The objective of this dissertation is to perform a reading of the work \" Como se o mundo não tivesse leste\" (1977), by Ruy Duarte de Carvalho, with special focus on the configuration space, seeking to understand the relationship that is established between the colonial order, with its legal system, and the community universe that seeks to break the colonial invasion. In chapter 1, we review some biographical details of the author and his art project as well as the historical context of this production. Also, we analyze the story \"As águas de Capembaúa\" with emphasis on spaces of onganda and farm. In chapter 2, the analysis focused on \"João Carlos, natural Chinguar, no Bié\" noting the spaces sambo and sanzala. In chapter 3, we focus on \"Como se o mundo não tivesse leste\" counterpoint the geography of southern Angola and cosmogony (earth/land, man, ancestor) to the space of the store and the colonial administrative post. In all chapters, we point to the presence of legal duality (customary law and colonial law), and the author\'s narrative technique, whose central feature is to reorganize, through the narrator, the different versions of each of the three stories.

Previous issue date: 2016-06-02 / This study aimed to analyze the present memory and melancholy ipresent in some poems byn Ruy Espinheira Filho, taken from books Poesia Reunida e In?ditos (1998), Elegia de Agosto e outros poemas (2005), Sob o c?u de Samarcanda (2009), Livro de can??es e in?ditos (2011) e Viagem e outros poemas (2011). The choice of these works was due to the fact that they have almost all the poems published by the author to the present year of the dissertation. The methodology used was analysis of form and content of some poems in order to realize that despite the common sense to believe in nostalgia mode memory idea, the poems of the Bahian poet analyzed go the opposite way to that vision, revealing the pain that the past still dating, and even specific bibliographic research about the related topics in this thesis, in this case, memory and melancholy in the work of Ruy Espinheira Filho and poetry, especially contemporary. The lyrical I do not want to relive the past tense, but recognizes that their identity is formed from their experiences. We know that the past is never returned or revived in the present as it was, but the memory can be recovered, albeit selectively, forgetting and / or adding elements a time that no longer remains. The lyrical poems in the analyzed reveals a human frailty, has the death as the only sure, but not to have a past and settled back to him through the memories, even if for this need to suffer again. He feels stuck in the past, for this be your life or unresolved issues, which are still present. In reflecting on the losses obtained in time, the lyrical subject feels self-absorbed, becoming a being melancholy and therefore memoirist. [pt] RUY CINATTI: O ENGENHEIRO DAS FLORES / [en] RUY CINATTI: THE FLOWER ENGINEERLETICIA VILLELA LIMA DA COSTA 01 March 2005 (has links)
singularidade. Sua poesia, bem como seus estudos
científicos, evidenciam a
ampla e abrangente. Estas idéias refletem-se a todo momento
nos poemas que dedicou
a Timor.
chefes timorenses. A
literatura portuguesa. / [en] This thesis concerns some aspects of the work of Ruy
Cinnati, a poet whose
singularity makes him an outstanding figure in the rich
panorama of twentieth-century
Portuguese poetry. His poems, as well as his scientific
studies, testify to the author s
interest and knowledge of environmental and anthropological
issues, which are reflected
in his political positions. His writings are expos s of the
misuse of natural resources and
the exploitation of human beings under Portuguese
colonization, as well as of the
countless interventions suffered by East Timor throughout
its history. Thanks to his
interdisciplinary scientific training (as a forest expert,
an anthropologist and an
agronomist) Ruy Cinatti was uniquely able to see man s
relationship with the
environment. These ideas are clearly present in the poems
he dedicated to Timor. In his
many surveying trips, Cinatti intensified his relations
with the Timorese. This was made
possible by his ability to transcend the role of the
Portuguese colonizer and to get close
to the Timorese to the point of being accepted by the
natives as a brother witness the
blood pact he celebrated with two Timorese chiefs. His
interdisciplinary and sensitive
worldview makes his poetic and scientific work rather
special and unique, so that Ruy
Cinatti has become a fundamental name in Portuguese
literature.

