Persson, Cornelia, Nilsson, Sabina January 2017 (has links)
Marketing is undergoing a continuous developing phase, in the same phase as the society is moving forward. Hence, there will always be new marketing formats to analyze and understand. Native advertising is a way of advertising that most media today use and podcasts are one of the media channels that has embraced this. Native advertising aims to lend credibility from editorial content and is also known as editorially disguised advertising. The purpose of this study is to attain a deeper understanding of how listeners to podcasts perceive that they are being influenced by native advertising as an advertising format. A lot of studies have been conducted of how consumers relate and experiencing native advertising in written medias such as newspapers. However, how listeners to podcasts experience this is significantly less explored. This study investigates consumers' perceptions of native advertising in podcast, with “Fredagspodden” as an empirical example as it was the first Swedish podcast to present their advertising in this format. To create a deeper understanding of the matter, a qualitative approach has been chosen, where 10 semi structured interviews have been conducted. The respondents' answers were then analyzed using the theory "Psychological Reactance" as well as advertising as influence and information tool. By the results of the study, it was found that the placement of advertising could be experienced as manipulative when it occurred in the middle of the podcast program, as it was not always clear that it was sponsored content. It was also discovered that the listeners partly perceived the editorial advertisement as entertaining and informative, but at the same time ridiculed which lowered its credibility. Well-targeted and customized advertising that becomes relevant to the listeners, proved vital for a positive response. Thus, the two chosen theories could be used to explain the problematization of the matter.

Podcasting - audio obsah v digitální éře a jeho posluchači a posluchačky v Česku / Podcasting - audio content in the digital era and its listeners in Czechia

Sudíková, Tereza January 2020 (has links)
The master thesis entitled "Podcasting - audio content in the digital era and its listeners in Czechia" is devoted to the phenomenon of podcasting which connects the traditional audio format with new digital technologies. It deals with its history and current state both abroad and in Czechia. It also describes the specifics of podcasting, compares it with radio programs, mentions the importance of podcast applications or the funding issue of independent podcasts. It focuses attention on the role of the audience in today's world and the associated concepts of participatory culture and user generated content. The audience is also associated with the uses and gratifications theory which tries to understand why people consume media content. The aim of the research part of the thesis was to obtain information about Czech podcast listeners with whom semi-structured interviews were conducted. The collected data were then processed using the grounded theory method. The findings are organized into five chapters in order to answer five research questions. They revealed the motivations of Czech listeners for listening to podcasts, their perception of podcasts in comparison with radio programs, their attitude to listening to Czech and foreign podcasts, their perception of podcast presenter and their attitude...

We wanted to break with predjudices-that´s where it all started. : Podcast as a tool to develop a norm-critical pedagogy in dance education.

Lundahl Vigil, Teresia January 2021 (has links)
We wanted to break with prejudices- that´s where it all started.Podcast as a tool to develop a norm-critical pedagogy in dance education. This master thesis explores issues about academic dance education in the dynamic of a traditional and contemporary expectations in the discipline. In dialogue with dance students at an aesthetic program in the context of the upper secondary school/ the gymnasium in Sweden, dance theory is analysed from a norm-critical view. The students have created podcasts about dance styles such as dancehall, twerking, azonto and voguing. The analysis of the data has used action research as a method. The purpose has been to develop the didactics in the course Dance theory in order to reach an increased goal fulfillment, new knowledge and meaning in relation to curriculum and syllabi expectations. The study includes a research overview of dances from the African diaspora, African aesthetics and vernacular dance as well as the whiteness norm and intersectionality.     The podcasts have been analyzed in relation to governing documents, traditions of teaching dance and theories of resistance and participation. The joint result from the podcasts about dancehall, twerking and azonto emphasizes the importance of respectfully putting dance styles in a context of origins and history. At the same time, there is an encouragement for cultural encounters where hybrid forms of artistic expression can emerge. Central to the podcasts with voguing is for example that dance can offer a place where you can be yourself despite sexual orientation and norm-breaking lifestyle in a chosen community, and feel safe and accepted.     The results from the podcasts call for, and challenge, the governing documents (curriculum and syllabi) for norm-critical views of inclusion and diversity in terms of power, gender norms, tradition and values. Traditions and the norm of whiteness are challenged through various intersections of gender, color and identity etc., and a new canon of dances can take place. The gap between young people's interests and academic dance has diminished during the process of investigation, thanks to a joint acquisition of knowledge and discussions, even though consensus has not been the goal. Based on theories, we can interpret that each new generation will continue to challenge contemporary norms and values.

A thematic analysis of the portrayal of victims and offenders in two Swedish true crime podcasts

Lemon, Elin, Dalman, Olivia January 2023 (has links)
The purpose of this study was to examine how victims and offenders are portrayed by the hosts of Swedish true crime podcasts. Through a thematic analysis of different episodes of the podcasts "Spöktimmen" and "Mord Mot Mord", and by applying Christie’s theory of the ideal victim as well as a gender theoretical perspective, four themes could be identified; "innocent victims", "strong victims", "mad offenders", and "unlikely offenders". The result showed that the way they were portrayed largely corresponded to stereotypical representations of both victims and offenders as well as men and women, but that these stereotypes in some instances were challenged. Furthermore, female and male victims and offenders were portrayed in a way that confirmed previous research. Our conclusion was that stereotypical representations were common in our chosen podcast episodes, but that context played a central role in the way the victims and offenders were portrayed by the podcast hosts.

