Pinto, Elton Mártires 20 February 2018 (has links)

Studies of informational behavior in LGBT communities show that the information practices of transgender people have been neglected by information services. Due to the complexities of the gender transition process, transgender people have information needs and express specific search, access, use, and sharing behaviors. In this context, this dissertation had as object of study the relationship between the informational behavior of transgendered women and their perceptions about gender identity. From the methodological point of view, this is a qualitative and descriptive purpose study. The research adopts as theoretical-methodological resource conceptual model derived from the literature whose purpose is to guide the conduct of the research. The theory embedded in the conceptual model of research considers that during gestation a gender is attributed, based on social characteristics. At some point in life, some individuals realize that there is dysphoria between the designated gender and the way they perceive themselves. And then they engage in informational practices that contribute to perceptions of gender identity. The research universe consisted of women in the process of gender transition. The snowball was used as sampling technique. The data were collected through semi-structured interviews, guided by a specific script, divided by five sets of questions. The data were then transcribed and subsequently submitted to thematic analysis. Among the results, it was possible to perceive that information needs and search, access, use and dissemination behaviors are associated with health, cognitive and physical construction issues and the concern to help people who are at the beginning of the gender transition process.

This thesis analyzes how trans individuals give meaning to their experience of subjectivation – how they construct explanations about themselves, others and the world – taking into consideration the dimensions involved in their psychological development. The research is based on the narratives of people who experience transgender and transsexuality, focusing on the processes of self-reflexivity and psychic self-regulation arising out of experience. The poststructuralist perspectives of M. Foucault, G. Deleuze and J. Butler provide conceptual tools for thinking about how these subjectivities are produced. Using these tools, this thesis argues that the construction of knowledge about trans experiences occurs in a series of technical-discursive assemblages that aim to dictate a truth about who someone is and how they should live. In this sense, the objective of the thesis is to provide a contemporary diagnosis of the regimes of truth that exist in the transsexual assemblage, which is present in psychological practices and discourses, and historically has incited and shaped certain practices of subject production. The constitution of subjectivities is related to the way the assemblage of transsexuality, as a discursive regime of power-knowledge, also reproduces itself in the practices of subjectivation of trans subjects. On the other hand, in this context, the emergence of political subjects that are collectively articulated and propose new possibilities for social recognition and citizenship. The entire theoretical and methodological framework is based on cartography, with the development of a politics of writing as poiesis to accompany the fields of force and procedures of the investigation. Further, the analysis of assemblages and their unfolding proved to be essential, as, for example, the politics of friendship was observed during the research practice with the subjects. The empirical investigation was carried out in collective and individual meetings and subdivided into three main moments. First, it was accompanied by a professional and research practice in psychology; second, observations were made of the trans and LGBT social movements; third, narrative and episodic interviews were conducted involving the voluntary participation of six transsexuals (trans binaries and non-binaries). The analysis of the assemblage of transsexuality has shown how the practices of the self can develop in techniques of self-production out of resistances to cisheteronormative hegemonies and gender binarism as modes of governmentality. With this study, it was possible to propose a new understanding of the mutually constituting relationship between gender and processes of subjectivation, situated within the scope of trans experiences, and, thus created psychological knowledge from the perspective of depathologization.

Laerte \'vestido de mulher\': uma investigação sobre a representação de gênero e sexualidade na mídia / Laerte dressed as a woman: an investigation on gender and sexuality representations in the media

Bucchioni, Tulio Heleno de Aguiar 04 November 2016 (has links)
In 2010, the Brazilian cartoonist Laerte Coutinho publicly revealed a process of identification with the female gender, which could already be seen in her work at least since 2005. From that moment on, several contents involving Laerte have been distributed by the media, in the form of news, special reports, columns, interviews and debates. Inspired by the concepts of hegemony and counter-hegemony (Williams, 1977), this research aims to investigate and understand the process of making gender and sexuality representations both in Brazilian major newspapers and online media through the analysis of contents concerning Laerte, assuming as a goal to inquire about its possible effects as well as themes and approaches that the discussion on Laertes personal life has raised.

No. of bitstreams: 1 Hadriel Geovani da Silva Theodoro.pdf: 1808656 bytes, checksum: 1299518b134fb195fd9cde331f7252d5 (MD5) Previous issue date: 2016-03-24 / With the prospect of contributing towards reflections and social practices regarding the politics of media visibility and citizenship for transgendered people, this dissertation articulates studies in the areas of gender and sexuality, communication, media, and consumption. The main objective is to analyze the media visibility of transgendered people in the context of a contemporary consumption society, starting from a case study of the experiences of Laerte Coutinho, cartoonist and nationally renowned activist. The theoretical framework is guided by authors from queer studies, cultural studies, and media and consumption theory. The research methodology, of a qualitative nature, is based on the analysis of a corpus made up of eight items from the media, in addition to an interview carried out with Laerte and an observation of her personal page on the social media network, Facebook. The results of the analysis point to the maintenance of stereotyped, or even prejudiced, frames as related to the visibility of Laerte s transgenderedness, particularly in traditional mass media. In relation to counter-hegemonic or alternative media and social networking spaces, especially on the cartoonist s Facebook profile page, these frames are more favorable towards the policies of visibility for transgenderedness. Finally, the path of the analysis points out difficulties and limits in constituting the politics of media visibility for transgenderedness that promote an effective shift away from a gender binary in our society and culture.