As
personagens principais, Severo e Trindade.
[en] The thesis The word-landscape and the tensions of the colonial library: a study on
the cosmogonies of the writing of Ruy Duarte de Carvalho aims to investigate the
literary production of the Angolan writer and intellectual Ruy Duarte de Carvalho,
considering the nuances of the landscape embodied and the impasses of crossing
the western library in order to facing the emanations of a global civilizing system.
These nuances are analysis matrices of, respectively, the last two volumes of the
trilogy Os filhos de Próspero: As paisagens propícias (2005) and A terceira
metade (2009). Duarte s half-fiction writings are constructed before the eyes of
the reader, in other words, the author-narrator depictures the writing process,
based on literary and narrative procedures that theorize and reference his own
work. While the stories of the self, intertwined and confused with the other (main
character), play with moving landscapes, due to the trip, with the I-narrator and
with the other, as much the other considered only the different from the self (as
the borders characters protagonists of the trilogy Os filhos de Próspero) as the
other distinguished by the author in theoretical texts as traditional societies that
did not have their customs and cosmovision totally modified by colonialism.
Thenceforward, the research emerges questions in relation to why and how the
relational triangle I-other-space contributes to other meanings in the works of
Ruy Duarte de Carvalho. Can landscapes indicate the cosmovision of this
Other? How to think about the post-colonial from an European experience in
fiction? After the path of methodological deviations of the research and the close
reading of the two novels and other works of the author, on the one hand, the
word-landscape somehow differs from the theories of geography and philosophy
about the landscape, since that one can apprehend epistemic landscapes arising
from pastoral worldviews interfered with by Western epistemes. On the other
hand, and in a similar way, there seems to be a dispute over the meanings of
science through an epistemological polyphony, in which a blunting of western
science and the colonial library appears, which mixes with the theories of
pastoral cosmogonies depicturing by the main characters, Severo and Trindade.
The question of power and the angles on which the gaze rests crosses the two
approaches in both the epistemology of the landscape and the knowledge. As a
result, the novels have complex plots that undo dichotomies through
heterogeneous worldviews, in a literary and poetic game of otherness that turns to
interlocution rather than representation.

[en] PROSPERS LEGACY: AN INVESTIGATION ON RUY DUARTE DE CARVALHOS NARRATIVE PROJECT / [pt] O LEGADO DE PRÓSPERO: UMA INVESTIGAÇÃO DO PROJETO NARRATIVO DE RUY DUARTE DE CARVALHOISABELITA MARIA CROSARIOL 10 September 2013 (has links)
ecoam no presente.
[en] Prospers legacy: an investigation Ruy Duarte de Carvalhoss narrative
Project analyses, upon a post colonial point of view, William Shakespeares play
entitled The Tempest, to verify the colonization approach in the narratives of the
Angolan writer Ruy Duarte de Carvalho. Published after the independence of
Angola, these works dont show the colonization experience as a fully complete
process since its traces reverberate in the present time. Thus, Prospero and
Caliban (Shakespearean characters considered after the 1950s as respective
symbols of the colonizer and the colonized) and the tempest symbology are
theoretically discussed, in this research, to elucidate the new obstacles
experienced after the Angolan decolonization. To establish the approach between
Shakespeares play and Ruy Duarte de Carvalhoss narratives, the theoretical
dialog proposed by the Angolan author naming his trilogy as Os filhos de
Próspero (referring to the physical and cultural miscegenation process as a result
of the colonization) was considered as well as the tempest thematic recurrence in
his artistic creation. In this thesis, besides the narrations that set Os filhos de
Próspero – Os papeis do inglês (2000), As paisagens propícias (2005) e A
visitar pastores (1999) e Desmedida (2006) are also analyzed.

Previous issue date: 2017-02-23 / This work intends to analyze the play Ópera do Malandro written by Chico Buarque, concomitantly to the homonymous film directed by Ruy Guerra, using as theorical basis the Semiotic of Culture of Russian orientation together with the concept of carnavalization in order to modelize the image of the lazy stock character, present in both semiotic languages. The main objectives of this research are: to analyze the multiple aspects of carnavalization present in both the play and the film; to resignify the figure of the lazy stock character according to the other character’s point of view and finally, to verify in which way the lazy stock character image is performed and deconstruct through the songs which constitute the dramatic text. This research will be mainly supported by the theories of the carnavalization and the serious-comic gender, postulated by Mikhail Bakhtin. The analyze of the comic in the focused objects will be based on the ideas of Propp and Bergson. The discussion related to the Semiotic of Culture will be sustained by Lótman and Machado. Erika Fisher-Lichtie, Veltruski and Kowzan provided the basis to the studies related to the semiotics of the theatre. Based on the ideas of all these theorists, we intend to decodify and to resignify the process of carnavalization occurred in these two distinct semiotic languages, using the representation of the lazy stock character as the mediator linking between then.

Previous issue date: 2016-09-16 / Conselho Nacional de Pesquisa e Desenvolvimento Científico e Tecnológico - CNPq / This study addresses the recurring expression of memory as a self-restriction device in Ruy Espinheira
Filho's poetry. We aimed to analyze the work published in 2012, Estação infinita e outras
estações (Infinite station and other stations), which comprises the poet‘s whole literary production
to date. At first, we present a brief overview of the author‘s lyrical work with emphasis to
two recurring themes in his poetry, memory and the reflection upon the passing of time, both in
consonance with each other. Concepts around memory and memory reading – in light of Ecléa
Bosi (2003), Michael Pollack (1992),Gaëtan Pïcon (1969) and Marcel Proust (1991) for our theoretical
framework – articulate themselves in Ruy Espinheira Filho‘s poetry in order to shape the
very lyrical subjectivity of his poetry. Moreover, based on Jon Elster‘s theory (2009) on selfrestriction
in art, we show how the recurrence around themes such as transformations and losses
experienced over time, as well as the attempt to capture and reflect in verse the manifestations of
memory, render themselves in this poetic assemblage as self-restrictions capable of potentializing
the author‘s creative expression.
do autor.

