In the theoretical background was covered the concepts of behavioral finance and indebtedness, which are essential to comprehension of meaning of money concept. It was utilized the technic of cluster analyses and descriptive statistics to identify the academics profiles, and was used factor analyses and multiple linear regression, to verify the meaning of money, and the attitude to indebtedness and its influence, respectively. Finally, it was utilized the Wilcoxon test to verify the differences in the attitude to indebtedness. The sample was composed by 561 academics, in which 341 are entering students and 220 are senior students. After the tests, it was possible to determine that the first year academics profile was formed by two clusters, the first cluster depicts older academics, which have debts and those were delayed, and the main debt was related to the credit card. The second cluster formation covered younger academics, which do not have debts and mostly don’t use credit card. The fourth year academics profile also was formed by two clusters. The first of them was composed by younger academics, which don’t have children, spend a large part of the income with personal spending and don’t have debts. The second cluster was formed by older academics, which have children and dependents, dedicate a large part of the budget to householding spending, more than half have some sort of debts, in which the main debt was the real state financing. In the Meaning of Money Scale (MMS) were obtained ten factors for the first year academics: power; conflict; happiness; culture; spirituality; neurosis; detachment; suffering; interest and stability. In relation to Attitude to Indebtedness Scale, were obtained two factors: payment preference and domain. The meaning of money influence on Payment Preference, for the first year academics, obtained the following significant factors: Suffering, Culture and Happiness, where Culture had negative influence. And for Domain, were found Conflict and Spirituality with positive influence. As for the fourth year academics, only one variable had influence on Payment Preference factor, which was Spirituality, with positive influence. The Domain factor was determined by Falsity, Conflict and Happiness variables, with positive influence. Were not identified difference between the first and fourth years academics in relation to the attitude to indebtedness, in other words, the first year academics attitudes will be the same when they reach the fourth year. It is highlighted the importance of financial education since the initial years of the formal education. In short, it is believed that money have meanings, which goes far beyond the exchange, having cultural and social values.

José Carlos Carreira 05 March 2009 (has links)
This paper have had as main objective understand the tension between to keep or to move the brand positioning according to the probable changes in the social context. In the marketing administration world is current to keep the main concept in the positioning in order to show consistency in all marketing messages. However, is possible to see that constantly and fast changes have been challenging the brand manager to understand the meanings dynamism that act in the market, and how can it influence the brand image. The methodology used to verify the dynamics of the brand positioning in the communication process was the semiotic analysis of the EcoSport advertising campaign, since its launch till its last face-lift in 2007. The reason to choose an automobile as the object to verify the brand positioning dynamics was due the communication complexity as well as to the environmental conflicts that this merchandise has been suffering lately. The results confirm the necessity that brand positioning main concepts has to be up-dated frequently, following the changes in the social context. However, these changes have some limits. The changes are limited by the boundaries of the Jean-Marie Floch consumption valorized square. During this research, once more, could be demonstrated the semiotic contribution for the brand manager.

[en] TELLING STORIES: SELF-PRESENTATION IN POLITICAL DISCOURSE / [pt] CONTANDO HISTÓRIAS: A CONSTRUÇÃO DE IDENTIDADES EM DISCURSO POLÍTICO

MARCIA VIEIRA FRIAS 02 June 2008 (has links)
[en] This work is intended as a contribution to the understanding of the contemporary Brazilian political scene: it integrates Socio-interactional Narrative Analysis with political discourse aiming to offer a linguist`s perspective on president Lula`s continued popularity. Personal stories embedded in six speeches delivered by the president between April 2006 and March 2007 form the corpus of this analysis. Freely based on Labov`s narrative model and on Linde´s notion of life story, and also resorting to the notion of frame as per Bateson and Goffman, and to Goffman`s footing, the analysis identifies several self- presentations constructed and displayed by president Lula through those personal stories: Northeastern migrant, blue collar worker, union leader, father and president. By showing how these identities are narratively constructed, the analysis emphasizes projected character traits and singularities of meaning and indicates, in relation to the different audiences of the president´s speeches, how these meanings and identities can obtain alignments and function as a pre-condition for achieving persuasion, the basic objective of political discourse in general.