[pt] A RÁDIO ALL NEWS NO PODCAST E MUDANÇAS NAS ROTINAS PRODUTIVAS DO JORNALISMO: UM ESTUDO DE CASO DO PANORAMA CBN / [en] THE ALL-NEWS RADIO ON THE PODCAST AND CHANGES IN THE PRODUCTIVE ROUTINES OF JOURNALISM: A CASE STUDY OF PANORAMA CBN

CHRISTIANE ALVES DA C C DOS SANTOS 12 June 2023 (has links)
[en] This work aimed to investigate the transformations caused by digital information and communication technologies in the productive routines of radio newscasts, from the insertion of a news podcast on an all-news radio station. The work discusses the apparent contradiction in producing recorded content for a model based on live content. Through the case study and content analysis, we observe the construction of Panorama CBN, the station s podcast that calls itself a summary of the main news of the day in less than half an hour. With in-depth interviews, it was possible to understand how new media were incorporated into the daily life of traditional media. In the theoretical foundation, a research was carried out to deepen the reflection on the transformations of the radio. We resorted to journalism theories to relate the content of digital platforms with the language on the dial, newsworthiness criteria and infotainment. Through methodological criteria, we selected six editions of Panorama CBN since its creation in 2017. To base the trajectory of radio journalism, we made an account of the history of this area. We concluded that the entry of the podcast in a traditional newsroom was both an adaptation and a rupture. The association between expanding internet access and the growth of on-demand leads us to believe that podcasts have a favorable scenario, with different experiences from the radio. Both have specific space and functions and can coexist without the live content canceling the product broadcasted on digital platforms.

It is not about what you say,it is about how you say it : An analysis model on storytelling in radio documentaries

Kutinlahti, Sonja, Persson, Björn January 2017 (has links)
This bachelor’s essay sets to create a prototype analysis model that can be used to analyse radio documentaries. The purpose is to develop a new tool to understand radio documentary storytelling from a listener’s perspective. To create the analysis model we have used Mia Lindgren’s doctoral thesis Journalism as research: Developing radio documentary theory from practice (2011) and film theorist Bill Nichols Introduction to Documentary (2010).The result, a prototype of an analysis model, is a list of questions that is to be used with the help of the essays theory chapter. In short the model looks at the aspects of the story idea, motif, scenes, sounds, narrator, music, interviews, dramaturgy and the six modes of documentary storytelling as explained by Bill Nichols. The analysis model is then tested, with aim to find ways to improve it in future research. The test takes form as two analyses of two radio documentaries, Granaten Excalibur - och den svenska vapenexporten by Måns Mosesson and The Rhino Hunter by Simon Adler. The results of the test shows that the analysis model functions well in giving insight to the storytelling of the analysed radio documentaries. Though, the test also shows that the analysis model has to be complemented with deeper explanations of dramaturgy, scenes, music and narrator. Also, the used film theory by Bill Nichols has to be tested on more radio content to determine its functionality on radio. In conclusion the research shows that the analysis model works and can be tested on more material and developed further.

”Skandinaviens mest bisarra kriminaldrama”: En kritisk diskursanalys av hur mordet på Kim Wall konstrueras i svenska podcasts. / ”Scandinavia's most bizarre criminal drama”: A critical discourse analysis of how the Kim Wall murder is constructed in Swedish podcasts.

Eriksson, Jessica January 2019 (has links)
The present study reviews how the Kim Wall murder is constructed in Swedish podcasts. The media coverage of the case has been criticized for being speculative and unethical and it is not only relevant, but of the utmost importance to investigate whether the new media form podcast follows in the footsteps of traditional media. Specifically, five podcast episodes are studied, of which three are privately owned and two are public service-owned. Through critical discourse analysis, it is traced how victims and perpetrators are constructed from a gender and media logic perspective. In addition, similarities and / or differences in these constructions are analyzed in privately owned and public service-owned podcasts. The result shows that both the victim, the perpetrator and the case as such are constructed based on five different discursive themes. In the first theme, the perpetrator Peter Madsen is practically glorified. In the second- and third theme, Kim Wall is reduced to a pile of body parts and when her life and deed are presented, it is done through an unfavorable connection to Madsen. In the fourth theme, the crime is sensationalized by various, conscious or unconscious, discursive approaches. Lastly, some events are described with some form of irony, sarcasm or satire.

A brilliant alternative to alcohol and drugs : A critical discourse analysis of influencers language usage on the topic of consumption

Svensson Lybing, Linda, Persson, Sofia January 2017 (has links)
This study is focusing on opinion leaders in media and their language usage regarding the topic of consumption. This due to the overconsumption that is evident in our society today. One opinion leader that have the power to legitimize and the access to the public discourse is the one referred to as an influencer. The purpose of this study is to increase critical language awareness amongst media consumers, which is done by examining how influencers in the podcast media construct the image of consumption. This is done to see how they, in their position of power, maintain the Swedish consumption norm. The study is focusing on one of Sweden's largest podcasts: Fredagspodden with Hannah and Amanda. In order to see constructions of consumption, this study is conducted with a critical discourse analysis. The theoretical framework of the study is based on Zygmunt Baumans description of consumerism. In addition to this, the structuration theory with its view on the concept of power is used, as well as thetheory of legitimacy. The approach of this study is based on the three-dimensional analysis model originally developed by Norman Fairclough. The material has been elaborated in three dimensions: text practice, discursive practice and social practice. This was done to understand the relationship between each practice in relation to the others, making it possible to understand how the language affects and is influenced by the prevailing norms and social systems. Based on the linguistic resources presented in the study material, five discourse themes have been revealed: consumption as desideratum; representation of excessive consumption; the listener as an assumed consumer; consumption as a source for well-being; and consumption as identity building. Together, it can be said that the themes legitimize the current Swedish consumption norm and the material should therefore be seen as a contributing factor to overconsumption.
