The purpose of this work is to evaluate how a docking station can be more future proof, environmentally friendly and satisfy the customers’ needs more. The docking station in focus of this project is owned by LVI, and used with one of their cameras MagniLink S. When comparing the results of the new docking station and the current docking station, the new docking station is more future proof, environmentally friendly and satisfies the customers’ needs more. In the end it is established that following steps should be followed during the development of a docking station: -          Make sure that the cables are reliably fastened into the docking station and that the connectors can handle the docking force. -          Design to use more material with lower environmental impact and ensure that the material fulfils the product requirements and objectives. Use as small amount of material as possible. -          Prioritize the customers’ expressed and unexpressed needs as one of the highest priorities during the development process.

New innovation and technology have influenced the development of product development processes and the four largest banks in Sweden have more or less been forced to adapt their products and services along new customer requirements. It may therefore be considered appropriate to involve customers in this process. This by collecting customer information and allow customers to influence the process to a greater extent. The payment solutions of Sweden’s largest banks' continue to evolve and to pay with electronic money has come to change banks' product development processes of payment solutions. This process should not only create an innovative product but should also be performed with continuous quality, sharp focus and prioritization, fast action, team focus, customer involvement, follow-through, and with a final product with strong competitive advantages that satisfies customer needs. The purpose of this study is with help from Sweden's four largest banking groups; Handelsbanken, Swedbank, Nordea and SEB, create the optimal product development process that includes customer involvement, customer impact, and clearly indicate where and how the collection of customer data should occur. This, with the help of a developed analysis tool - as a result of the study, can be applied to analyze the extent to which customers can be considered to be involved and influence the product development process. The four banks do not involve customers in a sufficiently large extent in the current situation in their product development processes. Customer information is collected but not always implemented and the instances where customers may be involved and influence are too few. By modifying the process and eliminating and adding new process phases and in these involve customers with complementary methods has an optimal product development process been developed with a focus on the collection of customer information, customer involvement and customer impact. This process aims to create competitive advantages for banks through increased customer focus. / Ny innovation och teknik har påverkat utvecklingen av produktutvecklingsprocesser och Sveriges största bankkoncerner har mer eller mindre blivit tvungna att anpassa sina produkter och tjänster utefter nya kundkrav, det kan därför anses lämpligt att involvera kunderna i processen. Detta genom att samla in kundinformation och låta kunderna påverka processen i en större utsträckning. Sveriges största bankkoncerners betalningslösningar fortsätter att utvecklas och att betala med elektroniska pengar har kommit att förändra bankernas produktutvecklingsprocesser av betalningslösningar. Denna process ska inte endast skapa innovativa produkter utan också genomföras med kontinuerlig kvalité, skarpt fokus och prioritering, snabba aktiviteter, team fokus, kundinvolvering, uppföljning och med en slutprodukt med starka konkurrensfördelar och som tillfredsställer kundernas behov. Syftet med studien är att med hjälp av Sveriges fyra största bankkoncerner; Handelsbanken, Swedbank, Nordea och SEB, skapa den optimala produktutvecklingsprocessen och påvisa vart i denna process kundinvolvering, kundpåverkan och insamling av kundinformation bör ske. Detta med hjälp av ett framtaget analysverktyg, ett resultat av studien, som kan tillämpas för att analysera i vilken utsträckning kunderna kan anses vara involverade och påverka en produktutvecklingsprocess.  I dagsläget involverar bankerna inte kunderna i produktutvecklingsprocessen i tillräckligt stor utsträckning. Kundinformation samlas in men implementeras inte alltid och tillfällen där kunderna kan vara involverade och påverka är få. Genom att modifiera processen och eliminera samt addera nya processfaser och i dessa involvera kunderna med kompletterande metoder har en optimal produktutvecklingsprocess framtagits med fokus på insamling av kundinformation, kundinvolvering och kundpåverkan. Denna process är avsedd att stärka bankernas konkurrensfördelar genom att sätta kunden i fokus.

