Web shops : How is the absence of the physical room forcommunication managed?

Eriksson, Sofia, Hedinge, Camilla January 2009 (has links)
Online shopping is growing and its turnover increases each year. Internet hastherefore become an important retail location for companies. Web shops lack thephysical room for marketing as well as face-to-face interaction between customer andsalesperson. Therefore there is a need to develop marketing and customercommunication methods for this way of shopping. In physical shops the customer hasthe ability to try on the garments and be pampered by the staff. All in all, the wholevisit can be seen as an experience. For the fashion web shops, this is not possible andhence, they have to find other ways. Our purpose with this study is to describe how web shops replace the physical roomfor communication. We will do that by identify and describe the different functionsoffered to the fashion web shops' customers. Further we aim to find out whichfunctions can be regarded as standard, and which are extra and hence could be seen ascompetitive advantages. Based on these descriptions we will be able to present anormative model for best practice for the fashion web shop industry. Our literature review begins with a general introduction to marketing, marketcommunication and how Internet has affected these two areas. This is followed by amore focused review on the literature of web shops and the various functions relatedto them, for example product presentation and different kinds of services. Theprimary aim of our literature review was to formulate our research questions but it hasalso provided us with concepts and models for the structuring of our findings. We started our study by mapping the field of web shops by making observations onthe Internet. Then we divided our material in categories so that we could limit ourfurther part of the study. We chose H&M, Nelly and Acne as study cases for our indepthstudy, and we chose another seven web shops for comparisons. The functionsthat were observed more thorough were product presentation, purchase related andrelation oriented functions. Our empirical material was then analysed according toKotler’s levels of product. By doing this we also present the normative model for bestpractice. We have found that web shops use several different methods to replace the physicalfunctions. Both virtual dressing rooms and video clips of catwalks will probably be apart of best practice in the future. The loss of the physical functions makes it difficultII Ifor web shops to fully compete with physical shops. There are however severalbenefits of web shops that customers can’t get from a physical shop, for example thelarge range of products, and the 24-hours availability. In conclusion, physical andvirtual shops convey different kinds of experiences for the customer. Web shops canbe a complement to physical shops, but they will probably not be able to fully replacethem. This Bachelor thesis will follow in Swedish. / Program: Textilekonomutbildningen

No. of bitstreams: 1 Elementos pretextuais.pdf: 427305 bytes, checksum: 5e025cf40d93c855405e097e76fd8ad4 (MD5) Previous issue date: 2010-10-27 / This research looked for to understand the implications of the industrial employment in the West of Paraná, specifically in the refrigerating industries of birds, contemplating about the possible transformations for the workers' life, that is to say, if it is possible to affirm that through this employment in the butcher shops there is improvement for the life conditions. This way, the objective of this work went research to expansion of the industrial capitalism in this area, the economic activity that stands out in the area it is the agricultural production gone back to the soy cultivation and corn with strong performance of the cooperatives, however, these companies pass to act not just in the commercialization of grains, but also in the productive chain of the chicken meat with strong expansion of the employment. Another prominence of the research is regarding the study in the ways and concepts that the poverty assumes, starting from the varied researched references, assuming direct relationship with the inadequacy of income, therefore having intrinsic relationship with the insert of the poor population in the labor market and in the case, in the butcher shops of birds. Starting from the reflections and mainly starting from the workers' of the butcher shops of birds depositions it is possible to affirm that the characteristics of the generated employments are related to the extreme degradation of the worker's health, with several problems of health, long work day and deterioration of the family contact, if on one side the employment facilitated access to the signed work wallet, for other, it presents degradation of the workers' life, inside and out of the work. It is like this perceptible that the poverty doesn't just show in the workers that are out of the formal labor market, but in the ambit of the formal employment.

Suitability of the NIST Shop Data Model as a Neutral File Format for Simulation

Harward, Gregory Brent 07 July 2005 (has links)
Due to the successful application in internet related fields, Extensible Markup Language (XML) and its related technologies are being explored as a revolutionary software file format technology used to provide increased interoperability in the discrete-event simulation (DES) arena. The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) has developed an XML-based information model (XSD) called the Shop Data Model (SDM), which is used to describe the contents of a neutral file format (NFF) that is being promoted as a means to make manufacturing simulation technology more accessible to a larger group of potential customers. Using a two step process, this thesis evaluates the NIST SDM information model in terms of its ability to encapsulate the informational requirements of one vendor's simulation model information conceptually and syntactically in order to determine its ability to serve as an NFF for the DES industry. ProModel Corporation, a leading software vendor in the DES industry since 1988, serves as the test case for this evaluation. The first step in this evaluation is to map the contents of ProModel's information model over to an XML schema file (XSD). Next, the contents of this new XSD file are categorized and compared to the SDM information model in order to evaluate compatibility. After performing this comparison, observations are made in relation to the challenges that simulation vendors might encounter when implementing the proposed NIST SDM. Two groups of limitations are encountered which cause the NIST SDM to support less than a third of the ProModel XSD elements. These two groups of limitations are: paradigm differences between the two information models and limitations posed due to the incomplete status of the NIST SDM specification. Despite these limitations, this thesis shows by comparison that XML technology does not pose any limitation which would invalidate its ability to syntactically represent a common information model or associated XML NFF. While only 28% of the ProModel element are currently supported by the SDM, appropriate changes to the SDM would allow the information model to serve as a foundation upon which a common information model and neutral file format for the DES industry could be built using XML technologies.

AN EFFICIENT HEURISTIC TO BALANCE TRADE-OFFS BETWEEN UTILIZATION AND PATIENT FLOWTIME IN OPERATING ROOM MANAGEMENT

Dang, Feidi 01 January 2017 (has links)
Balancing trade-offs between production cost and holding cost is critical for production and operations management. Utilization of an operating room affects production cost, which relates to makespan, and patient flowtime affects holding cost. There are trade-offs between two objectives, to minimize makespan and to minimize flowtime. However, most existing constructive heuristics focus only on single-objective optimization. In the current literature, NEH is the best constructive heuristic to minimize makespan, and LR heuristic is the best to minimize flowtime. In this thesis, we propose a current and future deviation (CFD) heuristic to balance trade-offs between makespan and flowtime minimizations. Based on 5400 randomly generated instances and 120 instances in Taillard’s benchmarks, our CFD heuristic outperforms NEH and LR heuristics on trade-off balancing, and achieves the most stable performances from the perspective of statistical process control.

GESTION PREDICTIVE DES BLOCS OPERATOIRES

CHAABANE, Sondes 09 July 2004 (has links) (PDF)

Penz, Bernard 05 December 1994 (has links) (PDF)
