It produces many metabolites with biotechnological properties such as antitumoral peptides, antibiotics and polymers that have potential to replace the oil-based ones. Although it has been extensively studied over the past 40 years, there are many aspects of C. violaceum that remains unclear until today. We have conducted a biochemical study on the homologous recombination (HR) machinery of C. violaceum, mainly in RecA and its paralog, RadA/Sms. We performed in vitro assays from initial and late steps of HR such as D-loop formation and branch migration, respectively, with their corresponding molecular actors and how RadA/Sms influenced each one. We observed cvRadA/Sms influences negatively D-loop formation promoted by cvRecA and through pull-down assay we have observed an interaction between these two proteins. We also observed the DNA-binding preference of cvRadA/Sms and cvRecA and observed that this protein binds preferentially to dsDNA instead ssDNA, unlike cvRecA. No involvement of cvRadA/Sms on branch migration reactions was detected. In this work, we also described, for the first time, the isolation, sequencing and annotation of a new plasmid from C. violaceum, which we named ChVi1 and has 44,236 base pairs, 39 predicted open reading frames (ORFs) and, possibly, two origins of replication. Most of the ORFs codes for hypothetical and structural bacteriophage proteins. By using restriction digestion and Next-generation sequencing (NGS) we also looked for the presence of a similar plasmid in other seven C. violaceum strains isolated from amazon region. Our analysis suggest the presence of a plasmid similar to ChVi1 in two of these strains. The present work describes for the first time a biochemical characterization of RadA/Sms and RecA from C. violaceum which have different roles in HR. Moreover, the discovery of ChVi1 opens a path to further explore C. violaceum?s biology.

With the advancement of digital TV, you may notice significant improvements in audio and video technology used, it is also possible to establish an interaction between the viewer and the TV receiver device. In Brazil, this interaction occurs through the Ginga middleware technology developed by Brazilian researchers to standardize the interactive content sent to devices able to interpret it. In addition to televisions, another popular device is the mobile phone, which is present in a significant way across the country. The technology adopted by Brazil for the digital transmission of television signals, allows the phone to receive programming dedicated to portable devices in open and free way. The phone has a certain advantage over television due to its connectivity. Once the mobile phone is on most of the time connected to a telephone network, and may be 2G, 2.5G, 3G and 4G in the near future, while the television set is for the most part of the time offline (disconnected). This work presents a proposal to use the SMS service as interactive channel, also known as the return channel, for portable reception. This service is present in all mobile phones, and therefore may contribute to the popularization of the use of digital TV technology in the country.

Improvement of the Architecture and Communication Protocol of a Sensor-based IT System

Klimov, Illia, Podoba, Oryna January 2013 (has links)
Communication protocols based on SMS and e-email are simple and straightforward to implement yet they possess a significant communication overhead and delay. In a large sensor network this would increasingly lead to performance issues and decrease scalability of the overall system, since SMS and e-mail include a significant transmission delay and overhead. Additionally, a communication architecture, where clients communicate directly to the central server requires these to be online all the time, thus decreasing battery time. We replaced the initial SMS and e-mail based communication protocol with a TCP based protocol. Furthermore, we selected a new architecture where sensor groups could communicate to a master node in that group, which in turn communicates to the central server. These changes were implemented in an emulator, since the real sensors could not be reconfigured. We evaluated the improvements and could show that we can reduce the communication overhead and transmission delay as well as that the average battery time for all sensors in a group is increased. / Emulator for complex sensor-based IT system

