Project Management Competence and Complexity in Projects : Impact study of performance of mega engineering projects in PakistanUsman, Muhammad January 2018 (has links)
The aim of this research is to test the effect of different project complexities and project management competence of project managers in public sector mega engineering projects of Pakistan and their effect on project performance. This research study is applied in Pakistan. Complexities in a project are inevitable. These cannot be controlled or eliminated but one can have their better understanding to counter them resulting in better project performance. Quantitative research techniques have been applied for this particular research study. A total of 100 questionnaires were handed out among respondents, of which 82 survey questionnaires were useful for further analysis. Hypotheses have been developed to test the effect of variables of project management competence on project performance and subsequently the effect of Technical, Organizational and environmental complexity on project performance. Results show that project management competence have a positive effect on project performance, like leadership, management skills, communication, ethics, honesty have a strong impact on project performance. Secondly, Technical and organizational complexity have a negative effect on project performance whereas hypothesis of environmental complexity has not supported the project performance. Further, a number of complexities were high ranked. For instance, goals, tasks and market conditions were ranked very high with respect to their impact on project performance. This study contributes theoretically in the field of project management and on practical level study will not only help the Practioners in the field of PM, but also helpful for project managers of mega engineering projects. On societal level this study may help the Government intuitions in formulating rules and regulations such as PM certifications that can improve the project performance.

Stora sportevenemang i mindre städer : En kvantitativ studie om platsmarknadsföring och kunskap-attityd hos invånare vid större sportevenemangEklöf, Rebeca, Jansson, Elin January 2018 (has links)
Cities hosting huge sporting events is a growing industry and is a way to market the city towards the rest of the world. The goal is for businesses to make profit, attract tourist and be seen on the global market. However, as its marketed towards external audiences, the locals and how they are affected are usually forgotten in the process. The purpose of this paper was to study the knowledge and what attitudes individuals living in Halmstad, Sweden, possess regarding the World Table Tennis Championship 2018, as well as how they received information regarding the event. To find the answers to our questions we handed out surveys in central Halmstad during the period the event took place. We compared our results with how they're tied to theories regarding place branding, image-identity-reputation and the knowledge-attitude-behavior model. The main findings of our analysis were that our respondents of Halmstad county was well- informed about the event and did not feel like they needed more information. The majority viewed the event in a positive light, and overall people found the event to be important for Halmstad as a city and destination.

The right to freedom of expression is guaranteed by the Brazilian Constitution of 1988, and can be practiced by many different ways. Between june of 2013 and july of 2014, this right was practiced by millions of Brazilians, that went to the street to protest against the precariousness of public health and education, corruption, the increase in the bus pass and also against excessive expenses for the realization of the World Cup. The social manifestations happened in the same time that two sportive mega events were realized in the country: The Confederations Cup, in 2013, and The World Cup, in 2014. The object of this research is to verify if two newspapers, Folha de S. Paulo and O Globo, that noticed the social manifestations, treated them as an exercise of the right to freedom of expression, or criminalized the protest. To meet the goals, it will be used the methodology of content analysis. The hypothesis is that the newspapers dealt with the issue in a superficial and negative way. Megaeventos e direito à moradia: como opera o empreendedorismo urbano no contexto do neodesenvolvimentismo. O caso do Parque Olímpico no Rio de Janeiro / Mega-events and the right to housing: how the urban entrepreneurialism operates in the context of neo-developmentism. The case of the Olympic Park in Rio de JaneiroMariana Gomes Peixoto Medeiros 23 September 2014 (has links)
This research aims to investigate an ongoing process, where the strategy of entrepreneurship in the management of urban public policy has been adapting and conforming to the current context of economic policy called the neo-developmentism. Thus, the role of public-private partnerships stands as fundamental in the management of urban development within the three spheres of power. Discuss, therefore, the history of political reforms in the country that led to the adaptation of national developmentalism to the new developmentalism policy, to understand the context in which thec urrent public-private partnerships have been developed as a model for managing the territory. Also mention the legislation and discourses behind the defense of this kind of deal between the government and the private sector. Still, as the country faced a crisis in 2008, called the crisis of crises, using this model of land management. The megasporting events will be analyzed as strong attractives of investmentand business to the cities. In Rio de Janeiro, with the choice of city to host the Olympic Games, and also being one of the host cities of the FIFA World Cup in 2014, several of territorial transformations began. In addition to evidence that a series of violations were to come in order to make room and expand the market for private investments. The Olympic Park, the main site of the 2016 Olympics competitions, appears as an immense business opportunity with private enterprise, locatedon a broad expansion of the real estate market in the city: Barra da Tijuca. Thus many poor communities have suffered from the policy of forced displacement to make way for investments in theterritory. In this context, is the Vila Autódromo community, well established local side of the venture. The removal of this community is planned in the feasibility study and in de concession contract. Therefore, we will study the public-private partnership held for the construction of the Olympic Park, through the analysis of documents related to the bidding process and the selection of the winning consortium. Yet, as this project has impacted the case of Vila Autódromo community, which in addition to having been the target of other attempts of eviction, was subject to a policy of land regularization in the past and has a strong history of resistance and struggle for permanence.