Relevant factors in the path of successful implementation of Lean

In any business environment companies experience challenges and competition. In this current worldwide economic crisis, the stakes are now higher. With every crisis comes opportunity. The best companies with the best methods and processes that create highest quality product for less money will have an extraordinary advantage over their less efficient, lower quality competition. The term ‘Lean’ describes how Toyota does business: fewer humans, less effort, less investment, fewer defects, less time to develop, less inventory. For companies that have truly understood and implemented these principles the effects are significant; but many others have failed Lean initiatives. What factors are necessary for a company to successfully adopt the processes proven by over 50 years of success in Toyota? Using both primary and secondary research, I compared attributes of four companies, three of which were successful, and one that did not make the conversion. Three main factors emerged, the Technical Factor -- knowing both your core business and having a deep understanding of Lean principles, the Management Factor -- strong leadership operating within Lean principles and with hands-on approach, and the Human Factor -- approaching the workforce with respect and employee engagement in problem-solving process. The following is a brief review of these factors and the tools and concepts that undergird them. / text

The Software Life Cycle (SLC) often comprises a complex sequence of processes, each with many subparts where various execution decisions throughout the pipeline can greatly affect the success or failure of a given project. Some of the most important decisions involve the allocation of scarce resources throughout the SLC, which are often based on estimations about future market demand and various extraneous factors of high stochasticity. Despite numerous efforts in standardization, many projects are still highly dependent on the subjective aptitude of individual managers, who may in turn rely on ad hoc techniques rather than standardized and repeatable ones. The results can be unpredictability and undue reliance on specific individuals. This paper considers imposing a mathematical framework on two of the key aspects of SLC: Deciding how to dynamically allocate available resources throughout the development pipeline, and when to stop further work on a given task in light of the associated Return On Investment (ROI) metrics. In so doing, the software development process is modeled as a problem in New Product Development (NPD) Management, which can be approached using control theory and stochastic combinatorial optimization techniques. The paper begins by summarizing some of the previous developments in these fields, and proposes some future research directions for solving complex resource allocation problems under stochastic settings. The outcome is a formal framework that when combined with competent Configuration Management techniques, can rapidly achieve near-optimal solutions at each stage of the SLC in a standardized manner. / text

消費型電子產業市場商機龐大,從2000年開始的筆記型電腦,直到2008年的平板電腦,一直到現在的平價手機,動輒百萬台以上的銷售量,讓己經上櫃上市或期待IPO的公司為之瘋狂,市場需求量大,出貨量也高,但同時隨之而來的是,需要非常快速的反應與及時的量產能力,企業在這樣高度競爭的市場下,相對需要的是非常快速的專案開發與研發速度。在產品壽命週期短,高風險及競爭者眾多的狀況,許多歐美大廠 , 例如Black Berry、DELL computer、甚至台灣的大型OEM電子品牌大廠都受到來自低成本國家,例如中國大陸的強大壓力及挑戰,然而在技術門檻相對較低的消費性電子連接器產業,這樣的情況又更加嚴重。 20年前在台灣剛開始主導全球主機板市場的年代,會做連接器的廠商不多,外資連接器商擁有相當好的利潤。15年前鴻海開始大舉攻進以外商為主的CPU socket連接器市場,讓外資連接器商開始有不小的壓力,時至今日,連接器技術愈來愈不是高科技,而成本更低的陸資連接器廠商也開始入場搶市,讓原本在供應鏈中獲利就不高的連接器外資及台資廠壓力更為沉重。 由此,如何讓生產連接器的公司能更有效的選擇及管理產品開發專案,節省開發成本,提高資源運用效率,對於即有的連接器廠就是愈來愈重要的課題。本研究以一家製造連接器超過五十年以上的外資連接器企業為例,將其如何從原有的產品開發流程導入精實產品開發,及導入後對企業財務及業務的指標影響與變化。而研究結果証明,在導入精實產品開發後,企業的業務指標的確有相當大的進步,且人力成本也隨之下降,如果能再經由改善後的成果加強與精進,將更能使企業在惡劣的環境下繼續獲利。 / Consumer electronics industry is a huge market. Since 2000’s Laptop to 2008’s tablet until the cheap smart phone now, the huge market share is the target for all the company in this industry. However the big market share also brings strong competition. Which need fast feedback and real time ramp up. When the company faces to this kind of higher competition, it need fast product development speed and R&D efficiency. During this situation, a lot of major company face to the threat from the low cost country like Black Berry, DELL computer even the OEM maker from Taiwan, such as Inventec, Wistorn. Moreover the industry like consumer connector is face to more serious saturation due to the lower technology skill request. 20 years before Taiwan is leading the PC motherboard market, during that time there are not so many companies could make the connector. Therefore the margin is good for the word leading connector Company like FCI, AMP and Molex. However since 15 years before, Foxconn join the high level CPU socket market and make the pressure for those companies. Now, the connector technology skill are not special anymore and more low cost company start to share this market, make the foreign connector company and Taiwan maker more pressure. Therefore to choose a good project and management the product development project to save the development cost and willing management the resource become important for all connector maker. This research are use a connector leading company which make the connector more then 50 years, apply lean product development to show how it apply to the process and the KPI change after it apply. It proof after apply lean product development the KPI was improved. If the company could base on this good result and keep improving, survive in this serious maket will not a difficult thinkgs.