[en] This dissertation starts from the Jacques Rancierè s visibility regimes and from the Didi-Huberman s concept of montage to the analysis of the text Desmedida, 2006, by Ruy Duarte de Carvalho. The central objective is to evidence this artistic production like an instrument of interventional writing, inspired by three different logics: political, native communities and cinematographic. For that purpose, it s noted that artistic manifestation as a space of resistance, reaction and confrontation to discursive images generated with the intention of limiting existences in different times of the colonial domination, as well as the contemporary colonialities.

Previous issue date: 2017-04-26 / The main object of study assumed in this paper are the media and semiotic dialogues
of the relationship literature-cinema having cultural contexts as backround. From multiple
factors and study models which include cinema, the aim is to analyze the movement of the
creative process between the works "La increíble y triste historia de la cándida Eréndira y su
abuela desalmada" (1972) by García Márquez and the film Eréndira (1983) by Ruy Guerra. In
addition to looking after a relationship of analysis in which the film is only based on the story,
it is sought to think how the cultural contexts of the artists and the potential representatives of
the media resignify readings that are materialized by creating an interpenetration of the artistic
discourses. Therefore, this paper strives to present cross-readings that make it possible to
understand treatments of cultural issues in the story from the point of view of
cinematographic resources and the same in reverse.

Contestatory subjects : performance and the politics of recognition in Don QuijoteGarst-Santos, Christine Anne 15 December 2013 (has links)
In "Contestatory Subjects: Performance and the Politics of Recognition in Don Quijote," I analyze the performative strategies used by several well-known characters in Cervantes' 1605 Don Quijote to counter their initial displacement and to constitute an alternative yet acceptable subject position for themselves within the socio-historic structure of the text. Throughout the study, I posit that successful subjectivity requires more than the character who performs any given subject position; it requires a response, an on-going dialogue between self and other - and most importantly - it requires an ethical commitment to the process on the part of the witness, be that witness intra- or extra-textual.
My analysis of Dorotea, Ruy Pérez, and Zoraida shows that their individual performances are really communal or dialogic processes played out in conjunction with other characters. My project therefore counters the tendency to study each character's story as an isolated performance or as a self-contained intercalated tale in Don Quijote. Rather, I offer a more holistic or integrated examination of a trajectory of contestatory performances throughout Part I of the Quijote. With each performance, the 1605 novel increasingly expands the normative limits of social inclusivity in Early Modern Spain, ultimately arguing in the last chapters for the accommodation of a mora cristiana within the limits of the recognizable. In viewing these characters not as isolated, self-fashioning individuals but rather as a community of performers and ethical witnesses, my analysis points toward a didactic project on Cervantes's part in the 1605 novel, in which he uses these characters to model and tutor the reader in empathetic reading strategies that forestall the inquisitorial hermeneutic imposed by the State and the Church in Habsburg Spain.
My analysis of Cervantes's contestatory performances and their receptions draws primarily on critical theories of gender and performance studies in combination with the cultural materialist studies of early modern Spain (e.g., Cruz, Fuchs, Hernández-Pecoraro, Johnson, Maravall, Mariscal, Presberg, Sieber). Of particular importance are Judith Butler's work on gender performativity and Kelly Oliver's work on witnessing, which nuances Butler's notion of performativity by addressing the ethical responsibilities on the part of the witness/spectator. Each chapter links the performance in question back to the material conditions and available discourses vying to produce acceptable subjects in early modern Spain. In terms of normative discourses, the most obvious institutions involved in the formation and reformation of the seventeenth-century Spanish subject are the Church and the Absolutist state, quite effectively combined in the Holy Office of the Inquisition. Therefore, this study features a number of theological, economic, and social treatises that were written in an effort to constitute the ideal Spanish subject in terms of gender, religion, race/ethnicity and class/estado. Around these normative subject positions we observe the subsequent formation of resistant or contestatory discourses, which also feature prominently in each chapter of the study.
By combining the work of Butler and Oliver, and insisting on an analysis of both the performer and the spectator in various scenes of Don Quijote, Part I, this project fills gaps in the scholarship on Cervantes and performance studies, which have tended to privilege the performance of the self-fashioning individual while overlooking the dialogic nature of performativity. I show that there is more at stake than opening space for projects of private perfection, which is no doubt a necessary goal. Also at stake are ethical relationships with others and shared projects of social reform and restoration. In all of the performances I analyze here, Cervantes creates characters who self-fashion by reiterating and manipulating contrary, traditionally binary discourses around gender, class, race/ethnicity, religion, and nationality. In turn, his fictional witness-listeners model the ethical posture necessary to maintain a productive openness to the characters' difference. Together, their performances induce us to accept the contestatory virtues of faith, good works, and caritas over the normative determinants of blood (purity) and lineage (old-order occupations; ejercicios), which the novel shows to be tired categories that are encouraging costly foreign wars, emigration to the New World, declining fertility rates, and unproductive economic investments.
