Nursing students in South Africa are exposed to various clinical environments as part of the prescribed curriculum (SANC, 2008). These clinical environments not only positively or negatively influence nursing students but also greatly influence their decisions regarding future specialization. This relationship between the influence of the clinical environment and the decision to apply at a specific hospital was established by Andrews et al. (2005:147), but little is known about how it affects the decision of nursing students to specialize in a specific area. According to the South African Nursing Council‟s statistical data, an additional qualification in operational theatre is one of the least qualifications applied for (SANC, 2012b). This indicates that not many nursing students choose, for example, the theatre as a specialization area when their studies are completed. In light of this evidence, this study aimed to explore the influence that the clinical environment has on the decision of nursing students to specialize in a specific area. An explorative and descriptive design, which is qualitative in nature, was followed to conduct this study. The data collection was conducted in two phases. Phase one: Nursing students‟ experiences after exposure to theatre as a clinical environment were explored by means of reflective essays. Data was analysed according to the principles of Tesch as described in Creswell (1994:154). Meetings between the researcher and an experienced co-coder resulted in consensus regarding the findings. Three main themes and eleven sub themes were identified and provided clarity on the influence of the clinical environment on nursing students. Phase two, consisting of two focus group discussions facilitated by an expert in focus group facilitation, was completed to validate the findings from the reflective essay. This data was transcribed, analysed and the findings validated by the existing data from phase one. Conclusions drawn from this study were that the clinical environment does influence the students‟ decision to specialize in operating theatre, but many choose not to specialize in theatre due to personal preferences. / MCur, North-West University, Potchefstroom Campus, 2014

This dissertation studies legal practice and representation from the perspective of Theatre- and Performance Studies. It aims to describe and analyse the theatrical, ritualistic and spatial aspects of law, its practices, representations and buildings. More specifically, the dissertation explores the trial as a performance. Cultural as well as artistic performances are explicitly structured. Trials, theatre performances, religious rituals, military parades and political demonstrations all raise a boundary that shuts out what is not part of the performance ("life", "the everyday"). Performances also depend on and create an inner order; they structure the social and material space and produce roles and hierarchies among the participants. The dissertation analyses the ways in which the trial in the lower level court in Sweden produces and maintains these outer and inner boundaries. How does law and legal practice produce frames, boundaries and spaces? How, when and as what does law appear? And what is made to appear in front of or under the law? By approaching the legal practice with a theatrical and performative terminology, the trial comes forth as more than a legal process; it appears as a performative, cultural and social event. The study focuses on the courtroom as a space where power is exercised and produced. It is not only the legal power of the judgment that is exercised, but also other forms of power. The court creates, communicates and sustains its authority in the courtroom by using performative, theatrical and ritual techniques of power. In making these different kinds of power techniques visible, the dissertation exemplifies the strength of a performance perspective. By using a terminology and a way of thinking from the study of performing arts, new knowledge of the trial as a performance is produced.

Denna kvalitativa studie syftade till att undersöka och få bättre förståelse för om, och i så fall hur, aktivt deltagande i estetisk verksamhet kan påverka och förändra livskvalitén hos personer med intellektuella funktionsnedsättningar. Materialet har samlats in genom fem semistrukturerade intervjuer med skådespelare på en teaterverksamhet för personer med intellektuella funktionsnedsättningar. Med hjälp av en innehållsanalys har intervjuerna analyserats och tolkats. Resultatet visar att deltagandet i teaterverksamheten har försett skådespelarna med personliga resurser som kan hjälpa dem att hantera sina egna livssituationer. Sett ur ett empowermentperspektiv och med social kognitiv teori som utgångspunkt dras slutsatsen att denna typ av teaterverksamhet kan bidra till en förbättrad upplevd livskvalitet hos personer med intellektuella funktionsnedsättningar. / <p>2018-01-19</p>

I dagens medievana samhälle blir det allt vanligare att använda avancerad digital teknik inom scenkonstnärliga institutioner. Modern teknik möjliggör användandet av videoscenografi som ett scenografiskt element inom scenkonst. Det vanligaste är att projicera en förinspelad video, film eller ljus över scenen. Med djupintervjuer som metod var syftet att beskriva hur det digitala teknikskiftet inom olika scenkonstnärliga institutioner har sett ut samt att försöka förstå hur denna påverkan tagit sig uttryck. Avsikten var även att få reda på vad personer inom branschen kallar sig till yrket då det finns oklarheter kring benämningen. Studien har visat på att yrkesbenämningen som personer aktiva inom branschen väljer att använda är ett individuellt val som även beror på bakgrund och aktuella arbetsuppgifter. Vidare visar studien att användandet av videoteknik inom scenkonstnärliga institutioner är vanligare än vad vi tror och att branschen är ung och ännu inte har formaliserats. Videoscenografi i kombination med traditionella metoder är även något som förhöjer det konstnärliga uttrycket. Slutligen visar studien på att trots att tekniken fortfarande är dyr så används den allt mer då den underlättar processen i att flytta föreställningar mellan olika arenor då det inte krävs så mycket traditionell scenografi och rekvisita, vilket skapar ökad frihet till personer aktiva inom branschen. I framtiden kommer mer ny teknik att användas vilket kommer innebära att yrken som exempelvis dekormålare inte kommer behövas i samma utsträckning som förr.

