Trivsel hos elever i skolor : Baserat på utformning och stommaterial / Well-being of pupils in schools : Based on building design and structural material

Azadi Jafarabadi, Sandra January 2020 (has links)
A school building has always been a public place that represents the society and its users. Today there are a lot of different structural materials to use to build a school building. In 2016, Sweden’s first school built in solid wood was completed. Teachers are among the most important factors in enchancing student’s development, but also the enviroment they are in, affects their learning ability and well-being. The purpose of the study is to investigate whether the schools’ choice of structural material and building design influences pupils’ well-being. The purpose is also to be able to contribute knowledge to the construction sector on how a school’s physical environment can be designed. A survey provided data from three different schools, with three different structural materials, from three different eras. The result shows that the most vital parameter for pupils’ well-being were the teachers and classmates, but also the colors of the school.

Fjärr- och distansstudier påverkan på gymnasieelevers aktivitetsmönster : En kvantitativ enkätstudie / Distance studies impact on highschool students activity patterns : A quantitative survey study

keinan, rugia, Zidane, Andrina January 2021 (has links)
37 gymnasieelever deltog i studien. Data analyserades i mjukvaruprogrammet Statistical Package for the Social Science (SPSS), resultat presenterades genom deskriptiv statistik. / The purpose of the study was to investigate how high school student’s patterns of activity is affected in connection with studies through distance from home. A quantitative, descriptive study was performed to collect data through a self-designed questionnaire. There was a total of 10 questions and the questionnaire was created with inspiration from the occupational therapy instrument assessment of adaptations in the school environment (BAS). The study applied a mixture between a convenience selection and a snowball selection. 37 high school students participated in the study. Data was analyzed in the software program Statistical Package for the Social Science (SPSS), results were presented through descriptive statistics. The results showed that high school students prefer studies in school over studies through distance. It appears that the participants spend more time on studies in addition to lessons (homework, learning, assignments, etc.) when they study by distance than they usually do when they study in school. The conclusion is that distance studies have an impact on high school student’s patterns of activity.

Språk lever i alla rum : en visuell etnografisk studie utifrån en skolas lingvistiska landskap / Language lives in every room : a visual ethnographic study based on a school's linguistic landscape

Inga, Josefine January 2021 (has links)
This study aims to get further knowledge about linguistic landscapes in a school's environment by examining how multilingualism is shaped in physical environments. The study was conducted in a school in northern Sweden and is based on the socio-cultural perspective's idea of the importance of language regarding pupils' development both in terms of identity and knowledge. Furthermore, the school was built for about 700 pupils, which has meant that the study concentrated on environments for preschool class to year three. This study is framed by visual ethnography, which focus more on a knowledge production rather than just collecting data. The material consists of 53 produced photographs from the school's linguistic landscape combined with written fieldnotes. Likewise, the visual ethnography depends on how the image is used and interpreted to make visible meanings in multilingualism. Thus, qualitative content analysis with a conventional approach was used. This meant that codes, labels and categories emerged from the data. In the results presented, the linguistic landscape shows indications of focus, implicit messages and ways of thinking about multilingualism. The study shows that the growing research field of linguistic landscapes can raise awareness of valuable information about linguistic and social aspects based on pupils' learning.

Výskyt a vnímání sexuálního obtěžování na českých středních školách / Occurrence and prevalence of sexual harassment on Czech high schools

Sedláčková, Jana January 2012 (has links)
The aim of my thesis is to discover how prevalent the sexual harassment by teachers at Czech secondary schools is and how students perceive such described problematic behaviour. In the theoretical section, I describe the history of origin of the term sexual harassment abroad as well as in the Czech Republic. Further, I present its definitions and Czech legislation of this phenomenon. Consequently, the readers will learn about theories of sexual harassment in the academic setting and about findings of some foreign and Czech researches recently held on this topic. Finally, the last chapter of the theoretical part is devoted to specific setting of secondary schools with emphasis on the main functions of educational institutions. I also point out consequences of adolescent students' sexual harassment. The empirical part then describes a chosen method - quantitative survey research - and its practical use. After that, the findings are presented and analyzed. Besides the overall occurrence of sexual harassment at Czech secondary schools I also focus on the comparison of this phenomenon perception between boys and girls and also among different types of Czech secondary schools.

