Sportovní sebevědomí a jeho role ve sportovním výkonu / Sport confidence and its role in sports performance

Tesařová, Monica January 2019 (has links)
The main goal of the thesis is to build upon the existing research literature and to explore the relationship of sport confidence and sports performance, among which a positive correlation is often found. The theoretical part summarizes the present findings regarding this connection, as well as how sport confidence generally works, what constructs it relates to, or how it is measured. In the empirical part, quantitative research on a sample of Sri Lankan swimmers between 17 and 19, executed using the Sport-Confidence Inventory (SCI; Vealey, Knight, 2002), is then presented. Its results showed that participants scoring high at least in one of the three SCI subscales were performing better, regardless of how well the other components were developed, as opposed to participants whose scores were moderate in all the three subscales. The results also pointed to significant differences between the genders, where it showed that men generally scored higher on the level of sport confidence. Series of recommendations for trainers and psychologists working with athletes, but also for potential follow-up studies, can be drawn from the outcomes. Keywords: sport-confidence, multidimensionality of confidence, performance prediction, competitive swimming, SCI

Vico Ramírez, Alicia 07 1900 (has links)
This thesis proposes a model to represent theoretical and practical concepts of terminology as well as their terminological relationships in the form of a thesaurus. According to the ISO 25964-1:2011 standard, “a thesaurus is a controlled and structured vocabulary in which concepts are represented by terms that have been previously arranged in order to show explicitly the relations among concepts (…)”. Our objective is to create a pedagogical tool that is grounded in a theoretical reflection about different theoretical perspectives within this discipline. The issues associated with the classification of concepts in certain fields of knowledge (especially those with different perspectives) require further study in the field of terminology and information science, and in the literature relating to thesauri. Indeed, how does one describe concepts that are subject to theoretical dissent and different schools of thought? How can the different relationships between theoretical concepts and practical applications of a discipline be classified? To these questions is added the additional challenge of reflecting these difficulties in a thesaurus. Our first step consists in delimiting and organizing the main concepts of the field. Then, by means of a corpus containing different publications associated with different approaches in terminology, we study the linguistic realizations of those concepts and their relationships in context, with the objective of describing, classifying and defining them. We then encode this data using thesaurus management software that respects the relevant ISO standards. Finally, we produce visualizations of this data to make it more user friendly and understandable. To conclude, we present the fundamental characteristics of the Thésaurus de la terminologie. We have analyzed and presented a sample of 45 concepts and their related terms. Different phenomena related to these descriptors, such as multidimensionality, conceptual variation and denominative variation, are also represented in our thesaurus.

Mixed-format test score equating: effect of item-type multidimensionality, length and composition of common-item set, and group ability difference

Wang, Wei 01 December 2013 (has links)
Mixed-format tests containing both multiple-choice (MC) items and constructed-response (CR) items are now widely used in many testing programs. Mixed-format tests often are considered to be superior to tests containing only MC items although the use of multiple item formats leads to measurement challenges in the context of equating conducted under the common-item nonequivalent groups design (CINEG). The purpose of this dissertation was to investigate how various test characteristics and examinee characteristics influence CINEG mixed-format test score equating results. Simulated data were used in this dissertation. Simulees' item responses were generated using items selected from one MC item pool and one CR item pool which were constructed based on the College Board Advanced Placement examinations from various subject areas. Five main factors were investigated in this dissertation, including item-type dimensionality, group ability difference, within group ability difference, length and composition of the common-item set, and format representativeness of the common-item set. In addition, the performance of two equating methods, the presmoothed frequency estimation method (PreSm_FE) and the presmoothed chained equipercentile equating method (PreSm_CE), was compared under various conditions. To evaluate equating results, both conditional statistics and overall summary statistics were considered: absolute bias, standard error of equating, and root mean squared error. The difference that matters (DTM) also was used as a criterion for evaluating whether adequate equating results were obtained. The main findings based on the simulation studies are as follows: (1) For most situations, item-type multidimensionality did not have substantial impact on random error, regardless of the common-item set. However, its influence on bias depended on the composition of common-item sets; (2) Both the group ability difference factor and the within group ability difference factor had no substantial influence on random error. When group ability differences were simulated, the common-item set with more items or more total score points had less equating error. When a within group ability difference existed, conditions in which there was a balance of different item formats in the common-item set displayed more accurate equating results than did unbalanced common-item sets. (3) The relative performance of common-item sets with various lengths and compositions was dependent on the levels of group ability difference, within group ability difference, and test dimensionality. (4) The common-item set containing only MC items performed similarly to the common-item set with both item formats when the test forms were unidimensional and no within group ability difference existed or when groups of examinees did not differ in proficiency. (5) The PreSm_FE method was more sensitive to group ability difference than the PreSm_CE method. When the within group ability difference was non-zero, the relative performance of the two methods depended on the length and composition of the common-item set. The two methods performed almost the same in terms of random error. The studies conducted in this dissertation suggest that when equating multidimensional mixed-format test forms in practice, if groups of examinees differ substantially in overall proficiency, inclusion of both item formats should be considered for the common-item set. When within group ability differences are likely to exist, balancing different item formats in the common-item set appears to be even more important than the use of a larger number of common items for obtaining accurate equating results. Because only simulation studies were conducted in this dissertation, caution should be exercised when generalizing the conclusions to practical situations.