Syftet med denna studie var att undersöka förutsättningar för, och effekter av, synergier i en gymnasial utbildning inom musik och teater där live-upplevelser är ett pedagogiskt inslag. Studien genomfördes via enkätundersökningar och en gruppintervju för att fånga både elev- och lärarperspektiv. Urvalsgruppen var besökare till den nyskrivna musikdramatiska föreställningen Om Människan som spelades i två etapper på två orter av olika storlek. Resultatet visade att live-besöket kan utgöra och främja flera av skolverkets examensmål och kunskapskrav i enskilda kurser samt utveckla elevens konstnärskap och vidga elevens syn på det givna konstnärliga mediet. I studien kan även konstateras att det från kulturinstitutioner och regering finns en önskan om att nå ut till barn och unga, samt att det hos urvalsgruppen finns behov för, och önskan om, live-besök i utbildningen. Studiens resultat kan öppna upp för vidare forskning kring estetiska gymnasieutbildningars integration i det samhälleliga kulturlivet.

Detta examensarbete tar med er på en resa genom en designprocess. Den började i enenkel fråga om hur jag går tillväga för att utifrån en pjäs göra en möbel, men blev till en djupdykning i mitt eget sätt att arbeta och en psykologisk analys av någon som inte finns.Jag har med avstamp i August Strindbergs pjäs Ett Drömspel försökt designa en möbel som solidifierar karaktären ”Officern”. Efter analyser bestämde jag att denna möbel skulle vara ett skåp. Jag har sammanfört mina tidigare erfarenheter från teateranalys med möbeldesign för att försöka svara på frågorna: Hur jag går tillväga för att skapa en möbel som ska personifiera/ konkretisera en karaktär ur en pjäs och i förlängningen sammanfatta ett dramatiskt verk? Hur ser en fungerande designprocess ut för mig? Karaktären ”Officern” är stram och tillknäppt med ett hårt yttre, men döljer en insida som går att likna vid ett oskyldigt barn. Mitt skåp skulle spegla detta och det blev en möbel där jag i gestaltningen försökte utmana vad ett skåp kan vara. Skåpet har en traditionell utsida som ger glimtar av en inre scen, eller drama, som går att finna inuti. Att utforska min designprocess var syftet med denna uppsats, och i detta utforskandevisade sig att utgå från ett Ett Drömspel vara en lämplig allegori. Designprocessen har emellanåt varit kaotisk, ologisk och tumultartad, precis som pjäsen. Men precis som det allteftersom i Ett drömspel framträder mönster, samband och djup, så har det också gjort i min designprocess och i det har jag lärt känna mitt eget skapande på ett djupare sätt. / This thesis invites you the reader on a journey through a design process. It started with a simple question of how I would go about making a piece of furniture based on a play but became a deep exploration into my own way of working and a psychological analysis of someone who does not exist. Based on August Strindberg’s play A Dream Play, I have tried to design a piece of furniture that solidifies the character “The Officer”. After analysis I decided this furniture to be a cabinet. I have combined my previous experiences from theater analysis with furniture design to try to answer the questions: How do I go about creating a piece of furniture that will personify/concretize a character from a play and at the same time summarize a dramatic work? What does a working design process look like for me? The character “The Officer” is proud and tightly wound with a hard exterior but hides an inside that can be compared to that of an innocent child. My cabinet should reflect this, and it became a piece of furniture where I tried to challenge the definition of what a cabinet can be. The cabinet has a traditional exterior that gives glimpses of an interior scene, or drama, that can be found inside. Exploring my design process was the purpose of this essay, and in this exploration, using a A Dream Play as a starting point turned out to be a suitable allegory. The design process has at times been chaotic, illogical and tumultuous, just like the play. But just as it does in the play, patterns, connections and depth emerged, as it has in my design process and in that I have gotten to know my own creative process in a deeper way.

Music is full of collaboration, between composers and musicians, musicians with each other, or composers with directors, to name a few. Not as commonly found are collaborations between multiple composers. Some works, such as Hexameron, (Liszt, 1839) were written as variations on a theme by several composers, but even rarer are single works written collaboratively by multiple composers. How would one set out to create a work with multiple composers? Can a group of composers collaborate to create a single, unified vision with a similar voice? What obstacles would arise from such a project? This thesis sets to answer these questions and more, and details the process in which myself and two composers created an operetta in three acts. We will walk through every step of our journey, from the first meeting to the writing process to the final product and concert. The aim of this thesis is to explore how a collaboration of composers can work, the problems that may arise and how to potentially avoid them. If these aims are achieved, this thesis may serve as guidelines for other composers wishing to collaborate on similar projects.

This study explores how the design of women’s social space of action is presented in Hagar Olsson’s play S.O.S: Save our souls (1928). The focus of the study is on the female main character of the play, Maria. The analysis model consists of close reading with the play's melodramatic elements as a starting point. The theoretical framework for the study is the epic theater tradition where Bertolt Brecht has an important influence. The study shows that there is an existing deficiency condition regarding women´s social space of action. This design interprets as a space where women´s happiness and freedom experiences as difficult to access. There is also a critique towards this design through Maria and her actions. The critique is targeted towards long-standing social constructions. However, it should be pointed out that the play takes plays in a bourgeoise environment. Therefore, the design of the space as well as the critique targets towards this environment. The study also shows that Maria´s actions combined with the play opens up for a possible new space where contemporary bourgeoise women allows to act beyond their expectations. This design creates a possibility for women to follow their own way to happiness.