Achieving Security in Messaging and Personal Content in Symbian Phones

Enany, Ahmed January 2007 (has links)
This thesis describes two proposed schemes that could be used to secure mobile messaging (SMS/MMS) as well as one scheme that could be used to secure mobile content. The security services we considered in securing the mobile messages are confidentiality, authentication, non-repudiation and integrity. We used Identity Based Cryptography in order to secure the mobile messaging and Blowfish algorithm to secure the mobile content. Due to some of the disadvantages imposed by the Identity Based Cryptography, we recommended using it along with the RSA algorithm. The proposed schemes were implemented in java and tested on an actual device, Nokia N70. In addition, we measured the time required by each of the algorithms we used to encrypt/decrypt a certain number of bytes. We found that the time taken by RSA and Blowfish algorithms will not be noticeable by the user. However, since the implementation of the Identity Based Cryptography we used was not meant to run on mobile devices, we encountered a noticeable delay whenever encrypting/decrypting the data using this algorithm. Securing the SMS messages will make it to be considered as one of the proposed means that could be used to conduct m-commerce. In addition, securing the MMS messages and the mobile content will increase the usability and the reliability of the mobile phones especially to the users on the move. / Phone: +46735731360

Data Compression for use in the Short Messaging System / Datakompression för användning i Short Messaging Systemet

Andersson, Måns January 2010 (has links)
Data compression is a vast subject with a lot of different algorithms. All algorithms are not good at every task and this thesis takes a closer look on compression of small files in the range of 100-300 bytes having in mind that the compressed output are to be sent over the Short Messaging System (SMS). Some well-known algorithms are tested for compression ratio and two of them, the Algorithm Λ, and the Adaptive Arithmetic Coding, are chosen to get a closer understanding of and then implement in the Java language. Those implementations are tested alongside the first tested implementations and one of the algorithms are chosen to answer the question ”Which compression algorithm is best suited for compression of data for use in Short Messaging System messages?”.

Exploring IBM Integration Designer

Ellström, Jonathan January 2017 (has links)
The interest for Business Process Management (BPM) is increasing in Sweden. Government agencies such as the Swedish Nation Board of Student Aid (CSN), the Swedish Companies Registration Office (Bolagsverket) and the Swedish Social Insurance Agency (Försäkringskassan) are implementing BPM into their organizations. Sogeti is an IT-consulting company that has employees that works at CSN with BPM, and one of the tools they use for integration is IBM Integration Designer. Since this technology is new and is gaining popularity, there is a need for increased knowledge about it. This thesis report explores the tool IBM Integration Designer, regarding its different ways to integrate with systems and compares the different options for exposing the integration solu- tions. By researching documentation from IBM, and by learning how to use the tool itself, knowledge could be acquired about IBM Integration Designer. The result was an implementation of the five different export bindings: SCA, HTTP, SOAP over HTTP, Enterprise JavaBeans (EJB) and Java Messaging Service (JMS), a comparison of these export bindings and finally a service in IBM Inte- gration Designer that accesses a database and uses an external SMS API to send text messages. The result has been satisfactory to the purpose of this project in giving insight into IBM Integration Designer, one of the popular tools for inte- grating BMP.

Experimental Study of GPRS/WLAN Systems Integration / Experimentell Studie av GPRS/WLAN System Integration

Nyström, Joakim, Seppälä, Mikael January 2003 (has links)
The convergence of future networks relies on the evolution of technology that enables seamless roaming abilities across non-heterogenous networks for mobile clients. This thesis presents an experimental study of a GPRS-WLAN integration scenario where the objective is to analyze various aspects of the issues related to charging, mobility, roaming and security between GPRS and WLAN networks. The mainly discussed integration scenario in this thesis is loosely coupled systems working on RADIUS platforms, which together with MobileIP and IPSec provides the mobile client with a secure and access-technology independent network access platform. In order to accommodate GPRS client authentication for WLAN operators, there is a prominent need for the incorporation of necessary GPRS functionality into present AAA servers. RADIUS has been studied as the initial target for the implementation of a GPRS interface towards SMS-Cs and HLRs.The authentication of a mobile client is performed against a HLR/AuC in a GPRS network, either over SS7 links or through the incorporation of SIGTRAN protocols over SCTP. SIGTRANsolutions has the ability to join WLAN networks in a SS7 resource sharing model where the SS7 authentication signalling traffic is transported over IP networks to a Signalling Gateway acting as the logical interface against SS7 networks. GPRS-WLAN accounting may be solved through direct roaming agreements between mobile operators and in such a case transport CDR’s over FTP between their billing systems. If roaming agreements does not exist, it may be viable to establish relationships between WLANs and brokers as well as mobile operators and brokers. The brokering model provides a scalable model that allows easier exchange of charging and billing information on an infrastructure based on WLAN and GPRS billing systems. Standardised transmission protocols for accounting information such as GTP’/TAP3 may be utilised in order to provide a generic billing exchange format between billing systems and operators. Furthermore, different network architectures may have different requirements in order to accommodate GPRS clients with WLAN access. A few network architectures has been analysed, and the developed GPRS AAA Interface Daemon (GAID) has been put into context in order to present a generic GPRS-WLAN systems integration solution for WLAN operators. The analysed solutions in this thesis give various possibilities for WLAN operators to setup wireless services for bypassing mobile clients. The implementational work provides a RADIUS platform, which can be enhanced with functionality that enables communication over any interface in the future.