The transsexual experience is a highlighted theme in the current academic context, being portrayed as a complex phenomenon, which presupposes an incompatibility between gender and biological sex. By questioning the binary sex/gender model, it is allowed to question the scientific speeches wrapped in body naturalization presumptions. Disability, out of rehabilitative model, would represent, per se, a transgressions of the “anatomic order”, even if recognized by the biomedical model as the result of a flaw, either congenital or acquired, that will affect the “normal” functioning of the body or of some of its parts. The perception of both bodies acquire new outlining when facing the reading of Judith Butler, for whom the place of pathologization and abjection conferred to these experiences are the result of speech practices that establish power relations that act upon the bodies. Reflecting upon the multiple possibilities of experiences, understood on the basis of feminine, and considering the subordinate position conferred to these bodies in the face of the hegemonic rules, this work aims to create a space of narrative and analysis for an experience that has been little explored academically: the subjective experience of disabled trans women. Focusing, specially, on the disability studies and its possible interlocutions with the Queer theory as theoretical basis, interviews with three disabled trans women were made, being them: two physically disabled women and a sensorial disabled one. For data collection, we made use of the Thematic Oral History method (Meihy, 1996).The analyses of the narratives were organized according to the Discursive Textual Analysis, highlighting the categories that are prominent in the speech, constituting 3 analysis axes: (1) Transit as transgression: from walking difficulties to the itinerant genre. (2) The eyes as a source of scorn, recognition, and desire. (3) The woman as power. This research has a qualitative and exploratory nature, intending to expand and foment new works and discussions regarding the notions of femininity and sexuality from the interface between transgender subjectivity and disability

The present work, focusing on the sexual rights of trans people – transvestites, transsexuals and other forms of experience beyond the reality of the cisgender people –explores the right to existence, embodied in the right to rectification of civil documents of the trans population, through a judicial process. In order to do so, I formulate a revision of the identity construction process of contemporary subjects under the perspective of the cultural studies, especially regarding sexualities and genres aspects, as well as of the trajectory of rights access of the LGBTI population in the institutional and bureaucratic spaces of the Public Power. In spite of the special emphasis on the Judiciary, I argue that a path is being drawn also in the Legislative and Executive Powers to guarantee the rights of trans people. Regarding the Judiciary, I analyse data from a collection of judgments that occurred between 2004 and 2017 in Brazilian courts, to understand how the judicial organs have been dealing with the name and sex/gender rectification of the trans people, whether submitted or not to surgeries of transgenitalization. At this point, I reveal information on aspects such as the quantity of legal actions over the years, quantitative of decisions admitting and not admitting the requests, and which national courts are most expressive to the issue. Finally, I propose an examination of the Special Appeals 1.008.398/SP, 737.993/MG and 1.626.739/RS, judged by the Superior Court of Justice, applying, in the last one, the methodology proposed by Manuel Atienza, a scholar of judicial argumentation, to analyse and evaluate this one which is the most recent and emblematic of them because it allowed a trans woman to change her public documents without undergoing a transgenitalization surgery, which might indicates that the Judiciary is moving towards the depathologization of trans identities. However, we can still ask: is the fact that the trans people’s right to exist will stop being conditioned to the surgery enough to avoid the suffering and violence against this population, or are we still crawling to achieve a full sexual democracy in which this social group is recognized?

In other words, blogs that use the word crossdresser in their headline and/or in their content description. These blogs, that are mainly used as virtual diaries, are propagators of opinion, virtual contents that go beyond text, the usage of words. They propagate ideas also by images, pictures, videos and audio. It was pursued the understanding of what the crossdressing practice is to these bloggers through the analysis of pictoric and textual elements, also observing which categories would come up through their speech and dress-up. For this research , the blogs to be analyzed were chosen by means of common internet research tools, focusing on the first results presented. It were intended, through the reading and analysis of these blogs, written by crossdressers, or by authors that use that category as the blog’s justification, to approach behaviors that evidence what people so-called crossdressers do when they evoke this category. In other words, what people do when they announce to be involved with the practice. It was concluded by means of this analysis that there is a heterogeneity in the understanding of the practice that involves differences when dressing up, and also, differences in the way of perceiving and experience the practice.

Laerte \'vestido de mulher\': uma investigação sobre a representação de gênero e sexualidade na mídia / Laerte dressed as a woman: an investigation on gender and sexuality representations in the media

Tulio Heleno de Aguiar Bucchioni 04 November 2016 (has links)

[pt] RASURAR O REAL, (A)RISCAR A SUBJETIVIDADE: UMA INVESTIGAÇÃO SOBRE GESTOS DE RASURA DA BINARIEDADE DE GÊNERO / [en] STAINING REALITY, MARKING THE SUBJECT: AN INVESTIGATION ABOUT GESTURES OF STAINING THE GENDER BINARY

PE SOBRINHO MOREIRA 20 June 2023 (has links)
[en] Stains are part of life: I leave a mark on the other, the other leaves one on me. Here, I propose the writing of an essay that aims to investigate gestures of staining the gender binary. I look at affects, words and matter that make up the grammar of Western gender. In this work, the following are representatives of affection: pain and shame; of words: the name; of matter: the body. The first stain is presented as a proposal aiming new ways of relating to affects marked as negative in their association with the feminine and unproductiveness. The second and third stains locate the project in the field of transgender studies, when we enter a/effectively in the experiences of transforming the self. I seek to rethink the relationship with the past of trans bodies, usually invited to oblivion in order to achieve an approximation of cisnormativity. I revisit the name rectification gestures and body modifications as stain gestures that are not forgotten. I propose that we think of the dead name from a point of view outside the Western binary that excludes the dead from living relationships. And I also reflect on ways to relate in an inventive way with the transformation of our bodies into monstrous bodies, invented by white cisnormativity and potentiated by hormonal and surgical modifications. The objective of this research is to think about what possibilities open up when we do not forget the past of our bodies and pay attention to stains as a way of life and mundification in its destructive potential of the binary world.