Fysisk bildning i grundskolan : Fritidspedagoger och idrottslärare om skolans arbete med rörelseutbildning / Physical literacy in primary school : School-age educare teachers and PE-teachers on movement education in school

Granlöf, Jonatan, Hillberg, Anders January 2022 (has links)
Physical literacy (PL) is an approach to how people may be socialised to be physically active and was 2018 included in the World Health Organization's action plan on physical activity against physical inactivity and sedentary behaviour. In their action plan the education systems of the member states were challenged to work against physical inactivity and sedentary behaviour in the form of PL. How- and if PL is implemented in Swedish schools is not widely known. The purpose of this study was to examine how- and if, PL is implemented among Physical education teachers (PE) and school-age educare teachers (SAE) and their view of the approach. Our focus was on the four core elements of PL that contain Motivation, Confidence, Physical competence and Knowledge and understanding. Furthermore, the study aimed to investigate whether or not the teachers could spot similarities and differences between boys and girls PL. And also the conditions for SAE teachers and PE-teachers to work together to further develop students PL. This study was based on a semi-structured method, conducting seven interviews with SAE teachers and PE-teachers in the province of Västerbotten. The results of the interviews indicated that PL is not directly implemented in the current PE or SAE, but rather indirectly implemented. It also turned out that every interviewee makes individual adaptations for boys and girls, and that they see few gender differences related to the four core elements in PL. All teachers viewed PL as important and that the core elements affect all their students, varying with age. Most interviewees mentioned a collaboration between SAE and PE but the teachers don’t see a need for further collaborations. One conclusion of this study was that the approach of PL can contribute to further enhancing physical activity in school that could lead to lifelong health.

Effective School Characteristics And Student Achievement Correlates As

Doran, James 01 January 2004 (has links)
The purpose of this study is to investigate the relationships between effective school characteristics and norm referenced standardized test scores in American-style international schools. In contrast to schools in traditional effective schools research, international schools typically have middle to high SES families, and display average to above average achievement. Eleven effective school characteristics were identified and correlated with standardized test scores for grades 4, 6, and 8 and high school SAT scores. Data was gathered from an online teacher questionnaire designed for this study. All eleven characteristics were present in high performing international schools while frequent analysis of student progress, high academic expectations and positive school environment were more prominent. Positive school environment, high academic expectations, strong instructional leadership and cultural diversity were chosen as important characteristics of an effective international school. Learning time is maximized was the only characteristic that was significantly correlated with achievement and only in grades 4, 6 and 8. There was no statistically significant relationship found between norm referenced test scores and the aggregate effective school characteristics score.

Unga immigranters upplevelser av inkludering/exkludering i svensk gymnasieskola / Young immigrants' experiences of inclusion/exclusion in Swedish upper secondary school

Khoshaba, Mari, Pezo, Enna January 2023 (has links)
Previous surveys showed in their results that immigrants experience some form of social inclusion in introductory class, and social exclusion in ordinary class. Against the background of previous research, it was shown that there was an ongoing societal discussion on this topic, which is the inspiration for this study's research area. The study's questions are formulated against the background of investigating how young immigrants experience inclusion and exclusion in Swedish high school in relation to classmates and teachers. A qualitative approach is applied, which uses 10 semi-structured interviews with ten respondents, where all respondents have lived in Sweden between 5-10 years. The theories and concepts that support this study use, among others, social identity theory by Tajfel and acculturation process by Berry. The main data from the respondents indicated that a positive attitude from classmates, with helpful and accepting teachers, contributed to perceived inclusion in both the SVA class and in the regular class. The main reasons why the respondents experienced exclusion at school in relation to classmates and teachers were based on unpleasant treatment with traces of bullying, as well as prejudices based on discriminatory attitudes. What emerged from the results was that maximum inclusion could be experienced in both SVA and ordinary classes, but it was a smaller number of respondents who experienced it.
