considered a recent achievement, the present study demonstrated that their integration and performance have reached the main performance spaces of social welfare policy, where music has been used in equipment / spaces host and listening as instrument of social transformation and reflection / reinterpretation of life stories. It was concluded that the work being developed by music therapists in the SUAS has as references both Social Music Therapy as Community Music Therapy and is still an ongoing process.

Musicking through transition : first-year international students' experiences of creative improvisation in group music therapy sessions

Tiran, Ilse 05 November 2012 (has links)
This qualitative study explores the experiences of creative improvisation in music therapy sessions of a group of 12 first-year international students. The students took part in a group music therapy process which consisted of eight sessions. Music therapy is explored as a possible approach for offering first-year international students valuable social, emotional and psychological support in light of literature findings that note the continuous struggles faced by international students in their transition to university. Data collection was in the form of a focus group interview, which was conducted after the final session, and two video excerpts from different sessions within the process. I drew on these data sources to explore how music is used as a medium for expressing and sharing first-year experiences, and how the group music therapy sessions afford students opportunities for the development of mutually supportive relationships. Data were coded, then categorised and in this process, themes emerged. The emergent themes suggest that creative improvisation in group music therapy sessions facilitates moving from disconnection to building more friendships and deeper relationships; creates a platform for increasing openness towards exploring, expressing and sharing experiences and emotions concerning being a first-year international student; and how music as an alternative medium to verbal and/or other expression for expressing and interacting, allows for this expression of emotions and experiences, and connection in the group. The findings indicate that it was in expressing and sharing their experiences with one another through musicking that students were able to develop mutually supportive relationships. Du son… Des sens : évaluation clinique des processus de symbolisation dans un groupe thérapeutique à médiation sonore et musicale en psychiatrie adulte / Sound and senses : a clinical evaluation of symbolisation processes in a therapeutic group with sound and musical mediation in adult psychiatry

Falquet Clin, Christine 18 November 2017 (has links)
A qualitative research from the study of a group case retraces clinical work as it « is being done » in a plan of analytic group music therapy, on the « ordinary » ground of a day-hospital that treats adult subjects suffering from invalidating psychiatric troubles. Several voices, be they psychoanalytical, musicological, or philosophical, offer a conceptual framework with which to interrogate the encounter and the play with sounds within the group, and the way in which this play contributes to the restoration of the primary symbolisation processes that are particularly impaired for the subjects we treat. In the framework that opens a potential for multidirectional transfers and for associativity in a plurality of language, the elements gathered while observing the group’s clinical thought processes are the basis of a model of evaluation, in the sense of value extraction and of symbolisation play. From the materiality of music and sound, which calls to senso-affectivo-motricity, to the potential senses of wording, a moving process of shaping and staging develops within the group and the subjects that form the group. This process opens up on the building of the psychic reflexivity that lies at the heart of symbolisation processes and of processes through which the subjects seize experience, the latter having hitherto remained unthinkable, unfigurable and unrepresentable.