In this context, the thesis proposes stretching the disciplinarity of the Law, unfolding the Legal Science to a more thorough perception of the human condition, encompassing the individual, social, anthropolitical and anthropoetical dimensions. It is not about, however, resorting to an abstract idea, but rather undertaking the construction of the concrete universality of such understanding, which translates into contextualizing the face of a planetary identity of the man, also taking into account its triunic nature which encompasses the dialogical and complementary relations amongst individual, society and species / A tese discute e problematiza o Princ?pio da Dignidade Humana em sua multidimensionalidade, de forma n?o exclusivamente individual e antropoc?ntrica, mas intersubjetiva e planet?ria, o que significa dizer que tal compreens?o transcende propriamente o humano, para contemplar a dignidade de um sujeito implicado no mundo.

Connections in High School Writers: Affective Connections as a Writing Self-Efficacy Dimension

Johnson, Sarah Kate 22 May 2020 (has links)
While scholars of writing self-efficacy (WSE) have long explored self-efficacy as multidimensional, not every crucial dimension of self-efficacy has been explored (Walker; Zumbrunn et al.; Bruning and Kauffman). Recently, scholars have called for new WSE dimensions so that scholars can better examine the contextual and relational factors of self-efficacy (Usher and Pajares 786). My thesis is one answer to this call. Using ideas from contemporary affect theory and data from an IRB-approved study on thirteen high school seniors in a language arts class, I theorize and explore a new dimension of WSE that I call affective connections. Affective connections are connections both intentional and unintentional between bodies/objects that to varying degrees stick to and influence other bodies/objects. By analyzing the study’s ethnographic data, I found that affective connections are a helpful dimension for exploring how relationships and contexts influence self-efficacy. In two particular types of affective connections—student connections to assignments and student connections to teachers—intense connections often, but not always, indicated high self-efficacy to complete tasks and skills successfully, present and generate ideas, and self-regulate. More intense connections also usually indicated less student apathy about self-efficacy tasks or skills. Yet affective connections also complicate self-efficacy. Strong connections are not inherently positive, and affective connections ultimately reveal the ever-shifting and sometimes contradictory nature of WSE. My study indicates that affective connections are an exciting, likely widely applicable dimension of self-efficacy that may bolster scholars’ understanding of self-efficacy as a highly relational and contextual concept.

Multidimensional sustainability labels in the Swedish food sector : A study on consumer perception / Flerdimensionella hållbarhetsmärkningar i den svenska livsmedelsindustrin : En studie om kunduppfattning

Stenberg Forsberg, Ida, Nordström, Carolina January 2020 (has links)
Sustainability labels play an important role as information providers in the food sector. They serve consumers with information regarding a product’s sustainability performance and shows whether the product is compliant with certain rules and regulations. Consumers of today do however find it difficult to orient among the multitude of label alternatives and there are difficulties knowing exactly what the labels stand for. Additionally, the complex concept of sustainability is not fully portrayed through existing labels, as they communicate a one-dimensional viewpoint and lack transparency regarding its sustainability assessment criteria of the product. This lack of transparency creates information asymmetry between consumers and producers, which in turn prevents consumers from making an informed choice. To decrease the prevailing information asymmetry, multidimensional sustainability labels can be an alternative. This since they communicate multiple dimensions of sustainability in a simplified and objective manner. The main aim of the study is to examine whether different consumer attributes correlate with the perception of a multidimensional label. Further, the study aims to evaluate a multidimensional label’s potential to decrease the information asymmetry within the food sector. This was investigated through an online survey with 879 respondents. The results showed that (i) the only customer attribute that correlates with the perception of a multidimensional label is the respondent’s sustainability profile, (ii) the multidimensional label is considered necessary and complementary to existing labels as it clarifies a product’s sustainability performance, and (iii) further research is needed, e.g. regarding what design is easiest to comprehend, to successfully introduce it to the food sector.

Särnqvist, Zakharias January 2023 (has links)
This study looks at the roles and functions of heraldry in two parish churches in medieval Sweden. The study does this by hermeneutically relating the extant heraldic inventories of the churches to their historical contexts, specifically the view of the church as a multidimensional space and the understanding of the church as part of a constructed social landscape. Furthermore, the study aims to determine the relationship between heraldic art in churches and the legal relationship between that church and the armiger. These legal relationships include that of a bishop to his canon collegiate, the king to the church, and the patronus to his church. Lastly the study also attempts to determine the extent of the liturgical role of heraldry in these two churches by relating the extant heraldic inventories of the churches to the local liturgy of the early 16th century. The results show that heraldry has been used to legitimise power and give a sense of continuity in the transfer of power over the churches. The heraldry has also been found to express piety by allowing the armiger to be heraldically present within the chancel and in liturgical connection to the Eucharist. The study makes no explicit link between any form of heraldry in the church and any particular legal relationship to said church, but maintains that the award of patronage over a church and of having heraldic presence in a church both stem from donations to the church and its works. The study links the liturgical role of heraldry in the burial rite of a knight with St. Briget of Sweden’s view of the knights shield as a symbol for their vow to protect the church and her ideals. The subsequent tradition of mounting a deceased knight’s shield in the church is then interpreted as a continual sign of that vow and of the knight’s continued heraldic presence withing the parish. The presence of arma Christi within the extant heraldic inventories can be interpreted as a manifestation of the ideals of the church, while other coats of arms are subservient to that of the Christ. Arma Christi furthermore serve to legitimise heraldic presence as mystical presence in a way similar to liturgical icons.