Förenklad textinmatning på mobila enheter med hjälp av kontextbaserad språktolkning / Simplified text input for mobile devices using context based language interpretation

Jensen, Anders January 2005 (has links)
The number of text messages sent from mobile phones, has increased dramatically over the last few years. Along with that, we are witnessing a lot of new mobile portal services currently being developed. Many of these services rely on an ability to input text efficiently. The traditional phone keypad is ambiguous because each key encodes more than one letter. At present, the most common way to deal with this problem is using a stored dictionary to guess the intended input. This thesis presents a new text entry strategy called Qtap. Instead of using a stored dictionary to guess the intended word, this method uses probabilities of letter sequences. New features that come with Qtap are the usage of the viterbi algorithm to decode input sequences and a non-alphabetic keypad. How the strategy and the keypad used by Qtap were developed, is described throughout the thesis. Qtap is also compared to a dictionary-based method, t9, on a non-user level. The results show Qtap is performing well in many senses. The conclusion from this is that a further development of Qtap is motivated. A discussion of various modifications and additions to the design, that may yield a performance improvement, is also included.

Sms-och chattspråkets inverkan på svenskan i klassrummet : - en undersökning av högstadieelevers skrivande / The impact of SMS and chat language's on the Swedish language in the classroom : - a study of senior student’s writing

Andersson, Susanne January 2011 (has links)
My paper deals with SMS and IM language's impact on students' language in school. Text messaging and instant messaging involves several simplifications and abbreviations for the user to be able to write quickly and short but in the same time have made them understood by the recipient. The spelling, punctuation and use of capital letters are also of a secondary importance when writing via the text chat. My purpose with this paper is to investigate the prevalence of SMS and chat language in student texts, using students in the senior level. My respondents were asked to answer a questionnaire and write a text to a picture. Five representative texts were picked out and recorded in the survey along with all the answers from the questionnaire. The results of the survey show that there are a few traces of SMS and chat language such as lack of punctuation, a few abbreviations and a few English words , but also that the students do well with code switching.

: En kvalitativ intervjustudie om teckenspråkiga döva och hörselskadade individers upplevelser med smartphones / "I feel like I am not disabled anymore" : A qualitative interview study about sign language speaking deaf and hearing impaired individuals experiences with smartphones

Ericson, Mathias, Baylan, Kristina January 2011 (has links)
This c-level essay examines how deaf and hearing impaired individuals use smartphones to live and communicate in a “hearing world”. The main target is to find some understanding of the struggles of this population and smartphones have made it easier to adapt to the hearing worlds’ demands with the applications that follow. To acquire the information for this essay, representatives from both the deaf and hearing impaired communities were interviewed. The findings of this qualitative study show that there are many applications that have advantages to aid the lives of deaf and hearing impaired. These include WhatsApp, Tango and many others. All of the respondents appreciated the new technology but also said that there is work to be done in that area. Especially the poor quality of the video calls is not satisfactory to the users using sign language.