Matsinhe, Leví Salomão January 2011 (has links)
The trantion from socialism to capitalism characterized the Mozambican trajectory after its independence, held in 1975. This transition gave place to external aid by Bretton Woods (World Bank and International Monetary Fund) and direct investments from multinational corporations mega-projects in special economic free zones. The alliance between the national elite with foreign capital brought corruption, transference of profits from the multinational corporations in Mozambique to its countries of origin. Because of this, the external aid and foreign investments did not develop the Mozambican economy and also did not bring the social well being to the people in Mozambique. This research, identified the structural adjustment, external aid, corruption and special economic free zones as the factories of poverty in Mozambique, and concluded that Mozambique will never reduce poverty looking to external aid, mega-projects, direct foreign investments and special economic free zones. What where thought it was an elixir (mega-projects, external aid, foreign direct investments and special economic free zones) became an obstacle to development.

Oriented by the organization of city administration from entrepreneurial characteristics, municipal management has fostered the development of infrastructure projects able to meet the requirements of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) for the Games. Among them is Porto Maravilha, concession project to the private sector of the port area of the city, which holds great historical and cultural background in the formation of Rio.
Thus, this work aims to understand if the development and execution process of Porto Maravilha matches the legacy speech promised by the government to all residents of the port area. Based on six years of news analysis from O Globo newspaper, this research seeks to understand what city image is possible to learn from the representations brought by the journal.

Molecular markers of gliomas : implications for diagnosis and new target therapies / Les marqueurs moléculaires de gliomes : implications pour diagnostics et nouvelles thérapies ciblesDi Stefano, Anna Luisa 21 February 2017 (has links)
This work is devoted to the characterization of a specific oncogenic fusion between FGFR and TACC genes in gliomas. Overall, we screened 907 gliomas for FGFR3-TACC3 fusions. We found that FGFR3-TACC3 fusions exclusively affect IDH wild-type gliomas (3%), and are mutually exclusive with the EGFR amplification and the EGFR vIII variant, whereas it co-occurs with CDK4 amplification, MDM2 amplification and 10q loss. FGFR3–TACC3 fusions were associated with strong and homogeneous FGFR3 immunostaining. We show that FGFR3 immunostaining is a sensitive predictor of the presence of FGFR3-TACC3 fusions. FGFR3-TACC3 glioma patients had a longer overall survival than those patients with IDH wild-type glioma. We treated two patients with FGFR3–TACC3 rearrangements with a specific FGFR-TK inhibitor and we observed a clinical improvement in both and a minor response in one patient. In the second section, we developed a non-invasive diagnostic tool by 1H-magnetic resonance spectroscopy in IDH mutant gliomas. We optimized a uniquely different spectroscopy sequence called MEGA-PRESS for the detection of the oncometabolite 2-hydroxyglutarate (2 HG) that specifically accumulates in IDH mutant gliomas. We analysed a prospective cohort of 25 patients before surgery for suspected grade II and grade III gliomas and we assessed specificity and sensitivity, correlation with 2 HG concentrations in the tumor and associations with grade and genomic background. We found that MEGA-PRESS is highly specific (100%) and sensitive (80%) for the prediction of IDH mutation and correlated with 2 HG levels measured by gas chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (GC-MS/MS) in frozen tissue.