Specifically, with the intention to propose defining criteria of the cited genre, this research looks for to establish differences and similarities between the assay and other genres of the same sphere, from the description and interpretation of used multimodal resources. The analysis of the formal, schematical and rhetorical resources identified in the formatting of the journalistic assay sample that the analyses are supported in the socio-semiotic and socio-rhetorical approaches. In the formal dimension, we contemplate elements that constitute design of the text, including the forms of representation from the typography, the colors, images, as well as the aspects communicative-linguistics: the modalization indices, the communicative operators and the category time; in the schematical dimension, we present the organizational structure, considering the rhetorical movements postulates for Swales (1990) and in the rhetorical dimension we observe the categories: who writes, for who it writes, on what it writes and where writes. The adopted methodologicals postulates are of qualitative nature and the procedure is documentary, data that in we are valid them written texts of this genre as analysis object. Corpus it is constituted by a composed sample for 14 extracted texts of a set of 173 propagated journalistic assays weekly for the magazine Veja, in the period between August of 2004 and January of 2008. The analysis of the data showed that the journalistic assay, object of this study, materializes through multiple symbolic representations and multiple subjects that turn since a small episode of the daily facts of great social relevance in the present time, of historical and cultural nature, nationwide or international. Used for the first time by Montaigne in 1580, to assign, in saying of the proper author, written fast on its life and historical events, which could nor be remembered later , the term `assay' was enriched with other specifications, of form to enclose the one that if they call scientific assay today, academic assay, journalistic assay and other types of specific assays. These denominations have to see with the enrollment of the members of diverse of practices communities, in virtue of the multiplicity of activities carried through in these spheres. The conclusions the one that we arrive had been the following ones: 1. the discursive genre is not a pure entity, in virtue of the multiplicity of situations where the sorts if insert in the social actions; 2. the institutions define the configuration of one definitive genre, also its proper assignment, since for backwards of all discursive genre a voice exists to discipline - institutional voice, and in the case of the assays for analyzed us, the institutional voice if it presents, really, as a defining trace; 3. the journalistic assay, for its multiple symbolic representations, multiple subjects and for passing explicit or implicit opinions of its author, resembles it other genres, being able, therefore, to be inserted in a colony of opinionatives genres / Este trabalho tem como objetivo geral fazer uma an?lise multidimensional no g?nero ensaio jornal?stico, g?nero discursivo que, al?m de complexo e multimodal, apresenta caracter?sticas h?bridas.

This study aimed to develop a methodology for social diagnosis in order to assist in the identification and ordering of regions in terms of the degree of social vulnerability. For this was discussed the concept of social vulnerability (Kaztman and FILGUEIRA, 2006) and the relationship of its theoretical formulation with ideological shifts in economic thinking. For such a historical analysis of development thinking, Cepal theories, especially theories of Celso Furtado, and on the evolution of poverty and misery in Brazil was performed. A study on the Interaction between Liturgy and Church Architecture in Ärentuna church

Karlsson, Cecilia January 2023 (has links)
The aim of this study is to examine intangible aspects of medieval church architecture from an art historical perspective, by using the theoretical frameworks of  the theologist Alf Härdelin’s theory on multidimensionality and the philosopher of languages  John Langshaw Austin’s theory on speech acts and performativity. It studies the relationship between church architecture and liturgy during the 15th century. This case study’s main material is the Upland parish church Ärentuna and the liturgical sources Missale Upsalense novum (1513) and the devotional book Siælinna thrøst (15th century). The interior of the church has been examined to understand how the church interior may have been furnished during the 15th century.  During the 15th century the church had many more altars and devotion pictures than what one can see in the current furnishings of the church. There is a narratological succession in the construction of the building, as well as the iconographical motifs, from West to East, thus the meaning of it becomes increasingly sacred. In that way, the construction of the building, as well as the wall paintings converses, with the liturgy – which has its core in the choir. When laypeople entered the sacred space of the church, they perceived things in a specific order, which creates a sense of order and cohesion within the liturgy. The study found that liturgy produces meaning in the church architecture by giving a visual expression to faith through images. Through performative speech acts found in the liturgy, a multidimensional experience is created by the (theological) fact of Christ's presence in the church. The nave's paintings enhance the visitor’s experience of the church interior as an eternal heavenly presence with motifs such as the Seven days of Creation, the Ten Commandments, the Passion of Christ and finally the Last Judgment.