Breaking maxims in conversation : A comparative study of how scriptwriters break maxims in Desperate Housewives and That 70’s Show

Dornerus, Emma January 2006 (has links)
When we converse we constantly fail to observe the rules of conversation in order to simplify and make dialogues more effective. The scriptwriters who work with TV shows use non-observances of maxims in order to evoke different feelings from their viewers. The aim of this paper was to investigate how frequently non-observances of maxims occurred in the TV shows Desperate Housewives and That 70’s Show. I examined where and why they were used as well as how often flouting was used compared to violations. The base of the study was a drama and a comedy show. Research has shown that the maxim of relevance is most frequently used to create different comical or dramatic situations. The scriptwriters have their characters ignore what is relevant to the situations in order to make them come off as flustered, odd and stupid in humorous situations and as mysterious, cowardly, respectful or bold in dramatic situations. Also research shows that flouting occurs more frequently than violations when it comes to breaking maxims. Violations occur most often with the maxim of quality when the characters lie to mislead in order to direct blame away from him/herself. In Conclusion, this investigation has shown that non-observances of maxims are important for scriptwriters in order to create humorous and dramatic situations in verbal interaction.

PSYCHOSOCIAL- AND MEANING-MAKING FUNCTIONS OF PRAYER IN THE EVERYDAY LIFE OF MUSLIMS IN SWEDEN : – A study in the field of psychology of religion.

Langby, Martin January 2017 (has links)
In the psychology of religion, prayer is one area which has received relatively small attention in the past. In the case of Muslim prayer, with a few exceptions, the field is yet to be explored. This convergent parallel mixed-methods study examined the relationship of Muslim prayer acts and perceived psychosocial functions and meaning-making functions. The data was gathered using semi-constructed interviews as well as standardized instruments: Brief RCOPE, Sense of Coherence (SoC) and CD-RISC 2 resilience scale. The participants consisted of twelve males and four females currently residing in the central parts of Sweden. Focus was placed on the five daily prayers (Ṣalāt), the supplication prayer (Duʿāʾ) as well as the constant reminder of God (Dhikr). The theoretical parts focused mainly on meaning-making, coping, and ritual theory. The research question of this study was: “What role or roles do Muslim rituals, with a focus on prayer, have in the psychosocial functions and meaning-making functions in everyday life?”. For the Brief RCOPE questionnaire, the results included relatively high scores for positive coping and relatively low scores for negative coping (Positive Coping max: 28,00; min: 20,00; average: 23,75; range: 8,00. Negative Coping max: 15,00; min: 7,00, average: 10,19; range: 8,00. Religious coping on a general level max: 1,00; min 2,00, average: 1,06; range: 1,00). For the Sense of Coherence (SoC) scale, the results included different scores, in total medium to low (max: 75,00; min: 44,00; average: 56,00; range: 31,00). In the case of CD-RISC 2 resilience scale, the results were diverse with both high and low scores (max: 8,00; min: 3,00; average: 5,56; range: 5,00). From the interviews, several findings emerged including the centrality of prayer in the informant’s lives. Meaning-making emerged as a central part concerning all forms of prayer. The Muslim identity was also seen as absolutely central in their life. When performing prayers in line with the informants’ own theological understanding, this produced very positive feelings. When not performing the prayers, this resulted in negative feelings and anxiety. The latter also related to a more or less constant stress of not being a good enough Muslim and therefore ending up in Hell after death for most of the informants. The religious community was seen as very positive since many of the informants struggled with what they thought of as Un-Islamic values and behaviors present in the surrounding society.

Musiken, skolan och barnet : Elevers uppfattningar om ämnet musik och sitt musikintresse i årskurs 6 / Music, school and the child : Pupils' perceptions about the subject of music and their music interests in grade 6

Bengtsson, Johan January 2018 (has links)
This qualitative study encompasses a study of pupils' perceptions about the subject of music as well as the importance and everyday importance of the subject of music for pupils outside of school. The study has a phenomenological approach based on describing the breadth and variety of perceptions of the subject of music. Qualitative semistructured interviews form an empirical basis for analysis. The result is based on concepts such as meanings, perceptions of music as a school subject and everyday life. Variations appear that a student is stimulated at school to start musicing more outside of  school and that the interviewed pupils have different views about the music as a subject in school. The result also shows how the students who play any instrument during their spare time, also have parents who play music in any form. On the other hand, the results show that those who do not play any instrument in their spare time have parents who do not. Finally, the result showed that all interviewed students in some form use music in any social context, musicing with the family or just listening to music together with friends.

Conceptual Construction through Contextual Modulation : A Case Study of Happiness and Happy

Golriz, Ali January 2010 (has links)
This is a study of the emotion terms happy and happiness conducted in order to identify the possible grounds in which these notions are perceived by the British English speaking speech community and how people use these terms according to their conceptual frameworks. Basically, it is supposed that the terms happy and happiness are very close in their meanings and they imply more or less the same sense from different angles. This prediction, however, is only partly true. Through this study it is found that there is not as much overlap in the meaning of happy and happiness as one would expect.