Innovate On A Shoestring : Product development for the Least Developed Countries and what we can re-use in the Established Markets

By understanding current approaches and methods of product development (PD) combined with knowledge of the needs and know-how of customers in the least developed countries (LDCs) associated risks and excessive costs can be avoided. The main purpose of this thesis is to highlight the important need of developing products and services for the LDCs and to look at current practices for PD and to distill these into one method for developing products pertinent to LDC needs and markets. Conversely, the second purpose for this thesis is to examine possible LDC based development tools that can be applicable when designing for the more established markets. There are also crucial social, cultural, economic and political reasons for addressing LDC related issues. The goal is to show companies of all sizes that it can be profitable to expand to new markets in the LDCs and also that the steps used there can help generate new revenue when implemented in their current markets, as well as to provide them a model for it. This thesis includes and clearly demonstrates the importance of development involvement on the local level and the benefit of using complementors. The thesis data and conclusions are based on literature studies and an extended stay in the Dominican Republic. It is here observed that by getting closer to the end customer, a company will get an increased understanding and knowledge that provides an advantage over the competition. And for companies to succeed in the LDCs, the three most significant things to consider are: 1) to find the specific needs of the customer, 2) design for affordability, and 3) to source and manufacture locally. It will be seen that the benefits to such an approach extend outward in essentially all directions.

Development of a Demonstrator in the Aerospace Industry for Visualization of 3D Work Instructions

This master thesis was performed at the business area of Aeronautics at Saab AB in collaboration with Linköping University during the spring of 2015. In a complex product development environment, having knowledge about different processes is advantageous for efficiency. Model Based Definition (MBD) is a product development process where a 3D-model is the main source of information and the same 3D-model is applied all the way from design to production. In assembly, the operator follows work instructions where the 3D-model, and its requirements, is visualized. The model is always updated to the latest version and no 2D-drawings are needed. Saab applied MBD during the development of the new generation of the fighter aircraft JAS 39 Gripen. This change, from previously 2D to 3D, has caused that both internal and external people have minor knowledge about the new developing process of MBD. The purpose of the thesis was to develop a demonstrator acting as an educational environment to share knowledge about the MBD-process and the 3D work instructions. New methods and processes could be tested and evaluated in the demonstrator before implementing into the real product development process. By following and developing an interdependent and iterative product development process, this work has visualized the MBD-process. Designing and developing a demonstrator, using the same tools as in the real product development process, accomplished this. This thesis has developed a demonstrator that includes the main components of a physical model with corresponding 3D work instructions and a conceptual layout. A physical Lego model of Gripen provides a flexible and interesting way of sharing knowledge to the user who interacts with the demonstrator. The 3D work instructions were created in a way so that the user can assemble and interact with the same expressions and terms in order to get an understanding about how they are used. The educational aspect is important where simplifications and additional notes to the instructions help to get a better understanding. Depending on who the user is, different levels of preparations are needed. The recognition factor is important to a user with experience of MBD; it needs to be able to understand how different terms and requirements are used in the development process. The future work is about setting up the demonstrator and conduct usability tests to evaluate, modify and implement more details. Using a demonstrator in this purpose can be helpful for evaluating different techniques, methods or systems and reduce the errors in the product development process. It can also encourage people to a new enjoyable way of learning.

The focus is on reviewing adipose tissue engineering research and proposing technology opportunities that could be applied to challenging soft tissue reconstruction cases and adjacently applied to cosmetic applications. To establish the foundation for this type of program, this thesis includes an evaluation of the reconstructive and cosmetic procedure markets, current practices in these markets and their constraints, as well as a literature review of research in adipose tissue engineering and its potential clinical applications. Additionally it captures the competitive landscape of major players in the reconstructive market as well as up-and-coming players in the adipose tissue engineering field. Technology development opportunities with associated customer and business value are discussed with a recommendation for the development of a detailed business case to evaluate specific product development opportunities in these markets. / text
